Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary [Discussion]
LOL I love Kermit's gif
LOL I love Kermit's gif
but I simply don't think these stars might give us valuable information on BAD.

I totally agree with u cuz most of these stars that are in the documentary are too young to even know much bout the bad era. I would prefer it if the ppl who were around/involved with bad album/bad era to be in the documentary as that would make more sense
yes Tatiana was interviewed, here is her on the set with Kanye West
Sky Arts in the UK could want it, and bid the highest...
I hope not. It would be bad enough if Sky One bought it.
I would prefer it to be on mainstream TV with maximum possible number of viewers. Sky Arts would be lucky to pull in more than a few hundred thousand viewers, but BBC1 or ITV1 could probably draw more than 5million. There's no contest.
I'm sure Sony and the estate will prefer to sell to BBC 1/ITV 1 and if they have any sense they'll sell to them even if their bid is lower than Sky Arts because the exposure MJ will get will be much bigger.
Anyway we'll see what happens.
BTW with reference to a previous post of mine, another reason why JB, CB etc are good for this documentary is quite simply because they appeal to a younger demographic. The MJ Estate know that they need to sustain MJ's legacy and appeal. The best way to do that is to propogate it down to the younger generation. Generally speaking those young fans probably wouldn't be interested in watching a documentary about MJ and the old guys who worked with him in the 1980s - they're too young to care about that stuff, it's ancient history to them. Not only do CB, JB etc demonstrate MJ's ongoing appeal to young stars of today, but also their fans will be interested to watch the show and will hopefully be influenced to like MJ's music (assuming they don't already). It would be a bad move not to include current stars IMO.
I would also like people like Usher, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, Beyonce, NeYo, and Will.i.am to be included. They're all well respected international stars that were influenced by MJ. From the late 90s until his death MJ was dismissed by many people as a 'has-been' and 'irrelevant', despite massive MJ-influenced acts like Beyonce, JT, Usher dominating the charts, but it's hard to justify that opinion when these guys are on TV saying MJ was the king.
(some beautiful shots of Mike's a$$ too :naughty

I agree. I don't mind Justin Bieber or Chris Brown saying a few sentences in it. Do I like their music? No. But that's besides the point. It's a fact that many people were inspired by MJ and if the younger generation first meets MJ through their fandom of JB or CB then so be it.
I'm glad somebody understands where I'm coming from.
I know this strategy works because I became a fan of James Brown through MJ's appreciation of his work.
Without Mj's influence I would have dismissed JB, just as I did with many other excellent artists who were 'before my time'.
Sony need to keep making money off MJ for the forseeable future and so attracting a new younger audience makes sense. The Estate can't rely on the existing fan base because that will only diminish over time.

I know a lot of us don't much care for Quincy Jones anymore, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't interviewed for this in some way.
They said that over 40 people will be in the documentary. For now we know:
Spike Lee himself confirmed: Bruce Swedien, Greg Phillinganes, Siedah Garrett, Glen Ballard, Steve Stevens, Wesley Snipes, Jeffrey Daniel, Stevie Wonder, Questlove, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey
Richard Lecocq from mjdatabank confirmed: Walter Yetnikoff, Larry Stessel, John Robinson, Ollie E. Brown, Jim Blashfield
Michael Jackson's Estate confirmed in the announcement: Cee Lo Green, Sheryl Crow, Martin Scorcese, Joe Pytka, Matt Forger, Vincent Paterson
billyworld99 confirmed here in this thread: Tatianna Thumbtzen

No exact date so far.Maybe I missed it, but is there a date for when this will be aired?
And through MJ I learnt about some really great old-timers.
It can happen with fans of current artists regarding MJ.
I'd gladly trade QJ over JB anytime, out of all the people confirmed I'm Ok with all of them except the latter, despite the interest it might arouse, let's remember that his fan base is still conformed of pre-adolescent girls and as much as they might appreciate MJ's music, we have to consider that his fans have unconsciously accused legendary artists of ... "copying" JB. I wouldn't want people with that kind of narrow mind to follow Michael just because their idol likes him.
I hate JB's music as well but are you really interested to hear from a man who backstabbed Michael saying bs about his skin disease and his own children (when he was alive)? I'm not to be honest...
Yeah totally my point, thanks for understanding what I was trying to express. :kickass:
