"Now, through the unique stories that will be told about the songs that comprise MICHAEL, fans will get mind-blowing insight into how this artist worked and a chance to hear the songs he most recently created along with tracks that Michael had a desire to bring to fruition."

I wonder if this means they will be posting stories from the other writers and musicians on the website, or in a video webcast series on the website, or in the booklet.

BTW here is a high res shot of the cover

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

^ Thanks White Shadow, I was looking for the HQ one

The artwork is really cool and I do love the "Dangerous" feel to it..That was actually something I was really hoping it had..a cover that you can look at and find something new all every time you look at it

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

Yeah, they totally did ignore the Invincible-present era Michael but the cover for the most part does him justice. The title is cool, Michael but it reminds me of that Ebony MJ dedicated magazine, "Michael, in his own words" but I think naming it after him was the best choice and safest. I hope the new song is good and I cannot wait for OMC vid.

I really like the concept of the cover, the use of bright, warm colors, and the overall complexity of the image. What I don't like, is the pictures itself. Allthough the cover most likely continues to the back of the booklet, it just seems wrong to use a 25 year old picture to market recently recorded material. I can understand the concept of picturing Mike's career throughout the booklet, but why not use the most recent pics on the front, and Thriller/OTW pics in the back?

Imagine a painting along the lines of the Ebony photoshoot; that would in my opinion have made a much better cover. Michael looked amazing throughout every phase of his life. Haters won't buy the album anyway, so why go to such efforts to appease them? This would have been a truely fantastic cover for an album full of Thriller/OTW outtakes. For the new album? Not so much.

I agree with you on the bright warm colors - love it, but have to respectfully disagree on the pics. I am a huuuuge fan of Michael's and I wouldn't like any recent pics of him. Yes, he did look fine on the Ebony photoshoot, but to me Michael always looked his best during the BAD/Thriller era, his worst to me were from 2000 on. But that is just an opinion, and believe me I'm no hater.

I think they just wanted this album to have a massive appeal for everyone, fans and general public. Haters wouldn't buy it no matter what- they wouldn't market this to them anyway. These eras were his most successful and well known eras- when is was loved the most - no controversies if you know what I mean. I believe they did the right thing. I as a fan would like ppl to remember Michael in his heyday when he was on top of the world. He had lost some appeal after all those false allegations unfortunately.

Anyway, I LOOOOVE the cover art and I am sooo excited for the new album I want to burst!! I LOVE YOU MICHAEL!!!

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

That's true. In the 80s people complained Michael looked too feminine on the Bad cover, and people did complain about the Dangerous cover. We're MJ fans. We are not entitled to happiness, only the pursuit :cheeky:[/QUOTE]

LOOOOOL! Funniest thing I read here. Thanks.

Human nature's a bish.

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

You know...in my opinion, covers like these would be much better options than what's currently set to take the stage. These fan made covers are simple, yet classy...AND Mike looks really good in them...I mean really good :D.
I really wish they would have picked something similar to these!

These look sooooooo much better, way more appealing, (IMO) :clapping:

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

In the short term those fanmade covers are fine and dandy but the cover they have chosen is a great work of art, and in 10, 20 years time will still look great. It reflects on iconic moments in MJ's career. Not all his moments but a good portion of them. Much like the Dangerous cover, people will question it and judge it, but in years down the track it will be remembered as one of MJ's many great album covers. And, MJ loved these types of art as he organized to have a LOT of them made over the years!

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

I have been trying to let the cover art grow on me but it's not working I just keep shaking my head in the end.. It's like they took the magic from "Dangerous" away. I thought they atleast come up with something new & magical. But I just wanna hear the music cause that is where Michael will be at atleast 99%

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

It just does not look very current.

Sony Asia executive said in a mail:

Dear All,
I did listen to some of the new tracks from this forthcoming new album during my Miami meeting. I would say the quality of these new tracks are great and far beyond my expectation. Therefore, I urge you all to well prepared on this new release in order to give it a BIG BANG on both physical or digital release. Thank you.

ALSO, the cover they have chosen will be talked about. There is a lot of detail there for people to look into and wonder about. That STILL works for the Dangerous album. This will be more of the same. And I imagine it will create interest in his past works like Captain EO and Moonwalker and those kinds of things, as new fans will want to find out "what video is THIS picture from" etc. Because as any obsessed fan knows; you're not BORN knowing every little detail about MJ. And for new fans, the cover WILL raise questions and fans WILL research it to find out the answers. And that IS good for MJ's legacy and exposing his historic work to the masses.

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

It just does not look very current.

Exactly, that's the vibe I'm getting from it too.
It looks a bit...well..."old-fashioned". If there will be
"current" music on the album, then I think the cover should look "current" too.
At first glance, it looks like something that would have been done in the 80's or 90's (yeah, like Dangerous). I guess I'm trying to say is that it's a little misleading. I keep on feeling like it won't match the music. We'll find out. Still hasn't grown on me though, and I don't think it will.

New Michael Jackson album gets December release

Reuters, Nov 4, 2010 8:49 pm PDT

A new album of previously unheard Michael Jackson songs will be released on December 14, the first such release since the pop star died last year, his Sony Music label said on Thursday. Called simply "Michael," the album marks the latest commercial venture by Jackson's estate since the "Thriller" singer succumbed to a fatal overdose of prescription drugs in June 2009, aged 50.
But apart from revealing the album's title, regal artwork, and the name of one track, "Breaking News," Sony Music is keeping a firm lid on the project.
A spokeswoman declined to say how many tracks were on the album, reveal any other song titles, or indicate the extent of production work that was done after Jackson's death.

The secrecy follows an embarrassing debacle last year when "This Is It," a new Jackson single touted as his first posthumous release, turned out to have been first recorded 18 years earlier under a different title by an obscure Puerto Rican singer. The song's co-writer, Paul Anka, threatened to sue Jackson's estate and was quickly assigned half the copyright.
Jackson's commercial fortunes were on the wane long before his death, though grieving fans turned him into one of the biggest selling artists last year. His last studio album, "Invincible," was a commercial and critical disappointment in 2001. But a posthumous concert film and related soundtrack album, both also called "This is It," topped the worldwide charts last November.

Sony said "Breaking News" was recorded at a friend's place in New Jersey in 2007 and "recently brought to completion." Beginning next Monday, it will be streamed for one week on the www.michaeljackson.com website.
Other tracks were recorded at studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with various unidentified collaborators, Sony Music said. At the time of his death, Jackson was reported to be working with contemporary hitmakers like R&B star Akon and Lady Gaga collaborator RedOne.

The album cover artwork features two naked cherubs placing a crown on Jackson's head against a mural depicting the singer throughout his career. It was created by painter Kadir Nelson.

The executors of Jackson's estate have been busy extracting value from the singer's catalog, both to pay off his debts and to provide for his mother and children. Other projects in the works include a Jackson-themed Cirque du Soleil tour that will open in Montreal next October, and a dance videogame due in stores later this month.

Re: The Official New Album Thread -MICHAEL Release date Dec 14th

new fans will want to find out "what video is THIS picture from"

That happened already on HIDEOUT at least, when someone asked what was the robotic face in the sky, referring to the MOONWALKER robot.
