Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary- DVD / Blu Ray [available on iTunes Nov 19]

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary discussion Thread

Hey Kevin, thanks for the info. I visited your site. I remember when TGIM08 was released you supported it on radio.
Keep us updated on the TV showing if you hear any more about it. I hope it gets a mainstream slot on a major channel not BBC3 for example. If Sony or the MJ EState manage to secure a MJ night (or even just show this documentary) on BBC1 then I will be a happy bunny. I just hope the poor sales for BAD25 don't influence the BBCs programmers to show it on BBC3 instead of BBC1.

WTF?

Maybe ABC will cancel Thanksgiving broadcast of the documentary too. Let's ask them...lol

*rolls eyes exits thread*

Sales have not been poor in the UK. It's Nr 6th on the album charts. And the DVD is Nr 2 on the DVD charts.

IT will probably drop out of the Top40 in the UK after only 2 weeks (According to midweek charts), so sales have been poor in the UK.

Meme and Qbee I didn't say BBC would drop it completely, but with such poor album sales I suggested that the BBC might decide to air it on a less popular channel like BBC3. Now I see Kevin says they will air the concert too, I know they will not show it on BBC1. It will be BBC3. Shame.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Queen Live was shown on BBC2, so I think this will be on BBC2 also!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

Some people just like non-stop negativity, I guess...

Just let me remind ourselves, that it started with the good news that BBC will air the docu which is great. But there are people who like to turn even good news into negativity.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

I'm not being negative... I'm saying if it's shown on BBC2 which I think it will be then I'll be happy. that's the channel they showed Bucharest on at Christmas 2010 so their you go. I'm sure many people will tune in to see these shows. considering the crap that'd normally shown *cough* *cough* only way is Essex ;)

It wasn't directed towards you, Zakk. But it's really annoying that some people are able to turn even good news into negativity (not you). It's almost as if they are seeking every opportunity to spoil the party.

IMO it's great news that BBC will air it, whether it will be BBC1, BBC2 or BBC3. It will be on TV and people will get the opportunity to see it and that is important. I'm happy about it. I wish a channel would air it in my country as well.

I'm also glad they will air the concert too! Yay! That's awesome. I thought TVs would not air it because it's not HD so I think it's great news that BBC does.

If BBC has the habit to normally play concerts and music docus on BBC2 (Zakk mentioned the Queen concert was aired there too) then I don't think it's an insult to MJ or a "shame" if they will air the MJ stuff on BBC2 and not on BBC1.

they had a queen night on BBC 2 it had Queen Live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1975
and the those were the days of our lives docu so most likely it will be BBC 2 :)

So I guess you're correct. It'll probably be BBC2 not BBC3 (who also show concerts from time to time).

"Under African Skies", the documentary made to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Paul Simon's Graceland album (absolute CLASSIC!) was shown in July on BBC1 so I hoped they would also show BAD25 where the viewing figures can be very large compared to BBC2 (although BBC2 is much better than BBC3).

I just wish the doc would come out sooner, November is still a long way off!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary discussion Thread

Yes it BAD25 did very well in UK and really all over most the world. plus I dont know why that would cause BBC to pull out on Spikes documenrtary. That has had rave reviews every where its premiered. :)

Sales have not been poor in the UK. It's Nr 6th on the album charts. And the DVD is Nr 2 on the DVD charts.

It's official, BAD25 has dropped from #6 to #38 in the UK album chart in its second week. Not as bad as I anticipated (I thought it would drop just outside the Top40, but it's still poor.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

It will climb back up .. its a rerelease and isnt going to have a long life in the charts - Thats a given.
we can do our part to get the word out by commenting and giving reviews on music websites and
promoting it on our social networks . MJ fans have always been pro active in the past - we also need
to step up to support and promot this Just as we always did when Michael was here.

It doesn't matter about the BBC airing of the Spike Lee documentary and the concert. It was only you trying to make a connection between the two. Hopefully when those air it will boost sales as well.

I'm sure it will be shown BBC 1 or 2 as they showed This Is It, and eventually other channels will pick it up too. I'm expecting to see it on Sky or Sky arts channel, channel 5 and 4 + main Irish channels too.
All those channels showed This Is It as soon it was made available for telly. There is definitely demand for MJ documentaries but they haven't been made, at least proper one (I don't count Ian Halperin doc as proper:)) This would be the first of its kind, any channel honchos would be stupid not to pick it up.

Actually i agree with bobmoo, i'm v keen for it to be shown on a main bbc channel (1 or 2) rather than a minor one because of the audience reach. It's just fans being anxious for a positive mj doc being seen by casual viewers rather than people hunting it out on one of the myriad of minor channels that we now all have on freeview (what all uk tvs are equipped with).

@bobmoo79- serious music docs are found on bbc4 not 3 - bbc3 seems to be a 'yoof' channel with repeats of eastenders, bbc4 is more upmarket and cultured but as we know both have low audiences. I'd be happy with bbc2 at a 9pm slot. That paul simon graceland doc was part of the imagine series, and was on at 10.25pm on bbc1, quite late. I think what will sell it for the bbc, as well as mj, is the fact it is by spike lee - a great choice from the estate. I can't imagine the sales of bad25 will impact - i think mj has proved his worth in sales by now!

Wow I thought I was on my own. Thanks :)
I wonder when the BBC will announce the schedule? Pop Prince said it would be soon, but I can't wait to find out.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

^ If it's around christmas, tv stations don't reveal their schedules til late on (to frustrate the competition!), so i suspect we'll just have to wait for confirmation from the estate that bbc have picked it up and a rough idea when it'll be shown.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

I saw on tv that it's jeff lynne night on BBC 4 in a couple of nights time, so I guess that's who will show mj night after all. Damn.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

BBC4? that channel gets under a million viewers everyday... should be on BBC2 no one will take notice now :(

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

I did a little digging and according to Wikipedia, which I acknowledge is not always the most accurate source of information, the highest viewing figure BBC4 has ever had for a show was 1.625 million at primetime (I think it's usually less than a million as Zakk stated). Unless MJ breaks the record on BBC4 we should expect there to be fewer viewers than 1.6million IMO. that's very low compared to what could have been achieved on either BBC1 or BBC2, where the figures could have been 4 or 5 times higher at prime time. Fingers crossed BBC show it on one of those channels and not BBC4 as seems likely..

Or better yet...you could WAIT for an official announcement before going on & on about BBC 4 and whatever else.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

In German Vox TV they send regularly advertising since yesterday for the 4-hour Bad 25- special on 20. October with the free-TV-premiere from the Spike Lee documentary. They have different spots and it's great advertising.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

what wonderful? thank you for your share this picture!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

i'm wait the doc !! ha

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]

N I think the the documetray is about 2 hours. The whole BAD25 special will be 4 hours so they will have other content.

Actually i watched an interview (Might have been the london premiere Q+A) and i remember him saying that there was an added 1hour or 2 on the DVD that wasn't shown at the premiere (maybe thats what they are showing on TV - but you could be right)
