Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon by David Gest (merged)

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

Is there really gonna be a tour with Gest & Fam tellin a crowd of strangers that MJ pop pills (even though they never seen him do that) and threw up in Gest toliet?! Wow, what a tribute. I guess it's okay since in between the most private, embarrssing and plain guessing of stories (because eventually they were shut out), they will also share lovely stories too aswell. You know to balance it all out. How lucky MJ was to have such people in his life, no really! -_-

If only every star can be so lucky and get the same treatment as MJ recieves in death, I'm sure they will be thrilled!

LOL I seriously beg to differ. Please don't insult the intelligence of other fans because they like something you don't.[/QUOTE

Hmmmmmmmmm...not sure about the rules now. Should one apologize for stating the obvious?

LMAO.

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

I have to say I'm sceptical of many David Gest stories...

(No, I don't think MJ was a saint, and actually many stories are pretty funny and I would not mind them to be true, yet I'm pretty sceptical about them. A lie is a lie, whether positive or negative and some stories here in my opinion are not true. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.)

I think David Gest exaggerates and embellishes the truth. So we'll never know what part, if any, is true :ermm:

But, is it as obvious as you think? Okay, we all know David Gest is not a reliable charactor. So, it's totally understandable that fans are skeptical. But, a big but, Tom Mesereau endorses this project and will attend the premire in person with his law firm partner, Susan Yu. Both of them successfully defend Michael against the charges in 2005. Of everyone who was in Michael's life, I respect Tom Mesereau the most. He not only saved Michael's life. Also, he did and continues to advocate for Michael. He's doing a lot to honor a great man's memory and he does it with grace and dignity.

Are we saying we all know better than Tom Mesereau? How many here have talked to Michael? How many here have spent time with Michael during his darkest hours? Are we saying we are smarter than Tom Mesereau? Are we suggesting Tom Meserau cares about crumbs and shit?

I'm not suggesting Tom Mesereau is almighty and can do no wrong. But, before we speak ill words about this project, give it benefit of doubts. If after we see the entire film, we feel it's indeed a money scam. Then, we can come up with our own conclusion and disagree with Mesereau.

Ha! The only reason I am still pay attention to this documentary is because of Tom Mesereau. The other reason is David Gest might have some rare footage of Michael. Every unseen footage is really valuable. I just hope there really has some never before seen footage as he claimed before and not just another family/friend interview documentary like all the others. I will still keep an open mind of this documentary although I really don't like his most recent interview. Anyway, I think I should save my comments after I really saw the video on youtube then decide whether I will buy it or not.

If he is really a friend of Michael he would allow Katherine to be at the verdict. She should be there. There are a million Jacksons that her take her place. Janet's promoters let her postpone shows to go to the trial this week. I understand about contracts but still this is different.

Re: Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon - Excl Advanced Blu-ray & DVD Cover Preview *Update Post 13

When Tom Mesereau speaks of MJ he does it in a respectful way. He doesn't say things that are unnecessary like Gest has and will share in this doc and in this talking tour I'm sure. He really did not sound like a caring friend when he threaten MJ he would sue if he screws up the 30th Ann. Concerts. Even though he claims he knew MJ had sleeping or alleged drug problems. That really bothered me.

Plus sharing things like MJ threw up in his toilet cause he was drunk makes Gest look bad and don't do MJ any favors either. Gest even once implied it was his fault that MJ ended up having a drinking problem at one point in his life because of that night.

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

My questions are musical ones:

Who owns the unreleased material from The Jacksons (1975-84)?

Who owns the footage to the tours?

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

I don't have questions, I just would like to politely ask Mr. Gest not to contribute to "MJ was an addict" public/media hype that is going on right now, since the last time he spent any considerable time with Michael (as he himself admitted) was before the 2005 trial.

Ooh, these are brilliant questions! And I wonder these myself. I would LOVE to hear unreleased Jacksons songs.

^ I guess sony owns something of it. but most of it probably owns the Estate and Michael's children. I don't really know this tuff..

Re: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Producter David Gest and Universal Pictures announce all-star World Premi

Tom Mesereau talked about the documentary recently:
Thanks Joanie TomMez sez: "I went to a private premiere of his film, a private screening, of his film a few months ago in LA at Universal Studios, and it's one of the most brilliant, kindest, most sensitive documentaries about Michael Jackson ever and when I went to see it I was wondering if it was going to be new material or had I seen everything, and I was so moved by this wonderful documentary. It goes through Michael's ups and downs...I'm glad Katherine will be there for the premiere because it's a very positive piece about a brilliant, wonderful, kindhearted human being that all of us loved."

Tom Mesereau talked about the documentary recently:

I hope it will be true that it will be as good as MR. Mesereau said. However, I just don't expect to high or I will be really disappointed if it's not so good. I'll wait for the review since the interview Gest gave recently really is not so good.

No, Michael wasn't a god and most people know this.

There's no proof either way :tease:!!!!

Just had to clean the thread. You don't agree, fine, no problem, but don't resort to name calling. We're all adults here. Saying people should be ashamed of themselves is not tolerated.

Sorry for my ignorant question but are they going to show this in cinemas or on TV? Or is it just a dvd release? I guess they shoud show it in the cinemas all around the world! The truth about Michael needts to be told especially in this hard times of Murray trial when they say that Michael was nothing but a drug addict... :( :( :( Makes me cry...

Reviews so far:

Chris Cadman
Enjoyed watching THE LIFE OF THE ICON yesterday, its a nice well balanced account. Shame perhaps Berry Gordy, Diana Ross, Rod Temperton, Quincy Jones are not in it, but its still interesting. The soundtrack is from Motown only as far as Michael & The Jackson 5 are concerned, none from CBS/Epic/Sony. There some nice humouroes stories in it from David Guest, Smokey Robinson and the time Stevie Wonder pinned Michael up the wall. You could argue that there could have been more in it on different periods, but i enjoyed it as is. David Guest as always got a mischievious glint in his eye when he's talking, but i kind of like him. So i hope you all enjoy it.

Chris Cadman Seeing this documentary is Tom Mesereau possibly the greatest lawyer in the world? He's fascinating to listen too. See also In the DVD the cow DD shaking hands with TS a really sick clip to see and more than says were she was getting her info from. Frank Cascio comes across well in the DVD.

Re: Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon - Excl Advanced Blu-ray & DVD Cover Preview *Update Post 13

If this documentary has anything that disrespects MJ's legacy or his privacy, then f** with it, i don't want it. I don't want to hear or see private things of MJ's life that he wouldn't want people to know. I don't think MJ was a God or that he did not do wrong but some things are ment to be private and they should stay that way. Like we wouldn't want to have our most private, embarrasing or vulnerable moments became o public spectacle, i'm sure there were moments in MJ's life that he wouldn't want the general public to know about. That includes fans too. Just because we are his fans, doesn't meant that we have the right to know every single detail about the guy. Is none of our bussiness. And that's not because some of us think that he was this angel and that those kind of moments would ruin that picture but because he was a human being and privacy is one of the most fundamental rights of a human being. Mike asked for privacy, he never got it from the media at least we, the fans should respect his wish. (I'm saying all this IF the documentary really includes things like Mike throwing up and stuff like that which really make me sick)

Re: Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon - Excl Advanced Blu-ray & DVD Cover Preview *Update Post 13

Universalpictures UK has uploaded three short clips, and two were new to me. It made me sad to hear, although we know this already, that as a child Michael had to rehearse 3 -4 hours daily, then do gigs till 2.00am in the morning and go to school the same day. He probably only got 4 hours of sleep or less. He was so little, I don't understand how his mother allowed it. Letting a family of eleven people piggyback on the shoulders of a 7 year old is extreme. And even in death they continue to use him, and sadly his children to make money...

People still debate whether what Joseph did was child abuse in terms of the beatings (it's abuse to me), but even they shouldn't have a problem deeming that a child of 6 or 7 years slaving away for his family is abuse.

Re: Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon - Excl Advanced Blu-ray & DVD Cover Preview *Update Post 13

And people wonder why Michael was going to such lengths to find ways to sleep. I bet his insomnia started very, very early. That's just heartbreaking to do that to a child.

Edit: to the person who doesn't want a part of this documentary because it may be disrespectful, here's my take on it -

I find stories like the one about Michael drinking too much wine and throwing up really humanising. I know it's a bit of a private moment, but I think the general public needs to hear more stories like this in order to break down the "Wacko Jacko" image that's been prevalent for so many years now. Is the story embarrassing? Yes, but again it's also humanising! If this story came from someone like Mick Jagger or whoever, most people would laugh it off and chalk it up to the wild lifestyle he used to live. But the minute something human happens to Michael, people say it's disrespecting his image/memory and shun it. It's a bit of a double standard and it doesn't sit well with me.

I think David's stories are hilarious, and they might be stretched a little far from the truth but I think the essence of what he's telling is what we need to pay attention to. Michael was just a guy, he did some silly things and to me, that makes me love him even more than the whole humanitarian/saving the world thing. I like human Michael. I like the guy who bugged his family with a video camera and snooped through people's drawers and went out for pancakes late at night. But it's not everyone's cup of tea, which I understand.

Edit again: I've just become aware that this may be a cultural thing. Here in Australia we love to humanise our celebrities/higher up people as much as possible, it's kind of part of the "mateship" thing of our culture. Even our biggest celebrities are still someone you could sit down and have a beer with, you know? That's how we view people. I know this isn't the same in every culture, particularly the American one, so I apologise if it comes off weird!
