Michael Jackson Brand Damaged by Poor Sales of New CD and Books

Considering all the people who write to me screaming about how they love Michael Jackson, etcetera, etcetera, here’s a question: where are you?

Jackson’s much touted CD of new, unreleased, and reconfigured material has been a bust. Forget proclamations that it’s “number 1 in 50 countries” or other such nonsense. In the United States, after four weeks of sales, “XScape” has sold just 286,000 copies.

That’s it, and it’s around number 25 on the album charts. It’s not coming back, either. “Xscape” had one
marketing
ploy and it’s over. That was the dancing “hologram” on the Billboard Music Awards.

Meantime, two new books about Jackson, pegged to the fifth anniversary of his death on June 25th, are also flops. “Michael Jackson Inc” by Zach O’Malley Greenburg, has done the worst. It’s ranked around number 16,000– sixteen thousand– on amazon.com. That’s pretty much no sales.

“Remember the Time,” an interesting memoir by two former Jackson bodyguards, has done a little better. Deservedly so. That book is up around number 1,320, which means it’s had some sales, good worth of mouth and online reviews. But it’s no best seller.

Maybe the authors of the books are waiting for the death anniversary to do some publicity. I think they should get going now. Those books are not going to revive themselves. Like the CD, they simply haven’t caught on.

The CD, of course, was a bad idea. Remixing and fiddling with Jackson’s unreleased music was a kind of heresy. It served no purpose. Just releasing the demos as they were would have been plenty.

As it is, many good unreleased songs were thrown out because they’d already been included in the “Bad” 25th anniversary album. There isn’t that much left now in the vaults. Sony would be wise to issue a series of live CDs from concerts.

What do people want of Michael Jackson? The hits, the ones they love, and have ties to. “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” already outlasting the “new” stuff.

Meantime, TMZ has a LOL story about Jackson’s ex-wife and her purported engagement to gay pornographer Marc Schaffel. Apparently, he has a wife. Only on TMZ, my friends, only on TMZ.

LOL! Poor Roger. I feel sorry for this poor excuse of a "man".

Roger Friedbrain is like a scorned lover. He is totally obsessed with Michael. He always has been and always will be. Friedbrain can't get over the fact that Michael never acknowledged him at all and he can never forgive Michael for that. On Friedbrain's dying bed, he will be saying Michael's name with his last breath. RF is emabarrassingly desperate.

Sorry to be ott and rude, but Roger is like Demon Dimond, both of the get their panties wet when they talk about MJ.

No. Accusing MJ of child molestation is worse than anything. Sure RF had his share there too (eg. the whole Schaffel case in 2006) but not as much as Dimond.

She is a demon, pure evil, she really believes in that bullcrap she is selling. Roger on the other hand knows how great Michael is but his hate towards him overshadows that, he lies deliberately for money. That's why I say he is worse. But they are the same.

It's interesting that while Xscape continues to slip on the sales charts, it is STILL the #2 most ILLEGALLY downloaded album in the world, according to thepiratebay website: http://thepiratebay.se/top/101 Now here's where it really gets interesting: Xscape has held this position STEADILY for over three weeks, while in the meantime dipping from #2 to #7 to #12 on Billbaord. That has been pretty much a consistent pattern on all of the world charts, but on a chart that calculates official illegal downloads, it has not budged from the #2 position for weeks. Which means there has to be a sh**load of people all over the world downloading this album. Now just imagine if all those illegal downloads had transferred to legitimate sales. Xscape has certainly done well, but it's sad to look at this chart and realize that Michael could be SLAYING those charts that count right now, rather than the ones that don't. Just something to think about.

Very good news! Keep requesting on radio! The more people here this song, the more they will request it. The more people who here the song, the more likely they will buy the song/album and stream the video. Just heard it for the first time on a hits only radio station in Belgium. This song could be a grower. Don't give up yet!

Very good news! This is a strong hold relative to last week's sales. It definitely seems that this album has good legs even before the next single s released. If the promo/video are good, it could definitely push it " over the top" and ensure weeks of solid sales.
