Michael - The Great Album Debate

Remember when all we had to worry about was when the announcement was coming? :sigh:

:lmao: If people want some good laugh, people should go to the archive and read the posts from June 2010 to Thanksgiving 2010.

First, it's around June 25 :)boohoo:), no announcement.

Then, it's around August 29, no announcement..

Then, it's after Labor Day (people took days off during summer), still no announcement...

Mobs can't wait to kill SM 05....

Now, looking back, the whole chain of event was actually comical...

^^ LOOOL ....I soooo wanna go back and read some posts....I can't believe we were waiting from June to November...That's some crazy waitin'

Oh yeah... the wait was torturing. I was so looking for Thanksgiving (rumor had it that the album would be released before Turkey Day) last summer. I was counting days.

The Cascio tracks, back then, were said to be the best works Michael had done. Sigh... I could never ever imagine the tracks turned out the way they turned out...

I can't find the posts from that thread. Can anyone send a link, I'd also like to read back some posts

I wasn't here back then. Sounds insane.

I remember going on to the Breaking News site when the preview came out. I hadn't heard anything about the controversy, just knew new Michael Jackson was coming.

I could not stop smiling when I heard the preview, it was incredible and I lit up and was so excited.

I was so excited to hear the new song and my heart sank immediately when Jason Malachi started singing.

I knew something was wrong right away but I also tried to started rationalizing it right away. ("It's gotta be him... :(")

Such bad memories. I'm reading through it (again). It's really, really interesting. Everyone loved the BN teaser, discussing it, how fresh it sounded. People saying how stupid TMZ and the Jackson family is for saying fake stuff is coming.

Then, when the song goes online, people just can't understand what the hell is going on. Two pages after (30 pages per page), people are saying it's Jason Malachi.

One of my first posts in that thread, lol...
No.

It is Jason Malachi.

Random comment by me in the thread xD
Funny how I this night dreamt that the song was fake and a woman sung from Russia.

One of my "serious posts" from that thread. (Just to show how not stressed I was and how I didn't take any rumour for granted by anyone back then):

1st of September,

I imagine the journalist: a green trainee unsure of himself and with a serious lack of knowledge hesitating with his pencil and rubber eraser over a piece of rough sheet of paper on which he attempts to write a half-baked article.

He could have probably written something like this:

-After his first solo album "BAD" (a song about a rat), Michael Jackson surprises everyone with his smashing hit album "OFF WE GO" in 1979 produced by Grace Jones. The real surprise, however, came out with his next album "KILLER" in 1983 (also produced by G. Jones) accompanied by the masterpiece video with his red jacket in a cafe bar where two gangs confront each other.
In 1985 Michael writes a song with Lionel Wealthy "Africa for U.S.A." similar to the song "Feed the World" from the 1991 album "DANCEROUS".
In 1987 Michael surprises us again with his smashing album "BEN" (I'm Ben, I'm Ben, ... Who's Ben?)
After "DANCEROUS", Michael comes back with "HISTERY" album.
Finally, in 2001 we get "INVISIBLE".

And la crème de la crème, after several best ofs and the soundtrack of the last musical "THAT'S IT", the fans are eagerly awaiting a brand new album rumoured to be called "THE FEATURE". The album will come out sooner or later and will feature Will Smith, Kenny Krawitch and John Branca.

The first single will probably be the duet with Kenny Krawitch "Another Part of Day".

I am looking sooo much forward to see the cover they will use for this album.

If it is anything like the KOP or #1 covers it will be sooo dissapointing IMO. It has to be something like Dangerous, mystic and adventure - Pure Michael.

Don't worry about the cover, it can't be worse than this:

@Arklove, I wasn't looking for this thread, but the take 1 of this thread which had been locked. Can you find it back? I'd like to re-read some puns :p

I did...right after lol ;)

hahahaha...Pentum, I didn't know you then, and I remember you said from the get go that it was Jason Malachi, and I was pissed...I was like, 'why is he saying Jason Malachi?...It's obviously not Michael, but why does it have to be Malachi?'

Do you remember when I posted an imaginary dialogue between SC05 and his source at SONY? It is in the locked thread, I hope I can find it back. :D

I don't know where that thread is...It's archived, whereas this one is in the immortal section...I'm not sure what the thread is called...

That dialogue with SC05 that you did is in this thread I posted here...It's in the first 75 pages or so, I think....I read it :D :lmao: And, yeah, you got some enemies after that one lol

Found it! Page 50, post #737....I don't know how to quote it in here

And then the obsession with Jason Malachi started. The obsession that is about to end... :p

I just copy/pasted Bumpy's post :D :lmao:

Yeah that one, thanks :lmao:

It's interesting how there were already people saying that something was wrong with Breaking News after the first 40 second snippet was released, based on the 'aoooow' (some were even saying it wasn't Michael's voice). Personally I thought the timing on the 'aoooow' was a bit odd (that's Eddie's button-pushing skills for ya), but it was clearly Michael's voice to me. I mainly remember being annoyed that they ended the teaser exactly at the point where he'd start to sing , but also being so excited. I had that snippet on repeat so much.

Had there already been reports/tweets about the tracks being fake when that first teaser was released? I remember that the posters who questioned the 'aoooow' were dismissed as a couple of nutters/troublemakers at that time. Ironic, given that the sampled 'aooow' turned out to be the least of the problems with Breaking News and the Cascio tracks...

I was the exact same as you when we first heard that teaser...The scream was definitely Michael's, so of course, no way we could tell the vocals were fake at that point...But, yeah, I was excited for it..

I have no idea about the tweets, though....I basically just heard people on the forum talking about it, but I just brushed it off, I didn't know the details....I just thought it was a bunch of bull...

Hey guys. Long time, no see.

So... Cascios, eh? No matter the outcome, fake or not, Eddie betrayed him.

Same here. I heard some rumblings, but did not really pay much attention to the tweets, as I thought it was just jibberish along the lines of 'MJ was using body doubles in TII'. I got the impression that most people took it that way at the time.

^^ Yeah, and then when I finally heard the vocals, I was like, 'WTF is this??? Maybe they were right!' But as I said before, I refused to believe this whole 'fake' thing....I didn't even want to admit to myself that I was hearing a totally different person...I struggled to hear Michael after that...I listened over and over again, analyzing the vocals, and I just didn't hear him...:( I heard BN when it premiered at 10 pm for me, and I didn't sleep for the rest of the night...I was a zombie at work the next day...It was just disturbing...I can't believe how it affected me...:(

And then after the rest of the songs were leaked, one by one, I was losing faith...

Yup... I really don't think people pay much attention to the tweets. I know I didn't. I honestly don't remember whether I heard about the tweets before or after the premiere of Breaking News.

The irony is that I actually loved the teaser. I replayed the teaser so many times with anticipation of what's to come. But, even back then, some people could already smell something's not right. Some said the strings sounds "cheap". Some said the "aoow" sounds odd. Some mentioned how the spoken intro was not layered the way Michael would have.

In a way, the Breaking News teaser was probably the greatest marketing strategy for the album, because it got so many people hyped to hear the song... Why couldn't they continue that great strategy in order to boost sales! But I was just like love, always replaying the teaser because it was so out-of-this-world. The static build-up made you feel like this was the beginning of a new era. Personally, I don't want to be in this era where questionable vocals make it onto the albums of the greatest entertainer EVER.

Thanks, love :p They're my favourite piece of eye-wear!

When I first heard the teaser, I thought the looooooong tabloid journalist intro was a little extreme...I was like, well, first of all, Mike's done this already with Tabloid Junkie, but BN's intro was just way too long...It bothered me...Just didn't seem like something Michael would do - repeat that type of thing, and have it so long...Weird....But, I didn't think much else of it...I thought the song was catchy from what I was hearing.....

Then when we heard the whole song, and I was hearing 'because I'm Michael Jackson' over and over again, yet not sounding like Michael Jackson was even more disturbing...I thought it was strange, but I kept it in the back of my mind...The vocals were what stood out to me, of course, but even in the earlier stages, I was disappointed with the song...I thought it was catchy, but VERY mediocre and boy-band poppish....Even Michael, when doing a 'pop' song, always made the song unique and I've never heard a pop song of his sound this mediocre and boy-bandish....I just had all that in the back of my mind, and then I started to see that others felt the same as me about the actual composition and style of the song...

Yeah, what a crappy day it was indeed. Must have been one big 'WTF' resonating around the world when that song premiered. For me the song premiered in the morning. Wasn't a very productive day after that, to say the least... Still, after the initial surprise, I remember feeling really angry, but still hopeful that it was a mistake that could and would be changed. That is, until the Estate released its statement. That was the proverbial dagger.

The idea that this could happen is still hard to grasp now, but I remember it felt almost surreal at the time. So weird and aggrevating.

Yeah, I also felt that it was a bit strange. But I mainly just thought it was a bit of a weird choice by Sony/the Estate to use an anti-tabloid track as the first song people would hear, as we had heard reports that Michael wanted to move away from those types of songs.

I agree! I liked and still like the beat of Breaking News. As a foundation for a track it is not bad and I thought it worked well as a teaser. But I find the vocal melody terrible, and the song really goes nowhere after the big 'aooow'.
