Xscape General Discussion

In my opinion female singers have huge advantage in todays music. They take their clothes off in the video and they have a hit. It's a lot easier for them. That's why Rihanna and Katy Perry and now these 2 new girls have so much number 1 hits. It has nothing to do with music.

Katy Perry, Rihanna cloths off :jump:
Sorry I got side-tracked. I totally agree but I think it adds even more value to Michael's greatness, because he never had to sink to them levels

I didn't go yet but someone told me that there was a big poster on stand and the guy on the mixer was playing Slave to the rhythm too loud.

AT least you have the song being played in a story. I have yet to hear the song played in the stores that sell the album. I heard Michael's J5 songs being played on some sound system in the store, but nothing from the new album.

I went into Target today and saw three Xscape albums. Two deluxe and one standard. They were on the bottom of the new releases shelf, so I took them and put them on the top shelf right next to and in front of Coldplay's albums :)

Next single (not that singles matter much anymore anyway) should be APWNN and it should be a double A side with both versions.

Yes, I agree. I think both versions could be popular on radios. AC radios might lean more towards the original version, Top 40 radios may lean more towards the new version.

The title track should become a single at some point. It's too good to be ignored

I agree with APWNN should be next single out.

I've been listening Xscape 3 days straight, and I absolutely love it more and more :chillin: I love all the songs, especially original ones, but there is something in APWNN that I love tiny bit of more than others. Maybe I change my mind again tomorrow which is my favourite song, as it has happened many times already:giggle:

After a couple of weeks of listening, I think I rank them like this:

1. APWNN
2. STTR
3. Blue Gangsta
4. Xscape
5. Loving You
6. DYKWYCA
7. Chicago
8. LNFSG

Mostly prefer the new versions, except for APWNN where I love both the same.

Totally agree about APWNN being the next single. Like LA Reid said himself "If you want a hit, get Stargate". It really is the most radio-friendly track on Xscape. (Although I do think most of the songs are single-worthy).

My Rating at the Moment:

1. Chicago
2. Xscape
3. STTR
4. Loving You
5. APWNN
6. Do You Know Where Your Children Are
7. Blue Gangster
8. Love Never Felt So Good

^^I cannot believe your guys:(
You have LNFSG at the bottom of the list, and it defo should be somewhere near top:D

Because everyone is doing it

1. Do You Know Where Your Children Are (Original)
2. Xscape (2014 version)
3. Loving You (Original)
4. Chicago (Original)
5. Slave To The Rhythm (original)
6. A Place With No Name (2014 version)
7. Love Never Felt So Good (2014 MJ solo version)
8. Blue Gangster (Original and 2014 version)

In my opinion:
1) Slave To The Rhythm: Sounds so modern and am I the only one who likes Timbaland's ad-libs?!
2) Xscape: Those horns, those ad-libs.
3) Love Never Felt So Good: Feel good track both versions.
4) Loving You: Catchy and sweet.
5) Chicago: Good touch, powerful voice, not really the best of remixes though, still brilliant.
6) A Place With No Name: The remix is somewhat boring and repetitive, don't get me wrong, I still like it!
7) Blue Gangsta: Demo is slightly better, the chorus had strong potential, it just needed more oomph in the instrumental, bit repetitive.
8) DYKWYCA: Is it even Michael's style, is the remix even serious like the song's message? Still a good song but I had to point out some negatives to justify my point, I still like the songs, all of them!

I have a hard time making a list, because IMO it's such a balanced album. There are at least 3-4 songs that could easily be singles and there are songs which I personally adore, I'm just not sure how suitable they would be for today's radio. I mean Loving You which is probably my fave song on the album but I think the general public would rather need something uptempo.

LNFSG
Built around an excavated 1983 vocal demo and co-written by pop legend Paul Anka, the anchor of Jackson’s latest posthumous collection Xscape comes in three flavours: a pure, unadorned original demo, a string-studded disco rendition, and a bouncing duet with reigning pop prince Justin Timberlake. The arrangements vary, but Jackson’s incredible performance makes all of them float: swooping, swooning, simply joyous. -Jamieson Cox

Exactly! The lyrics are so dark and music don't fit at all in my opinion. Only part that I like in Timbo's version is the guitar in the end.

DYKWYCA is EASILY the worst track on that album. I absolutely love love love the 2010 version and the demo is alright, but Timbaland completely missed that one and I absolutely adore the rest of the album. I swear every moment in the day there's a song from the album either playing or in my head. Honestly I couldn't rate this album higher.

Yeah, I have to agree about the new version of DYKWYCA. That's the only song where I often feel like skipping. I love the demo though. I know many think the 2010 version is the best, but I think musically the demo is more interesting.

I love the guitar solo in the demo

Exactly, I said this before in the' Little tweaks you would make' thread.

I do like the remix but it's not a patch on 2010 version with its dirty, griding guitars that reflect the urgency of the song's message. Like I said there, the song's called 'Do You Know Where Your Children Are' not 'Do You Know Where Your Hamster is'.

It's the only new version on the album that sounds like a remix to me. Something I would have found on the CD maxi single rather than the album.

Still good just not great like the others.

Chris Evans played LNFSG on his radio 2 breakfast show this morning calling it the best song to be released in years... after confirming chart positions he went on to say that he couldn't believe it didn't make number 1 in the UK and urged people to go and download it! Xx

With today's brain dead generation I'm not surprised that it didn't make number 1
