MJ Forever Tribute/ MJJC Statement / Estate statement / Fan letter pg51/ GLE put on administration

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

So??? It was already mentioned in this thread that for Black people, how MJ looked was a matter of deep contention. If you asked the average black person, many felt MJ had sold out. You have to consider your audience. Jamie was making it known, that regardless of how the black people felt about how MJ looked, there was no denying that this man should be honored. There was no denying what this man has done. He went on after that comment to say how they were celebrating MJ of all eras, light skinned and dark skinned. Again, as I said before, when BET has commercials about their stars, they don't show MJ past his afro. It is well known how many felt after this time period that Mj was not "black enough" for them. Jamie said, we are claiming MJ of all eras and celebrating MJ of all eras. He was talking to an audience of people who on many levels disowned MJ at a certain point. He also said how MJ was a black man, and should be celebrated as such.

If you are going to bring out random quotes to condemn a person, put it in context and know what you are talking about. I am so upset at people picking solitary comments out of context to try and persuade people to jump on this hate bandwagon.

I watched the BET awards. Did you? I listened to Jamie's interviews. Did you? Do you know who he really is? Have you examined him and his career, or are you picking and choosing? If you are picking and choosing then there is not need to converse with people who will not educate themselves but yet are so quick to come to a conclusion about who a person is.

I am not trying to be harsh. And, if after really examining Jamie, if people still felt the same, what could I say. But I think we all have a responsiblity to denounce misinformation, especially if it is used to change others' opinions about a person.

Oh yessssssss.... I Cannot get enough of those.

I've known of Jamie Foxx before he was mainstream, and MJ has always been the butt of his jokes.

And guess what? I agree with Petrarose's assertion.

Jamie Foxx & his ignorant ass has no business in a Michael Jackson tribute, but money talks right?

::Rolls eyes::

ETA. What this all proves, is people with common sense are staying away from this hot mess. They are scraping the barrel...Jamie Foxx hasn't been relevant since GoldDigger...#JustSayin'

Memefan, I have known of Jamie before he became mainstream as well. I actually became familiar with him from ILC. I am not as familiar with his stand up. Are you saying that Jamie used to make fun of MJ like Chris Rock did? I can only remember Jamie speaking well of MJ in interviews, all the way back when he did that first solo album. That was a LONG time ago.

I just do not remember Jamie as one of the ones who was a consistent basher of MJ.

Regardless, if you don't think he belongs there, with you knowing his career, as I said, what can I say then? I was simply telling the people in the thread who are not familiar with who he was or what he did and only know from one video and from what someone mistakenly said on the thread and were coming to their conclusion based on that, not to be so quick to jump over people.

Memefan - no, it's not me. I don't do Facebook or Twitter :)

Well, it depends on what you mean by consistent... He didn't go on an on about it, but his jokes were more Chris Rock than Eddie Murphy or Chris Tucker.

I remember he was once a talk show, and he made jokes about MJ, I mean he was there to plug his elfin' product, but because the host (I am pretty sure it was Jay Leno) went after Michael during the monologue, he thought it would be cool to do the same when he came out.

He is such a people pleaser...unlike Chris Rock.

I just cannot deal with his and his crap. But like I said, he career is dying, he might think this is a great opportunity, you never know. But he is not doing it to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. Again, Money Forever is far more appropriate.

Thank Goodness, because that person's view is so radical from what you post here. Last night, he or she was plugging Jermaine's book...I almost threw up.

Thank you for answering.

I agree with you (I do know Foxx's career. Hey! I'm so old, I remember when Tavis was on BET!!!! :busted: ) In a way, the overarching POINT is, that the family and/or GLE don't really know much about Michael, given their choices to-date of people to include in the show! (I wonder if Chris Tucker was even ASKED?)

A Tribute should have those involved who had some connection to the artist, rather than just being any people who would agree to perform and whose schedules happened to be clear? That type of show should be to HONOR the artist by those who knew him/honored him. (Foxx lost me at the "he tore his face up" comment. With friends like THAT, etc.? So, maybe he apologized to Michael, and maybe not -- but I never heard any sort of PUBLIC apology for some of the rough material.)

A genuine tribute would have HEADLINERS
-- I mean, "A-list," and those who've been respectful to Michael -- to be fitting for the mega-star and humanitarian Michael was. I don't see that happening. . . . and it's sad. That there aren't any headliners (not really?) is probably more a factor of suspicion about the family's ability to pull this off, than it is their lack of respect for Michael? Hopefully?

Well Autumn, I remember when Tavis was on BET. But, I don't think that should make us old. :p

I think the there are not they caliber of performers that people are expecting is for many reasons. I think it includes the family's ability to pull it off given their reputation and their actions since MJ died. I think it is a matter of timing since really big artists often have their schedules done way in advance. I think as someone said, people might not be familiar with the promoter. I think some might not like the Estate is not involved. I think there are many and varied reasons why people choose to stay away.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Well the folks who run the Michael "can't say is last name" Facebook Tribute page, finally gave me the big boot. LOL! I've been blocked. I've been kicked to the curb!

I wonder if it's something I said. LOL!

Agree, it's all these factors (So happy to hear that remembering Tavis on BET doesn't make us OLD!) Mostly, it's the bad TIMING of this "tribute." I think the family totally underestimates the dedication of most fans, and the concern about the TRIAL. The KISS fiasco raised major doubts about the nature of the concert, as a REAL "tribute," as opposed to a money-making venture.

I'd like to know how many tickets have been sold, as of now? (wonder how many must be sold just to break even? These artists will expect to be PAID, regardless)

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

I'll be honest and say I'm not really knowledgeable about all the racial discussion going on here. I also have to add that I don't find addition of Jamie Foxx as troubling as some people do. If my memory isn't failing me I think the "big nose / small nose" comment was also in the Bet awards monologue. It might have been unneeded but in my opinion it wasn't that offensive. It was said to embrace Michael regardless of how he looked. One thing I clearly recall is that people (especially on black american predominant forums) was calling Jamie (and some other people) out after they embraced Michael as black because most of these people when Michael was alive was making jokes about his skin color , his lightening etc to the point of calling him a "white woman". In short Jamie Foxx isn't the best person out there to choose but at the same time he's not the worst either.

Autumn, I was just thinking the same exact thing.

What's up with the ticket sales? How many weeks (days) has it been since the tickets officially went on sale? Does anybody remember.

And not just the artist, what about the lighting guy, and the sound-crew and all of the other people who are expecting a paycheck after working on this so-called Tribute.

The Jacksons are gonna want their payday off of the top, everybody else will just have to get in line. The BACK of the line that is. LOL!

Plus, the venue itself will have to be paid for! The crews are no doubt already working on this, and have clocked hours. A "charity event" (which this isn't? Not really?) STILL pays the artists something! These people won't travel all the way to Wales, and WORK, for nothing. So I'd expect considerable expense has already been incurred? I'd also expect that now it's a matter of extreme damage-control, and that there is a bottom-line about how many tickets must be sold just not to lose their shirts?

maybe LaToya should sell her nice brand new car to pay all of these people...:ninja:

Oh Shoot! I just thought of another thing.

Re: travelling to Wales.

Didn't Katherine Jackson's invitation say something about "travelling first class and accommodations." I'm not positive if those were the exact words, but maybe just words to that effect. Does anybody rememeber?

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

Regardless of how much they actually get, how much they even expected is now cut in half right off of the top. With the 2 for offer their profits have been diminished greatly even if they sold every ticket. Then add in the fact that tickets are not selling and it does not seem like it can be very profitable.

Not to mention the embarrassment factor if this HUGE stadium is so empty that crickets can be heard?????

Elusive I edited the post, I was asking how many seats are in row 2, the one that was sold out.

cant say for sure below is from the stadium website and from google for another event someone mentioned having seat 48 for the L10 section which is directly below the m10 section so at least 50. id probably say not much more than that though from my own experience

Each seating block comprises a series of rows. Rows are numbered sequentially upwards starting with number '1' at the bottom of each block. Each row contains numbered seats, the number of seats in a row is dependent on the size of the block. Entry instructions to a ticket holder's seat will be printed on the ticket stating the Gate number, Staircase number (if applicable), Aisle number, Block number and Seat number. The Aisle number determines the entry point to the seating block.
Lower Tier (All Blocks)Rows 1-28
Middle Tier (All Blocks)Rows 1-15
Upper Tier (East, South & West Stands)Rows 1-33
Upper Tier (North)Rows 1-37

so above u can see the amount of rows for each section so u can look on the concert website and see wha trows are been offered. that will give another indication of whats been sold

The best concert ever according to Katherine and nobody want to see it

Report from the FB page, all posts from fans have been deleted. The wall is closed, and people are only able to comment on GLE posts.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

also just done a quick scan of tickets for sale in the upper section which has 33 rows and all but a few of the searches are offering me tickets in the first couple of rows. only if u ask for a large amount in one go u get offered seats in row 13. yet you can still buy tickets in ones, twos and 3's and u get offered row one and two . so each section of the upper section has 33 rows and it looks like they havnt even filled a quater of those rows. and they are the cheapest tickets

Oh, thanks for the information Elusive. I was trying to add up about how much money they made form the Row 2. I continue to hope for minimal sales!!!!!

Ben so they finally had enough of us. I wonder what Hunt will say about that. Didn't he say he was not aware of fans comments being deleted.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

This is the comment they posted after the outraged reaction from fans :

"Hi all, we certainly aren't preventing anyone from having their say, apologies if you feel that way. Hence why we have left comments open. We'll be updating the page with content in the build up to the event and the page is structured so everyone is able to see it. Comments will remain open."
"we haven't removed anyone's right to expression, we don't want to do that. The comments allows you to have your say and we want this page to reflect the true tribute we're having for Michael. This way we are able to have a balanced opinion with those looking forward to the event."

Ah ah.

Thanks for doing all the checking on tickets. It's prob going to be our only accurate indication of how well the sale of seats is going. The half price drop really is MASSIVE and indicates how over-priced they were to begin with. Say tickets originally were average £100 each (didn't GL say somewhere that two thirds of tickets were under £100) they were clearly expecting a £7.5m easy sell-out. Plus tv broadcasting rights (absolutely no idea what this wd bring in - millions?) and all 'charidee' being pledged by eager fans rather than profits.

I'm not even absolutely sure performers were going to be given a formal fee. The tacky invite shown on tmz just mentioned first class travel and expenses. Maybe they thought the allure of a 'hot' concert broadcast round the world would be enticement enough. With the estate control of copyrights, i'm sue they were just hoping to railroad the executors into a corner with the excitement and mementum the concert preparations would generate, esp with leaked news that PPB were packing their bags for wales.

When you look at the whole enterprise you can see why GL and the jacksons thought they were looking at a big easy payday. They should have studied the history of Jermaine's vienna tribute more closely as well as the fans' reactions to jackson family projects post MJ's death.

Re: Michael Forever Tribute/ MJJC Official Statement / Discussion / Estate statement / Fan letter @p

They should have studied the history of Jermaine's vienna tribute more closely as well as the fans' reactions to jackson family projects post MJ's death.

That's the thing that continues to make me scratch my head.

They come up with all of these money grabs, geared towards US, since they are under some FALSE assumption that Michael Jackson's fans are also their fans.

The majority of us don't support them and their continuing nonsense. Didn't they get the memo? Apparently not!
