I know...like this site i went too, looking for more news about this, Most were Black ppl.(like me) and they were hatin' on HIM. I think the some of the Black community who dont understand or BELIEVE, about his skin disease, think that he went to the white race by choice, and they feel betrayed...I can understand that.
BUT REALLY? After he pured his heart out on OPRAH Telling the whole WORLD that he has this disease, they still didnt believe him. NOW Thats their fault. I mean, they only hear what the Media wants them to hear.
If there are any black folks on here, would u pleace response to my comment, cuz i would like to know what you think.
Sorry for the length. I'll comment on this 'cause I'm in a chatty mood, although it is rushed so I have no time to contemplate fine details, I may need to edit or answer a question or two later.
I feel it is a double-edged sword as to who's "fault" it is that black people have that perception. Black people can be very "covetous" about Michael, because he is among our own race and the "roots" of the "First Family of Entertainment:" go deep within the hearts of people from his own culture. I believe that's why in one of the earlier Ebony or Jet interviews he'd said, "let all the readers know that me and ___ whoever it was ... Tatum (?) are just friends. He was subsquently photographed with more white women than any others (I know publicity yada....just tryin to make a point for anyone who'd jump in with that thought) - meanwhile he also had a very necessary surgery on his nose (it had been broken?) then another, while meanwhile, his skin color was changing.
In the long absence of an explanation to the public about why his appeaance started changing, imho black people were left to do what most people do who have little or no info....draw ttheir own conclusions and since blacks had for so long, been so accustomed to OTHER blacks who (so-called) "tried to become white" by turning against themselves/their own race, people drew the conclusion that Mike was doing the same. Perhaps by the time he did the Oprah interview a number of years after that impression was put in their minds, they may have been more sensittive to the "impressions" they had already been left with, keeping in mind that a photograph is worth a thousand words, plus it wasn't like there was only one or two.
That is one side of the "sword". The other side is that regardless to his roots, Mike is essentially "from" an affluent, white environment, and he is the KING of that environment at that, so his choices were by far, not limited to only being with black people, or of course not limited to being photographed with black people, not to mention the fact that there was some good business in some of his decisions imho - afterall, he did say he'd wanted to broaden his demographic, he wanted his music to have longevity, be timeless and reach the far corners of the earth, and whether it was an intentional stratregy on MJ's part or not, Its not a secret that White women, since they belong to the "majority" race are perceived by society as being the "trump" card for a black man's success, at least its perceived as such among many in the black culture and due to the feeling of "rejection" that hurts blacks' sense of personal pride and makes them angry because of the sensitivity of the fact that historically not only are/were whiltes against black people, but black people were "conditioned" to be against blacks too.
Its a "legacy" blacks were left with from the psychologically debilitating scorge of slavery - where they used even our own skin color (light/dark) against one another, so the "message" to "us" for our survival became, "go white", "white is right", so anyway, those I feel are part of the reasons why black people are especially sensitive to that notion and many have not dug deeper to find out what's really going on with MJ. Many people, black nor white, know that Michael LOVES black females. Only the most astute observers can really notice it. He keeps his personal life personal and has every reason and right to. At the end of the day, he lets people think what they will, blacks, whites and everyone else. I will add that he has always honord black women by having them play the lead alongside him in his films. An again, all this is jmho.
