MJ Estate Statement Re: Justin Bieber Slave To The Rhythm Recording. [Merged]

Re: MJ Estate Statement Re: Justin Bieber Slave To The Rhythm Recording.

The only right way to release this is to release the original song with Michael's vocals only.

Rodney Jerkins has confirmed that he had no involvement in the recording, production or leak of this track.

Jerkins was kind enough to offer me the following insights about the track, which was recorded way back in 1989:

“‘Slave To The Rhythm’ was produced by LA Reid and Babyface. I remember MJ played me that song along time ago. It was originally recorded for the ‘Dangerous’ LP.”

Although Jackson brought the song to Jerkin’s attention during the ‘Invincible’ recording sessions, the pair did not re-work the track and it was not considered for the album.

“He played it for me one day just to see what I thought. I like the song, but what Michael song don’t I like? I love all his music!”

Regarding the newly remixed version, Jerkins recalled Jackson’s views on the style of music used:

“Michael Jackson didn’t like techno music at all.”

In response to the leak The Michael Jackson Estate, via their mouthpiece ‘The MJ Online Team’, have issued the following statement:

“For those who have been asking about the recently posted recording of “Slave 2 The Rhythm” by Michael and Justin Bieber, this recording was not authorized and has been taken down.” – August 16, 2013

It also appears the producer of the track, Max Methods, has addressed the issue via Twitter. IF the account is legit, the DJ stated the following:

Wow.been getting hit up abt this @MichaelJackson Ft. @Justinbieber record all day. I have so much respect for the Jackson Estate and…

— Maxmethods (@MaxMethods) August 17, 2013

it was an honor to work on this record….but its unfortunate that the record leaked before it was ready.

— Maxmethods (@MaxMethods) August 17, 2013

FYI: Until today, the @MaxMethods Twitter account had not posted in more than two years, since February 20, 2011. The account is not verified and only has 268 followers.

Sony Music Entertainment is continuing to work around the clock to remove dozens of video uploads of the track from YouTube.

Which is exactly why the reworked Tricky Stewart MJ solo version should never be released either. Why can't we just get the untouched demo?

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

some positive news:

for those interested (and I guess there are many): the lossless and finished Tricky mix has been leaked (as expected as a reaction to that horrible Bieber mix)
[note: "Main Mix V5" is a fan-made tag!]

source for this great news? *.*

Don't talk about it on the forum. I have nothing to with the leak, it was leaked on some other *cough* remixed *cough* forum.

Or even if they give it a modern production it shouldn't be techno if Michael hated it.

and on mjhideout they already started creating fanmade mixes of this.

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

to me, when i listen to the losless tricky version from 2010, i think the bieber version is created with material from the estate.
this echo effects are much more present in the losless version than on the mp3 that leaked years ago.

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

Okay, here's a theory that just came to mind:

Justin Bieber is signed to Island Def Jam, which is run by L.A. Reid, who recorded Slave to the Rhythm with Michael in 1989. Like many of the producers who worked with him, it is a good chance that Reid still has a copy of the multi track for the original recording. Let's say Reid says one day, "Hey Justin, I have this song I recorded with Michael years ago. Wanna go for a posthumous duet?" Justin says yes, Reid hands over the clean acapella and Justin records his own version. Fast forward some time later. Justin submits his reproduction to the estate asking for permission, they veto it, and he gets pissed off. So what happens? He and/or members of his team anonymously leaks it himself, knowing that it'll create buzz, and bask in the glory that the world finally got to hear a Justin Bieber/Michael Jackson duet.

This just came to mind. Of course the idea that he leaked it himself can be debated, but considering that Rodney Jerkins says he had no involvement, and the estate say it was unauthorized, it's the only other sensible explanation why Justin would get the clean acapella. Thoughts?

the leaked version was a work in progress mix cuz DJ Stolen took it before Tricky's team had it finished

@AlwaysThere: the Bieber mix is using the finished vocal tracks from Tricky's work and is following Tricky's rework, LA Reid could not provide these specific vocal tracks.

I saw that too. it's insane.

Let's look at it from the Beliebers point of view. They've gotten a new song, the first in over 6+ months (a long time for artists nowadays)
It is also their idol singing with his idol, something they are very proud of due to the way Justin started in the music business himself. Naturally, they are going to be excited about the song and love it because of what it is on the preface. Michael Jackson, the world's biggest star, the King of Pop, with someone they believe is the Prince of Pop. So, they are going to love it. Whilst we Michael fans are a little confused as to how/why this came about, we are outraged that someone who we think of lowly is singing with obviously a very talented, respected artist. Which is understandable, of course. But to compare the two tracks is silly, they both are nothing to do with Michael, they only use his voice and it will be something that probably will boost the sales of the next album (if included). I know certain fans won't buy it for whatever reason, but as proved by all releases after 2009, the demand simply isn't there anymore. Bad 25 sold a measly 100k copies I believe. For *new* MJ songs, that is just bizarre. But with less MJ fans buying this new album, Beliebers will buy it. And there are *lots* of them. The album will do very, very well if that song is on it. There's no doubt about it. On top of all the famous people who are linking to the song saying they love it, etc. This buzz hasn't really been around for a long time. It's just a shame it isn't purely Michael getting that buzz anymore. It is huge news in the music world, whether we like it or not. But just remember this, in 2010, they faked Michael's own voice to create more songs. People are liking this song, and it will go down (providing Bieber can have his longevity) better than the fake songs because it isn't as bad. This is not fraud. This is just really a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone who is a big fan themselves. We may not like it, but the rest of the world does/is. That's the way the world works sometimes. But saying a 45+ year legacy will be ruined due to one song? Get real.

Sounds about right.

By the way can anyone provide the lyrics to the song?
I am having trouble understanding some parts.

Uhm, i've been waiting for over 4 years for a new song/album from a band I like very much, so I do not agree with that last part

About those comments praising that shit, (it's not even deserved to be called song) are they f*cking kidding me!? Excuse me while I go to

barf.gif

I agree both things, putting fake songs and this are so disrespectful but I think replacing complete vocals is worse, Michael was robbed and that prick Justin took the credit. With those "fans", why having haters.

I wasn't aware this version we know Michael singing fully was touched. I didn't like the music when I first listened to it but it's great compared by the sacrilege Justin did. We should get the demo, I agree!

ok, you are right. two different versions. gave them a better listen when using an amplifier and the ps3, headphone, digital cable...

the leaked version was before the final version from tricky?
so now we have the leaked compressed mp3 (work in progress), and the losless wav (aif) from the final tricky version? correct.

but...

and what i always wondered is. when i listened to the leaked verions years ago. i recognized at 4.16, center, a dong. i always thought that this is from windows xp, when there is an error, window popup. something like that.
its 100% something that not should be in that track. cause its only one time in there.
and so, why is that 'effect' in both different tracks?

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

But with less MJ fans buying this new album, Beliebers will buy it. And there are *lots* of them. The album will do very, very well if that song is on it.

No Beliebers won't buy the album. They will download this one song and that will be it. They won't care for the rest of the album. At the end of the day MJ Estate/Sony will need MJ fans for the album to sell. But if they'd rather cater to fans of other artists and sh*t on MJ's own fans, that's a very, very short-sighted strategy from them and it will cause a huge backlash on the long term. And Bieber fans may love it, make it trending on Twitter etc. but that doesn't mean it's respectful to MJ as an artist. I'm not one of those people who think the end justifies the mean and the end should be chart success at any price. There is a price that is just simply not worth to pay at the expense of artistic integrity. Justin Bieber? Of all artists out there, Justin Bieber? Is that the level MJ's Estate/Sony rates MJ at? Give me a break!

And if Michael hated techno music then no techno music should be released under his name, period. I realize that there were remixes released on his records while he was alive, but apparently he did not like those either (he told so to fans) and with the exception of the HIStory song no such song was released as a single. He was not a techno artist. And to be honest, considering the lyrics this is not a party song either.

Out of curiosity I checked non-MJ related pop music forums to see what non-fans think of this. A few said they liked it, but more said that they’d love it without Bieber. And the general consensus seemed to be that having Bieber on a MJ song is an insult to Michael. People didn’t seem to know that it’s not an authorized release, and many said that it seems like a desperate ploy for the record company to make money.

Re: Someone's mixed STTR with Bieber / Update: Estate says it is unauthorized and song is taken down

So, can anybody send me a link/PM for the finished Tricky version? :) Very much appreciated.

I was only going by what I'd seen many Justin fans say. But clearly you know more than me on this so that's fine.

ok this dong is a common effect/error. its also on the bieber version at the end, 04.03.
but why the hell is it in there? a windows dong?

Couldn't believe it when I heard this. I remember hearing STTR demo a while back, and now hearing it with Bieber all over it? No, it's awful! Happy the estate have confirmed it's nothing to do with them.
