Michael - The Great Album Debate

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Heartbreak Hotel is one of his finest songs. Produced solely by him, without any input from Quincy Jones.

Can You Feel It - No Quincy. 'Nuff said.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

...? I know Michael wrote lots of his own brilliant songs without any Quincy influence. I never said Michael owed everything to Quincy, I would just say they had good influence on each other and were a great team that really all fell perfectly in to place for Michael to have the most success.

I think Michael was meant to be the number one artist in the world and I don't think Quincy hurt that.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I wonder what Quincy would have said to Michael if Michael had mentioned the shower? 'You ain't gettin' in no shower... you're never going to shower as long as I live... You're gonna stink so bad I'mma call you smelly!'

"But Q, I just wanna washhh my hair thoroughly!"
"You ain't washin no hair Smelly til we're done with the album. Go back to the mic stand!"
"Poppa Q, is this how we're gonna make history?"
"Shut up and work!"

20th century feudalism :p

Quincy's input should not be overlooked. He assambled a marvelous team of session musicians and songwriters that helped Michael achieve the goals he set.

However, same as analogue, I feel 95% of reviewers downplay Michael's role in the creative processs and give all props to Quincy Jones. He deserves all the praise he gets - but no more than Michael. Sadly, majority of music fans and critics indeed consider Michael a brainless chicken, a pop star similar to Britney Spears, who only recorded what producers asked him to.

You all bring smiles every day. :) Thank you all for that.

I have enjoyed meeting all of you, if anything positive came out of this whole controversy, it's the times when we get along and laugh and I believe we are definitely better people when we are focusing on the genius of Michael Jackson.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

^^absolutely!

despite the ups and downs, being a Michael Jackson fan is an amazing journey that brings us closer to experience MAGIC in a world where it only exists in fairytales.
And what makes it even more special - the whole world around us misses out on this... the Best Of Joy.

Best of Joy....That song gets better and better with every play....

And you're absolutely right....I feel honoured to experience Michael the way I do as a hardcore fan :)

I need someone to critique my latest version of "Dangerous Criminal". I've added ad-libs to the ending in order to make it a bit more lively. If you want more info on it, here's the link to the background of the song: http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=108875

So who wants to listen?

I would also love to hear the From The Bottom Of My Heart/I Have This Dream charity single that Michael completed 4 years ago.
Raymone Bain once said that it was one of the most beautiful melodies she'd heard and doesn't understand why Michael decided not to release it. He worked on it for months to make sure it was as perfect as a song can be.

Oh, wow! That sounds promising! Michael and his melodies - you KNOW it's gonna be amazing then!

Did you hear the little snippet of Don't Be Messin' Around yet?

The one that leaked a couple of months ago? Sure I have! Funny thing is, even though there's basically no vocals, you can immediately tell it's a real Michael Jackson track.

hahaha...SO true....! You can hear him make little mumbles though..Sort of in falsetto...Either way, you can still tell it's him in those 7 secs or whatever...Funny that...

Can't wait to hear the whole thing...We haven't had a leak in a while lol

Lol, true.
I say it's time for... Men In Black!

"...here come the Men In Black! They won't let you remember (the Cascio tracks)..."

You know, 20 years of waiting is good enough for me. Let us have this song, the almighty vaults... please!

----------------

Another track I'm really curious about is Lovely Ways produced/completed by Mark Ronson. It didn't make the "Michael" album.
I'm wondering if it's a new (2006-2009) song like Best Of Joy?

Ronson insisted that the vocal track for his contribution 'Lovely Way' was provided by Jackson.

"It was definitely him singing. I was given a vocal track to work with but I never actually met Michael," he commented.

Ronson said that he was unsure whether the song will be included on the album, which is due to be released on December 14.

"It's in the vein of Elton John's 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' and John Lennon's 'Imagine'," he added

The same vein as 'Imagine'...??? WOW!

I haven't heard of it! I'm interested in 'Bassouille' too....Well, ANY unreleased song! It's like undiscovered treasure....

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I know what if there was an announcement of a Michael Jackson cd coming out called 'The Vault Collection' that was 5 discs, twenty songs each, of all his unreleased material. And it could all be outtakes in the order they were recorded.

However, for some reason I think they're purposely holding back the greatest of all the tracks because they know the next one could be an even bigger hit than the first. For some reason it feels like they were just testing the reaction to this one.

We are hearing of so many unheard gems that I can imagine they'll be releasing a CD that's much more amazing than the one we have now. It would be too risky to just shove all the best ones on the first cd released after his death, in my opinion.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Amazing! I've seen bits and pieces (not the dance studio rehearsal of Bad though!),

and the Smooth Criminal part where he talks about the buildup - what a genius! Listen to how he describes it....wow...(from the making of Moonwalker, but you can really actually hear him speak)

Smooth Criminal is so bad ass...I love that video....

'They're watchin'. Not 'their watchin'. If you're going to celebrate this crap, at least spell it correctly.

As mentioned earlier, I have no doubt. So I guess this nonsense doesn't apply to me.

I love the "Breaking News" a capella! It's made my mixing of "Dangerous Criminal" so much easier!

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

A few pages back some people asked about John McClain. Well, who he is you can easily find out online. His career is well documented.

A couple of intersting facts:
Apart from being Michael Jackson's manager from 1998-2002, he worked with people like Janet Jackson (when she was almost dropped by her label, JM basically saved her career by introducing her to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis), Lionel Richie, Tom Jones and Dr Dre.

Funnily, he was the person who signed Blackstreet (Teddy Riley's group) to Interscope, which lead them to having commercial success with chart topping hits like "No Diggity" in the mid-90s.

What's interesting is that there are no photos & no direct contact information available online. He is a VERY private person and always has been.
There is only one photograph that I was able to find which is 100% confirmed to be him:
jm1wa.jpg

that's McClain at 30, in the late 80s.

there are also two newer pics that were labeled as being his, but it's unclear whether it's really him or not:

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Interesting. Is it also true that McClain is a childhood friend of MJ? I remember reading that somewhere.

Yes, McClain went to school with Jermaine. He's a long time family friend.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Well that definitely explains why McClain was made co-executor of the Estate, as well as his work with MJ, like producing "You Are My Life". I wonder if McClain was the one that had chosen "Much Too Soon" and "Behind the Mask" to be on the album, because it seems that he's really comfortable producing/polishing off songs that were recorded/written in the 80s.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I worry for that guy's safety. That's all I'm saying.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

What guy? McClain? Surely he has nothing to worry about, right?
