Nations remain divided by mistrust and hatred. Everywhere the air and water have been fouled almost beyond help. Do something!" - Michael Jackson

"I wanted to change the world, so I got up one morning and looked in the mirror. That one looking back said: "There is not much time left. The earth is wracked with pain. Children are starving. Nations remain divided by mistrust and hatred. Everywhere the air and water have been fouled almost beyond help. Do something!" - Michael Jackson

MAKE THAT CHANGE TODAY!! :clapping:

GO MICHAEL !! GO TEAM !! GO TEAM MICHAEL !! :agree:

Tide Loads of Hope Program

About Tide Loads of Hope
Nearly 30,000 loads of laundry cleaned for families affected by disasters, and counting….

In times of disaster people turn to the most basic of human needs—and one of those is clean clothes. The Tide Loads of Hope program provides relief by means of a mobile laundromat. One truck and a fleet of vans house over 32 energy-efficient washers and dryers that are capable of cleaning over 300 loads of laundry every day. We wash, dry and fold the clothes for these families for free. Because, as we’ve learned, sometimes even the littlest things can make a big, big difference.

Heifer's " Passing On The Gift" Program

About Heifer's Mission to End Hunger
Heifer envisions…A world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet.
Heifer’s mission is…
To work with communities to end hunger and poverty and to care for the earth.
Heifer's strategy is…
To “pass on the gift.” As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
Heifer’s History
This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for over 60 years. Today, millions of families in 128 countries have been given the gifts of self-reliance and hope.

President's Message

Since 1944, when Heifer first shipped cows to impoverished families, we have known that livestock offer one of the best resources for ending the cycle of chronic hunger and poverty that plagues two-thirds of the planet. Since then, Heifer has helped millions of families with gifts of livestock and training.
We have learned that, to effect real change, our efforts must be sustainable — we must equip future generations to face the challenges in store for them. We’ve learned the importance of training that allows farmers to use their land productively and to restore and preserve the environment. We’ve learned how women — who produce much of the developing world’s food — can play a pivotal role in improving family nutrition. We’ve learned to be sensitive to traditional cultures, often supporting them by reintroducing indigenous animals. We’ve learned that we will not end hunger without educating North Americans about the role they play in global poverty and challenging ourselves to alter our lifestyles to care for the earth and its inhabitants.
Perhaps most important, Heifer has learned that global problems can be solved only if all people are committed to sharing what they have and caring about others. In a world where one billion people don’t have enough to eat, our effectiveness depends upon the sustained effort of many partners around the world. And Heifer continues to search for new partners who share our vision for a better world.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

may be to choose a day like 29/08 to organise something with our fellow fans like orphans home visit or children hospital. ... im sure that's what Michael would love us to do... just thinking aloud...[/QUOTE]

I agree, it would be great to have one or more special times in the year for concentrated efforts - especially 29/8.

One of my favourite charities is the Snow leopard trust ( http://www. snowleopard.org) and I have made my Xmas donation in memory of mj.
This charity aims to conserve snow leopards in their mountain habitats in central asia, working with local communities.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

Yeah . . . I was thinking 6/25 earlier because somehow it works for me as a way to mourn someone and show respect at the same time if that makes sense . . . 8/29 could work too, or we could do both. The birthday stuff will probably be more celebratory like Spike Lee's thing in Brooklyn, assuming that happens again next year. There was a post earlier about getting other online fanclubs to work together on this. That might be the best way to make it work.

This weekend I found an ad for this project in a magazine and looked it up on the net. I think it would be a great initiative for MJJCLegacy to do in a collective manner or maybe it's something fans can do on their own. Perhaps we can put it up for a vote?

Each year, Disney does some kind of special promotion. For 2009 you could get into any Disney Park for free on your birthday. For 2010, you will be able to get into the park free for ONE day in exchange for ONE day of volunteerism.

Now, I figured we could do this 3 ways (altho others are free to add ideas). 1) We could vote on ONE particular charity to support in MJ's honor (once Disney releases the list of charities/organizations on Jan. 1, 2010) or we can each select our own personal charity to do our one-day volunteer work for.

2) We could then use our FREE ONE-DAY passes to arrange a Fan Day at Disneyworl/Disneyland; meaning we all try to make it there on that ONE day for a meet up and have fun wearing our MJ t-shirts and whatnot. If some can stay longer as part of a vacation, that would be cool also.

ORRR...

3) We collectively donate our FREE ONE-DAY passes to a charity so children who otherwise would never get a chance to go to DW would be able to. In essence, when we complete our day of volunteerism, we will have not done it for ourselves but for the sake of a sick or underpriviledged child...in MJ's honor, if possible.

Now, if we choose #3, Disney is selecting the charity to whom we can donate our passes...and for now we don't know who the charity is or if it's more than one and we'll have a choice in who we want to receive the passes. That info may be released at the same time as the list of programs participating in the volunteer program.

When I saw this info I got so excited becuz I thought it's a great way to encourage volunteerism and wooohooo another reason to go to Disneyworld...for FREE. BUT then when I saw the option for donating the free passes, I figured that would also be a way for us to do something good not just for ourselves but for someone else twice (volunteering and then donating the passes)...altho the idea of fans having a good reason to get together and have FUN should not be frowned upon. We've all had as ishy a year as it could get in 2009. And instead of getting together for something of sorrow or legal consequence we would be able to let our inner children run wild...in the spirit of MJ. :)

Read on: (And remember that ONE day gets you the free pass but to continue to volunteer beyond that is entirely up to you :minnie: )

Article:

Breaking news…as we just announced on Good Morning America, if you give a day of volunteer service to a participating organization, you’ll get one day of free admission to a Disney Park. It’s a first-of-its-kind program we’re calling “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.”

And yes, it’s that simple — a free one-day ticket to a Disneyland or Walt Disney World theme park for guests who volunteer a day of service to a participating organization. We’re celebrating you and the good things you do for your communities.
Our program officially begins on January 1, 2010. When it’s live, you’ll be able to visit www.DisneyParks.com or www.DisneyParks.ca and search for an eligible volunteer project. After completing the volunteer work, an e-mail will be sent from Disney with a link to print out a voucher to redeem at a theme park for a free one-day, one-park admission. And if you’re unable to use the ticket, it can be donated to a charity designated by Disney.

With this announcement, we’re looking for 1 million people with a passion to make a difference. And we’re working with HandsOn Network to do it. They’re helping make sure you find the perfect volunteer work. And many of the program’s volunteer opportunities will be for the family.

Also, you’ll notice that we’re raising awareness for grass-roots community volunteerism in more cities than just Chicago. Disney VoluntEARS are joining local volunteers in cities across the United States and Canada today. Work projects involving more than 1,000 volunteers are happening in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami and across Canada — Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver.
We’ll be posting more details about the program and how it may involve your city on the @DisneyParks Twitter account and right here.
Of course, there are some official details you should know about: Must pre-register and sign up for eligible volunteer opportunity at disneyparks.com. Ticket quantities for this program are limited. Must be at least age 6 to participate. Other terms and conditions apply. For details, see disneyparks.com in the United States and Puerto Rico. In Canada, see disneyparks.ca.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

The free tickets sound amazing but is it just for the US and Canada as France has a Disney so wondering if anything was happening in Europe?

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

Ooooh that Disney project is really awesome! I love it! For as far as I can see it's not for Disneyland Paris, but don't know for sure.
If all works out I might be spending a year at L.A. from September on, so I am definitely gonna do that! :D
Let's see what we can do with it in combination with the Legacy Project.

Thanks for sharing, wendy2004!

You're all very welcome. :flowers: It's good to see some of you as excited about this idea as I am. Would be super cool if we could pull it off. :) Lots of great ideas in here.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

I posted this in another thread on MJJC. Hopefully this is not already posted here in this thread.

Here is another idea for planting trees. Go to http://www.arborday.org/replanting/index.cfm, which is the Arbor Day Foundation website. You can plant trees in memory of Michael. Quick instructions:

  1. Select the above link, you'll see an option "Plant Trees in Memory".
  2. You'll see a menu on the left side, select "Give Trees in Memory".
  3. After step #2, you'll see a picture of the outside and inside of a card that is created when you donate. Select "Order Now" at the bottom of the page.
  4. Follow the process to order. Fill out the fields as appropriate. You have options of where you'd like the card sent. I had it sent to myself first so that I can see it and then send it off to the Jackson family. If you give $25.00, 25 trees will be planted.
  5. When you donate, the money is used to replenish our national forests. The forest will benefit from your donation will be displayed as you go through the process.
We can address replenishing our forests on multiple fronts.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

Jadore, thanks for the additional info. So, for now, it's limited to the Disney parks in the USA and Canada. Well, if this is something MJJCLegacy decides to do, I suppose it would be something MJ's American and Canadian fans can participate in. I am almost certain there will be many other projects in which fans from all around the world can participate in.

I want to be Legacy Project but have no money :(

I don't believe the Legacy Project is solely about being able to give money. There's various categories they have. You may be able to contribute by simply donating your time to writing letters in response to media articles that trash Michael; correct them with facts...that sort of thing. :)

There are things you can do without money, maybe you can so some voluntary work?

Today is January 1, 2010 and more info has now been released on the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day campaign. Thanks to Mrs. Music for adding the info to another Disney Thread. :flowers:

The various organizations participating in this are many and vary according to where you live in the USA and Canada (your zip code). There's sooo many to choose from that seem fun and interesting that I totally plan to do more than just the one for the 1 free Disney day. ALSO, please be advised that some of the volunteer activities are starting very soon...as soon as NEXT WEEK! AND they will change throughout the year. So if you don't see anything that appeals to you in your area right now, there could be something in the next 6 months. Whether or not MJJCLegacy participates in this as a group, I hope many of you (in USA and Canada) will decide to participate. It's Disney and it's an opportunity to GIVE.

Disney Parks launches 'Give a Day, Get a Disney Day'

GDDGDD292845LARGE.jpg

Beginning today, Disney Parks is officially launching “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” — perform a day of volunteer service at a participating organization in 2010 and you’ll receive a free, one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park.
If you recall, we announced the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” program on The Disney Parks Blog in September. Now, you can participate. It’s simple — just sign up, volunteer and redeem.

– First, visit www.DisneyParks.com or www.DisneyParks.ca, search for a volunteer activity and sign up. TThe opportunities are being coordinated by HandsOn Network, the nation’s largest volunteer network. And as you’ll notice, many of the available activities offer opportunities for families to volunteer together.
– Next, you complete the volunteer activity selected.
– Finally, when the completed day of volunteer service has been verified by HandsOn Network, you’ll print out a voucher online (instructions will be included in a follow-up e-mail from Disney Parks) before redeeming it at a Disney Park — in California at Disneyland Resort or in Florida at Walt Disney World Resort – for a one-day, one-park ticket. If a guest determines that they won’t be able to visit a Disney park (vouchers must be redeemed and tickets used by Dec. 15, 2010), they can donate the ticket to a charity designated by Disney: Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern California; Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida; Dreams Take Flight Canada.
Keep checking The Disney Parks Blog for updates on “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.”

There are also some official details you should know about: You must pre-register and sign up for eligible volunteer opportunity at disneyparks.com. Ticket quantities for this program are limited. Must be at least age 6 to participate. Other terms and conditions apply. For details, see disneyparks.com in the United States and Puerto Rico. In Canada, see disneyparks.ca.

Soles4Souls

About Us

Changing the World – One Pair at a Time®

Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 7 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 9 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Soles4Souls has been featured in Runner's World, Ladies’ Home Journal, National Geographic’s Green Guide, and The New York Times. It has appeared on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC, CNN and thousands of regional news outlets across North America. Soles4Souls is a 501(c)(3) recognized by the IRS and donating parties are eligible for tax advantages. Anyone can join our cause, and we need your help.

Soles4Souls facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. Shoe companies, retailers, and individuals can donate footwear (both new and used).

The idea behind gifts of shoes is nothing new to the Soles4Souls team, as they coordinated relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over 1 Million pairs donated for these disasters. The team originally operated as www.katrinashoes.org with several churches partnering in the collection and distribution of footwear.

Soles4Souls Collecting Donations to Aid in the Relief Effort in Chile

In response to the 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile, the second country to be devastated by a quake in less than 8 weeks, Soles4Souls, the shoe charity, is asking the general public to help send aid to the survivors of this natural disaster. For less than $5, people can make a difference in an individual’s life with the gift of shoes and clothing.

“The devastation in Chile is heartbreaking. We are asking individuals to help the survivors of this quake begin to rebuild their lives,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. “For the cost of a venti coffee, people can make a difference in the lives of two individuals by helping them receive shoes and clothing.”

Soles4Souls recently launched Clothes4Souls, a charitable clothing division, to help facilitate the distribution of new clothing to people in need. Clothes4Souls is collecting new clothing from manufacturers and retail partners.

All of the donations received will be used for the Chile relief effort. Individuals interested in donating funds can donate here.

The country of Chile was devastated Saturday by the earthquake with nearly 1,000 deaths already confirmed, and millions of people without water or electricity around the capital of Santiago. This comes almost seven weeks after the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the capital of Haiti, where Soles4Souls has committed more than 1.3 million pairs of shoes and other supplies. More than 230,000 people were killed in Haiti and more than 1 million are still homeless.

I think having something like this is a great idea as we have raised a lot of money before in Michael's name for Haiti and the planting trees initiative. Maybe having a different charity every month or something like that. This one is a great charity though and Chile is getting a bit ignored by the media so we need to do something.
