The Legend Lives On - Official Cirque du Soleil 'Immortal World Tour' Discussion

So, the swans that perform "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" are in Moscow?
Someone said they were removed from the show. If so, I'm so glad they have returned.

So they are still in the UK? I was wondering where the show was now. It gives me such a great feeling to see the success of this show.

They are back here only for two dates in late March in Birmingham & Manchester. I'll be sad when it leaves here for good :(

Taipei, Jan. 27 (CNA) A theatrical production that combines the music of late singer Michael Jackson with the acrobatic moves of Cirque du Soleil will be staged in Taipei in June, offering fans a new sensory experience, the organizers said Sunday.

The 105-minute show, produced by the Canadian entertainment company Cirque du Soleil, uses more than 40 songs by the "King of Pop," as well as his visuals and dance moves, according to the United Daily News Group, which organized the event in Taipei.

"We hope audiences will be able to experience the charm of the legendary singer at the show," said Zoya Chou, a member of the organizing team.

Tara Young, artistic director of Cirque du Soleil, and dancer Mansour Abdessadok will arrive in Taiwan on Jan. 29 to promote the show, the news group said.

The production "Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour," which was launched in 2011, will be held at Taipei Arena from June 28-30.

It was the highest grossing performance tour in the United States in 2011.

Amen!!!!!!!!!! It does so with quality, dignity, & hard work, traits Michael was all about. We do not want any sloppy shows representing Michael.

I'm going to the show next month in Amsterdam and I wonder what is the duration of the show? Ticket says it starts on 20:00 and the last strain home goes on 0:33. Now I don't think the show will last 4 hours but I never been to a show from cirque du soleil so what's average duration?

And a few weeks ago they also added an extra show here in The Netherlands too.. I ordered my tickets before christmas and most of it was already sold out.. well the ticket category I wanted.

I went to the opening night at the 02 back in October, it lasted about 2hrs :)

God I would love to go and see it again, I really hope I get the chance to. Closest thing to Michaels spirit we could feel at a live show

I just bought tickets!! When are you going& where will you be seated??

I visited Belgium yesterday. I missed You Are Not Alone (was that because of the copyright issue overthere with the track???) And I also miss that "tree thing" which can be seen in the teaser. I also thought there was more cirque in stead of dancing on the floor. After all, I really enjoyed the show, but not worth to watch it another time for those € 80,00. I hope it will be on DVD / Bluray one day. Off coruse there are great things in the show which I will not tell about for all who has to go.

^ And just got back! It was pretty cool! I loved TDCAU, WYBT and BJ most..I did saw they had a J5 medley thing elswhere? They didn't do that one tonight though.

As much as I loved it, it's not one of those shows where I'd say I would go there again..While I'm def a person who likes shows parks etc. I don't know if it was because of the stage that they didn't get to do lots of stunts, or it was like this at other shows too.

edit; I'm glad that my fave songs were played, thank God!:D

I'm going to be seeing the show tonight. Mixed emotions, but overall excited and prepared for an amazing tribute  :flowers:

I saw the show in Amsterdam last night and came away rather disappointed unfortunately. Me and my friend (fellow MJ fan) had never seen a Cirque show before, but we both do like acrobatic shows. Most importantly, with a band consisting of Greg Phillinganes and Jonathan Moffett, and this show being marketed as a rock concert meets Cirque du Soleil act, we thought we would enjoy the music in any case.

I just was not impressed. Bar a few songs (Beat It, TDCAU, IJCSLY, WYBT, I'll Be There) the music never got a chance to shine, either because it was interrupted by yet another sound effect, or because it was remixed in a way I really did not enjoy. The acrobatics were not that special to me, nor was the dance choreography. Most of it just came across to me as rather chaotic - a lot of stuff going on, but none of it really being all that special. I did enjoy the songs that did not have so many people dancing around at once, like IJCSLY.

I read here that many people feel like the show captured MJ's 'spirit' but it really did not feel like that to me (apart from I'll Be There and Will You Be There). Overall, this really seemed like a Cirque du Soleil show with Michael Jackson music, rather than a Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil show. This was also reflected in the kind of people that attended. Most of the people around me were Cirque fans who also happened to enjoy Michael's music, or just people who thought it would be a fun night out. I know that that is a good sign for business, but I think these people could also have been attracted by a show that was focused more on Michael and his work, which might have made them more interested in MJ in the long term.

In any case, I do not mean to be negative and I certainly do not want to discourage anyone who is looking forward to going, but I do want to give my honest opinion. Most people here do seem to enjoy the show a lot, so perhaps it is just me.

^ agree. I can't recall who said that it may had to do with the stage so that may be a reason why they couldn't do alot of stunts. The most chaotic part was that one of Dancing Machine, they were everywhere and I didn't know where to look. Also, I had a small chat with a girl who works at Ziggo Dome, she told me she've seen CDS shows before and that if you get to sit at the side of the stage, or just far from it, they try to make it enjoyable for everyone. I didn't get to see alot of things, and the dancers also were mainly focusing on the front audience, to my disappointment.

Cirque Du Soleil pays tribute to Michael Jackson

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News

The famous show of Cirque Du Soleil ‘Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour’ starts today at Istanbul’s Ülker Sports Arena. The show will continue for two days

The three-day visual extravaganza “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” by Cirque Du Soleil starts today in Istanbul’s Ülker Arena and will continue through March 16 and 17 with five shows.

The unique performances of Cirque du Soleil have attracted a wide audience in Turkey, Anatolia news agency reported Pozitif Live Vice General Manager Orçun Ejder as saying at a press conference for the event held March 13 at the Edition Hotel in Istanbul. Ejder cited this reason for bringing the group back to Turkey.

“The show brings Jackson’s perfectionist approach and Cirque du Soleil dancers’ entertainment,” Art Director Tara Young said, “We are proud of our show. If Jackson could see this show, he would be very proud as well.”

Young said there are 49 artists in the show from 17 different countries as well as more than 30 musicians that worked with Jackson for more than 5 years. “This makes our show authentic. There is only one Michael Jackson in the world and we are not trying to imitate him, we aim to keep his memory alive,” she added.

Noting that they meticulously auditioned artists, acrobats and singers from around the world, Young said they made very careful choices. “For Michael Jackson’s memory we have gathered the best dancers from the world.”

According to Young, the program underscores Jackson’s global messages of hope, love and peace. A fusion of visuals, dance, music and fantasy that immerses audiences in Jackson’s creative world, the show unfolds his artistry before the eyes of the audience. Aimed at lifelong fans as well as those experiencing Jackson’s creative genius for the first time, the show captures the essence, soul and inspiration of the king of pop, celebrating a legacy that continues to transcend generations.

“The Immortal World Tour” takes place in a realm where the audience discovers Jackson’s inspiration and the wellspring of his creativity. The secrets of Jackson’s inner world are unlocked through his love of music and dance. World-famous performance group Cirque du Soleil was created in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberte and Daniel Gauthier. Initially named Les Echassiers, they toured Quebec in 1980 as a performing troupe. Its theatrical, character-driven approach and the absence of performing animals helped define Cirque du Soleil as the contemporary circus that it remains today.

Each show is a synthesis of circus styles from around the world, with its own central theme and storyline. The company draws the audience into the performance through continuous live music, with performers rather than stagehands changing the props.

From circus shows to world stars

The Cirque du Soleil expanded rapidly through the 1990s and 2000s, going from one show to 19 shows in over 271 cities on every continent except Africa and Antarctica. The shows employ approximately 4,000 people from over 40 countries.

Cirque du Soleil’s creations have received numerous prizes and distinctions, including a Bambi Award in 1997, a Rose d’Or in 1989, the Drama Desk Awards in 1991 and 1998, three Gemini Awards,
four Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Previously, Cirque Du Soleil visited Turkey with their show “Alegria” and their longest-run program, “Saltimbanco.”

One of the dancers came up to my sister(I was standing at the stand with merchandise at the other side) and asked her if she was turkish he said they wanted to learn a few words and if she had any places that they should go to:lol:just thought I'd share this moment:p

I have tickets for this in Manchester next week cant wait to see it.

Saw the show last night in Birmingham, was pretty much as I expected, although it wasn't up to the standards of a Cirque Du Soleil show, it was more of a celebration of Michael's dance and music. The real highlight for me though was to see Jonathan Moffett, Greg Phillinganes, Jon Clark in action, gave me goosebumps when they performed Smooth Criminal and This Place Hotel, could just of imagined Michael up there on stage performing with them, was very emotional at times.

Went to the show last night, it was amazing. In the intermission my husband was in line with one of the singers waiting for the bathroom.
Loved how in the intermission some of the dancers came out and picking out people from the audience to teach them moves, they were even teaching an old man to moonwalk at one point.
Would deffinately go again if I get the chance.

AEG China announced today that the blockbuster show Michael Jackson
“THE IMMORTAL World Tour” will come to Shanghai and Hong Kong in August 2013.

The event’s promoter posted a short message on their micro blog, saying: “The globally acclaimed Michael Jackson “THE IMMORTAL World Tour” will land on China! The show is produced by Cirque du Soleil, and is a riveting fusion of 3D visuals, dance, music, and fantasy and will take you into the story of the greatest entertainer of the 20th century.”

AEG said that there will be five shows in Shanghai from August 15-18, and then the tour will land in Hong Kong to perform August 22-25. The promoter didn’t elaborate as to when tickets will go on sale, but rumors point to early May.

Coincidentally, AEG also promoted Jackson’s “This Is It” concert in London in 2009, but the singer died days before the show. AEG is now being sued by Jackson’s mother Katherine Jackson and his three children in a wrongful death civil suit, alleging that AEG negligently hired and managed Dr. Conrad Murray, who administered the dose of propofol that killed the singer.

Jackson’s “THE IMMORTAL World Tour” was written and directed by Jamie King, who has previously worked with Britney Spears, Madonna and Rihanna. The Tour just finished its European leg and will soon head to Asia, starting from Japan in May.

“THE IMMORTAL World Tour” has so far generated US$270 million box office worldwide and was the second highest grossing tour of 2012 in the U.S., just behind Madonna’s “MDNA Tour,” according to Pollstar.

The new Michael Jackson resident show “ONE,” also produced by Cirque du Soleil, will open in June 2013 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour soars to No. 1 on the weekly Hot Tours tally with ticket sales revenue reported from arenas in eight European cities. Combined grosses from 31 performances of the Cirque du Soleil touring production totaled $19.4 million with multiple concerts at each venue. The most shows were held at the 17,000-seat Bercy arena in Paris (April 2-7) with a total of eight performances. The sold ticket count topped 58,000 from all eight shows in Paris. Since the Immortal tour began in 2011, two million fans of the late King of Pop have seen the show, producing a revenue total that nears the $212 million mark.
Luis Miguel takes the No. 2 slot among the top-grossing tours of the week with $9.6 million in box office grosses from 16 concerts at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. The first concert was held on Jan. 31, followed by ten performances in February and five more in March. His run of multiple concerts at the Mexico City concert venue during the early months of the year continues a tradition for the Latin pop singer. He last appeared there in 2011 when he played 20 shows during February and March, grossing over $10 million. Based on box office totals reported to Billboard, he has performed multiple-show runs at the Mexican capital city’s national auditorium seven times since 2000.
No. 3 this week is country star Jason Aldean who earns his first Hot Tours ranking since launching the Night Train Tour on February 21 in Bossier City, La. From the tour’s first ten concerts reported during the past week, the sold ticket count is 143,919 with grosses topping $8.4 million. Among the venues included in this week’s report is the first stadium date on the Georgia native’s 2013 tour schedule. His concert on April 13 was held at Sanford Stadium on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens. The sold out event drew a crowd of 60,968 and also featured fellow country singers Luke Bryan and Jake Owen on the bill.
Ranking fourth this week is the Killers with three concerts grossing $5.7 million reported from the Battle Born World Tour that supports the rock band’s most recent album release. The first concert occurred on March 4 at Hamburg’s O2 World arena, part of the European leg of the tour that ran during February and March. Also included are two concerts in Mexican venues that wrapped a Latin American trek that kicked off in late March and ran through April 13. The Las Vegas-based rockers will launch a North American leg of the tour on April 27 at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
