In one scene there are people light up in dark to play stars on sky. However the lights on two people at front didn' t light up. You can see them go up and down in shadow for the whole song. At beginning we all thought there are surprise going to happened later, but there wasn't. lol
 
Just wondering, can you see clearly if you're at level 1, row 4?

I expect as the show continues all the small technical errors like lights in some hearts not staying on, will be dealt with.

What did you guys think of the person with one leg in the childhood piece? I was deeply moved by that and thought Michael would have really appreciated the significance of it!!

About the seating, the thing is that a Cirque show has many things happening at the same time, unlike a traditional Broadway show, for example. They need to put the expensive seats directly in front of the runway/ramp that is attached to the stage. In that way the viewer can see the whole stage and runway/ramp. I mentioned this in my feedback to ticketmaster. However, the show is fantastic, and I found the level of the sound to be OK for a live concert.

I saw the show in Vegas and had seats in the VIP area, and had to move my head behind other people heads to see what was happening at the front of the ramp. We were at the side of the sage rather than in front of it, and these seats cost over $200. As someone said above, the next time I buy tickets, I will get seats at a higher level to see more of the actions that I did not get to see.

On the surface, MGM&#8217;s Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas seems fit for a king. Designed by famed architect Cesar Pelli, the gleaming, glassy complex is one of the newest on the strip, boasting 4,000 guest rooms, 16 restaurants, 10 bars, a full-service salon, barbershop, fitness center and spa, as well as a specially-designed 1,800-seat theater devoted to Cirque du Soleil&#8217;s show, Viva Elvis.
The show was meant to be a major anchor for the Aria. But on a recent visit to Vegas, the grand halls hosted only a trickle of tourists, its floors populated by a patchwork of gamblers. Days later, MGM officially asked Cirque to shutter sparsely-attended Viva Elvis by the end of 2012.
&#8220;The Elvis show never seemed to resonate here,&#8221; says Jonathan Shecter, a Las Vegas music and talent programmer. &#8220;[And] because this property was a bust, Elvis &#8230; couldn&#8217;t sustain itself. There wasn&#8217;t enough business here to support it.&#8221;

Meanwhile, the fortunes of another king are on the rise in Sin City. The Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour parked itself at the Mandalay Bay Events Center for the bulk of December. The show, a joint venture between Cirque du Soleil and the Jackson estate, was accompanied by the Michael Jackson Fan Fest&#8212;an exhibition featuring the some of the superstar&#8217;s most notable accoutrements, including his sequined white glove, his military-inspired jackets and a &#8220;Smooth Criminal&#8221;-inspired saloon.

From taxi-tops sporting Immortal&#8217;s logo to hotel keycards emblazoned with Jackson&#8217;s image, the show was both unavoidable and massively successful, bringing in an average of about $2 million per night in Vegas. During the second week of December, that sum was half a million dollars more than the next highest-earning live show, Taylor Swift&#8217;s tour, according to concert data provider Pollstar.
The fact that Immortal managed to either sell out or nearly fill the 8,500-seat Mandalay Bay Events Center every night&#8212;while Viva Elvis struggled to attract crowds a quarter that size&#8212;speaks volumes to the shifting fortunes of The King of Rock and Roll and The King of Pop. Michael Jackson&#8217;s estate has raked in over $400 million over the past two years; Elvis&#8217;s has taken in just over $100 million.
To be sure, there have been a few factors working against Elvis and his Cirque show. The Aria and its theater were built as centerpieces of a development called CityCenter, a 76-acre project created as a joint venture between MGM and Dubai World that opened during the worst days of the recession in 2009 and never emerged as the high-end destination it was supposed to be.
&#8220;It was one of the last high rise projects built,&#8221; says Las Vegas real estate broker Bruce Hiatt. &#8220;Prices were high when CityCenter began sales while the real estate bubble burst. That put CityCenter in a tough position to be successful with buyers running for the exits across the USA.&#8221;

Billyworld thanks for that wonderful report. I wonder if the Elvis estate tried to bring his music to a younger generation as Michael's estate is doing, or if they relied mainly on the original fan base? I think that it is very important to attract younger fans so that the legacy continues more into the future. We can certainly see Michael's estate reaching out to the youth with the video game, for example. Let's get ready to buy the first night tickets for the 2013 show, because I am expecting they will have a pre-sale for fans as they did before.

The author mentions the small number of people buying tickets for Elvis and the reason, but while I was in Vegas I met Elvis fans who said there was something lacking in it and they did not really enjoy it. Some of these fans were Michael Jackson fans as well. Further, cab drivers told me they heard from tourists in their cabs that the show was not very good. If people are telling others they were not very excited by the show, I am not surprised sales have dwindled. One particular cab driver asked me about the Immortal show, because he wanted to see if he should buy tickets. Of course I praised the show, which I really enjoyed.
 
The shows did well in Vegas overall? Michael appeals to everybody of all ages and is a global star. People from around the world would want to see the show. I am not putting down Elvis (my sister is a fan) but it's just different. I never saw the Elvis show so I don't know. I would love to see Immortal again.

I think it's quite good even though I can still see empty seat in the most pricy place (well 200 might be a little to much for non-fans). I think it's around 80-90% full (consider it's arena seating). The reaction of the show I went is fantastic. People cheer for MJ a lot. The most touching part is when they showed the quote of MJ on screen and the stadium is applause for that. It's really make me wanting to cry.

Great article.

Elvis was and always will be a cultural icon, but to be honest I don't hear Elvis's music played on the radio, for example. I don't think it appeals to younger generations much and I don't think he has many fans apart from people who were young at his time and grew up with him. But the strength of Michael's music always has been that he was always able to appeal to younger generations. I mean, just look at the demographics of this board! Mainly people in there teens or twenties, certainly not just people in their 40s-50s who were young when Michael was young.
 
The hotel I was staying at ' The Mandalay Bay ' had gone MJ crazy, they had MJ videos and music on in the elevators, on the room cards, and instead of the 'Do not disturb' thingies you normally get in hotels to hang outside your door it said 'Leave me alone' with an MJ silhouette. That isn't all, there were huge walls taken up by MJ images, I went upto the penthouse lounge on the 64th floor and they were playing butterflies, there was an MJ magazine in every room as well as an MJ pop up thing. I booked this hotel before I even knew about immortal, it was a nice surprise. I can post the photos of the MJ stuff at the hotel if you guys like?

That's the hotel I stayed at too! (December 9th and 10th). Aww I wish I had known about the penthouse lounge :( but I loved how pictures of Michael were everywhere. I managed to take home the magazine, doorhanger, and one of the room cards (i would have taken one of those large silouette signs on the walls/columns if they weren't glued on lol)

I'd love to see some pictures of the lounge if you have any.

I'm trying to buy tickets to the cirque show in NY in April but ticketmaster is all out of tickets. I see a lot of other sites that are selling tickets but I don't know if they're reliable or not. As i'm flying in to the u.s especially for this show I want to be sure. Does anyone know a good site I can buy ticktes from?

Cirque du Soleil's 'Immortal' aims to re-create Michael Jackson's magic

LAS VEGAS -- The King of Pop has been reincarnated in Cirque du Soleil's latest mind-bending spectacle "The Immortal," which moonwalks into the Bay Area this week.


The legend of Michael Jackson is reborn in this beyond-glitzy two-hour megamix of pop anthems, gravity-defying acrobatics and high-flash special effects. From Jackson's pet chimp Bubbles to the gates of Neverland, the iconography of the pop star is traced in an explosion of eye candy that careens from the dreamy to the bizarre. Did we mention the mime, the scantily clad cellist or the pole dancer? At the center of the outrageousness is Jackson's voice, beckoning from beyond the grave as images of his classic music videos, from "Thriller" to "Beat It," dance before our eyes on massive LED screens.


"We wanted to get inside of Michael's head and experience the world through his eyes," says writer-director Jamie King, who was keenly aware that since the show's star is no longer with us, his presence had to be channeled in every way possible. "We want the fans to feel connected to him, to feel his presence onstage."


The French Canadian entertainment empire has long had an affinity for pop music gods. Of the eight Cirque extravaganzas playing in Vegas today, two spin around rock stars. There's the Elvis show "Viva Elvis" and the Beatles mashup "Love" in addition to "Immortal," which holds court Friday through Sunday at San Jose's HP Pavilion and Tuesday and Wednesday at Oakland's Oracle Arena.


For the record, Jackson was a huge Cirque fan, which is one reason members of the Jackson family have embraced the production as a sort of arena-style memorial to their fallen family member.


"It brings back memories," says bowler-clad Tito Jackson, who attended the show's Las Vegas premiere amid a buzzing hive of paparazzi, fans and Jacko impersonators.


""‰Gone Too Soon' always makes me tear up," agrees brother Jackie sadly. "He was gone too soon."


The exuberant King first met Jackson when he was a young dancer cutting his teeth on the 1992 Dangerous tour. He went on to become a big-name director on the rock concert circuit working with celebs such as Rihanna and Madonna. He says that he has been inspired by the King of Pop ever since.


"How did Michael Jackson influence show business? What didn't he influence? He changed everything," King says. "Everyone I know has been influenced by Michael Jackson in some way, shape or form. A lot of people, not only me, do what we do, we perform, we create because of Michael."


From the advent of music videos to the marriage of fashion and pop music, Jackson was indeed a groundbreaker.


"You see Michael's influence everywhere," says costume designer Zaldy Goco, standing amid endless rows of LED-light-studded body suits backstage. "You are always paying homage to him in one way or another even if you don't realize it. He had that kind of influence."


The almost $60 million two-hour production, which bops from the early Jackson Five days to the era of "Smooth Criminal" and back, is more than just another gig for many in the creative team. They see it as a way of saying goodbye to a cherished force in their lives.


"I had to look deep inside and remember everything that Michael did over the years," says choreographer Travis Payne, a longtime collaborator with the Gloved One. "The canon of movement is so vast, you can't hope to capture all of it, so we tried to give it a fresh perspective."


For example, the mime in the show, an odd fellow clad all in white, is both a symbol of Jackson and a reminder that the signature moonwalk move has its origins in the world of mime. The element that binds all these images together is that unmistakable voice.


"He was truly a master of vocals," says the show's musical designer, Kevin Antunes. "I want the fans to experience listening to Michael even though there is a lot of screaming and chanting and I love you Michael,' so we have to work hard to make sure Michael's voice is heard."


For the record, "Immortal" celebrates the Jackson song and dance catalog but also tries to invoke the singer's legacy as a humanitarian. While some consider the singer's reputation besmirched by allegations of child molestation, drug abuse and radical cosmetic surgery, true fans refer to him as a prophet for social change.


"He was more than just a performer -- he was a humanitarian," Tito says. "And that part of his life was most important for me, because he really cared about our world and our society and feeding hunger and making this world a better place. I would like for him to be remembered in those aspects as well as his music."


Watching the project come to fruition brings many fans and family members to tears.


"Seeing how many people love my brother makes me feel good," Tito says. "It makes me feel like he is still alive."

I really don't think these numbers are accurate. Watch the Throne tour ended WEEKS ago...same for Taylor Swift...so what are they still charting?

I'm trying to buy tickets to the cirque show in NY in April but ticketmaster is all out of tickets. I see a lot of other sites that are selling tickets but I don't know if they're reliable or not. As i'm flying in to the u.s especially for this show I want to be sure. Does anyone know a good site I can buy ticktes from?

Ticketmaster is the most reliable. Other sites not sure, plus their ticket prices are all over the places
