Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon by David Gest (merged)

David Gest has claimed that Michael Jackson "never got over" the accident in which his hair caught fire while filming a commercial.

The singer's head was infamously set alight when, during the recording of an advert for Pepsi in 1984, a fireworks display erupted behind him. Footage of the incident was re-examined following Jackson's death, with many pinning the start of his prescription drug use to the incident.

Gest, a friend of the late star's, told BBC Breakfast that the accident had marked a turning point in his life. "When he started his solo career and he left Motown, when he did 'Off The Wall', 'Bad' and 'Thriller', he was in complete control of everything he did. He was in charge," he said.

"It was that accident, when you get a head concussion it changes your life because you get addicted to drugs, to get rid of all the pain, and that started with filming that commercial."

Gest also claimed that Jackson had been forced to undergo a medical treatment known as 'ballooning', which involves expanding the scalp and is commonly used as a method of surgical hair restoration. He added: "He never got over that. He had ballooning, ballooning is when you expand the scalp, until the day he died he was being ballooned."

I thought ballooning was only done to stretch the skin until it could be stitched to close the hair gap, with the excess skin being removed. It wouldn't take 30 years to achieve that. Also he had burns not concussion, unless you can get concussion from burns???

Thank you!

David Gest is clearly making up stuff as he goes along and it will be very easy to disprove all of his "emblishments."

After the conclusion of business related to the 30th Anniversary Concert, I firmly believe that Michael and David had no contact. Especially on the level of Gest knowing what Michael was doing or not doing relating to his health.

People like David Gest ALWAYS go overboard when they retell stories regarding their closeness to Michael, especially now that Michael is not here to confirm and/or deny.

Liza Minelli even stated the last she had seen Michael was in 2001, I doubt Gest was in touch with Michael. Guest was more of Tito's friend than Michael's to begin with. He's an attention seeker.

Rebbie Jackson: I will see Michael again - Music-News.com

Michael Jackson's sister 'firmly believes' she will see him again in the next life.

The iconic singer passed away in June 2009. His family are still struggling to come to terms with his death.

Older sister Rebbie admits one of the things which helps her through the hard times is her belief that she will see Michael again in the future.

't's true that he's gone but I am firm about believing in the fact that one day I'll see him again and that's what I'm looking forward to,' she said.

Michael died of acute Propofol intoxication. The anaesthetic is usually used to put surgery patients to sleep, but the star was using it to overcome his insomnia. His personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray is currently on trial for his involuntary manslaughter.

Rebbie, 61, is finding the legal proceedings hard.

't is difficult. It's something that is not done quite [so] often I guess you could say because your life is being played out in the public,' she told UK TV show Lorraine. 'Going through something like a tragedy such as this it's not just you dealing with it, family wise. The thing you have to also remember and take in the fact that the public is involved as well and that makes it very difficult.'

Rebbie hopes her brother ' who was 50 when he died ' will be remembered as a kind person who cared about others.

She knows many people think they knew the King of Pop, but believes only his family really did. Michael and Rebbie grew up with their eight other siblings, including singers Janet, Jermaine and La Toya. She thinks it's only those who spent prolonged periods with the superstar who really understand what he was like.

'What I always like to really share with people is that I guess the world and people in general look at him differently than we as a family do because he was a brother first and then of course an entertainer,' she explained. 'So when I think in terms of what's happened with him I think of him as my brother, more than anything else. I'm doing this right now because I feel it's something I should do for myself as well as for him and his kids. I just feel it's a good thing and I should be involved.'

Rebbie was on the programme promoting new DVD Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon, which features those close to the singer discussing his legacy.

Rebbie says that 'she thinks that it's only those who spent prolonged periods with the superstar who really understood what he was like'.

I guess that rules her out then.

I had a feeling Liza Minelli would not support this. I don't blame her.

Re: Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon - Excl Advanced Blu-ray & DVD Cover Preview *Update Post 13

I really dont like wot david is doing telling stories that may or may not be true there is a reason y Michael kept stuff private cos he shared everything else with the world.I dont like how he goes deep into his private life especially when Michael was asked certain questions in interviews and he pretty much said he didnt want to answer cos it was private , but here we have david guest talking about the stuff Michael didnt want to talk about in interviews which he personally said was private to him.

Go find someone else to leech off of.This is just another way to say to the world that he's still here and talking about Michael yet again.

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

First on Rebbie. She is managed and is a supported of Stacy Brown. If you don't know who Stacy is, he is the person who co-wrote 'Behind the Mask' with Bob Jones. Since you are a legacy member, I'm going to assume you know the BS both these men has said about Michael during his trial and how both of them were DA's witnesses who had their lie called out by T-Mez. After Michael died, Stacy made a blog or a twit about how Madonna stood relevant and how Michael had to die to be like after he ruin his life. He also said he knew that Michael was a pedo and even made a twit about Michael's suppose children porn. He also supported Diane Diamond's book, 'Be Careful Who You Love'. He also had dinner with one of the DA who prosecuted Michael in 2005, Diane Diamond, and a friend of Gavin's family who testify against Michael.

This man is Rebbie's manager. This man has talk crap about Michael for years and continue to do so after he died and Rebbie still supports and honer him. With that, one can easily come to the conclusion that Rebbie believes some really bad stuff about Michael. Otherwise, how can you hang with anyone who talks about your family member like that? Sorry, but Rebbie gets no pity out of me and it she can burn and take Stacy with her.

About Gest, that is a weird and disturbing joke, if it is one. How is it a joke to suggest that someone was knocked out in their hotel room and you forced them to perform? Gest maybe odd, but I don't think his sense of humor is that twisted since it isn't even funny given how some in the family blames AEG for doing this and is currently suing them. Not to mention the story he sold to the Sun, just days after Michael died. Jest or not, it's really bad taste.

Tell it girl!

Katherine will be in LA for the trial and will not attend the premiere.

As she should, this trial should be the primary concern of ALL the members of that family.

Rebbie says that 'she thinks that it's only those who spent prolonged periods with the superstar who really understood what he was like'.

I guess that rules her out then.

Oh lord!

'What I always like to really share with people is that I guess the world and people in general look at him differently than we as a family do because he was a brother first and then of course an entertainer,' she explained. We are all aware of that Rebbie.

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

I'm off to the premiere of this tomorrow night so as much as I hate Gest I'm trying to keep an open page about this. Will give my thoughts on it when I get back on Weds night.

Here's A Fan review of The Documentary

Hi guys

I just finished watching the David Gest dock 'The Life of an Icon'. I kinda have mixed feelings about it. I don't think it was put together terribly well. The idea of focusing on how great a talent he was as a kid was great, but that side of the doco lasted the whole first hour and I was like "man when are they gonna get to Off the Wall and Thriller and Bad", and when it got to that period, it was just brushed over in about 5/10 minutes!, then next thing it jumped straight to the molestation charges!!! Come on man!! I'm trying to forget about all that stuff! I want to see a doco about how awesome he was as an entertainer and humanitarian, which is what I was hoping this would be. Granted you can't ignore the terrible things he had to endure in court and so on, but for that to be the sole focus of a lot of the documentary was a bit of a letdown, and didn't make me want to show this documentary to other people. I finished watching the documentary feeling very sad and frankly a bit depressed. That's not the way any of us want to remember Michael.

Anyway that's just my two cents. I am very appreciative that David Gest and others involved in the doco went out of their way to put Michael in a positive light, which I can safely say they did. Here's to hoping one day there will be an awesome doco or something that only focuses on his talent and love for others.

Would love to hear your opinions if you've seen the documentary
.

Peace and love!

Given who behind this, it's just what I expected. Except, I'm kind of surprise they gloss over Thriller and Bad since that seems to be most docs favorite time period and the family actually still had contact with making during the Thriller era.

The main problem I have with this format that is seems to imply that Michael was a great talent as a kid and how fun he was, who did some some decent stuff as an adult, but all his adults efforts will be remember as the allegations and trial.

Just as I expected, more or less. I mean, these unauthorized projects "usually" start AND end with the Motown era. I'm just guessing that the reason that the "Bad," "Off The Wall," and "Thriller" eras were not included because The Estate Of Michael Jackson didn't give permission for them to use that particular music for this project. Michael was obviously SOLO in more ways then one at that point, so why bother talking about it.

In my opinion, the Jackson-Five/Motown era has been talked about enough. At this point, I believe folks are looking for some NEW information and not a repeat of what they already know.

I watched the Doc last night. I enjoyed it but not sure how entirely I feel about it.
There were parts that I found histerical - Dionne Warwicks story, Some parts that had me in floods of tears. Parts that made me a bit annoyed i.e. the sections on the molestation charges.

On the whole it was good but not amazing ;)
