Hi guys,
Any news on BAD25 in the Netherlands?
Thanks,
Josed.

Amazon UK haven't even received any copies to ship, it's not that they've sold out.

Exactly.
They could have received 1 copy in stock and sold 5 copies. They would be out of stock and it doesn't mean it's selling well. In the US it sold only 5000 copies and still made its debut on the 'Hot Singles Chart' at #1, which is obviously good for a CD single so we must call it a success, but compared to the mainstream singles chart where the #1 song sold 296,000 copies (in it's 4th week at the top!) it kind of puts it into perspective.
As a CD single this charted well in the first week (especially thanks to MJ fans buying many copies each) but it will never be a particular success IMO when it can't chart on the main singles chart. It's a shallow victory really. Personally I would have preferred a new song to be released as a proper single or maybe a remixed MJ song released as a proper single and for it to achieve success similar to Elvis' Little Less Conversation. If that happened we could say the single did a good job. But as for this CD single it's a bit pointless IMO.

Oh Geezus...here comes the Elvis' Little Less Conversation comparison again.
You all cannot have it both ways.... Elvis' was re-worked... PEOPLE HAVE STATED THEY DO NOT WANT MJ'S SONGS TOUCHED BY OTHERS.
So the Elvis comparison is MOOT. Therefore the chances of having a huge single release is VERY UNLIKELY.
People need to stop acting all ADD and make up their damned minds. Do they want the estate to finish /re-arrange the songs or release them as MJ left them?
They need to let go of the dream of a huge single release...when the estate has its hands tied with 25+ years old song that cannot be touched up.
So be happy with that #1 single...
Haaaaaaa
Is their really a need to be so aggressive in your statements? Not everyone shares the same opinion as you, so deal with it rather than posting rude statements. Which you pretty much do on every single thread.
Hmmmm ..you might wanna re-read it again.
Clearly stated the opposite AND wasn't addressed to you, but if the shoe fits...
Oh wait, sorry

For Thriller25 they released that re-recorded version of WBSS with Akon as a proper single and it didn't do much on the charts. Radio only gave it minimal airplay too. There's no guarantee that a remix will be successful and like it was mentioned, the fans don't want anything touched, so when it comes to singles we shouldn't be getting our hopes high. I also would love nothing more than for MJ to have another #1 single (and get his record back from Katy Perry), but it's simply not realistic IMO.
Let's just hope the album will do well, similar to how Thriller25 performed. That would be a great success.
YES I KNOW THE ELVIS SONG WAS TOUCHED UP! That is my point. That is what I'm saying. IMO The MJ Estate needs to take that approach!
This is what annoys me. There is no such entity called 'The fans'. We are not one, and we don't all have the same opinion. I wish people would stop saying "the fans" want this or "the fans" want that. You're wrong.
I like the idea of remixes or reworked songs to impact on the singles chart properly. I see it as the best way to generate new MJ fans and prolong the longevity of the commercial viability of MJ's image. It seems we do agree on something at least. The chance of having a hit single with a 25 year old song that is untouched is zero. That is why I think they SHOULD rework some of MJ's material. That's why I brought up the subject of the Elvis track.
Again, there is no such thing as "the fans" so it is pointless to say "the fans want...". Do you realise how insignificant the people on these boards are? There are relatively few people visiting the boards and so deciding what "the fans" want is ludicrous. Somebody even had the arrogance to contact people like Spike Lee and the remixers to tell them how to do their job and to advise them on what "the fans" want. Those people do not speak for me.
I have been a fan since I was 8 years old. I'm 32 years old now. I DO want remixes and reworked tracks. Why? Because I want the MJ legacy to last for years to come. 30 or 40 years+ if possible. The only way to do that effectively is to bring something new to the table and to attract new fans. That is going to be almost IMPOSSIBLE by releasing demos and outtakes that only appeal to a small proportion of the existing fan base. That's right. This stuff doesn't appeal to non fans and it doesn't even appeal to all the people who consider themselves MJ fans. Many people love MJ but will not buy material they already own. They will not buy the same old album just because it includes demos. Sure they might stream it off YouTube for free but they ain't gonna buy it.
You have to give people a reason to get interested in MJ again and that is by doing something new.
The reason the WBSS '08 and TGIM '08 singles didn't do very well is because they weren't very good. It's as simple as that. IF they had appealed to the public as the Elvis track did they would have been successfull.
As I said in a previous post. If the Elvis track had been re-released as a demo it would have failed. If it had been re-released in its original form it would have failed. The Elvis estate reached out to the wider audience with a remix and it worked VERY WELL. It was probably the most successful product they had put out in years and years. I think the Elvis fans would have been incredibly short-sighted to complain about the success their guy was having with all the chart success, radio play, boom in merchandise sales and album sales.
If the MJ estate put out a similarly catchy and commercial single (which in 2012 can only be achieved with a remix or posthumously completed song) then MJ's legacy and longevity will be bolstered. "the fans" need to realise that this is a commercially driven business. If the estate are restricted by "the fans" short sightedness then they might as well just give up an go home. They made massive mistakes with 'Michael' and the songs they included but fingers crossed they don't limit themselves too much by "the fans".
However, I agree with your last point. I hope the BAD25 project is a success.
Elvis died in 1977. A Little Less Conversation (JXL remix) was released in 2002. That was 25th anniversary of his death. That remix was really great and that is very rare. Also promotion for that single was huge, great video + it was used for a 2002 World Cup advertising campaign, Nike commercial with some of the greatest footballers in the world. Lots of things coincided for that song to become #1 hit in UK and most of Europe, although it was only #50 hit in US.

If MJ Estate can do something like this, that would be great, but I doubt they will. We all know that they are very cheap when it comes to promotion.
If they released the posthumous songs completeed WITH the demos. there would be no probelm.
