Michael - The Great Album Debate

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

I think that, of course, like every artist I've ever listened to in the history of music, age is going to change the way they sound.

To that extent?

So there is clearly a huge anachronysm there, as he also sounds as usual on other tracks. Explain that.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

The fact that right now you two are joking around about Borat makes you look really mature and smart, let me tell you.

And to what extent? I don't think he sounds very different. If I did I'd think it was Jason Malachi or someone else, wouldn't I?

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

 Typical response...

How about you post a picture of Michael when he's nearly 30 years older, hunched over with a mic and ask that question? Then it'll be a little more relevant to the discussion.

Then, I'll be the mic stand. Whew... Dirty Diana comes to mind...

With your teeth? :ninja:

Don't think I'll work fast enough with my teeth. I'll unbuckle the last one with my teeth... :ninja:

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Worldwide has admitted to hacking his email account on here.
Worldwide does seem to share the same 'sense of humour' and habit of contradicting himself as the 'hacker' that posted the messages on Malachi's facebook....
Well worldwide?

I contradict my self? lawl thanks for the laugh. The facebook and website thing was for a laugh, the doubters had a field day saying "ha I told you so" then when you found out you were trolled, that was wicked!

Then, I'll be the mic stand. Whew... Dirty Diana comes to mind...

Dirty Diana, nooooo

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

It was immediately obvious from the instant that the facebook message was posted, it was fake.

So, you attributed the difference in the Cascio tracks to age; although, the vocals in Best of Joy sounds almost identical to the vocals in SPYHO?

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Sure, I love Best Of Joy.

Different to the extent that audiologists had to analyse the vocals

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Marvin Gaye 40 + years old...sitting down and lying down whilst still sounding freakin awesome and still like Marvin Gaye. It seems sitting down and being older only makes Michael Jackson sound like somebody else! Enjoy the video btw.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Sure, I love Best Of Joy.

Sure, I adore Best of Joy. What I'm trying to say is that Michael, at 50 years of age, sounded amost identical to what he used to 20 years earlier. Of course, there is a difference. Gone was the youthful tone; however, his voice became more soulful and soothing.

You may say age plays a factor; which I don't deny. But, all these years of experience just let Michael improve as a vocalist. The way he sang Human Nature in TII rehearsal is probably my favourite version. I can only imagine what he would sound if he went all out.

Age didn't break his voice. His voice is like a bottle of wine. It got better. So, I don't think age is the reason for the difference in the Cascio tracks.

Did you have to mention the mic stand and DD? My weakness.....:heat:

I hardly think joking around labels me as immature....Gimme a break and stop taking yourself so damn seriously...

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

That's because the vocals obviously sounded different than normal. This is definitely an odd recording session. I have a feeling that Michael did these songs for fun and for safety. I think he had a fast worth ethic because he felt he needed to be working. I don't know if, during the moment he recorded them, his whole heart was in it, where his mind was at, etc. You know what I mean?

What I know is that when you record in a space like that, your voice is going to be bouncing all over the place, it's going to sound really strange. It can sound really cool, but that's not the effect they want on a FINALIZED STUDIO MASTER RELEASE. You understand? They dont want his voice to sound all echoy and bouncing all around throughout the entire record. They want to copy the sound that he had from his previous albums.

When you listen to Stay, there are a lot of parts where you can hear his vocals being really echo-y in places, which they obviously just left in for the cool sound. When he says "She was my baby" you can hear what the vocals kind of sound like, although they're probably much worse than that. Who knows what is processed and what isn't.

I've mixed my own vocals so many times and I know how easy it is to make a voice sound artificial or make one wrong tweak and it sounds different. Michael Jackson's voice doesn't sound like a completely different person on these tracks. He doesn't sound like Jason Malachi or anyone else. It's Michael Jackson, but you can tell that there's an effect over it that is bizarre to the ears because it's very artificial.

That's my opinion.

I don't think his voice was affected THAT MUCH by his age, however I think there were days where that definitely came into play. I think with a little bit or work, Michael Jackson had such an amazing voice that he could always get it back to sounding perfect.

That doesn't mean that he didn't have more off days in 2007 than in 2009. In 2009 we constantly heard reports that he had lost his voice and was very frustrated that he couldn't hit the notes he used to. I think this is very likely.

Just because he can sing I Just Can't Stop Loving You and Human Nature, or a verse in WBSS doesn't mean he can still sing like he used to.

@Arklove  Are you still upset that I told samhabib that a couple days ago? I don't take myself very seriously, I just think it's strange that BUMPER and love is magical randomly keep going back to their little online flirting thing.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Completely damning video of Jason Malachi sounding exactly the same as the singer on Keep Your Head Up. What a prick!

Uhmm we were flirting in trio, Arklove included.:naughty:

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

If Michael did record these songs while sitting in the shower does that mean that his favorite rubber ducky named Quackers did some backing vocals also?

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

^^Aniram, you wanna startin' somethin'? i'll start a "little on-line flirting thing" with you too... let's get ivy to play as well... the more the merrier:cheeky:

Here we are. It always raises it's head. Different than normal. But, somehow, still the same. Incredible.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

So, let me get this straight. For you to believe that Michael Jackson is himself, he always has to sound perfect? He can't have an off day?

"An" yes. But 12?

I thought he recorded with them for 'months' and not just 'one day'? Which one is it? Are you going to try and claim he had an off-quarter-of-a-year???

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

We haven't heard all 12, though. For all we know, these songs could be from a particular day. I don't find it to hard to imagine a week or so when MJ hasn't properly tweaked his voice to be perfect and would just record for the hell of it, if only to get something down.

He stayed at the Cascios for months, he probably recorded these pretty fast. I doubt their sessions lasted months.

And even if it were true, I doubt Michael meant to release them and sell them to SONY.

Let's take a break from our little on-line flirting and talk about my baby, shall we?

I'm not saying Michael always sang like what he used to. What I want to say is that age didn't deteriorate his singing skills. The way he held a note and the way he phrased should be quite consistent.

In the Cascio tracks (Monster and Stay in particular), I feel like the vocalist struggled in keeping up with the beats. Is it due to "over-processing"? May be...

In the line Donald referred to all the time, "they are running and running just to escape it", I feel the singer is trying to catch up. This definitely doesn't sound like Michael Jackson to me. Michael could always sing in fast speed articulately.

Re: Michael - The Great Album Debate (Only Go Here if You Want To Continue The Controversy)

Release them in that state? of course not, no MJ vocals are releasable if they need Melodyne in order to make them polished. Sell the song in terms of lyrics and a more polished performance? If he was on good terms with them as is reported, then I could imagine it. With some filler vocals replaced, I could imagine him perfecting "Monster" and releasing that on a hypothetical album.
