Janet Jackson cancels Sydney Opera House concert an hour before show
by: By Kathy McCabe, Music Editor From: The Daily Telegraph November 06, 2011 11:40PM

JANET Jackson fans got a rude shock when they turned up to her Sydney Opera House show tonight to find she had cancelled the performance just an hour before she was due on stage.
A short statement issued by Janet Jackson’s Australian promoter pulled the gig at 7.30pm.

Jackson interrupted her "Up Close And Personal" tour of Australia last week to return to America for the trial of her brother Michael’s doctor Conrad Murray.

She returned to perform one concert in Melbourne which squeezed three planned shows into a not-so-intimate and shortened one night stand at Rod Laver Arena.

Fans who had paid more than $300 were left disappointed by her late arrival and truncated performance.

Jackson lobbed in Sydney on Friday for her opening Opera House show on Saturday.

But fans who turned up to tonight’s show, many of whom had organised babysitters and travelled into the city to find out they had arrived at a non-event, were told their concert would not be rescheduled.

"Doctors have ordered Miss Jackson to undertake vocal rest for the next 2 days, so she can complete the 3rd and final show of her Australian tour, this Tuesday night at the Sydney Opera House," the statement read.

Its one thing for a concert to be cancelled days before a performance, but to be at the location anticipating your show, only to be told its cancelled must've been a bummer. They must be one pissed off bunch.

well good.. Ms Jackson should've been in America anyway in LA waiting to see if her brother's killer will be convicted.

I went to Janets concert last Thursday in Melbourne :D omg she was incredible i got the tickets on the day was so excited it wasnt very publicised in Australia i guess cause she went back for the trial. She dances like a 20 yr old and her tributes to Michael were so sweet. At the end she said to us all she loves us and thanks us for our support not just for her but for her whole family. She seems like such a sweet person one of the best nights ever!

How someone can say it is good that thousands of people went out to a show to have it cancelled due to doctors wishes, because Janet couldn't make the verdict due to her schedule is beyond me but whatever.

Janet completed what would have been her third night at the Sydney Opera House last night, but obviously due to her second show being cancelled it was just her second night. Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union were both in attendance at the show in Sydney. Janet mentioned the trial at the end of the show saying "justice was good today y'all"

Janet leaving the venue:

Janet will be leaving for Johannesburg in the morning for her shows over there.

Sorry I didn't come in here sooner, but I went to her Melbourne concert and it was AMAZING. Completely wiped my mind of all the stress and disappointment over the shows being combined. She was just astoundingly good, she sang like no other and her dancing was off the hook! I danced, I cried, I sang along.

Just mindblowng. She is a true performer through and through.

Glad you had such a great time kindofdisco ;)

Janet performed her first of 2 sold out shows in Johannesburg yesterday, she dedicated Miss You Much to the crowd. The highlight of the show was said to be That's The Way Love Goes, which remains the best selling single by any female artist in South Africa. No videos as of yet have surfaced, as soon as they do I will post them on here :)

January 27,2012 São Paulo Brazil 28 January 28,2012 Sao Paulo Brazil February 3, 2012 Santiago Chile rumoured dates for South america

For the mj fan who said janet is not big or has no fans in brazil ...trust me staying in a country doesn't give you first hand knowledge about an artist's fan base there ..you may stay there but you do not know the music taste of everybody in that country ....When a concert of an artist is announced fans of the person crawl out of the woodworks i will even hold my words for when videos of her performance in south america surface and then you can see how "smart you sounded"

Another country where i hear janet has quite a fan base is ukraine,..i stayed there and didn't know..italy too and also Morroco

You are very right about that IDRAG4MJ, I once thought that MJ was not popular here where I live because all people used to talk about was how they found him weird and whatnot, but I later found there are lots of big fans and fanatics too here!

Here's a video of the behind the scenes from her photoshoot at the Yas Arena, she was the first person to be photographed there:

How was she able to 'perform' when her brother's killer was on trial?

^^^^Get out of the thread please.and go bitch about that somewhere else

How was she able to 'perform' when her brother's killer was on trial?

It just shows you how much Janet cares about her fans. It must have been hell performing during that time, but she did it anyway and put on an amazing performance for her fans.

Precisely, it has been said time and time again that Janet planned a gap in the tour during which time she could be present at the trial, and as we know the trial was pushed back and Janet was no longer free. She attended every day she could possibly make and rescheduled dates so she could come to even more, and still people ask stupid questions, disappointing thousands of people is obviously something Janet didn't want to do and rightly so!

Anyway I just came to say Janet's second sold out show in Johannesburg took place last night, she dedicated scream to Johannesburg. The next date will take place on the 15th in Cape Town, South Africa at the Grand Arena at Grand West Casino.

Not sure where to put this, but figured janet fans would look at this thread. In uk, bbc4 are having a documentary on janet on friday 18 november at 10pm if people are interested. Will prob be on bbci player if you miss it, but think that is only for uk residents.

Janet Jackson: Taking Control

Duration: 1 hour

Emerging from the shadows of the most famous family in showbusiness to become a superstar in her own right, Janet Jackson was one of the biggest female pop icons of the 80s and 90s, scoring huge international hits with songs such as What Have You Done For Me Lately? and Nasty.

This film examines Janet's phenomenal career, from her early success as a teenage actress in hit US sitcom Diff'rent Strokes to multi award-winning pop star rivalling her brother's success with ten number one singles on the American Billboard charts and worldwide album sales of over 65 million. The struggle to control both her creative and personal life is central to Janet's development as an artist and key to understanding her story - from escaping the clutches of her overbearing father to the thirst for new challenges in her groundbreaking collaborations with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Dubbed the 'Queen of Radio' in America, she always seemed capable of maintaining her broad-base appeal - until the infamous 2004 American Super Bowl appearance alongside Justin Timberlake.

Featuring an exclusive interview with Janet Jackson and contributions from the likes of Jimmy Jam, Janet's brother Jackie Jackson, actor Deborah Allen and British pop talent Estelle.

Those photos from Sydney.....DAYUM.

That woman is 100 percent gorgeous. Look at her!! She just glows.

And how was the documentary?
You can watch it again. It's on right now (on BBC4)

It's good so far, but one comment annoyed me: "MJ's records weren't as personal as Janet's" Uhmm... okaaayyy. It's probably best to ignore the comment since this is a Janet documentary... :) Obviously they'd always and forever compare her to MJ. There was only one mention of her being competition for Madonna.
Something made me laugh, though: it never seizes to surprise me how ppl always mention Janet's Virgin record deal as the highest in history but fail to mention that Michael's Sony record deal was higher.
Nevertheless, it was a nice documentary which focused on her music. I wish they had shown a bit more about the time after Velvet Rope and now... oh well.

^ the comment about her being the highest paid entertainer, even higher than MJ's at the time is true, then Michael broke her record the next day I believe

The documentary can now be watched on BBC iplayer or youtube, it was a good documentary I thought, not 100 percent correct in all aspects, for example saying MJ was acquitted in 94, which isn't a bad thing :)
