@AbsolutelyBabb lol thank you! she was so great I was captivated!

Don't know what's going on with the costumes, tonight she wore a white tank top with the jeans, and then changed the white tank top to a black one. But she dances a lot more when she isn't wearing the heels, so I suppose its a good thing.

^^ Thanks for the pictures :)

So, its been officially confirmed by Janet's website, that the 35 city concept is being dropped due to the high demand of the tour:

Success of Janet Jackson's Number Ones tour' prompts extension of U.S. dates and European legs until fall

As a result of massive sellouts for performances in Asia and North America, the JANET JACKSON ‘Number Ones: Up Close & Personal Tour’ is being expanded. JANET’s largest ever world tour will now be vastly extended to even more global cities in addition to the currently scheduled performances in London, Paris and Monte Carlo. The North American leg of the tour, which is currently underway, will be continued in the fall after a scheduled spring and summer in Europe. Originally slated as a world tour of 35 cities to match the 35 number one singles from her double-disc album, NUMBER ONES, JANET will now greatly exceed her planned dates. The high demand from key venues on several continents will bring Janet around the world and back again. Several of the concerts on the initial schedule were sold-out in the first ten minutes of availability.

The star, addressing the new scope of her concert commitment, observed,
“When creating music or a tour, I draw from what is going on in my life and hope that the fans relate to it. I am excited to know that the fans are having a great time at my shows and are asking for more. Thanks for all the love and your input on where I should take the show next. I’ll see you soon!” said JANET.

Critics have been as enthusiastic about her concert performances as have her fans. Here is a sampling of the media praise for her nightly performance of songs selected from her thirty-five number one singles:

“More than a week has passed since I saw JANET JACKSON at Radio City Music Hall, and I’m still smiling…” --New York Times, Rob Hoerburger

“This is one tour not to miss, a tour on which you can see a pop icon who has done it all, giving you her all.” --BET, Clay Cane

“This was a concert displaying her growth as an artist and the tracks released during the journey.” --Entertainment Weekly, Brad Wete

“The best Janet Jackson performance I’ve covered in 20-plus years.” -- Chicago Tribune, Greg Kot

“Often imitated, never duplicated, Janet Jackson's outbursts of meticulous choreography, sassy exclamations and smoldering gazes into the audience kept them on their feet for the entire two-hour set .” -- MTV, Vaughn Schoonmaker

“The crowd, standing since Ms. Jackson hit the stage, was in full dance mode and remained so throughout the evening.” – The Republican, Donnie Moorehouse (CT)

“Friday’s concert was unusually self-knowing, as if she’d returned from a long silence and felt ready to give the truly boiled-down version of her career.” --NY Times, Ben Ratliff

“She did say it was going to be one that’s up close and personal. And boy, did Janet Jackson live up to that promise.”-- Zaki Jufri I-S Magazine (Singapore)

“It was an evening to remember: her first Boston show since she came to town in 2001 for the ‘All for You’ tour.” – Boston Globe, James Reed

“A tightly choreographed greatest hits show, and that’s exactly what Jackson delivered Monday in the first of three sold-out concerts at the Chicago Theatre.”-- Chicago Tribune, Greg Kot

“Janet Jackson’s show at the sold-out Wang Theatre last night didn’t really feel like a run-of-the-mill concert. It was more like reconnecting with the best friend you haven’t seen in years.”-- Boston Herald, Lauren Carter

“She continues to be Miss Jackson - if you're nasty - to paraphrase one of her biggest hits.” – Press of Atlantic City, by Robert DiGiacomo for At The Shore

The extension, by popular demand, reflects the icon’s great success earlier this year when her first book, “True You,” shot to the number one position on The New York Times best-seller list in the first week of its publication. “True You,” published by Karen Hunter Publishing, an imprint of Gallery Books at Simon & Schuster, chronicles Janet's lifelong struggles with weight and self-esteem. The book is a self-help guide where Janet used anecdotes from her life to illustrate the power of self-esteem and her struggles to achieve it.

Shortly after topping the best-seller list as she has long done on the record-sales charts, JANET signed a deal with Lionsgate to produce a schedule of films for the famed Hollywood studio. JANET recently starred in Tyler Perry's critically acclaimed motion picture "For Colored Girls." JANET starred in as well as co-wrote and produced the song “Nothing” for the film "Why Did I Get Married Too?” JANET’s performance as Patricia in the film earned her an NAACP Image Award Nomination for Best Actress. JANET’s performance of “Nothing” achieved number one status on iTunes. Each of those films was distributed by Lionsgate.

No I'm surprised they didn't release them with the announcement, soon hopefully. I really hope she does a lot of European concerts, she needs to re-familiarize herself here (more so outside of the UK), so the more shows the better,.

Yes, me too. I was surprised that Monte Carlo was among the first dates she announced here. But let's hope there will be a lot more in our continent :)

Would love to go see her in Amsterdam. But Rotterdam, Ahoy stadium would be better :)

She has performed at the Ahoy Stadium quite a few times, so it could be, but it isn't very intimate is it

This isn't the thread for people's beef with Katherine. This is about the tour, don't bring Mann into this. There are other threads for that.

Janet will be doing what's being labeled as 'An Evening With Janet Jackson' at the Iowa State Fair, an event where stars such as Elton John, The Jackson 5, Christina Aguilera, Sonny & Cher and many more.

http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2011/04/15/janet-jackson-at-the-iowa-state-fair/

We didn’t get a butter Michael Jackson at the Iowa State Fair in 2009, but we will get his sister Janet (in flesh, not butter form) for the final day of the fair, playing the Grandstand on Aug. 21.

The concert, dubbed “An Evening with Janet Jackson,” is a part of her “Number Ones, Up Close and Personal” tour, in support of her 2009 “Number Ones” greatest hits album. Plans for the tour at the time of the album’s release were canceled due to health concerns and the 2009 economic crisis.

Her hits include “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “Rhythm Nation,” “Black Cat” and “Love Will Never Do Without You.”

Tickets for the show are $55-$65 and go on sale (along with all other Grandstand acts) April 30 through Ticketmaster.

Janet Jackson launches three-date stint at Gibson Amphitheatre with no frills, hits-heavy set

6a00d8341c630a53ef01538ddf1510970b-600wi

Janet Jackson hadn’t surfaced on-stage and the house lights had yet to fall over the Gibson Amphitheatre on Thursday night when pandemonium erupted in the audience.

Flanked by a bevy of bodyguards, Jackson’s mother, Katherine, and older brothers Jermaine and Randy strolled to their seats as a cheering audience set off a continuous stream of flashes from cameras and cellphones and started to swarm the famous family.

A closeby row began chanting “Michael! Michael! Michael!” with as many fans dressed in T-shirts emblazoned with the family’s departed king as they were in Janet branded tops.

For a family that’s had every tragedy and triumph documented in front of the public eye, it wasn’t surprising that family members would show up to support Janet on the first of three sold-out dates in Los Angeles on her "Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour" –- but the sighting (just one of a long string of celebs who dotted the audience, including cast members from her last films, “For Colored Girls” and “Why Did I Get Married,” and producer Babyface) was too much for fans as one girl within earshot squealed, “I can’t believe they are seating with us.”

With security forced to intervene and direct gawkers to their seats, Jackson emerged onstage in a white tank, jeans and military boots –- but not before playing two of her hits in tribute to the audience (fans from each city on the stint had the opportunity to vote on the selections).

While today’s pop landscape of over-the-top divas like Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Britney Spears have become known for glitzy productions, it took less than a second to realize Jackson hadn’t set out to deliver a flashy spectacle.

Jackson, who was touring as a treat to her fans with material exclusively chosen from her double-disc “Number Ones” compilation (she hasn’t released an album in more than three years), ditched the glossy arena pomp – she has plenty of record-breaking treks under her belt –- for the more intimate Gibson Amphitheatre.

The 44-year-old provided a no-frills show that was light on costume changes (only three), void of flashy pyrotechnics and eye-popping scenery –- all the things associated with the Jackson brand. The show was, however, heavy on hits.

She placed the focus of her set squarely on showcasing her voice -– it should be noted that she sang live for the nearly two-hour show, a rarity in today’s pop music -- and the legendary complex footwork that marked her and brother Michael as pop royalty.

From smashes such as “Control,” “Scream,” “Escapade,” “All For You” and “Together Again” to more obscure hits "The Best Things in Life Are Free” and “Diamonds,” Jackson managed to offer nearly 30 of her 35 No. 1 singles to an audience who remained seated only during three video montages, one of which featured a reel of some of her acting roles.

In her first tour since her brother Michael’s 2009 death, MJ’s presence was felt, whether it was adding moves he perfected or paying tribute to him in pictures during “Together Again” –- where she became emotional and stopped singing, instead extending her hands up above as the crowd sang the words and watched a slide show of childhood pictures of the two. (Her family left prior to the tribute.)

Fans have been clamoring for Jackson to return to the stage after her brief 2008 "Rock Witchu Tour" was marred with hiccups including cancellations.

After tickets to Thursday’s show sold out in less than 10 minutes when they went on sale in January, Jackson added an additional performance for Friday -- which quickly sold out, as well. Jackson and Live Nation then added another show set for Saturday.

The 35-city tour (one for each of her 35 No. 1 hits) has also sold out multiple nights in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Atlantic City, N.J., as well as single nights in Atlanta and Santa Barbara.

For the trek, Jackson called on her fans to vote for the cities that would constitute the itinerary, and due to the overwhelming tickets sales -– a welcome problem for a veteran act like Jackson –- the tour was recently extended to include additional cities.

The next North American leg of the tour is being planned for the fall, after Jackson's upcoming run of spring and summer dates in Europe.

Set list from night one of Los Angeles stint:

The Pleasure Principle / Control / What Have You Done for Me Lately? / Feedback / You Want This / Alright / Miss You Much / Nasty / Nothing / Come Back to Me / Let’s Wait Awhile / Again / Escapade / Love Will Never Do (Without You) / When I Think of You / That’s the Way Love Goes / I Get So Lonely / Black Cat / If / Scream / Rhythm Nation

Encore: Diamonds / The Best Things in Life Are Free / Throb / Make Me / Together Again

The entire Jackson Family, Chris Tucker, BabyFace, Paris Hilton, Malika Yoba, Michael Ealy are all at @JanetJackson's show. Missing anyone?

WhoreHeeeyy

+ I saw Katherine Jackson, Tito, Randy & Michael's kids :* Tonight was the greatest night ever!!!

Aww so nice that the kids went to the show, the security was really strict on the subject of them from what I've heard, if someone as much as tried to take a picture of them, they were told they would be kicked out.

Eric Estrada, the Wayne's Brothers, Kobe Bryant, Raven Symone and the family were all there again.

Again the family were at the last night in LA, this time Latoya joined them, Brian Friedman was also there, among other celebrities. Janet dedicated both All For You and Together Again to LA.

Oh, and to let you guys know, Janet will be doing a behind the scenes piece for The Insider, which will air on Monday.

Next show: Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, Janet will be doing 2 nights on the 19th and 20th.

Not that strict because there's a picture of Prince and Blanket at the concert which you can see on fan sites. Paris took them with her iphone so she leaked them herself. Anyway, nice to see the kids there but sad that they got emotional. Heard they cried during "Scream". :(

How did they do Scream? The same way she did it on that MTV Tribute? I hope a video clip appears on youtube :/

Also, Janet looks GORGEOUS. I love the fact that she has pants on because so many pop stars today (including Madonna) don't wear pants on stage anymore! It's like a rule for female popstars "no pants" so love the fact she is wearing them and she looks so pretty!

Edit: Just found this

At the Gibson Amphitheatre on Thursday night, Janet Jackson opted for more modest stage costumes for her performances, doing away with last month's low cut and tight latex jumpsuit. You might, too, if a good chunk of your family was in attendance!

Flanked by a bevy of bodyguards, Jackson’s mother, Katherine, and older brothers Jermaine and Randy strolled to their seats as a cheering audience set off a continuous stream of flashes from cameras and started to swarm the famous family. (Michael's three children also came out to see their aunt that night.)

A closeby row began chanting “Michael! Michael! Michael!” with as many fans dressed in T-shirts emblazoned with the family’s departed king as they were in Janet branded tops.

Indeed, in her first tour since her brother Michael’s 2009 death, MJ’s presence was felt, whether it was adding moves he perfected or paying tribute to him in pictures during “Together Again” –- where Janet became emotional and stopped singing, instead extending her hands up above as the crowd sang the words and watched a slide show of childhood pictures of the two.

Janet was not the only one to get a little choked up. According to a fan seated in front of the Jackson family in the audience, Katherine Jackson and Michael's three children (Prince, Paris, and Blanket) started crying as video of the late singer played across the screen during a performance of "Scream" (the famous 1995 Michael/Janet duet). After their emotional outburst, Katherine and the children soon left the concert.

Because tickets to Thursday’s show sold out in less than 10 minutes when they went on sale in January, Jackson added an additional performance for Friday -- which quickly sold out, as well. Jackson and Live Nation then added another show set for Saturday.

The next North American leg of the "Rhythm Nation" singer's tour is being planned for the fall, after Jackson's upcoming run of spring and summer dates in Europe.

She does Scream similar to the way she did it at the VMA's right until the bridge, then when the dance should kick in, it changes into Rhythm Nation.
Here's a video :

And your right about artists rarely covering themselves up, even when Janet wore the catsuit and it seemed she was revealing the sides through the netting she wasn't, she wears skin coloured material, you can see it on the kneepad area and when she moves you can see creases in it.

Box office scores for the shows:

Chicago Theatre
10,403 / 10,403 (100%)
$1,350,916

Fox Theatre
4,395 / 4,395 (100%)
$489,430

Santa Barbara Bowl
9,158 /9,352(98%)
$741,144

Radio City Hall
17,662 /17,662(100%)
$1,976,484

The tour seems to be doing very well, I wish she would focus more on Europe though, she really needs to get her career back on track here, besides the UK, and maybe a few other countries, she hasn't been to tour or promote in nearly 15 years here!
