why is it so?

I guess because the awards weren't really relevant anymore. It was kind of like Black people had their own awards because they weren't really recognized by the mainstream awards shows. Once those barriers began to break down and the Black artists started winning awards and being asked to present and perform at the AMAs and the Grammys they stopped coming to the Soul Train Awards.
