^^^No, it's all new to me. I haven't heard or read anything regarding this.

So, it wasn't race strategy...:( Why is it that sometimes Kimi seems just mediocre...??? :( I always want a flying Kimi!!!:cheeky:

Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari (12th, +1.286s):
"This morning things were not so bad, while in the afternoon I had a bit of a struggle to find the best settings on the car, which was not working as well as it had done at last week's test. We have to look at the data to understand why. Obviously, the order in the second session is not representative of the relative strengths in the field. But I am still reasonably confident and if we manage to find a good set-up, then we can fight for the top places."

Felipe Massa, Ferrari (8th, +0.954s):
"It was a big crash, but that's part of the game and I have had much worse accidents in my career. I didn't see any flags and I had approached the corner in the usual way and then I totally lost control of the car under braking. I tried to slow down, but the impact was still pretty violent. The most important thing is that we were able to fix the car and in the end we didn't lose that much time as it wasn't planned for me to do many laps in the morning. I want to thank all the lads for the work they did: they were fantastic and they didn't stop for a moment right up to the very end of the second session. We came to Silverstone with a good starting point after the tests we did here last week and I think we are going in the right direction. I am pleased with the balance of the car and its performance on both types of tyre we have here from Bridgestone."

Again a penalty for Kimi, but this time it isn't for being late but being too fast :D:

Oh, really??? I didn't know that. You are so lucky!!! Did you talk to him or just saw him? Or how and when did it happen? Sorry for the questions but I'm curious.:cheeky:

I heard on german TV today (RTL) that Ferrari plans on buying Vettel free for the next season?!
Did one of you guys hear/read something about that also in your countries or somewhere online?
Maybe it's just a rumor??? :dont_mention_it:

Silverstone loses GP to Donington

Donington Park will replace Silverstone as the British Grand Prix's host circuit from 2010.

"Following discussions with Formula One Management, the FIA can confirm that the British Grand Prix will be retained on the Formula One World Championship calendar," said an FIA statement.
"From 2010 the new home of the British Grand Prix will be Donington Park."
Donington Park said the circuit's co-owners Simon Gillett and Lee Gill had signed a 10-year agreement that included an investment of £100 million over a five-year period.
The surprise decision, while securing the future of the race in Britain, represents a huge blow for the Silverstone circuit owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club, whose contract to host the race expires at the end of next year.
The BRDC have advanced plans to redevelop the pits and paddock complex to bring the circuit in line with other more modern facilities but they needed the guarantee of a grand prix to proceed.
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has threatened repeatedly to remove the race from the Formula One calendar if Silverstone, which hosted the first championship grand prix in 1950, is not upgraded.
Privately-owned Donington, home of the British round of the MotoGP championship, hosted the European Formula One grand prix in 1993.
"Finally the uncertainty is over," Ecclestone said in the FIA statement handed out at the British Grand Prix. "A contract has been signed with Donington Park and the future of the British Grand Prix is now secure.
"We wanted a world class venue for Formula One in Britain, something that the teams and British F1 fans could be proud of," he added.
"The major development plans for Donington will give us exactly that. A venue that will put British motor sport back on the map.
"I am sorry that we could not have helped Silverstone to raise the money to carry out the circuit improvements and run Formula One," continued Ecclestone, who also took a sideswipe at the British government and the funding of the London 2012 Olympics.
"I believe that the government should have supported them (Silverstone) which would have cost probably less than .002 percent of the government's commitment for the Olympic Games," he said.
FIA president Max Mosley said he was delighted that the race's future had been secured.
"We understand that the development programme planned for Donington will achieve the very high standards we and FOM expect from a modern F1 circuit," he said. "Finally, British Formula One fans will get the Grand Prix venue they deserve."
The Donington circuit, near the East Midlands cities of Derby and Nottingham, will require considerable improvement of its outdated facilities with poor access roads plagued by severe congestion on race weekends.

AWESOME HEIKKIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so happy for him! :clapping::clapping::clapping:
I wish all the best for him for tomorrows's race.

Shame that Webber came and ruined a 1-2 to Finland :D
But 3rd place is OK for Kimi, I believe he can easily pass Webber in the beginning.

I'm happy for Heikki too, he deserved it! Very good job!!!

I hope there will be the first Finnish drivers' 1-2 on the podium in the history of F1. I wish the order would be 1. Kimi, 2. Heikki.

Watch these cute pics!!! The 2 Finnish guys!

kimiheikkipolego2.png
Heikki Kovalainen claimed his first Formula One pole position with a commanding performance at Silverstone.

The McLaren driver beat surprise qualifying star, Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber, to the top spot in British Grand Prix qualifying, while McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton only managed fourth on home ground behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Kovalainen, who scored the first pole of his car racing career at Silverstone in Formula Renault seven years ago, took provisional pole with his first Q3 run, and although that time was beaten by Webber, Raikkonen and Hamilton, the Finn responded with a 1:21.049 - reclaiming pole position by over half a second. Behind Kovalainen, the remarkable Webber beat Raikkonen to the outside front row spot, securing Red Bull's best ever qualifying position.

Kimi said: "Well done to Heikki for his first pole position." :) :)

I think that too, that Kimi can overtake Webber (if not in the first corners but during the first pit stops), though it's of course was a nice result of Mark. I so hope that Kimi has more fuel than those two men in front of him. Maybe he can overtake Heikki as well, if Heikki has less fuel and if Kimi can chase him well and has more fuel than Heikki. If there's nobody in front of him, there isn't any fastest driver than Kimi. I'm afraid of Hamilton though that he's next to Kimi on the grid. I hope that he won't crash into Kimi's car. It was enough at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Keep flying KIMI!!!!! :clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

Oh yeah, since Hamilton seems to become disposed to mistakes, everyone near him should be on guard - you never know who he's gonna hit next.

First of all, I'm happy for Barichello. He managed to get 3rd place after a long long time and he's just so sweet fuy that I'm very happy for him :) And to give him a tyres for rain condition seemed to come out as good strategy.
And so much I hate to admit it, this was an amazing performance from Hamilton. He didn't do any stupid mistakes and it was just pretty much perfect race from the first lap.
Also nice to see Heidfeld on the top 3.

But then.. Kimi. :(
Ok, in the championship he's now even with Massa and Hamilton so he didn't lose anything there but otherwise this race was a disappointment. I was so confident in teh beginning of the race but then - why oh why didn't they change Kimi's tyres in his first pit stop????
I don't really know what to say right now.

And Heikki..:no::no::no: I can't understand why he just can't have any good luck. Well it might be just because some lack of experience but still. *sigh*

And Massa - how many times did he spin? 20?

After all the condition in this race was awful. I didn't know should I cry or laugh when the cars slipped off the track one after another. The British weather is so unanticipated.
I'm impatiently waiting a normal race in normal conditions to come.

edit: when Sutil spinned out - it looked very dangerous he almost hit Bourdais who was coming behind him! Luckily nothing happened.

yes, I have seen this commercial. They show it in the Hungarian tv as well, with Hungarian voices, which is awful  They say in the end: Tested by Schumacher and Räikkönen. There is a making of about this commercial on Youtube, where Kimi laughs and says that he doesn't speak German though a lot of Finnish people do and he hopes that he doesn't sound completely stupid when he says those German words.

I'm so dissapointed of course.:( It's good that Kimi saved 5 points, but he could have been at least 2nd or 3rd. I don't think he could have overtaken Hamilton in wet conditions. It seems McLaren was better to handle in those conditions. When the track was about to dry Kimi was the best again. He set the fastest lap again, it was the 6th continuous occasion this season. Well done! :punk:

I don't really know what to say about the Ferrari team. Where are they when it comes to strategy???!!! It seems they need to have Jean Todt or Ross Brawn...:( Why they didn't change Kimi's tyres??????? Later it was decided I think to wait for the 30th lap to come but till then a lot of time lost... Was a nice overtake when he managed to overtake Alonso.

I think Kovalainen is not there yet to get a win. It wasn't about bad luck at all this time around. He had the opportunity.

Massa??? I think I have seen another race when he did almost the same. I try to search for it on youtube. I don't know what has happened to him because at Monte Carlo he was great in wet conditions.

Hamilton was great, so was Barrichello and Heidfeld. I was really happy for Barrichello.

I know that it makes no sense but if it had been a dry race, Kimi would have been the winner definitely! I was hoping that the track became dry and then Kimi would overtake Hamilton at the 2nd pit stops, but it never came because of that awful rain.

Now 3 pilots have 48 points. That's nice!

I can't wait what will Ferrari and Kimi and Massa tell about this race.

Interview with Kimi - he's wise and optimistic as always, I love you for this Kimi, and because you are the fastest driver in F1!!!!:yes:

Q. That looked a very difficult race?

Kimi Raikkonen: We only really made one mistake, which was to choose the wrong tyres. We didn't really expect it to start raining so at the first pit stop we kept the old tyres. So, until that point we had the speed and the car to win the race. But that mistake cost us unfortunately, but at least we scored some points. It wasn't as competitive as the car could have done, but it definitely could have been better.
Q. Did you suggest to the team to change the tyres?
KR: No, it was the team's decision. Everyone is involved with the team so we make the decisions together. Sometimes you get it right, but unfortunately today there was one of those times we didn't. It could have gone in any direction and we had a very good speed at that point. But at that point it started to rain and the tyres were pretty old already so there was nothing to do.
Q. The championship is now very close at the top. What do you expect from the second part of the season?
KR: The last four races haven't been easy for me especially. We haven't had one good race. The last race we had a good speed but unfortunately I had a problem with the car, so if you look after all those things not scoring in two races and not really having a perfect race in the next two, we are still tied in the championship lead so it is not too bad. I am pretty sure we have a car to win races, there are many races to go and we just need to push hard. I think once we get everything running smoothly we should be up there winning races.
Q. In the early stages of the race you were quicker than Hamilton. Was the Ferrari the best car on the track today, if you ignore the situation with the tyres?
KR: I always believe we had a good car. It is not that our car is suddenly bad. We made one bad decision with the tyres and it cost us a lot. We had a very good speed until that point and it was easy going. Unfortunately it was just bad luck.
Q. Now there are three drivers tied at the top of the championship, does this mark a fresh beginning for your title ambitions?
KR: Like I said before, the last four races haven't been easy. I had two non-finishes and okay, the last race we had a good speed but a small problem. Here we couldn't get it right, so we are still tied in the lead. It could have been much worse after those four races. We know we have a good speed but we just need to get the weekend going smoothly and things in order. There are many races to go. Even though it has been difficult in the last few races, I think we are in a good position and we have a good speed so we shouldn't get too worried about it.
Q. You mentioned the mistake with the tyres, but even on new intermediates the car wasn't quick. Why was that?
KR: I was just behind people. We fuelled the car until the end so we were pretty heavy on that point. Also with the rain I went off a few times, once at full speed after the bridge. I just got aquaplaning and luckily got back on the circuit, so I was pretty sure the car was not in the best shape any more. We got it back and it was difficult conditions, and I am sure with the same decision with the tyres we would have been okay and able to fight for the win. Sometimes it goes like this.
Q. Championship-wise are you annoyed, or relieved that it could have been worse?
KR: Like I said the last four races have not been exactly as we want. But we are still in the lead, so it could have been much more worse. I am not worried about it, I am sure we can get where we want. We just need to get it right at the next race and then we will go from there.
Q. Did you do a better job here than the team?
KR: No, we win and we lose as a team. Sometimes we make the wrong decision and we need to learn from those. I don't complain to the team and they don't complain to me. I could easily have said to choose other tyres or keep these tyres on, but it is teamwork and sometimes we cannot get it right. We just need to learn from that.
Q. When you showed you didn't have the pace of Hamilton after the pit stop, did you ask to change again like Alonso?
KR: No. In the end we expected the rain to stop quickly and when it didn't we decided to come in. We were losing too much time, but it is easy to say afterwards that we should have changed all the way back. First of all we didn't expect to have rain and then we only expected it to last a few minutes. In the end we got back to fourth place. It was a disappointing race, but we still got good points and are tied in the lead of the championship so we didn't lose anything.
Q. Can you describe for us the fight with Fernando Alonso at the end?
KR: It was nice. It is always nice to fight and it was important points for me, but I didn't want to risk too much. For Fernando he doesn't have anything to lose so he can take more risks. So I wanted to for sure get one extra point and in the end I got past him, so that was good.
Q. What happened at the start?
KR: I got a very good start and I was planning to go between Heikki and Mark, but Mark came on the left and I had nowhere to go. Hamilton got a good start from fourth place and went past everybody, and I really didn't have anywhere to go. I had good speed but had to back off.

Team Quotes
Kimi Raikkonen - 4th: "I am disappointed, but I am equally aware that things could have been much worse. We had the possibility to win the race but we made a mistake at the first pit stop, keeping the same set of tyres, because we expected the track conditions to improve. It was a joint decision: we are a team and we win or lose together. Things are not going too well for me at the moment, given all that happened in the last few races, but I am leading the championship, even if it is on equal terms with Felipe and Lewis. We know we have a great potential, but we have to put everything in place to get the most out of it."

Felipe Massa - 13th: "This Silverstone weekend is one to be wiped out. On Friday I had an accident, yesterday there was the problem in qualifying and today a series of mistakes at all levels. We have to look ahead, because there is still a very long way to go in the championship and once again, we've seen that it only takes one result to turn the situation around...

Stefano Domenicali: "A Sunday to forget as quickly as possible in terms of the result, although we must remember certain elements of this weekend, as there were mistakes made that we cannot afford to repeat. We could have won this race with Kimi but we made a key mistake at the first pit stop, choosing to stay on the same set of tyres. The rain did not ease off and lasted longer and our drivers - Felipe had also gone for the same choice - found themselves in difficulty. With hindsight it's easy to say we should have changed tyres, but Formula One is not an exact science: sometimes strategic choices pay off and sometimes they don't...

Pretty interesting season again with three drivers leading the championship with the same amount of points.

I've only observed Michael at an autograph thing in a shopping mall in Cologne once... wow must be like 10 years ago or something.
Didn't even talk to him but I liked to see and listen to how nice he was with the kids and adults around him.

Mechi, you have been a Ferrari supporter for many years... Tell me, what do you think about this years' Ferrari decisions? I think they make huge mistakes when it comes to strategy... I don't think they had made half as many mistakes in Schumacher era (when Ross Brawn or Jean Todt was there) as many mistakes they do this year.

Just look at the Monaco GP (Kimi's tyre problem cost him a drive through penalty) and Silverstone GP (Massa's car problem in qualifying and wrong tyres on Massa's and on Kimi's cars)... These costs them worthy points both in the drivers' and in the constructor's championships.:( + there are some reliability problems also: both cars' DNF in Australia, Kimi's exhaust problem in France...:(

They have to do perfect work from now on because McLaren and BMW come....

Kimi is Iceman or not??!! That is the question?! I don't know what to say to this really... It's possibly the worst "move" in his whole career, though in one side I could understand him. He's the one who doesn't like at all when people get too close to him. Especially when he's about to race, the adrenaline is up, he would like to concentrate and they don't let him prepare for the race.

Overall, it turns out that he's only human...

(at the Hungarian forum the girls was discussing this story and one of them said something which is quite funny: "He was like a boy from the kindergarten, if someone would steal his toy and he pushed the other over..."

You can see it with your own eyes and tell me what do you think about it:

Here are responses from his manager and Ferrari's spokesperson:

Kimi "move aside" Räikkönen :(
Angry Räikkönen pushes over photographer - Too close for comfort

Reigning World Champion Kimi Raikkonen was photographed and filmed pushing over a renowned Formula One photographer on the Silverstone grid prior to Sunday's British Grand Prix.

According to the Finnish television station MTV3, the Ferrari driver - taking off his helmet after driving to the grid - was infuriated when Frenchman Paul-Henri Cahier got too close before stepping on his equipment to take his photo.

"Photographers should respect the fact that Kimi is about to race and not get too close," Raikkonen's manager Steve Robertson reportedly said.

It is understood that Cahier does not intend to take any action against Raikkonen, 28.

LOL !
Sorry
But that just looks hilarious when the cameraman is on the ground legs heading to sky :D
I totally understand why Kimi did that, I would have probably done the same in that situation.

I've never thought about him doing such thing. He's so ice cool and calm.

It was funny because if I were Kimi I would have done this when Hamilton crashed into his car in Canada, but at this situation it is a bit ridiculous... Isn't it strange that this kind of situation brings the real angry Kimi (when it comes to protect his "personal" area) and at the other thing he didn't feel himself that angry or angry at all?

It needs always some time to build a new team! You need to find matching members (all specalists still able and willing for team-work!) and these members need to learn working together. It takes time.
But I also do think it's supposed to be this way.
F1 would get boring.
Well that's why I always loved Ferrari... when there's the right driver and chief etc. like the trio Ross Brawn, Jean Todt and Michael Schumacher who are willing to work and also to lead, to take responsibility... it's the perfect team... really standing together like a family.
I don't think it's only the car. It's the Ferrari spirit. But even they obviously need their time to build it new in the time of changes.
Enzo Ferrari was told to know every single person working for him by name and sometimes it's said he even knew the names of the workers wife and children etc.... that's what Michael Schumacher said in an interview when he that time signed at Ferrari, that he wanted to work like that.

Other teams do have (like McLaren/Mercedes, BMW) and did have (like Renault e.g.) wonderful cars also.
Yet no other team in F1 was ever able to present such a 'perfection' as a team.

^^^Thanks for this! :)

I try to hope that with their working methods, optimism and passion they will be the champions this year also (I mean Kimi and Ferrari:cheeky:).

I think Hamilton did 3 good days, because Ferrari had bad days. (Australia, Monaco and Silverstone) Other times he was not the best, he made mistakes, too.

Keke Rosberg said that the champions - like Kimi - won't win every race, on their good days, they will win races on their "bad" days they will score good points. That's what Kimi tries to do. France, Silverstone and Turkey (except Monaco of course, because there was Kimi's mistake, but there was also a team mistake) were not his good days still he got good, worthy points.

When Massa or Hamilton had bad days, they didn't score anything.

Ferrari boss calls for no more errors (He's right IMO!!!)

1215450210.jpg
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has urged his team and drivers to stop making "stupid" mistakes if they are to stay in contention for the world championship this season.
The team chose to leave Kimi Raikkonen on the same set of intermediate tyres at his first pit stop and then left him out on the old tyres so long that he fell out of contention for victory at Silverstone yesterday.
Raikkonen and Felipe Massa also had several spins each in the race, although Raikkonen did recover to finish fourth, but di Montezemolo says they all need to learn from their mistakes.
"I hope we'll manage to win our eighth title in ten years," he was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport. "We will (manage it) if we don't carry on doing stupid things.
"Obviously I wasn't pleased with what I saw yesterday, but I hope it's a useful lesson. Knowing my men, I'm certain it is."
He also says Ferrari have missed out on too many good results so far this season and can't afford to throw away any more in the remaining races.
"We're at the half way point of the season and in the lead of the championship," he added. "But we've lost too many opportunities, so in the second half of the season we must not lose any more."

Wow! It's really a beautiful, artistic pic! Though it came by an accident :D

That's actually very true!

Now I know this sounds so silly but always when I watch Kimi's driving I have so safe feeling, like nothing bad can happend, because he knows what he's doing and he does it right. Like I could trust my life for him

^^^yeah, he was really passionate... no wonder, that cameraman was silly

Btw, I haven't seen you in this thread before... Do you like F1? Which is your favorite team or favorite driver? If you like this sport then I'd like you to come here more often. :)

well, i like the Ferrari team but i don't have a favorite driver. i was a little fan of Michael Schumacher. but after he left the F1 i didn't watch so often the f1 races:cry:.
i watched the last race, it was wonderful. :clapping:

I guess that's happened to lots of people

You should start watching the races again, they're very exciting! You never know who's going to do well since there isn't one person dominating the field.

It's strange but I feel the same. Of course - because of his bad luck - I always cross my fingers for him, I don't want anything bad that could happen to him or his car.

I think nowadays he drives with brain and safely, when he was at McLaren (especially in 2005) I was thinking... he might be crazy, flat out all the time. Sometimes I miss that "fighting Kimi" but I think since he became a world champion he knows that he doesn't have to prove anything just drive carefully and wisely and wait patiently for the good results. What do you think?

I think Hamilton does almost the same like Kimi did in McLaren (with young heart and soul) but a bit dangerously and not in that nice style IMO.

I had a feeling that you might be a Schumi fan :)

As Hanna said you should watch the races because they are more interesting and exciting than ever IMO. I think you know that there are at least 4 drivers that could be world champion this year. 3 of them with equal points right now. That could not be more exciting. OK, if you don't have a favorite driver it isn't so interesting, but still great to watch.:cheeky:

Today the teams began their 3-days Hockenheim tests...

Poor weather continued to blight the Formula One teams on Tuesday when this week's pre-German Grand Prix test kicked off at Hockenheim.

With last weekend's British GP having been marred by poor weather, rain showers greeted the teams on Tuesday morning as they renewed their knowledge of Hockenheim ahead of next weekend's race.
The rain had stopped within the first hour however, allowing teams to begin their week's programmes on a drying track. All 10 teams are present at the test - with the opening day's drivers being Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari), Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber), Nelson Piquet (Renault), David Coulthard (Red Bull Racing), Nico Rosberg (Williams), Kamui Kobayashi (Toyota), Alex Wurz (Honda), Sebastien Bourdais (Scuderia Toro Rosso) and Adrian Sutil (Force India).
The results :(:

Räikkönen works on the set-up

There is no respite for the Formula 1 teams who, less than forty eight hours after the end of the British Grand Prix, were back in action at Hockenheim for the first of three days of testing.

Kimi Raikkonen took to the track today for Scuderia Ferrari. The reigning World Champion and, along with Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton, leader of the 2008 series, had a programme centred on set-up work in preparation for the German Grand Prix which takes place at this track on 20th July.

The Finn also evaluated new aerodynamic and mechanical components. The day's work was held up by rain which fell intermittently up to four in the afternoon.

Raikkonen completed a total of 63 laps, the quickest in a time of 1:15.803, making him the second-fastest driver of the session.

The Scuderia continues testing at this circuit tomorrow, with Raikkonen again on track.
