Michael Jackson's Vision' DVD Boxed Set Available Everywhere Monday November 22

Ok, then can you explain me why Michael decided to make a 2 minutes interlude if 1 minute was enough?

Maybe because it was a part of moonwalker rather than a separate Video?

Come to think of it. I actually wished they put the entire moonwalker video there too.

Come to think of it. I actually wished they put the entire moonwalker video there too.

They could have, that's true, although I can understand why they didn't. They chose the musical part, wich would be respectful if it was not edited (actually I think it has been censored because this part may be a little too sexually explicit)...

I really feel two different things whether I watch the long or the shorter version of Smooth Criminal. When I watch the long one, I feel kind of unconfortable during this sequence, wich is quite long (2minutes). And I think that's what Michael wanted. And when the music finally starts again, then it feels like a relief. This feeling is just amazing. And it's not that intense when the break is just 1 minute long because you don't have time to feel the pressure rising as much as within the 2 minutes.

This break is so important in this video. I can't believe they did not respect it once more.

cutting 1 min out of the interlude is not disrespectful. they put the "short film" version on the disc. damn i swear some of yall smh. do you think casual fans are going 2notice a min of an interlude missing? I know pple who fast forward the interlude anyway. once again this appeals 2 every1 and the masses wont notice a difference, not that it matters. chill cuz quite frankly u cant do a thing about it but complain, which in tern gets OLD.

Yeah, I agree. It's only 1 minute. It's not the end of the world.
We have a few more years before that! :cheeky:

thanks. shouldnt have watched that though:cry: someone give me a quick run down on how that video came about and when it was done

Anything before Thriller? Yeh, Probably not, Everything after? Probably was. I know most if not all his videos were shot on 35mm film, Smooth Criminal, as we know, is widescreen as was Thriller and probably Ghosts. In fact I have no doubt that most of them were filmed in widescreen and I think not releasing them is unacceptable.

35MM is a square 1.33:1, now what makes it widescreen is if you use Anamorphic lenses (usually 2.35:1 or you frame it using Mattes for 1.85:1).

Most of MJ's videos were shot with MTV in mind so they were framed full screen, there is a grey area with some films because of the matting, then in the late 90's letterboxing (the only way to see widescreen on a sqaure tv) became more acceptable with videos.

Just off the top of my head here is a list of the proper framing.
Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough 1.33:1
Rock With You 1.33:1
She's Out of My Life 1.33:1
Billie Jean 1.33:1
Beat It 1.33:1
Thriller 1.33:1 tv version, Theater screenings in 84 were matted at 1.85:1. I'm unsure if Landis framed it this way. But the lighting flub in the graveyard may have meant to be matted off.
Bad 1.33:1
The Way You Make Me Feel 1.33:1
Man In the Mirror (1.33:1 for news/montage version/ Matted 1.85:1 Moonwalker version)
Dirty Diana 1.33:1
Smooth Criminal (1.33:1 tv version/ Matted 1.85:1 Moonwalker version)
Another Part of Me 1.33:1
Speed Demon 1.33:1 for news/montage version/ Matted 1.85:1 Moonwalker version
Come Together 1.33:1 for news/montage version/ Matted 1.85:1 Moonwalker version
Leave Me Alone 1.85:1 (because it was created using optical effects it has a fixed Aspect ratio, this is why even in Full Screen versions of Moonwalker it is letterboxed)
Liberian Girl 1.33:1
Black or White 1.33:1
Remember The Time 1.85:1
In the Closet 1.33:1
Jam 1.66:1
Heal The World 1.33:1
Give In To Me 1.33:1
Who Is It 2.35:1
Will You Be There 1.33:1
Gone Too Soon 1.33:1
Scream 1.33:1
Childhood 1.85:1
You Are Not Alone 1.33:1
Earth Song 1.33:1
They Don't Care About Us 1.33:1 Both versions
Stranger In Moskow 1.85:1
Blood On The Dancefloor 1.33:1 All versions
Ghosts 1.33:1 tv version/ Matted 1.85:1 theater version
You Rock My World 1.85:1
Cry 2:35:1

Now that HD/Widescreen tvs are the norm I would say that the proper aspect ratio for Moonwalker and Ghosts is 1.85:1 because that was the framing they choose for the theatrical versions.

I actually think it's proper to not release any widescreen versions. If the original video wasn't in widesceen, I don't think there should be a widescreen version because somehow it's not the original video anymore. Now if the original video was shown to the public in widescreen, then I think it's ok to release it. Like the YRMW video.

Ok, let's listen to the masses and the guys who fast forward this interlude. I think they probably know better than Michael what is usefull and what is not in this movie.

Amen

Let's also remove the whole You Rock My World video, I don't like it at all so I think it has nothing to do on this DVD.

If the original video wasn't in widesceen, I don't think there should be a widescreen version because somehow it's not the original video anymore.

Try to express that to people about Smooth Criminal because I give up. They don't get the point. Some would remove La Joconde from Le Louvre because they don't like it.

I'm sorry, but while I agree with you that they could have the full Moonwalker version (spliced with the History on Film ending), I don't think it was "censored", much less "a little too sexually explicit". There are way worse things for everyone to see all around us nowadays. You may think it's "sexy" - that's totally fine. But "too sexually explicit" may be a little too much...

PS.: And if we're talking about censoring sexy MJ videos, heck, why is In The Closet, etc included at all? See? No censoring.

I totally agree, with the exception of anything from Moonwalker/Ghosts and possibly Thriller. Everything should stay at it's original aspect ratio weather it be full screen or another ratio.

You're right, I think it's because of my bad french/english translation. This sequence may look too sexy and uncomfortable for the US censors. That's typical of them to disrespect movies because of their legendary ridiculous puritanism.

I forgot to add a point to my original post, which I edited now: if it was about censoring, In The Closet would be unreleased. I don't think it was about censoring, really... It's just a different edit, that's quite common.

PS.: your english actually is very good, probably better than mine... :p

it would also be better to include the alternate versions of:
give in to me the 'official' dangerous dvd version is better I think
gone too soon
blood on the dance floor well dumb asses. who needs that stupid remix
scream (directors cut)
will you be there
who is it

jacksons/jackson 5:
keep on dancing
good times
Even though you're gone
Dreamer
Goin' Places

(but most of them are something like performances and there are for sure copyrights needed, they don't have)

and the official megamix videos:
tony moran megamix
HIStory MJ Megaremix yes this one could habe been in

and important, cause people talking about they will get the "full" version of you rock my world. no, you don't!
the full version is 13:48. its 18 sec. longer. and have some different footage included. only shown on mtv/vh1.
I think any 13min version will be good. the differences are stupid talking between Michael and Chris, and something in the ending dancebreak, plus the rest is mostly end credits. mostly noting importand

i wonder if one more chance is really the real deal? and if all videos are in 5.1. i think only stereo. ^^
after the previous dvds 5.1 upmix disaster, please no.

thanks sony for this ^^

If only colour corection is done, well thats really not easy to make.
the transfers for visionary and number ones were not bad, so probably they thougt no need for new ones for a dvd.
when they decide to release blu-ray one day, they should really sit on their asses and do it right.

blood on the dance floor well dumb asses. who needs that stupid remix

i dont talk about the remix...

false, the difference is different footage... 1. mike and chris in the restaurant, and before the song starts. 2. more footage (18 sec.) before the song starts. 18 sec. missing of footage.

See, this is enough for me, Give it to me widescreen Sony!

If the Smooth Criminal sequence was cut off in 1988 (I don't know if it was), it may be censoring. Things had changed in 1992 for In The Closet.
But maybe you're right, maybe they just found out it was too long for the masses. What an horrible word.

PS.: your english actually is very good, probably better than mine... :p

Thanks Billy :)

Yeah, but the problem with this theory is: this is a deluxe box of his videos. In 2010. Everything else's included in its uncut versions as far as I can see, so there would be no censor excuses for Sony not to include the full version if it was censored in the first place... I hope I made sense. That's why I think it's simply a different edit, as further "proved" by the ending bit (after all, if it was just the Moonwalker version censored, it would probably end with the door closing as in the movie).

As I mentioned before, the "best of two worlds" would be to have the full Moonwalker version with the different ending bit. I wish they would think about it.

how come not many people are talking about one more chance? we are getting a brand new short film that we have never seen before....i literally cant wait and will buy this just to get one more chance! Im not really that bothered about everything else.
What does everyone think its going to be like?

Yeah you're right. Even Bad will be 2 minutes longer than the version we had, witch is great. That's why I first said that I'm sure the people working at Sony today don't even know that this version of Smooth Criminal is edited.

As I mentioned before, the "best of two worlds" would be to have the full Moonwalker version with the different ending bit. I wish they would think about it.

I totally agree and I'm sure it already exists. Do you think it's possible to contact Sony US to ask them?

This is getting ridiculous. I'm not afraid to speak the truth when something is wrong -- see what I said about This is It. But fans have a bizarre pleasure of destroying everything that involves the name of Michael Jackson and I will not be part of this farce.

Nobody here is talking about APOM for the first time in good quality, Speed Demon in full, Can You Feel It in full, SOOML in good quality, the new images of the OMC, etc.......

The DVD is all what fans and non fans want. Or not???

But all I see is complaints.

I respect the art of Michael, but who cares SC is not like the movie?????

I do not give a damn about a remix or not remix version of BOTDF!!!!!

The truth is that some people here did not expect such a good product and now are desperately looking for any defects.

DVDs still sell much more in America than Blue Ray. Period. In my country almost no one has Blue Ray. Most people do not even know what is a Blue Ray.

Stop sabotaging Michael Jackson. Randy Jackson and the rest of the family do it for you.

I understand we all have our opinions and we have the right to speak when we do not like something. But we're talking about a DVD that has almost everything that the fans said that wanted before the announcement.

If you do not like it, go away from here.

We do not need more drama queens.

PS: SORRY if I'm being rude. I saw exactly the same thing happening with Invincible and several other projects of Michael Jackson. Complaint and complaint. We're fans. It's time to act like fans. If there's nothing to talk about, go read a book.

yeap. or go back and watch the memorial or the news clips from the 25th of june 2009 and then realise how stupid and irrelevent moaning over whats on the dvd is or that a video is 3 seconds shorter than it should be. get a grip and remember why all this stuff is even getting released in the first place.

Yes you are being rude. What is acting like a fan for you? Buying if you like or shutting your mouth if you don't? Wow!

So to be clear, as I first said, I am very surprised of the amazing quality of this DVD set. I really am because I was expecting some crap from Sony and it's not.

That's why I think this set is going to become a classic, a true reference concerning Michael Jackson's videos. Starting with this very positive concern, I find it very bad that the only default is - I think - a very important one.

You think complaining about that is being disrespectful drama queens. I think not saying anything is acting like sheeps, wich is much more disrespectful for Michael.

Now if this box set is perfection to you and you have nothing to say about it, then you go read a book.

Sorry if I'm being rude too but I had too answer on that.

You should be ashamed of talking like that. You probably think you are the only one to know that death is more important than a f....... DVD.
Michael's dead, long live his memory and his art. The art HE created, the way HE created it. We have to be careful this is respected.

If you don't, go get a book you too.

amen to u guys. Im so tired of fans moaning over stuff that is going to be released. Remember people do this for us fans - as a part of the healing process. Mjs children will have most of the money of this release and we will finally see a NEW VIDEO from Michael Jackson!?

Its time for all of us to be happy and looking forward to nov 22. cmon.

I finally pre-ordered the boxset from Amazon France  his price is 27,99 euros (£25 or $39)
