Xscape General Discussion

It`s Prince Jacksons. He revined the video with the boy singing APWNN from another person.

Now I am confused. Didn't the poster say that it was not Prince? I see a little boy singing and other person driving.

Birchy I find it odd that you edit my post and wrote a reason after I had a disagreement with your theories in another thread. What is even more interesting is that you left the original post from the person who stated people were uneducated. This shows me that your editing was not a true evaluation. Moderation is a task that should be taken with care, and one should not put one's biases, vindictiveness into moderation.

I do know that we are not supposed to talk about moderation in the thread, but I am keeping an eye on your moderation of my posts.

You think moderators, read every post in every thread? There is not a massive team here. Thats what the report button is for. All I saw was you're post which I agreed with to an extent, but this board does not promote singling members out for their views, and creating a list of "negative" members, this would be classed in some aspects as bullying.

In regards to the original post in question, it was reported and dealt with. If you felt that post was inappropriate you should have reported it yourself, not to then use it a day later in hindsight over some argument about moderation. I will edit posts if they break the rules of this forum or if they encourage singling people out. Put whatever spin you like on that. This is not a discussion, its the rules.

Please continue the discussion, if anyone has problems with moderation, please PM Gaz or another staff member, ty

Love the original but I ADORE the updated version of Chicago. That song is a damn jam!! Had it on repeat about 20 times LOL. Kept turning the volume louder and louder each time. I will apologize to the neighbour the next time I see her :)

Also love, love APWNN. Vocally, Michael is really at his very best here.

Sooooooo many great things about this album. Stellar original versions, updated jams that are very sympathetically done.

So far, this is definitely the album of the year for me especially given the circumstances.

Just unbelievable really.

I don't know how these things affect sales, but I went to the Best Buy next to my house. There were no Xscapes on the shelf. The girl said the computer shows 10. I got a sales person and we looked through every shelf and there was none. He went to the back and opened up 2 boxes and found 10 standard versions in between other albums. He then had to scan them and put them on the shelves. Next, the computer shows there are 2 deluxe but there are none on the shelves and none in the back. I don't know if some MJ fans stole some albums, or the person who scanned the albums when people bought them, did not do it correctly. I ended up going to another store to get a copy for the Xscape Positive initiative.

My favourite song on the album is Chicago but I think A Place With No Name should be the 2nd single as it has most hit potential.

You know my favorite is Slave. I don't care which one of the songs are up next to be singles actually. The only think is summer is coming and people like up beat songs.

Its So nice to go to YouTube and see all the praise this album is getting and all the love Michael is getting. I see straight positive comments all the way down over, and over, and over, on Chicago
The general public seem so excited about Xscape too :

^^Aw it is so great to see all that love for Michael and Xsape, especially on uTube where millions of people visit.

I find that when I listen to the versions that Michael left and the newer ones that I don't see a big difference and I think for me that helps. Nothing was radical or changed so much. I felt Michael's presence strongly and I think the public are feeling that too. It's great to see people focusing on the music again.

Blue Gangsta seems to be a public favorite imo, everyone on twitter is talking about it more than any of the other songs!

At last Xscape has arrived to Egypt in Virgin Mega store they added it on the website http://www.virginmegastore.me/index.aspx?ID=3# ,if i'm able to buy about 10 copies to increase sales i would do as Petrarose did and maybe others.

Let us know how it is doing in Egypt. At least you were the first to have it there. I hope it gets lots of sales. Have you seen any promotion like posters?

MPMJ are they talking about the original BG or the contemporized one? I guess the thing with BG is that it has that sort of action/adventure aspect to it. As I was saying before it reminds me of a James Bond movie. Maybe they could get Craig to do a video of a man hunting down something or rescuing someone, and play BG in the background. I remember how Michael always liked to have the most current sports/entertainers in his videos, like Johnson, popular actors, etc. I wonder what his vision would be for a video of BG? I wish I could ask him.

Really? I can't think of a single teenage boy who hasn't played a video game with violence. It's really not that big of a deal, he's just being your typical teenager.

"A new study suggests that violent video games really can alter a child’s view of aggression.

The study, published today in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, surveyed the gaming habits of 3,034 children ages 8 to 17 in Singapore over a three-year period. The results suggest that violent video game play influences aggressive behavior by producing lasting changes in how a child views violence.

Video game violence expert Douglas A. Gentile, Ph.D., a developmental psychologist at Iowa State University, Ames, says his study also combats the popular belief that video game violence only affects people who are already highly aggressive. The new study also throws a wrench in the argument that girls are more immune to the aggressiveness displayed in video games.

“Because of the large number of youths and adults who play violent video games, improving our understanding of the effects is a significant research goal that has important implications for theory, public health, and intervention strategies designed to reduce negative effects or to enhance potential positive effects,” the study concluded."

(This link was posted above by Mechi--thanks, Mechi, for that info!!)

This study talks about the lack of empathy and the heightened aggression and normalization of violence that occurs. IMO this is not a good thing and I think that MJ would not be in favor of it-- he spoke out again and again in songs and interviews and his writing against war and violence. He spoke out FOR love and empathy. Empathy and compassion are very important in a society--the violence and disrespect for living things--for the earth--is not something that MJ would want.

The fact that these games are seen as 'normal' is not good IMO. (Was that 'uneducated' comment directed at me? Hope not.)

To get back to Xscape--I am now feeling the title song a lot as a single. I am also enjoying the song "Loving You."

I wish fans would stop putting everything those kids do under scrutiny.

You go on and on like Prince is going to turn into some homicidal maniac or something, stop sweating it. They haven't made Prince psycho or overly aggressive as far as we have seen. I've seen many recent studies that suggest that the influence of video games on violence is vastly overstated (which I agree with), and many studies saying it has somewhat of an influence. In all honesty, at the end of the day, if you're psycho enough to go on a violent rampage or something, you're going to do it regardless of video games.

Michael was for love and empathy, yes, but he clearly wasn't against violence in fiction. I say that judging by the fact he possessed many arcade games that featured violence (including his own video game Moonwalker where you can kick gangsters). Even in his various short films, Michael takes a tommy gun and blindly opens fire on multiple people in a nightclub, he shoots a man at point-blank range with a pistol, he knocks out the man in charge of the stage curtain or whatever, he provokes a barfight in which violence breaks out between multiple people (with him flipping, punching and kneeing multiple people), and even setting the entire bar on fire. I'm not against this stuff in the media, but it's not like Michael was ever completely innocent of featuring violence in his works too.

This really isn't the place to discuss such matters but damn, don't worry so much. Just let him be a normal kid. He'll be fine :p

After listening the album multiple times a day for 3 week and after letting it "simmer for a while" this is my list of favourites:

1. Chicago
2. Xscape
3. Slave To The Rhythm
4. A Place With No Name
5. Love Never Felt So Good (Timbaland's version)
6. Loving You
7. Do You Know Where Your Children Are
8. Blue Gangsta

Video games? My favorite game is Devil May Cry… 3,4 and 5.

And I’m very peaceful and kind person, I think. LOL.

I am really unsure about which song should be the next single to help promote the album.

I really love Chicago but not sure that it would appeal to the general public, especially outside of the US. I definitely think it would do well on urban R/B radio but it could struggle to get airplay on other formats.

APWNN might appeal to a wider audience but may not be as appreciated as much by younger audiences, especially in the urban market.

Perhaps the solution is either STTR or Xscape? I think both of these songs could appeal to the general public across many radio formats both within and outside of the US.

It is very difficult to know which songs will become hits in today's market. For example, although I like the song 'Happy', I am a bit surprised by how well it was received around the world even with the movie tie-in. I guess it came at the right place and time for the listening/buying public.

Hopefully, at least one of the remaining unreleased songs on this album will catch fire. Time will tell

I think the Estate should wait atleast 2-4 more weeks,
LNFSG was just released as a physical single,
i think it wouldn't be necessary to release another single at the moment.

But if they do,
I'd like to see Xscape as
2nd single, and Slave as promo-cd for the Xperia-Phone.
Also, It would be great, if they release the instrumental versions of these songs.

I didn't go yet but someone told me that there was a big poster on stand and the guy on the mixer was playing Slave to the rhythm too loud.

Update: New ad for Xscape on British TV, includes a Radio 1 presenter saying the words Xscape and other things that I can't remember, it featured Love Never Felt So Good and Slave To The Rhythm.

I think Chicago can do pretty well as a single. I don't think it's anywhere near being "too urban", and nowadays that doesn't matter much anyway, as if it's something people like, people are going to like it, regardless of the genre of the song, and it'll be huge. I don't assume Michael would be any different. Chicago has a lot of hit potential.

yes, I also think chicago should definitely be a single. the song is really good and i think the general public would really catch on to it. If the public can like that new song "problem" (forgot the artist name) so much. then I think chicago would be a hit.

To be honest when I see what is popular today on the charts I cannot tell what would be popular with the general public. To me "Fancy" and "Problem" and the like sound like a bunch of crap. It's like people lost their hearing these days or something. LOL.

In my opinion female singers have huge advantage in todays music. They take their clothes off in the video and they have a hit. It's a lot easier for them. That's why Rihanna and Katy Perry and now these 2 new girls have so much number 1 hits. It has nothing to do with music.
