BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For [General Discussion]

Regarding what exactly? Sorry I just didn't keep up. Spike Lee doc?

They didn`t say about what. MJJC and other forum`s only got a message from the Estate. There is coming a big news.
Maybe it will be the announcement of the Spike Lee-Docu. But it is just speculation.

Oh right  I remember this now. Thanks for reminder.

yep they just said an announcement is coming in a week. that means we'll get something either today - tomorrow or monday.

note: monday morning early eastern time is suitable for a press release.

Either way can't wait. Hope it's something cool. Hope footagewise :D

No it is clear the tracklist will come shortly before the release. Joe Vogel mentions this in his last article.

Joe Vogel had some errors in his book on MJ's music, so I don't think we should consider him any type of authority. Just because he writes positively about MJ doesn't mean everything he says is correct or true.

I hope they release Moonwalker BluRay in the US!

you can buy the UK / European version. It's a region free BluRay and it plays everywhere. I bought mine from HMV UK and it plays with no problems in USA.

Even when Michael was around he couldn't get most of his songs to #1. In his has last 2 decades he had only 2 #1 hits and 4 other top 10 hits. What does that mean? Getting a #1 single is very difficult and great songs don't necessarily make it to the top. What really matters is the overall sales, popularity and the longevity of the songs. Charts are nothing more than statistics. If you go by the Billboard Hot 100, Michael's greatest song was 'Say Say Say' :)

In this country Michael had his most successful run of singles ever during the last 15 years of his life.

Mabye there are some errors in the book. Everyone makes mistakes but he doesn`t say such things when it isn`t true. And of course he has some insider-knowledge.

This is from his article:

While the track list has not yet been finalized and will not be made public until closer to the September 18 release date, more than 20 new, unheard demos from the Bad sessions are currently being considered for the album. The songs being evaluated include a number of real gems and a few titles previously unknown to the most ardent Jackson aficionados.

A team of Jackson collaborators and caretakers—including estate heads, Sony VP John Doelp, producer Al Quaglieri (who oversaw the excellent 2004 box set, Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection) and recording engineer, Matt Forger—combed through the vaults to see what was viable for the Bad 25 release. The criteria used for identifying potential songs were simple: They had to be recorded during the Bad era (1985-1987), and they had to be developed enough to feel like a complete track.

Laughing out loud. Literally.

7. I Just Can't Stop Loving You (Russian version - Ya Prosto Ne Mogu Perestat' Lyubit' Tebya feat. Alla Pugachova and Red Army choir)

Stop!! In the name of love. You're killing me :'D

Wouldnt it be great if the announcement was that they had found the film of the concert?? *Prays*

Would be great if they had found the masters of the concert and there would also be a Blu-Ray release.

I seemed to have missed a lot. Too many RL issues :( Is there going to be another announcement soon?

Very interesting review of Paul Simon's Graceland Album 25th Annivrsery Box Set:

Also Sony product. Very similar idea, but a lot expensive than Bad 25. It includes 2CD + 2DVD. They could have included Spike Lee's documentary in deluxe version like they did it here. The quality of this product is amazing, I would love that Bad 25 will be like that, but I doubt it because it is only $45 and Paul Simon is $120. Interesting thing is that they had the same problem with the video quality like they have with Bad.

Not gonna lie. When I first saw this, I was like "---- Yeah!" but then I found out it was just made up. lol. Seriously, I hope they have a demo for the song Bad in the final release.

Yes, I know. I just received mine 2 days ago. I just want to walk into a Music Store here in the US (Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target) and see Moonwalker on the shelf every once in a while!

There are quite a few things getting a 25th Anniversary including Queen Live At Wembley 1986 for one

I understand you point. And believe it or not, my own opinion is a lot closer to yours than others here.

But I think if we want peace within the fan base and avoid the mess that came about in 2010, it's best not to touch the songs.

I disagree with you here...Statistically speaking, I think this board is a very good representation of MJ's fanbase. Even if the estate was to hire a firm to conduct a survey among fans, they wouldn't interview every single fan out there. They would work with a sample that best represents the group. And I think we have that here.

And you have to keep in mind, Elvis didn't create his music, others did it for him. So it is much easier for his fans & public to accept someone else playing / tweaking the work he left behind...whereas MJ had control over everything.

@Serendipity, let's be honest...the Thriller 25 remixes were not very good. MJ has better remixes on BOTDF than anything on the Thriller 25 album. Had MJ really put himself into that project, I think the result would have had a far bigger chart/sale impact.

^^I agree with you. Even though all fans are not one, the Estate needs an audience that they could target. They need to know the likes/dislikes of the audience in general and not that this particular fan likes/dislikes a particular thing. So it is all well for one fan to say I want remixes, but if the Estate sees that it's biggest audience wants something else, it makes no sense for them to do something completely contrary. Unless, as you say, they want another Michael situation, which can cause sales to decrease. As time passes, no doubt there will be some changes in how they present Michael's work, but since it is only a few years after his death, the best thing to do is to leave the bulk of his signature songs as is.

I hope as BAD gets closer, we see some super duper commercials out there, and not only in China.

Spike Lee has been tweeting about a 2 PM announcement / press conference today. Some think it might be the announcement Estate mentioned although it's not certain.
