No intermission, just 2 hrs of uninterrupted magic. The best bet is to go to the bathroom about 30 min before show time and then sip your soda sparingly lol

Just got back from Vegas and saw the immortal tour at Mandalay bay. Sad thing before seeing the show is my original date got cancelled and I have to book another one and get worse tickets. Then, right after I booking the new tickets they start to give 20% off discount. I am pissed......but anyway, it's great show.

Over all it's a must see show. It's a great tribute. I also went to see "LOVE" and "KA" in the same trip and to my surprise, I actually love immortal more. At beginning I thought LOVE should be more organized because LOVE is permanent show in Vegas and immortal is a tour show. The sounds and music are so great. It's really like a concert. It just kept reminding me that MJ was no longer there and I never got the chance to see him live. The videos played in the screen are all fantastic I really like all the edits and cuts. The show itself is just awesome.

However, some complaints. I think the seating chart is horrible. I don't think they think careful enough about the show is performing in arena. I think only half of the people in the arena really saw the full show. People from the side view can't see the full view of the show. Even the people in the floor can't see the full show if their seats are not behind the small stage. I never saw the giving tree from our seats (only see partial the tree project on the big screen before the show). The technique they used in the beginning of the show looked weird if you see from the side view. I have to turn my head left and right to see the screen and the small stage. It's hard to decide which one I wanted to see and sometimes I got allured by MJ on the big screen and I forget to see the actual people performing on stage. I felt people who pay less money and sit way back might get the better view of whole stage. You really need to sit behind the small stage to see the whole show. I am trying to book tickets to see the show again when it tour to my city. I hope I can get the center view this time. SIGH. I hope they will have the DVD released couple years later.

Just booked 5 tix to the January 18th show at the Pracle Arena in Oakland, ca.. The last bay area show.. All the San Jose shows (where I live) were sold out!!!!

Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour wows Phoenix audience

It's been three years since Michael Jackson passed away, but the King of Pop lives on in a new Cirque Du Soleil show that opened in Phoenix last night for a two show engagement. In a show that salutes Jackson's music from his early days with the Jackson 5, through his revolutionary pop career and highlighting his philanthropic message music, an insanely talented group of dancers, acrobats and musicians brought the music to life in an overwhelmingly entertaining stage show that left the audience breathless. It's a show that fans of Michael Jackson can not miss, but also one that even non-fans would certainly enjoy.Though most of the music is recognizable for anyone who is familiar with Jackson's career, several of the numbers featured some lesser known songs, most likely because they lend themselves to interesting visual interpretations. At points, there is almost too much happening on stage, leaving the crowd wondering where they should be looking, but luckily, there is no wrong place to look. If purchasing tickets for tonight's show in Phoenix, or for another show along the tour route, look to get seats in the mid-theater range or above, as seats on the floor may make it difficult to take everything in (not to mention potential whip lash concerns).

Highlights include an awe-inspiring aerial acrobatic number on straps for the love song "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," a mesmerizing re-enactment of one of Jackson's most famous moves during "Smooth Criminal," and a frequently featured one-legged dancer who performs with and without the aid of crutches. The energy during the show was palpable and reception overwhelmingly positive, as fans leaving the show could be heard raving and reminiscing about their favorite parts on the way out of the show. The show is loud and bright, using pyrotechnics and strobe lighting at some points for emphasis, and is not suitable for small children. Tickets are still available for tonight's show (8:00 PM at US Airways Center) on Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com), and the tour continues for several months for anyone looking to travel.

Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson: the Immortal World Tour. the world premiere of Immortal was in Montreal, the location of Cirque headquarters, on Oct. 2, 2011.

Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 | 2 a.m.
At a cost of about $55 million, “Michael Jackson: the Immortal World Tour” is neither Cirque du Soleil’s most expensive nor most elaborate production. but it’s introducing the circus troupe’s unique craft to new audiences worldwide and expanding how the French-Canadian company does business.

“Immortal,” which brings the music and life of Michael Jackson to the stage, makes its American debut tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. It’s more a rock concert than an acrobatic display, and unlike most of Cirque’s shows, it will tour the world in arenas rather than play in big-top tents or house custom showrooms.

“With ‘Ka,’ we came into an existing theater and refurbished and remodeled it,” said Stephane Mongeau, executive producer of “Immortal.” “ ‘Viva Elvis’ was completely different because it was in a new hotel, a new complex, and the show was built from scratch with zero parameters. with ‘Immortal,’ it’s a very different model. the Michael Jackson tour is an arena tour. It’s built like a concert tour, and we had to design the show around the existing footprint of each venue. So we built a show that could fit everywhere.”

The production will spend the next two years crisscrossing the nation, playing 195 shows in more than 80 North American markets. then, it heads to Europe and Asia. the traveling tour is a precursor to a permanent version of “Immortal” that will take residence in the Mandalay Bay Theatre beginning in early 2013.

In Las Vegas, each of Cirque’s productions plays 10 times a week to crowds of about 2,000. the “Immortal” tour will fill 8,000- to 15,000-capacity arenas four or five times weekly, changing locations every four or so days. its 65 technicians, who travel in 35-truck caravans, will become adept at setting up stages in their allotted 10-hour time frame and breaking them down in four.

To adapt to life on the road and a show constantly on the move, show designers created different versions of “Immortal” to fit any venue encountered.

“We have the AA version, the a version, the B version,” Mongeau said. “At the end of the day, it’s the same show, it’s just different technically.”

Stage set-ups change to accommodate arenas’ varying weight capacities. Scaffolding trims that hook into acrobats’ harnesses move up and down to allow for higher or lower ceilings. the show features 64 performers and 12 band members, many who worked with Jackson while he was alive.

Production of “Immortal” cost about $40 million, Mongeau said. Cirque paid another $15 million to rent sound, lighting and video equipment at venues. Tickets sell for an average of $100.
The show’s price tag is considerably less than Cirque spent on other productions. “The Beatles: Love” at the Mirage, Criss Angel’s “Believe” at the Luxor and “Viva Elvis” at Aria each cost about $100 million to produce. “Ka” at MGM Grand is Cirque du Soleil’s most technologically elaborate and expensive show. It cost $165 million to develop and is considered to be the theater world’s most expensive production to date.

Booking venues for “Immortal” proved relatively easy, Mongeau said. So was securing licensing rights to Jackson’s music.
“When we announced the show, many venues called us,” Mongeau said. “There’s a lot of attention because it’s Michael. when we were trying to sell (Cirque show) “Saltimbanco” and move basketball games, that was tougher. when you come in with Michael Jackson and say we want to be there on a certain date, venues say, ‘OK, we’ll talk to the NHL’ (and clear room on the calendar).”

Jackson’s estate also was on board with the project from the beginning, part of an effort to breathe new life into the musician’s brand since his death. Jackson was a regular to Cirque’s Las Vegas shows and would have approved of “Immortal,” those who knew him said.

The rights to most of Jackson’s songs belong to Sony Music Entertainment and the Universal Motown Records Group, and Cirque easily struck licensing deals with both, Mongeau said. Tracking down the more than 40 people who wrote or co-wrote songs with Jackson was harder. Much of the show’s 20-month pre-production schedule was spent securing those rights, Mongeau said.

“We pay royalties to all of these people from the box office revenue,” he said. “It’s important that they get their fair share right from the top. It’s true with our show designers, too (who also receive royalties). they create the shows, so they get paid first.”

In addition to attracting fans who might not have interest or access to more-traditional Cirque shows, “Immortal” could mark the beginning of a new type of production for the circus troupe. While the company has always included traveling shows in its lineup, Cirque appears to have found a new stride with arena business. the company recently announced a new arena-only show for 2013.
“Arena 2013,” as it is aptly titled, will center on extreme sports and is expected to debut in Montreal in December 2013.

Michael Jackson's appeal seems to be immortal in Phoenix - Phoenix business insight | Examiner.com
Michael Jackson will probably, ultimately, be the highest-grossing celebrity of all time. Forbes listed the $170 million earned by his estate as first on the list of top-earning, deceased celebrities in 2011. His influence definitely helped inspire Arizonans on December 30. Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour resuscitated what would have been a dead night in downtown Phoenix (the main draw in town was the Insight Bowl going on at the same time in Tempe).

Phoenix was lucky to be near the start of a tour that will visit about 50 major cities by August—a feat, which would have not been possible by a live, aging superstar.

The show was, yet another Cirque du Soleil creation. Though some people were disappointed there was not more of the usual jugglers and plate twirlers, most were pleasantly surprised to see the emphasis placed on what Jackson did best—dance. Everyone’s favorite Jackson dance tunes (from Dancing Machine to Thriller to his latest They Don’t Really Care About Us) were presented as energetic ensemble numbers, punctuated by spectacular, pyrotechnics. Audience favorites included a break-dancer with one leg and psychedelic crutches, others in America’s-Got-Talent-inspired LED-lighted costumes, and a sparkled-encrusted emcee, seemingly without bones in his body.

In addition to the hip-hop dancers, which solicited screams from teen fans, there were enough other styles to provide something for everyone. There were clown-like Jackson 5 imitators for kids, which were not even a glint in their parents’ eyes when Jackson was at his height. There were aerial ballets to ballads (Just Can’t Stop Loving You), for Moms and, the best pole dance (Dangerous) anyone had ever seen, for Dads.

The most poignant moments were the video clips of the real Michael Jackson, especially as a beautiful, young child, singing songs like ABC. It was sad to think about the loss of innocence, and, eventually, of life for a uniquely talented individual.

The show attracted the most diverse audience—all ages, races, nationalities, and gender identities—imaginable for Phoenix. In a state still racked by racial consternation and controversy over illegal immigration, it was refreshing to see such harmony. In 2012, it would be great if the nostalgia, fun and happiness inspired by one of history’s greatest entertainers and experienced by the sold-out crowd flowing out of US Airways Center after the wonderful two-hour show, could be recreated all night every night in Phoenix.
