The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Speaking of Loving You real quick, am I the only one who notices quite some wow at the beginning of the original demo?

actually, the 2014 CD version is less distorted than the digital version. I only have the CD, Vinyl and Qobuz version so idk if it sounds any different.

Is a playback error during transferring (even being intentional) supposed to be cool?
yeah it's a real sign that the Estate is incompetent at transferring tapes, which should not be what they're known for.

The Best of Joy redux was mixed with segments and instruments from the Thriller, Dangerous, 2008 and 2010 Version of the song (actually some things are so quiet that you can't really hear them in the final mix). The Intro uses segments from the 1981 and 2008/2010 version.
I had no idea there were people who had the 1991 version of BoJ lol, good to know ig. Thanks for clarifying!

Sidebar: one of the tapes has a date of July 1985 listed. Could that be when “Loving You” was recorded?
I think yeah. According to the info on the Xscape booklet:

"[...] originally recorded at Red Wing Studio in the San Fernando Valley during the early Bad sessions. [...] After his home studio was renovated, Jackson continued work on the track at Hayvenhurst."

That would explain there being two boxes: the multitrack reel (dated 7-28-85) and the 2" stereo reel contaning that, Turning Me Off and a third song I couldn't decypher. It could mean that the song was recorded at Red Wing and later mixed or remixed at Hayvenhurst.

The warping sound was something that was intentionally done yeah. I remember reading the quote about it when it came out.

There is song from bad period called splash we can get wet babe there is any info about it it's registered ?

Cheater was that third song.

An inside source who I prefer not to name. I don't get my kicks out of posting false info, either, so I find it reliable. I'll just say it is someone who would know, given the circumstances.
Turning me off someone said no verses only chords

“Turnin’ Me Off” was recorded at Hayvenhurst in January ‘86, so it can’t be that. However, Matt Forger told Damien Shields that MJ randomly asked him to mix “Loving You” one day and then never returned to it—perhaps that’s why they’re on the same reel?

Makes sense. He had the multitrack lying around and Matt got to mixing all in one sitting.
