Cris123 posted this in another thread. I think this is great!

Hello fellow fans,

I don't know if you remember that a group of fans set up a charity right after Michael's death, Heal the World for Children. We organized a Children's festival in LA on his birthday (see the website for pictures), and now we are organizing hospital visits to give children gifts and smiles on November 20, declared by UN the International Children's Day (Michael's dream).

This is our website. Hospital visits in multiple cities across the world are planned. I am organizing the NYC visit to Beth Israel hospital and trying to collect toys. If you want to donate toys please email the website address. You can also donate money through paypal, and please mention for NYC visit in the title. Or you can buy t-shirts with the logo, also to help our cause.

http://www.healtheworldforchildren.org/Event_Index.html

We can together keep Michael's dream alive, and I know he will be smiling down to us. I miss him so much, this charity keeps me going, it's everything I have left.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart

You can join our FB group too.

Guys, continuing Michael's legacy is how we can maintain that bond with him forever. Heal the World for Children is a volunteering group made by his fans, most of them fans who knew Michael personally. We are going to make kids happy the way Michael wanted. Here is a pic for our next event on November 20. You can help by organizing a visit in your city, by donating toys or money.

From Moonwalker to Miracle Worker

Written by Dr. Firpo W. Carr, (Columnist)

The legacy of Michael Jackson

At Motown's 25-year anniversary celebration Michael Jackson moonwalked his way right into the hearts and souls of millions. Questions like, "Did you see that?" and "How did he do that?" rang around the universe. And neither was his own family immune. They were as dazed and amazed as anyone else at the jaw-dropping stunt. Without a doubt, it was a most memorable occasion, nothing short of miraculous. And, speaking of miracles, if you ask ten people to define the world "miracle" you'd probably get ten different answers. The Bible immediately comes to mind when some think of a miracle. Take for instance the story of Jonah and the whale.

Even though the Bible doesn't specifically say it was a whale, skeptics think the story a bit fishy anyway. (Jonah 1:17) In actuality, that a man can be swallowed whole by a great sea monster is well within the bounds of reality. Take the whale shark for example. In quoting National Geographic one magazine recounts: "'The whale shark's unusual digestive anatomy,' reported National Geographic magazine, 'lends itself to Jonah stories,' referring to the Biblical incident about the prophet Jonah being swallowed by a great fish. Whale sharks have 'a nonviolent way of getting rid of large objects of dubious digestibility they swallow accidentally.'" (As quoted in the December 2009, issue of Awake!, a magazine that Michael Jackson used to distribute from door to door.)

But a miracle doesn't have to be restricted to events (or persons) chronicled in the Bible record. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a "miracle" can be "One that excites admiring awe." By this definition, Michael Jackson was a moonwalking "miracle." Furthermore, the sheer magnitude of his charitable acts--both known and unknown--are 'miraculous' in and of themselves. The following is the last in the three lists of "miracles" published in this column that Michael Jackson performed before what many see as his untimely, orchestrated, preventable death.

January 19, 1993: Michael is one of the stars that performs at the Presidential Inauguration of Bill Clinton. Before he sings Gone Too Soon he draws attention to the plight of AIDS victims and mentions his friend Ryan White.

January 26, 1993: At a press conference held at Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, Michael is presented with a $200,000 donation from the National Football League and Super Bowl sponsors. He gets another $500,000 from the BEST Foundation for his "Heal The World" Foundation. At this occasion the foundation of "Heal L.A." is officially announced.

February 1993: In association with computer game giant Sega, Michael launches an initiative to distribute more than $108,000 of computer games and equipment to children's hospitals, children's homes, and children's charities throughout the U.K.

October 1993: Michael donates $100,000 to the Children's Defense Fund, the Children's Diabetes Foundation, the Atlanta Project, and the Boys and Girl Clubs of Newark, New Jersey.

October 22, 1993: Michael visits a hospital in Santiago, Chile.

October 28, 1993: Michael makes it possible for 5,000 underprivileged children to visit the Reino Aventura Park where the whale Keiko ("Free Willy") is living.

November 5, 1993: Michael is guest at a children's party at the Hard Rock Cafe in Mexico City.

December 1993: With the backing of funds provided by Michael Jackson the Gorbachev Foundation airlifts 60,000 doses of children's vaccines to Tblisi, Georgia.

June 21, 1996: Michael donated a four-time platinum disc of HIStory in aid of the Dunblane appeal at the Royal Oak Hotel, Sevenoaks in England.

July 18, 1996: In Soweto, South Africa Michael lays down a wreath of flowers for youngsters who have been killed during the fights involving Apartheid.

September 1996: Michael Jackson is a special guest at the first Sports Festival "Hope" event held for orphans and disadvantaged children. Up to 3,000 children and an additional 600 volunteers take part in the festival event.

September 6, 1996: Michael visits the children's unit of a hospital in Prague. Though details are unclear, it appears that while there he launches the Michael Jackson International Book Club, which is part of his new Heal the Kids charity. The book club aims to promote childhood reading and encourages parents to return to reading bedtime stories to children.

September 15, 2002: Michael donates 16 exclusively autographed items consisting of CDs and videos (as well as two cotton napkins since there was nothing else to write on) to aid in the support of the victims of a severe flood in Germany. These items are auctioned off for charity and manage to raise several thousand dollars.

October 12, 2002: In showing his respect for the sacrifices military men and women make in behalf of their country Michael Jackson invites more than 200 Team Vandenberg members and their families to his Neverland Ranch. Vandenberg Air Force Base is relatively close to Neverland Ranch. Those invited have recently returned from overseas deployments.

November 21, 2002: Michael donates a jacket to The Bambi Charity Event in Berlin, Germany. The jacket goes for $16,000.

April 25, 2002: Michael Jackson performs at a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, helping to raise nearly $3 million dollars towards voter registration.

June 2003: The Wolf family, who experienced serious damages to their belongings during the flood in Saxony, Germany in August 2002, is invited to Berlin by Michael while he's at the Bambi Awards. He then invites them to Neverland where they spend three days meeting with Michael and his children.

When it comes to Michael Jackson's enduring charitable works toward all God's children I'm reminded of the Scripture text that reads: "God is always fair. He will remember how you helped his people in the past and how you are still helping them. You belong to God, and he won't forget the love you have shown his people." (Hebrews 6:10, Contemporary English Version) Neither will the persons who were on the receiving end of his charity forget his love.

And finally, won't it be heartwarming when the words of Revelation 21:4 come to pass? Speaking of those who are suffering the pain of losing Michael (and countless others), it says that God "will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever." (New Living Translation) In the meantime stay up. Stay strong. And keep the faith. Amen.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

For MJ fans in the Montreal, Quebec Area, I have selected three organizations that have proven themselves over several decades in our community.

Ronald McDonald's House (Montreal)
http://www.rmhc.ca/

Manoir Ronald McDonald (Quebec City)
Fondation des Amis de L'Enfance (Quebec) Inc. 2747, boul. Laurier
Ste. Foy, (Quebec) G1V 2L9

Telephone: (418) 651-1771
Fax: (418) 651-1772

Montreal Children's Hospital

Ste-Justine Hospital
http://www.chu-sainte-justine.org/Home/default.aspx

I selected these organizations because they are all three linked together and also, I have had the chance to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald's House. Both hospitals & the Ronald House provide great services to children with life threatening diseases and their family.

I started volunteering at the RMH 2 years ago, after my 4 year old nephew passed away from cancer. I had the chance to meet many kids with life threatening diseases and was inspired to make my own contribution.

You can contact all these organizations on their websites to know where your services might be of better use. The holidays are fast approaching, don't hesitate to lend a hand.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

For anyone in and around Peterborough in England, UK here is something you can do for disadvantaged children in your local community this Christmas.

Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough city centre has its own Giving Tree and Christmas wrapping service.

In conjunction with Heart Radio, Queensgate will be running their new Giving Tree, teaming up with local children's charities to give kids the Christmas they deserve. While you're shopping in the centre, simply pick up a name tag from The Giving Tree, buy an extra present and drop it off before you head home.

If you fancy saving a bit of time and having your presents wrapped, then why not take advantage of the charity wrapping service outside the Disney store, in the centre from 22 November. In return for a donation to Queensgate's nominated charity Sue Ryder Care, all your presents will be beautifully wrapped right before your eyes.

Crisis Christmas Appeal

Don't forget the forgotten this Christmas

With rising unemployment and pay-cuts many people will be worried they can't make ends meet this Christmas.

But tens of thousands of homeless people never enjoyed the boom years before the recession and now find themselves even lower down the pecking order; facing a miserable and lonely Christmas with even less chance of finding a home.

Over eight days, Crisis welcomes up to 2,000 homeless people to our nine special Christmas centres.

Many will arrive with nothing more than a rotten sleeping bag, if that. They'll be counting on Crisis to provide food, shelter and life-changing services - like housing and job advice - to help them find a route out of homelessness.

Donations Page

£25.64 could provide a place at one of our centres for one day, where a homeless person will get three meals, a bed if they need it, and the chance to leave homelessness behind for good.

£50 could buy a Christmas Dinner for 100 people.

£100 could go towards health treatment for up to ten people - and help them find out about counselling and courses that could have an impact for a lifetime.

The Crisis Promise

Volunteer for Disabled and Sick
Donate to Blind, Dyslexic, Seniors, Children, Drug-Addicted Babies

Becoming a volunteer is not only a noble thing to do, but is self-fulfilling as well. Many people are in need of assistance, and numerous volunteer organizations exist to steer donors in the proper direction to make a difference in these individual’s lives. There are ways to implement volunteerism behind the scenes, as well as in a hands-on capacity.

Providing Assistance for Disabled
Helping people with disabilities can be rewarding for both the person in need as well as the volunteer.

One great way to help volunteer is through a program called Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. By narrating a book into an audio format, students who are legally blind or who have troubles reading can have easy access to downloadable textbooks. Locations are nationwide. For more information, the nationwide contact number is 800-803-7201.

The Braille Institute is another great place to volunteer to help people with disabilities. Located throughout California, numerous volunteer opportunities are available that are waiting to be filled by a generous heart. More information can be obtained by calling Michelle Sheridan at 323-663-1111, Ext. 3160.

Health Care Volunteer and Senior Care
Many hospitals accept volunteers eagerly. Children’s areas are a great place to start, by donating time reading to sick children or playing games with them. Just having visitors can brighten the day of a scared youth. Volunteer positions are usually available for individuals who prefer to work behind the scenes as well, rather than one-on-one.

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

Orphaned as a small child in a poor South African township, 12-year old Moses lives alone at the local dump, surrounded by gangs and drug users.

Foraging through mounds of rubbish for food...shoeless and freezing during the cold, lonely nights - every day is an epic struggle.

And yet, the most amazing thing about Moses isn't how he survives, but who he survives with.

You see, despite his tragic circumstances, Moses spends his desperate days at the dump caring for more than 20 dogs whose owners have died or been killed.

This holiday, I hope you'll consider giving something truly meaningful to those you love. An IFAW Gift of Life that will help bring an end to the suffering of dogs and cats in the poorest places on earth.

IFAW's Dog and Cat Rescue Project in Johannesburg brings vet care to the pets of those like Moses who could never afford to take care of pets on their own. Quite often, we come across sick, impoverished or malnourished individuals like Moses who need extra assistance for both themselves and their pets.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of IFAW supporters like you, we've been able to spay, neuter and fully vaccinate all of Moses' dogs. And we've provided Moses with clothes and food, medical care, and school tuition so that he'll be better able to look after his dogs for years to come!

Moses' story shows how much people love animals and come to depend on them even in the worst of times. And how much every Gift of Life, no matter how big or small, can help make a real difference.

Please help me make more holiday wishes come true this season. With a gift of just $25 or more you'll receive a beautiful gift card and Gift of Life Certificate, showing how your gift in a loved one's name is saving the lives of animals.

This is not a gift that will simply be opened and then forgotten. The donation you make in your loved one's name will help more people like Moses who can't afford to provide basic care for their pets.

Thank you for your kindness this holiday season.

With Gratitude,

Fred O'Regan
IFAW President & CEO

P.S. It takes $1,000 to provide veterinary care for 50 dogs and cats in South Africa...so every gift counts! Give before December 10th to ensure your gift package arrives in time for the holidays!

Re: MJJC LEGACY PROJECT - Make That Change!

idk - maybe this might be too hard to do, but do you think we could make a donation to one group collectively next June 25th? I donated a little bit in his name to some random public education charity a few days after he died, but I was thinking it would be great if some organization suddenly got thousands of checks from us next June 25th.

There's got to be about 10,000 or so hard core types around the world that can get together a $100 each by next year. It would be pretty sweet to donate a $1mm in honor of michael jackson.

I think this is an outstanding idea. I'm definitely in. Also, TheChosenOne mentioned in meeting minutes that one of the things we can do is partner with other fan websites. I belong to another fan site, which I feel is very good. The site is www.mjfanclub.net. I'd be happy to coordinate this effort with them if you give me the green light to do so.

I'll post the children's charities I found for Finland. I'll add to the list if/when I find more. These all have info in English too. I'm adding it too for reference, except for Unicef as it's so well known.
