Michael - The Great Album Debate

This whole thing was started when three songs were included on an album which sound nothing like Mj, do not have any of his vocal characterstics, sound identical to Jason Cupeta and share all his vocal characteristics (vibrato, accent, pronounciation etc), are not supported by any evidence that Michael ever recorded them, are surrounded by a story full of holes, and the only proof is the word of the two guys who were paid a fortune for them. And that's before we get into all the other issues.

These songs were never on Michael's radar. They don't appear in any of his notes left at Holmby Hills which contain dozens of song titles. And let's not forget that three weeks before Michael died, Angelo Montrone was working on the premixes for four Cascio tracks containing stand in vocals by James Porte ready for Michael to record in London. Yet Michael was so happy with the songs he ordered all the takes and outtakes destroyed. But they do have some, but the hard drive broke. Or whatever the excuse is.

It's a shame to see that people are still obsessed with pretending we all hate the Cascio's and it's all a big conspiracy created by the fans. The reason is because we don't hear Michael on these songs. We hear Jason Cupeta loud and clear. And there has never been an adequate explanation for that. It really is that simple. No one is hating on anyone. We just want answers. Okay, the answer is obvious and maybe that's half the problem. A lot of people just don't want to accept it.

He doesn't actually say that Michael mentioned Monster. Just that he wanted to collaborate with him on something. The original Monster is a totally different song.

did you listen to the audio?

14:38 " he had a record Monster"

16:20 " he was excited and he felt like that record was his new Thriller, his new version of Thriller".

so he clearly says Michael told him the song was his new version of Thriller and he even makes it sound like he told him it was called Monster.

edited to add: from his previous interviews I don't think he heard the song when Michael was alive.

I guess it can also be argued that he might have learned the name later on as well but it's pretty clear that Michael did not call him for any song, he called him for a song "he felt was his new Thriller" - whether it's the Cascio Monster or something else.

He doesn't say Michael called me and said he "had a record called Monster". He just states that there was a song called Monster, which there is. He's paraphrasing based on info gained after the fact. 50 knew that Mj wanted to work with him. In 2010, he was contacted by the Estate to perform on Monster. He's simply assuming that that's the song Mj wanted to do with him. All other evidence obviously ponts to the contrary.

let me post my edit to here as well

and even ask this

so which song is Michael's "new Thriller"?

"The new/next Thriller" is thrown around all the time in regards to new songs. I guess people see that song/album as the benchmark. There was a series of promo videos featuring interviews with Akon, 50 etc and he stated in that that Michael called him to work on something at some point, but did not mention a specific song. He didn't make the new Thriller comment either. Anyone remember those videos? They were online in late 2010.

Wanted to respond: That line is the one line which destroys your whole comment. You try to act all humble that we are all "searching" for the answer, yet you can't stop ridiculing the people who believe it is infact MJ by inserting that little line which has you claiming "we already know what the obvious answer is", yeah sure you do. Just as much as I can't believe how you guys think it's Jason, I guess.

I'm not here to insult (before my comment gets deleted again & not even starting on the fact I've seen way worse things here) but if you want to admit it or not, there is a huge load of "obsession" going on here. And it are not only the "believers" as you think.

Ontopic (I guess): I can't see how people would think of Monster as the new Thriller since they are noooooothing alike. The only one that comes close (in comparison of the genre) would be Ghosts.

Also agreed at the video part. I didn't hear 50 say anything about Monster being MJ's new thriller. I think he just wrote that for his rap to add hype to the song.

I just wish people who think it is Michael could show some thing in the songs that actually sounds like Michael or at least matches his voice in some way and at the same time, give an explanation for why all the Jason characteristics are there. If it really is Michael it shouldn't be that difficult.

This discussion still going? Wow well all I can say is (IMHO of course) "Keep Your Head Up", "Breaking News" and "Monster" NO WAY have Michael Jackson lead vocals. I believe they cut n pasted some "Hoo!"s and some "Aaow"s but thats about it. And I find it really disgusting and shameful that they would even try to con the fans and the wider public by putting them out under his name. Terrible. Its NOTHING LIKE HIM, *especially* Breaking News, that one sounds like one of the worst MJ impressions I've ever heard. In a 20yr+ adult voice, MJ has sounded more or less the same, and while he may changed his singing style slightly his voice is always recognisable. I know his voice anywhere and I stand 100% sure that is not it on those songs. Before anyone has a go at me.....You can choose to believe what you like about the songs. I dont condemn you, but I politely think you're very wrong if you don't agree.

I will repeat this again and again that I hear Michael Jackson singing on those songs and I totally don't understand the obsession with Jason Malachi. I was never tricked into thinking that any of Malachi songs could be Michael's. And I'm absolutely positive that the estate and Sony has an Expert's expertise available on the subject in case if anyone would try to challenge the authenticity of the recording legally.

I'm only interested in evidence. Not opinions. Where is the evidence of Michael in these songs? And the experts opinion is worthless. No one has ever seen it and the very thing they test to identify a voice (grunts, breaths, adlibs) are real Mj ones pasted in anyway.

Show something in a Cascio track that matches anything from Mj vocally and then explain, using evidence, the reason for all the aspects of the voice such as vibrato, pronouciation, accent and snorts that match Jason Cupeta. You can't do it.

How can you not? I refuse to believe you have heard those damning comparisons - no person could say that after hearing them.

Re: 50 cent talks about MJ and recording MONSTER!

I'm sure MJ wanted him to rap on Monster. But on the real Monster song (Brad Buxer, Michael Prince), not on this Jason Malachi song.

Yeah, I believe that MJ wanted on the real "Monster", produced around 2007/2008, but without Cascios!

I bet that Eddie was inspired by these titles (Monster, Water/H20, Rock Tonight) for making these fake tracks. -.-

Damien just posted a link to this new entry on his blog on FB. Seems there is another version of “Keep Your Head Up” released on iTunes

That ain’t no Michael Jackson! Apple’s iTunes Match causes major confusion

A bizarre development regarding the infamous Cascio track fiasco has come to light today. To cut a long story short (kind of), the version of “Keep Your Head Up” available to U.S. users of iTunes Match, an official Apple service, is not the same version officially released by Sony Music and the Michael Jackson Estate on the controversial “Michael” album back in December 2010. In fact, the version that iTunes Match users will experience is not even sung by the same person! Well, at least not entirely…

For those of you not familiar with “Keep Your Head Up”, the song is part of a collection known as the “Cascio tracks”; twelve songs which were sold to Sony Music and the Michael Jackson Estate by Jackson’s long-time friend Eddie Cascio. Mr. Cascio and his collaborative partner, singer/songwriter James Porte (aka Bobby Ewing), claim that Michael Jackson co-wrote and recorded these twelve songs in Cascio’s basement back in 2007. Many people, including the Jackson family, believe the vocals on the Cascio tracks are not authentic and belong to an MJ sound-alike. Some point the finger at singer Jason Malachi, including the man who produced Malachi’s music and recorded his vocals for ten years, Tony Kurtis.

And so the Cascio fiasco continues. The production of the version heard on iTunes Match sounds the same as the released version, but from beginning to end someone else is singing the lead vocals. The “official” lead vocal that listeners hear on the physical and digital release of the “Michael” album remains there, but is largely overpowered by the presence of the new, unidentified voice.

How this came to be, I do not know. The new voice is not in any way included in the official version of the song. This is the very first time it’s appeared anywhere in the world – and it’s appearing via an OFFICIAL channel. The music on iTunes Match is music that record labels provide. So how it got there is a mystery.

Popular belief among those who’ve heard this obscure version of the song is that the lead vocal belongs to the song’s co-writer, James Porte. Porte is credited on the “Michael” album as having recorded background vocals on the Cascio tracks.

If you want to hear what I am talking about, check it out for yourself! I guarantee you’ll be genuinely shocked at what you hear. Unfortunately, have to be a iTunes Match user. Subscriptions cost $24.99 for a year.

Regardless of who the singer actually is, one thing is for sure: It’s NOT Michael Jackson… AGAIN!

I'm guessing this might be fan made - because

The idea is simple: iTunes scans your music library, sends the information about your songs to Apple’s servers, and then either “matches” music that’s in both your library and the iTunes Store, or uploads the music that isn’t in the iTunes Store. Then, you can either download or stream (depending on the hardware) all of your music from a Mac or PC running iTunes 10; an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 5 or later; or a second- or third-generation Apple TV.

Any music you've purchased from the iTunes Store is already available in iTunes Match via your iCloud account. Then you allow iTunes Match to scan your iTunes library to catalog all the songs that are in it. Once that happens, Apple's software automatically adds any music in your library that's also available at iTunes, but that you got elsewhere, to your account. By doing this, you're saved from having to upload these songs, which otherwise could take a very long time for large libraries. Lastly, music in your iTunes library that isn't available at the iTunes Store is uploaded to your iCloud account.

so even if the apple is matching the song they should be matching it with what they are selling normally or if the person hasn't bought the song they are uploading the person's own version to the cloud.

In other words someone simply can try to buy "Keep your head up" from regular itunes store - (no need for a $24.99 account), if this not the version that iTunes is selling then someone uploaded this version to their cloud from their own computer and it's not an official release.

The original Monster was around 1998.

From the 30 seconds or so I could hear, I agree that this sounds fanmade. That also seems much more reasonable than a mix with James Porte demo vocals on top of the production that is similar to the final product somehow ending up on the net.

I'm at work now but when I go home tonight, I'll buy Keep your head up from iTunes. I'll let you know if it is the album version or the above version.

iTunes Match is nothing more than an online cloud system that automatically stores your music files on a virtual drive and syncs your music files between your devices. They either get the songs from the regular iTunes or from every individuals harddrive & devices. It's not a different or special versions system.

Isn't there a guy that sang Karaoke with these songs?

Maybe iTunes was hacked by anti-Cascio fans, just for fun. However, this guy sounds a lot better than Jason :D

Even knowing how absolutely horrible Jason Malachi is, this guy is definitely worse. Guess it's a matter of taste.

It might be this guy singing the KYHU thing

Not really sure

NAAAH, I'm SURE IT'S THIS GUY
