Question: Weren't the BG vocals recorded at the Cascios and they used a demo take for WBSS 2008?

Can I ask what's BG?

I know I'm a little slow when MJ songs are referred to in shorter ways.

@OnirMJ Didn't Will.I.Am say that if Michael's mother ask's him he will release the songs?

I don't like how he thinks that he's all that, and he would not be able to release them unless the estate/Sony approves them right?

Just watched some rehearsals from TII.

Of course it's not the same as it sounds on a record and he's rehearsing, but for example 2.44-2.59 is sooo Michael. Sounds almost the same as when he was a lot younger (or did they use older material in this part?) And a bit later in the video the footage on the right (23rd June) is just...aww...Michael in his element.

And when you hear him sing in TII, and at the same time dancing and running around, it's even more obvious to me that it just can't be him on the Cascio tracks.

@adki: BG is Blue Gangst(a/er) I think.

No that part was not dubbed as far as I know. I agree that they are very good vocals! :)

Since we are talking about Michael's voice and the changes in it: I did some comparisons a year or so ago when I was thinking about the way his voice evolved between Thriller and Dangerous/HIStory. I definitely think that MJ's voice changed in that period, but I think a lot of it is due to the fact that he started singing in that more gritty style. If you listen to his voice on some of his ballads, the only difference really is that his voice got a bit deeper.

If you take, for instance, Someone in the Dark and pitch it down a bit, it sounds just like Dangerous era Michael to me:
http://www.mediafire.com/?8g90845c8t62tb3 (pitched version first, original second)

Or, similarly, Scared of the Moon:
http://www.mediafire.com/?aod80qn9vpc156p (again, pitched version first, original second)

I do not remember exactly, but it was less than one semitone.

@Pentum and others regarding the voice.

I have read that with age singer's voice bonifies as long as the singer regularly trains it. So, it is not Michael Jackson who sounds younger in 2008, he simply was able to keep his voice from his young age and on top of that push the limits further than when he was younger.

He was perfectly able to sing with his gritty and low voice (Privacy, We've Had Enough, Escape,..) as with his falsetto and higher pitched voice (Speechless, Butterflies, ...)

With this said, MJ was also able to sing with his lower voice already in the 70s (end of You Can't Win in The Wiz), in the 80 (WBSS, Human Nature, Billie Jean, ...) and especially extra ad-libs on the extended version of Leave Me Alone, and on the song Get It.

In the 90s it almost bcame a habit: Dangerous, WYWTOM, beginning of Will You Be There, Who Is It, some parts on Can't Let Her Get Away,... Money, 2000Watts, Privacy, ...

That explains why his voice regains some of that "sass" from his 80s days during the Beat It rehearsal in This Is It (which I'm watching right now). After Bad, he never really accessed that kind of singing style often, at least to my recollection. It pretty much stayed inside the 80s (or in this case, 80s songs).

Michael's voice changed in some ways as he got older but whatever he sang, you still know it's Michael. Except the Cascio tracks of course which sound nothing like him.

Lol, no...thank you! Good thing you asked. When I read BG I think of Blue Gangster or Barry Gibb (BeeGee)

Thank you for thanking him.

Adki, thank you as well, because without having thanked Chamife, she wouldn't have posted this post. Thank you.

Hmm, interesting. I've heard about that too, but the vocals used in the demo is from 1 take and that take is not from 2007 from what I know. So the 2007 vocals must be unheard then.

It could be they recorded the song in 1997 then decided to add a few things on the song & freshen it up in 2007 maybe...

Am I the only one who thinks Michael sounds sort of younger in the 08 version? It's obvious that he is trying out a new style on the vers (no, seriously), yet he sounds younger. It's almost like Michael first sounded young, then got mature, then started to sound younger in a different way (where am I going with this :S)

Check out: http://soundcloud.com/pentummj/you-love-to-pretend-that-youre

that sounds cool to have them back to back, good idea. There's something about older michael's voice that i just like more.

When he got older, he was better (or maybe just more creative?) with his phrasing, and then, of course, better at the "angry mike" grittiness. it's like sharper too. ugh, i don't know, i can't really put it in words but it's better. somehow real-er.

There's lots of commonalities between older MJ and younger MJ (obvi, b/c they're the same person). But the biggest, most important commonality is the soul. The soul is always there, you can always hear it, and it never changes. Not since the first day he opened his mouth. Can you feel it? You feel it.

anyway, i don't hear this other-worldly perfection in the cascio tracks. and it ain't because of processing.

He was a member of MaxJax and maybe other forums, and if I were him, I'd be like: "Come on guys, what are you talking about?". That's not me!". I would try to clear all the doubts with my fellow MJ-fans and join in on the discussion of the voice and songs. And then after I would have explained myself, there would be no reason for me to stay away from the Web or any forum.

But again, If I were him.

This silence does feel strange to me.

But nobody was mocking him/her. We are saying just "hi" hoping that one day he/she joins our conversation :)

p.s. It would be funny to see who would be able to make him talk first after so many months of lurking :D
