Iconic artist PRINCE passes away at age 57

Re: The Singer PRINCE died????

Because those types of fans of another artists are upset that MJ is viewed the best over who they love. But in all most fans love both men or liked one over the other but still had respect for MJ and did not deny his talent. Also, cheap shots are so going to be done by nutty people. Even on Yahoo, some people are taking shots at Prince. Idoits behind keyboards.

You should have saw the comments on Yahoo when Thriller got certified 30x plat.
So many haters were salty and seething. :rollin:

Janet Jackson a genius!?

She's talented, yes but not all the talented people are automatically geniuses. She's generic to say the least, Prince was absolutely right!
Even though I'm not his fan, I have no problem to say Prince was a musical genius.

I'm SO tired of seeing Janet being made fun of and shaded.
There's really is no need.

I really would like to know what Janet did to people to make them constantly say mean things about her.
She does nothing but live her life yet the media likes to clown her.

Re: Iconic artist PRINCE Passes away at age 57!

You should take some chill pills Pink, don't be a Stan fan over her! I wasn't laughing at Janet, I was laughing at the ridiculousness of that assumption.

Yahoo is a VERY racist place in its comment section.

I've been on another website too (in my country) and people were throwing all kind of insults at Prince for no reason at all. People who probably don't even know him or his work much. In my country, I don't think a lot of people "get him" as an artist, he is not very popular here, but if you don't care why can't you just ignore? Especially at this time. So many idiots indeed.

Yahoo? Oh no, the internet itself is a very racist place in comments section. Any and everywhere.

I have an illness that involves me having to read youtube comments and actually engage with stupid people (in regards to various things in general).
It goes no where.

I'm working hard to avoid the comments section anywhere, or at least just leave whatever comment I have and move on.

Prince gave his opinion and others on here did. Thats not hating.imo janets a box standard female singer dancer the same as many others that have been around the last 20 years.

The haters and media have used whats happened as just another stick to beat mj with. Shouldnt be surprised but hey ho

It's not just you it's the media in general.
Not long ago there was an article on some website that went IN on Janet.
It was so bad it got taken down.

I know not everyone likes Janet but I feel as though almost all of the hate directed at her isn't needed that's all.

Yes, that's true unfortunately.

Regarding Prince's comment on Janet. Maybe it has to do with the fact that Janet's whole sound - especially her 80s albums - is very strongly based on Prince's sound (through Jam&Lewis who came from the Minnepolis school), so maybe Prince didn't consider her original enough or something. I don't know. But it doesn't mean he thought she sucked. Just that he didn't think she was genius level. Not everyone is a genius.

It's not just you it's the media in general.

Wasn't that the article that compared her and Beyoncé, praising Beyoncé and bashing Janet? Yes, that was a horrible and childish article, so no wonder it was taken down.

But I don't find Prince saying Janet is "a genius's sister" is in the same category as a blatant diss article with lots of stupidity.

This couldn't be more true.
All it takes to be a "genius" or a "legend" now is one half way successful song, and as a result you have mediocre artist thinking that their legends or geniuses when they're no where near legend or genius status.

Re: Iconic artist PRINCE Passes away at age 57!

Now the tabs are saying prince was taking the same stuff as mj ie i presume diprivan (didnt read the article) desperate times front page headlines using mj to get attention

'What Have You Done For Me Lately'.

Do you mind saying what country you are in? Just curious what country you feel he's not so popular in.

Hungary.

Generally I think he is most popular in the US. Then the UK. I don't think he is THAT popular in continental Europe and even less so in Eastern Europe.

Erm what? What evidence do you have that Janet was being nasty to MJ's kids?

This is about Prince, not Janet and the kids. And Prince was talking about Janet as an artist.
You can be a great talent. Not everyone is a genius automatically.

I didn't say my whole country is racist.

MJ is more universal than Prince and has more fans here, but racists all over the world hate both.

I am huge fan of Prince even though I do not like him as much as I like (love) MJ. I live in Dubai and work for one of the biggest law firms in the region. We have people from literary 100 nationalities. Not one single mention of Prince's death so far. Nothing from Europeans, Indians, Philippines or Arabs. How drastically different it was when MJ died. TVs hardly mentioned Prince death, and almost no comments on any of the articles written in Arabic or English. Dubai is really the mini-world, and if what I am experiencing here regarding his death has any indication, I would say he is not really known in most of the world. Maybe if they knew him, they would have liked him and mourned his death.

Yeah, overall Prince was huge but not quite as big as MJ, which isn't an insult to Prince at all because no solo artist in the history of music was/is as big as MJ.

Come to think of it most artist now strive for even half of the success MJ or Prince reached.

However, I don't think this needs to be turned into a MJ vs Prince thread.
Prince just passed away, so lets let him have his moment.

I also work for an international company with different European nationalities (Dutch, Belgian, French, German, Swiss, Austrian, Spanish and Italian) and I did hear a lot of people talking about it the next day. Some colleagues were singing Purple Rain, others were discussing the possible cause of death and how unexpected it was and such. One colleague hadn't checked the news and when he started his computer at work he exclaimed "OMG, Prince died!" and everyone was like "duh, how could you have missed that?" Most of my colleagues are in their 20s and 30s though, I think that makes a difference as well, perhaps even more so than geography.

Re: Iconic artist PRINCE Passes away at age 57!

Prince does make a personal appearance in this mini documentary, at the end. Although, to understand the end, you need to watch the beginning.

Judith has worked with both Michael and Prince and she should stand tall amongst her contemporaries!

When Prince died this week, music lovers immediately began comparing his unexpected death to Michael Jackson's.

The King of Pop died in his California home in 2009. Jackson was 50 -- seven years younger than Prince when he died Thursday.

Prince's death revived rumors the two pop icons had an unspoken rivalry. The hearsay was fueled when The Purple One famously spoke out about turning down the opportunity to be in Jackson's "Bad" music video.

"The first line of that song is 'Your butt is mine,'" Prince told comedian Chris Rock in an interview that aired on VH1 in 1997. "Now understand, who gon' sing that to whom? Because you sure ain't singing it to me and I sure ain't singing it to you."

Cassandra O'Neal, longtime keyboardist for Prince, said that in actuality the two didn't have beef. In fact, they admired each other.

"Michael was a definite influence and inspiration for Prince," she told ABC News. "They both respected each other and that's the cool thing."

"There was a place in [his] Paisley [Park residence] ... and there's a screen and nice big old couch and we would watch old clips of 'Soul Train' and he would talk about just the influences that he had," O'Neal recalled. "Michael and his brothers were definitely a part of that."

O'Neal said their relationship is something to be modeled.

"We as musicians can take so much from that. Nowadays with social media, it's so competitive," she added. "'I'm doing this and your not.' They didn't do this. The ones that really had it like that didn't do that to each other. They embraced each other and he really made it a point to let us know that."

But for O'Neal, who also served as a background singer during her seven-year tenure in Prince's band, there is no comparing the two.

"You can't compare. Not to me. Not to me. They were equally as powerful and relevant for the African-American music [scene]," she said. "Both of them."
