Michael - The Great Album Debate

^^ Yeah, it's pretty incredible that no matter that none of us have ever met or knew each other, but we all felt the same...So many fans shared the exact same feelings and sentiments....I was just very surreal, as you said....And very vivid, I remember exactly how I felt....It was a tough week, actually...

The Estate's statement really did feel like a blow to the head....I remember being eager to see this statement and when I read it, I was like, 'Well, that didn't change anything at all! What am I supposed to get out of this?'...I was insulting, really....

I liked and still like the beat of Breaking News. As a foundation for a track it is not bad and I thought it worked well as a teaser. But I find the vocal melody terrible, and the song really goes nowhere after the big 'aooow'.

Totally agree with you right here. I liked the teaser. But then, the song went downhill when the vocal meloday starts. I'm not even talking about the lyrics, but just the composition of the song.

Wow, the BN thread is really sad. So many attacks against the Jackson family, like "I am grateful that [Michael] didn't live to see his entire family betray him" and so forth.

But I thought the same way then. I thought, please Jacksons, Sony would never release faked songs ... why would you make such hilarious claims...

There is something about Roger Friedman though. It seems he started the "3T is jealous, because Mike wouldn't record with them"-thing. He also was the first to report the Cascio songs. He was also the first to call them "very strong" etc.

What does he have to gain?

Exactly! It's like, you KNOW when Michael was heavily involved in a song, or even just a little bit...His presence on a song is not just about the vocals, but the entire feeling and experience of the song....It's there....But, not in the Cascio songs...I know a lot of people say that the lyrics/composition and vocals are two totally different things, which they are, but when it comes to MJ, it's the totality of the whole experience, you know? So, I think it's very relevant to question everything...

Agree with you too. To me, listening to a Michael Jackson song is like taking this incredible journey with him as if he takes me to the mountain top, stays there to enjoy the moonlight then takes me back home. It's a total experience. I guess that's the reason I prefer his elaborate and ambitious works, such as WYBT and HIStory...

What the song Breaking News lacks is such progression. There's no climax. Or, the climax took place too soon in the intro.

Yes, I totally agree....My boyfriend even said something similar, and he's not a hardcore fan or anything...But he was listening to Beat It, for example, and he was commenting that even after the guitar solo, Mike gave 'er shit lol...He said, 'You know, with other rock songs, the singer will 'calm down' so to speak after the guitar solo, close to the end of the song...But not Michael...he keeps giving and giving and giving, even more power and pushes through even more until the end of the song'....In a nutshell, he described it as one last acceleration until he's done the song...He was quite amazed at that, and I completely agree with him...

I just listened to BN in full the first time since november.
Guess what. It's clearer than ever that it's someone else. Completely different timbre.
Listening to real MJ songs for half a year and exclude the excitment for new MJ stuff ... and it's very very easy.

Many initially thought it was MJ because a) they couldn't accept the possibility of fakes and b) they were extremely excited.

I'm guilty of listening to only MJ (I don't listen to others the way I listen to Michael. I mean I really LISTEN to MJ.) And I agree with you that the difference between the Cascio tracks and the genuine MJ songs is more than obvious.

Yeah, I got the same feeling a few weeks ago when I was listening to the album in the car....I decided to put Monster on for curiosity sake, and I was literally, 'Who the hell is this, and why is he on an MJ album?' ...I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...Needless to say, I ended up with tears welling up in my eyes and immediately shut it off and put BTM on to cheer me up...

Before the whole "opinions-farce" started (sorry, but that's what it is IN MY OPINION :D), people were allowed to express their feeling more directly. For example Senior Staff Member Lorraine. Since I completely agree but better not write it myself, I'm gonna quote her:

I don't wanna get angry here..

But anyone that can seriously listen to that and believe it is Michael singing, Does not know Michael's voice.

It's quite funny actually when you think about it: Sony threw some money right into the trash, since I highly doubt they ever dare to release any more Cascio tracks. They bought 10-12 songs, befouled Michaels legacy with 3 and can put the rest up their ***.

^^ Absolutely! I totally agree...I refuse to use a disclaimer 'in my opinion'...Of course, it's in my opinion, I shouldn't have to clarify....It's the result of people becoming too sensitive...But, in reality, if I'm having a conversation in person with someone, there's never a need to say, 'in my opinion' EVERY single time I want to state something...It's ridiculous, I find...

EDIT: :lmao: at your last comment, Grent...although, i'd SHOVE the rest up their a$$ :D

:D I'm willing to help ! :D

I got another one:

Hahahahaha, you should be banned. "Got proof that this is not Michael?" GOD! JUST LISTEN TO IT! THE VINRATION, PRONOUNCING, HEE HEES, EVERYTHING!

IT.IS.NOT.MICHAEL JACKSON! GO AWAY!

:) This was when it was all about what we listened to. No lame excuses or legal issues yet.

Haha, I know what you mean. It has become second nature for me and I'm sure many of you to tag on "in my opinion/imo/personally, I believe that" to every sentence when participating in this debate. Although I think it has sometimes been taken a bit too far, I do understand why moderators have pushed for this. Debates got really heated. The topic itself is already extremely polarizing, and directly expressed, strong opinions seemed to only increase this. Some people just have an extremely short fuse when it comes to this issue.. they shouldn't, but I can understand why the moderating team wanted to try something to calm things down. As long as people are still allowed to freely express their opinion (though perhaps in a more restrained manner than they'd like to), it's alright imo :)P)

So true. Actually, people are very sensitive on opinions on the Cascio tracks or on everything related to the new project. Any slightly unfavorable opinion is perceived as trashing. It's like one can't say the Estate does a bad job.
