Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

Is Jermaine the next Michael Jackson?

^Dang it! I've already been spoiled enough by reading the setlist, now I must resist the urge to click on those links!

At least I only have a week until I'll get to see them for myself.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

This looks awful. I've seen impersonators put on more elaborate shows. I've always believed it was Michael who drew the real crowds, and this sort of proves it.

Dam of course it was michael who drew the crowd. Even when the brothers performed in the Victory show and at MSG you could hear people screaming out Michael. They did it at the Immortal show too, even though Michael is not physically present. Maybe someone screamed out Michael at the brothers show too. Michael was always the one who spoke to the crowd, introduced the songs, and got them riled up, and you see this in footage of the J5 concerts.

I guess in this tour the brothers are doing the best they can. Maybe no one wanted to spend too much money on an elaborate production, given the fact the brothers are old timers. Their aim was merely to appeal to the nostalgic feelings of people who wanted to hear the old songs, and fans who are curious about the group that Michael was a part of. Of course they added Michael's songs to show their connection to Michael Jackson and as a tribute to him.

I wonder how much each brother got paid to do this tour?

This. Reading some comments here make me wonder if I watched the same clips of the Jackson 4 as they do:bugeyed. I'd better not say much now merely because they finally work to make money. I wish them success in this tour.

No, you watched the same clips, but people have different opinions.
I, for one, did like what I saw, to my own surprise. They can sing, this is nostalgic, and frankly I never expect "elaborate production" from Jacksons concert. This was always just like that - guys on stage with flashy costumes and catchy songs. Sans Victory tour, but this was totally different era.
I wish brothers bests of lack on this tour. After what I saw in this clips, if they ever come to Canada, I will buy a ticket.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

I think Michael would be happy for his brothers.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

If you were expecting this to be as good as the other Jacksons tours which had Michael singing lead then of course you will be disappointed. I watched the videos expecting to see the remaining members of a 70s/80s group performing their old hits and that's exactly what I saw. If this tour comes to the UK I will buy tickets.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

It's the ''tight-nit'' image they portray of such a close family. We heard from MJ himself, ''tight-nit my ass''. It was exactly what I was expecting, nothing special. I could so tell MJ wasn't there to guide them on how to do it right, it didn't have the same 'slickness' as MSG had.

Im really impressed with their performances to be honest.
Thank you Nesman. I didn't watch all of it, but I will.

It must be really strange and hard for them performing without MJ. It was strange for me watching.

I wish them the best of luck during their tour.

So even though they've been musicians since they were kids, they cant perform on their own without Michael? They were working hard too during all those J5 and Jacksons years. Are they just supposed to never perform again because their brother is gone? I think its great that they are all together again for a relly solid tour with great performances. They cant go back in time and perform with Michael again, nothing can change that.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

They performed at Casino Rama....just a few hours from where I'm from...If I were still living in Ontario (I'm in Alberta now), I so would have went to see them :D

It would "appear" as if that's the way the brothers felt, since instead of going out there own their own, they continued to waste time BEGGING Michael to join them again, instead of doing what they are doing now.

It's like, in my opinion, without Michael, they had NO confidence in themselves, but now that Michael is gone they have no other choice.

All of those wasted years, and for what!

They most likely wouldn't have had to endure the "pain" of dealing with 12-13 cancelled dates had they just gone out there and forged a career independent of little brother Michael years ago. They would have been established, without folks WONDERING "should I purchase a ticket to a J4 concert or not?"

The brothers have performed without Michael before. They performed several times (Jackie, Jermaine, Tito) to promote 2300 Jackson Street and made four music videos without him - Torture, Body, Art of Madness, Nothin That Compares To You. And they've all released solo projects and performed on their own so I don't think confidence is an issue.

How many years ago was that? 10? 15? 20? 25? 30? (I have no idea, I'm just asking.)

While they wasted time waiting AND HOPING Michael would join them again, they could have done exactly what they are doing now. Don'tchathink!

And then people would have complained that they should have waited for Michael. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't but I'm glad they are doing it now cos they are great.

This. They play without Michael - wrong. They try to persuade Michael to join them - wrong. They get back to the stage after Michael's passing and play some of his song as a tribute - wrong again.
They simply cannot do right in the eyes of some Michael's fans. No matter what they do.
And frankly, I believe that this approach towards them is simply... wrong. But to each his or her own.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

I'm not sure if it was lack of confidence, just economics. with mj they had a chance to make megabucks on a tour - how much was their take on victory - around $5-7m each, and so all their efforts went towards trying to get him involved, doing it on their own just wouldn't seem worth it in comparison.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

Bonnie Blue, didn't Michael donate all of his earnings from the Victory tour to charity? (sorry to be O.T)

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

If I remember correctly Michael and his brothers shared the equal potion of revenue, 6 or 7 millions each. It's the fact Michael donated every penny he earned in victory tour to charities, 7 millions I think.

Re: Official: The Jackson Start Their National Reunion Tour in July

I understand they can't please all the fans. You can't anyway. I just think that if they had done this before Michael died that Michael would have supported them and cheered them on. If Michael was okay with it then I think most people would have been too. I don't think Michael wanted to reunite with his brothers. He always had things he wanted to do for his career. Maybe he would have done something down the road with them who knows.

Ready for the Jackson 4?

The main, remaining members from one of music’s paramount families — Marlon, Jermaine, Jackie and Tito — will take the stage at the Apollo Theater Thursday night for the first time since the death of their beloved brother Michael.

It’s gotta be difficult, both musically and emotionally.

“It’s not as difficult as I thought it would be,” says Marlon Jackson, who, at 55, is closest in age to Michael.

“He’s present with us onstage. We have a great time when we perform and we know he’s up there with us.”
Certainly, his image is. The show — which includes all the old hits from both the Jackson 5 and Jacksons phases of the group — features key video footage of their late brother.

It does not, however, employ a trick many speculated on: a Michael hologram, in the manner of Snoop Dogg’s headline-making usage of one for the late Tupac Shakur at the Coachella Festival in April.

“That was a rumor; we would never do that,” Marlon says. “The technology would have to get a lot better.”

As it stands, the Apollo show comes as part of a full national roadshow, dubbed the “Unity Tour.” It’s the brothers’ first sustained jaunt since the ancient days of the “Victory Tour,” back in the “Thriller” heyday of 1984. (The brothers have done individual shows, in various configurations, in the years between.)

The new tour, which kicked off June 20 in Ontario, hasn’t been without controversy. They canceled the first two planned dates. Jackson says that was due to “conflicts in our schedule.”

That raised eyebrows as did the fact that brother Randy (not part of the original Jackson 5 but a later Jacksons member) chose not to participate in the tour.

“We respect his decision — leave it at that,” Jackson says. “Next time around, hopefully he’ll be there.”
Others have criticized the very idea of The Jacksons performing their songs without Michael.

“Those who feel that way don’t have to show up,” Jackson says. “We listen to our fans and they wanted us to do this.”

In order to do so, the group needed to alter some of Michael’s old parts. “We change the key. You can work around that,” Jackson says. “Each brother does his own thing.”

They far prefer that thing to other interpretations of old Jackson material. The star wasn’t overly impressed with Cirque du Soliel’s take on Michael’s music in the “Immortal World Tour” show. “It was okay,” Jackson says. “We appreciate it. But in the end, it needs a little more fire.”

That’s something the original Jackson brothers feel they can bring to the stage, along with the deep emotional connection only family can deliver. For the brothers, playing this music at this point has its own healing quality — especially delivered at a historic hall like The Apollo, where the Jackson 5 first played back in 1969.

“This is what we do,” Jackson says. “To do it up there for him — it makes you feel good.”
