Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary- DVD / Blu Ray [available on iTunes Nov 19]

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

After rereading the lastest Estate statement, I think they let slipped that documentary will actually air in the States on Thanksgiving. Now I just need a timeline so we can plan Legacy of Love's annual MJ Turkey day accordingly.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

I saw a TV Spot for The Spike Lee Doc. on VOX, it will be dubbed. And there was a little snipped of Michael and Stevie :D

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Oh i forgot the link, thanks for posting it^^

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Just noticed Pet Shop Boys 'Winner' is at #16 in that chart in their 4th week (up from #20 in their 3rd week). Why the heck is that song getting more spins than BAD25? LOL

Also, I just noticed that BBC1 are showing the new Freddie Mercury documentary next week at 10:35pm so there's hope for Spike's doc to be on the same channel.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Winner? Seriously? I don't understand people's music taste any more.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

In German Vox TV they send regularly advertising since yesterday for the 4-hour Bad 25- special on 20. October with the free-TV-premiere from the Spike Lee documentary. They have different spots and it's great advertising.

so the documentary is 4 hours ?

you know that there's a lot of advertising on TV right? So a 4 hour block will not equal to 4 hour footage. It would be 4 hours minus amount of time spent for advertising.

Michael Jackson Doc 'BAD25' Coming to Movie Theaters in New York and Los Angeles

8:00 AM PDT 10/11/2012 by Shirley Halperin

The Spike Lee-directed film, which recently debuted at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, will see exclusive one-week engagements on the coasts beginning Oct. 19.

The Spike Lee-directed documentary BAD25, which chronicles the making of Michael Jackson's 1987 hit album and recently debuted at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, will see a limited theatrical run beginning Oct. 19. That's when fans in Los Angeles and New York will be able to screen the doc in exclusive one-week engagements (see locations and dates below).

Examining Jackson’s creative vision, Academy Award winner Lee uses rare footage along with the recollections of Jackson's collaborators and confidants to tell the story of the album. Among them: Martin Scorsese who directed the 18-minute short film for the single "Bad," and Mariah Carey.

The doc is one of several projects timed to the 25th anniversary of Bad. They include a deluxe package of remastered music along with a second disc of 13 rare and previously unreleased bonus tracks, as well as the first ever DVD and live CD from the Bad world tour (shot and recorded on July 16, 1988 at Wembley stadium).
Said John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of The Estate of Michael Jackson, in a statement: “Spike was the only choice for us when we decided to open up the archives and make this documentary. He has done a masterful job taking the audience behind the scenes and revealing how this ‘coming of age’ project was created.”

See BAD25 screening information below:
New York: Oct. 19 to 26 at AMC Loews Theater; 66 Third Ave.
Los Angeles: Oct. 26 to Nov. 2 at Chinese 6 Theaters; 6801 Hollywood Blvd.

After the theater run, BAD25 will air on ABC on Thanksgiving night (Nov. 22).

Lucky New Yorkers again, and now joined with LA:D

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

When I read about the documentary coming to theaters, I was hoping it was going to be like Ghosts and show in 10 theaters across the USA. Just NY and LA leaves out so many people! I guess they are just doing this so it can be eligible for an Oscar.

Could that be the reason? Oh boy, it would be great if Spike is aiming for an Oscar:clapping:

I believe so. I don't think the documentary can be eligible for an Oscar unless it was shown in a theater.

Great:clapping: I'm sure it will win:D

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

so the documentary is 4 hours ?

They show the 120 minutes Spike Lee documentary and before this another 90-minutes documentation produced by Vox. There are prominent German people who speak about Michael. In the trailer you can see for example Sarah Conner or the chief editor of Bravo Alex Gernandt (this are real Michael fans). Vox was also on the Michael-honours (with theme Bad 25) in Colgne and they will show something about this. In the description they also say family members will speak. So we have to wait and see if this is also a good documention. But overall I hope it will be a good thing.

I hope New York and LA fans make sure that there is a strong turnout for the documentary. Maybe they will consider a few more cities if it is successful?

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

can anyone confirm that Spike Lee's documentary will be seen in theaters, New York and LA? I seen it posted to day on my home page.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Are there any other TV broadcasts except the German world premiere (on VOX on 20th October 2012) and the US premiere in November?

The limited cinema screening seems like a move that was made due to poor sales in the hope for some publicity.

Spike Lee's Michael Jackson Doc 'Bad 25' Will Have 1-Week Oscar-Qualifying Theatrical Run

NEWS BY TAMBAY A. OBENSON
OCTOBER 11, 2012 1:07 PM

Following its Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival screenings, Spike Lee's Michael Jackson documentary, made in collaboration with the estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music, titled Bad 25, is already scheduled to air on ABC on Thanksgiving Day, in November.

However, before that, as reported this morning, the feature documentary will be released theatrically for 1 week, beginning October 19, but, unfortunately, only in New York, and Los Angeles.

I'm guessing this is to give it an Oscar-qualifying run.

Playdates/locations for the NYC and LA theatrical release follow:

New York: Oct. 19 to 26 at AMC Loews Theater; 66 Third Ave.

Los Angeles: Oct. 26 to Nov. 2 at Chinese 6 Theaters; 6801 Hollywood Blvd.

The rest of the USA will have to wait about another month, to see it on ABC on Thanksgiving night (November 22).

Bad 25 shares fresh insights into the King of Pop's creative vision that resulted in his landmark Bad album, marking its 25th anniversary this year.

"This will be a very special Thanksgiving for all families to enjoy the genius of Michael Jackson... Big thanks to ABC for allowing people to witness the making of Michael Jackson's 'BAD' album. Shamon," said Spike Lee in a statement.

The film promises rare and never-before-seen footage, and the first ever in-depth, behind-the-scenes film project to chronicle a Michael Jackson album and tour.

Included will be numerous interviews conducted by Spike Lee, including Jackson's confidants, choreographers, musicians and collaborators.

We've been teased with a clip or two of Bad 25; a first full trailer should premiere soon.

Wow! It'd be awesome if it won the Oscar! Which docus are the potential rivals?

Eric, you were right, they are aiming for Oscar:wild:

Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson Documentary Coming to Theaters This Month

Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson documentary, “Bad 25,” is getting a short theatrical run before its airing on ABC. “Bad 25″ will play for one week in New York beginning October 19th, and one week in Los Angeles starting October 26th. These will be qualifying runs for the Academy Awards. The TV date is Thanksgiving. The New York theater is AMC at 66 Third Avenue. The LA venue is Chinese 6 in Hollywood. The film is another part of the “Bad 25″ campaign that already includes the boxed set and the various CD/DVD configurations. If you don’t have the “Bad 25″ double CD with the remastered original album and the demos album, you’re really missing something. And then the DVD of the Wembley Stadium show is a rare Jackson live performance. The “Bad25″ has been nicely done by the Jackson estate but a little under-marketed by Sony. The demos are particularly great–something Sony has not capitalized on for some reason.

Just called the AMC Lowes in NYC. The tickets are $13.50 per person. Not bad. You can purchase it the day you want to see the film as well.
