Michael - The Great Album Debate

as you know today the video shot of hollywood tonight is making the news rounds. The below is one of the sites that's reporting the video news.

--------------
Personally, our choice for the next single off Michael Jackson’s posthumous collection of unreleased tunes Michael (you didn’t forget about that one already, did you?) would have been the menacing synth jam “Monster.” Alas, maybe the powers that be felt Lady Gaga already has a corner on all things monstrous? Anyway, production on the video for MJ’s Teddy Riley-produced song “Hollywood Tonight” is underway. Head below to watch dancers pulling their best Jackson moves out for the clip.

Hate to say it, but “Hollywood Tonight” really isn’t the best choice for a single. In addition to the chorus lacking, well, actual thought-out lyrics (other than “she’s going Hollywood, she’s going Hollywood tonight…”), the vocal is so digitally enhanced—likely due to the fact that the original demo available was very minimal—it barely sounds like it’s Michael singing.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

No I am positive it was in the beginning and it was instead of Akon. I guess Michael did it for Akon.

If Akon is reading my post please confirm :D

I am wasting my time all over youtube now searching for that demo.

Youtube bots delete Michael Jackson songs occasionally if they sound too much like Jason Malachi. Or something like that.

Shows how little journalists know about music. There's an old adage, "If you can't do it, write about it."

Neil McCormick believes the 'Michael' album is Michael Jackson's best album since the 80s. Point proven.

This joke of a reviewer questions the lyrics of Hollywood Tonight while pushing the lyrical masterpiece that is 'Mama say mama got you in a zig zag'? Pathetic.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

It just shows that different people question different things. and there have been and still there are people who question vocals on hollywood tonight - no one gone far to say it's fake / imposter but saying "doesn't sound like him"/ "sounds different" is not that uncommon.

And yet he thought Monster would be a better choice.

I must hear this alternate version of HMH or I will go insane.

More insane I mean.

Anna I am sorry to disappoint you right now, but I swear as soon as I find it I'll upload it.

The version that leaked was not long before the BN streaming. There were even discussion fearing that "konvict music" would be on the final cut. Luckily it didn't. However on youtube I heard a version where Michael sang the line. I can't find it back now. At that time I thought it was going to be easy to find it back.

Ivy :/ why post this? bringing Hollywood Tonight into the discussion is more trouble than it's worth.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

^Ivy, whose quote did you post? You know the person who wrote the article may be biased.

I don't see how Hollywood lacks a chorus, the song lacks a bridge though; hence came Taryll's spoken words.

The lyrics are not bad. I thought "Westbound Greyhound to the tinssel town to pursue her movie star dream. She's giving hot tricks to men just to get in. She's taught that that's not clean." is brilliant.

Each to his own!

No worries. But if you do ever find it, that'll be awesome. :D

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Hollywood Tonight does not sound different! It sounds exactly the same as the voice on "Why You Wanna Trip On Me" or "Privacy". Oh wait a minute, journalists and critics have forgotten the existence of those songs or have maybe never heard them. End of discussion.

Let's move on.

You're talking about a writer who is criticising Hollywood Tonight for it's lyrical content while at the same time pushing for 'Monster' ('Mama say mama got you in a zigzag', 'They eat your soul like a vegetable') to be released.

If you want to promote a writer of that ilk, that's your prerogative.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Here's how EXACTLY your opinion changed. Again.

Wow... you really should have a word with yourself. Because you're confusing me, if no one else.

What does that mean though? Where has my opinion changed, like the post said, and like I said a mere few pages ago, I've always felt it was Michael on the records. Like I said, my opinion was merely reinforced when your fellow doubters, began to alter the pitches on songs like All I Need, and claim it was the "original version" to benefit their own argument. I've also said I felt some of these songs had questionable filling, some of these songs ie. Monster. Which I initially said when the song initially leaked, I deliberately said I felt "runnin, and your runnin" was filled in by someone else. So again I ask you, what are you attempting to clutch at, sir?

I keep going back to the 'ears' part. I don't need evidence to confirm something my ears already tell me! I've never seen any evidence of MJ's involvement on Keep The Faith or Slave To The Rhythm - but I know it's him!

It keeps coming back to what we're hearing.

But those who say they trust their ears and hear Michael on the Cascio tracks, are basically told they're wrong and their opinion is meaningless. Now, what exactly is the difference here?

This still hasn't been answered yet, by the way.

Robbie Daw from Idolator. Again it wasn't about discussing Hollywood Tonight. It was just about a past point that people saying HT sound "different".

Once again if you READ my post you'll see that my point has nothing to do with comparing Hollywood Tonight to Monster. It's solely about how people aren't happy and in some instances even doubtful with other vocals from other songs. And believe me if you take time to read what I'm saying you'll have the less need to start unfounded arguments. and it will be more peachy here.

"Move on"? This is a debate thread, no one will move on, just will go around and around and around, till it becomes a great balls of fire. HIT IT....

ok fair enough, i was just worried it might cause an Argument :) rather than a debate, cause when hollywood tonight gets questioned, eyes roll and hair is pulled out :p

I don't know how familiar Robbie Daw is with Michael's music. If he is familiar with Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible, he should be albe to tell Hollywood Tonight is not different.

But, I remember your musician friends who are fans of Michael muscially also have problem with HT. So, I don't know.

I guess different people do hear different things.

yeah you are probably right. I just realized in an environment where most of the posts even isn't read properly, it's probably a lot of wishful thinking to hope that people will remember a past discussion topic.

Let me say a HUGEEE thank you. :clapping: That was the whole point.

I READ what you WROTE. I was putting the writers opinion into context, ie. Anyone who thinks Monster is lyrically better than Hollywood Tonight either has serious problems with their hearing or has no idea what they're talking about. Either way, their opinion on the legitimacy of the vocals, therefore, means nothing to me.

guys let's stick to the topic at hand and let's not insult one another

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I still demand public apologies from Worldwide! Cleaning the thread won't help. I can't stand equalling the aggressor and the victim.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I think Hollywood Tonight is a much better choice than Monster as long as they remove that awful spoken part, which I'm thinking they must have.. there's no way people would like that. That spoken part is worse than all of the Cascio tracks combined.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Thanks sam, i did have a good giggle there. Hope the vids are posted far and wide again soon.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Okay, there are obvoulsy someone reporting comparison videos.

My first comparison video uploaded on dailymotion 3 months ago was always one of the videos that popped up when googling Jason Malachi. Now it's not and I logged in, and it's been removed. That means someone did really report it.

Anyway, I'll upload all videos I have now, mjjesamor!
