Michael Jackson: The Experience - Discussion News And Updates Thread

Does anyone know what the downloadable tracks are gonna be? I know we've had rumours of JAM, Scream and MITM but I was just wondering if there's been anymore news on it?

I played the demo at BB a few days ago and enjoyed it even though seeing myself in the game was a bit daunting at first . Does anyone know if the scanned image of yourself can be turned off and MJ can be present during gameplay? It would be nice to have it as an option.

Nope. Player Projection is exclusive to the Kinect version and can not be turned off. It would be best to get the Move version if you dont want to see yourself on the screen. :)

Thanks for the info. I am a little more comfortable with the Kinect version after trying it out again. I am leaning towards this version to purchase even though I sort of want to get the Move version as well. I guess I have a few days to sort it out.

Well, I played a couple songs and I have mixed feelings on it.

First, understand that this was the reason why I bought a kinect this week, so I'm still new to the whole experience. In fact, it was today that I finally got it set up to play around a little bit before I got the MJ game.

The first game I played was "Billie Jean" and it was a bit strange...so I played it again for a second opinion and I enjoyed it a little more. I then played a few other tracks like "Beat It" and I kept losing points because I was doing the actual moves from the video...hahah. That gave me a bit of a laugh but I found that the "Master Performance" was a little more true to the actual choreography...its a heck of a lot more fast paced and it was a challenge for the pure fact that I am terrible at seeing those little screens which tells you which is next. Perhaps I should watch the "MJ School" stuff...

I then found a mic from another game and plugged it in because for some tracks, the game wasn't recognizing me singing. Once I plugged in a mic I had zero issues and managed to get 99% scores on "Heal The World", "Dirty Diana" and "I Just Can't Stop Loving You." Although, all I could do was shake my head and wonder why "Man In The Mirror", and "You Are Not Alone" was not included for the singing aspect. Perhaps DLC is in the works?....great...we'll have to pay some ridiculous sum for a track or track pack. If they go the dlc route I hope we can at least vote for tracks much like we voted for the songs for "This Is It". It is a solid mixture of songs although "Sunset Driver" and "Streetwalker" I found to be a waste when you have so many top songs they could have used instead. I would have settled on the usual stuff than the lesser known.

Not having MJ on the screen isn't a big deal for me but considering where you have to stand I found it difficult to see myself anyway especially since I had to focus on the dancers (since I could barely see the boxes). Which brings me to my next point....I dont understand why the kinect isn't able to record your performance. Either from your living room or from the image you put on the screen, it would have been great to see that on playback. I hear that was the big thing that the PS3 got but wouldn't have made more sense for something like the kinect?

Overall, I would give the game a solid 7 out of 10. I'm just not sure why they couldn't include more tracks considering the game is nothing more than a single player/co-op game with no career mode or anything that would truly make you want to come back to the game other than the various difficulty settings. It's by no means a terrible game but I wouldn't say it is great either. It is something that an MJ fan can sit back and enjoy, and get a nice little work out going.

I'm kinda of with you on your review, but I just dont understand why they cant get the moves right, none of the "Breaks" are done right either: BJ,SC,Thriller,TWYMMF. I was playing BJ and you don't even throw the hat during the beginning like the Wii.I mean this game may have Full Body Tracking, but what's the point of using it if you can't get any moves right.Don't get me wrong, its a cool game and all but it's certainly "Not the dance game you've been waiting for" as UBISOFT would put it.

Go play the Wii version and watch MJ,the moves in Kinect don't even come close.Their like moves for backup dancers and lets not forget the repetitive moves used again in different songs. Also why are those Dance School vids still there if UBISOFT doesnt put them in the game. I know they want to be cater to the casual world, but show some love with a "HARD MODE" to the MJ fans that practice his moves everyday.

If I had a Wii or knew someone that did I would probably at least check it out but I was always kind of turn off from playing this game on here. I hear mixed things on it. You're right, the moves are indeed off and I don't understand it myself. And I agree that there should be a mode where you must truly follow the choreography. I mean, the "Master Performance", is again a bit better but they still throw random moves in at places that just don't make sense to me. This is an issue with a lot of games (Madden NFL anyone?). The companies focus so much on casual gamers that they either forget or ignore the more "hardcore" players out there that want realism as well as a challenge. Yes, they need to cater to everyone and to be fair, Ubisoft did in a way...but it could have still been better.

But I just thought of another point. It would have been nice for them to have included a "free style" mode. Just a mode where you can sing and or dance any song you desire...while the kinect records you. It wouldn't be based on points, instead it would just be about you singing and dancing the way you want for the enjoyment and for the ability to playback for your friends. That would have been nice.

Eh, I'm glad I didn't pay full price to be honest. (Gotta love Gift cards)

Sorry if I was ranting earlier, just glad someone else agree's with me. I love anything that has MJ's name on it, but I was just a little dissapointed. Hey, at least you still get a workout.!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

Got it on Kinect...I'll be trying it out tonight when I get home from work ;)

I've been reading the comments on youtube today and its just as I thought before it was released. The PS3 version is EXACTLY like the Wii version except 3 new tracks and singing. Makes you wonder what these guys have been working on the last 5 months.

Hi Arklove

Please give us your thoughts :)

What do you think about the master Performance Level ?

Thanks much !

Master Performance is fun and can be challenging at times, but the choreography is all wrong

Thanks throwback.
That sucks the choreography are wrong ... :( They could have made them as close as possible from the correct ones, at least in the Master Performance mode ...

I know it defeats the object of the game for the Kinect version but is there any way to turn off the scoring thing and the guide so you can do the authentic choreography?

I wasn't able to find such a feature. I know that you can't really "fail" so to speak so at times I found myself doing what I wanted with no repercussions.

I think I'm going to drop my grade to a 6 which is still being generous. There just isn't much to keep me coming back after going through all of the tracks. I don't think it's worth full price, that is certain. Don't get me wrong, the nostalgia alone is great at first, and the intro video does a great job of getting you excited...but the initial thrill is about all there is to it in my opinion.

I did come across a glitch, I guess you could say. At one point I was fixing my mic, and I was not saying ANYTHING...and I was still getting graded by the game (getting "OK"s). My only guess is it's either a glitch or there is a very small chance it was hearing my tv. I have read a few reviews that stated that you can just hum the melody and still do great with the singing. I always chuckle when I get a 99% on the singing and a 53% on the dancing (coming from not practicing and doing the actual choreography).

The shame of it is that we all wanted that classic MJ game for this generation...and this isn't it in my eyes. Certainly not the game we've been waiting for as we've been told. You look at Moonwalker...and that is a pure classic. I would have settled with a re-release of the arcade version on XBL and PSN. Or perhaps even better yet...an MJ Rock Band would have been perfect. When does Rock Band ever fail? It's a concept that simply works and simply sells.

interesting. Can anyone confirm Scorpio's opinion (playing the game one or a couple of times is actually enough)? Initially wanted to buy Xbox360 Slim, Kinect and the game but if that's really the case maybe I just lend the whole thing for a weekend.

Does that mean the PS3 version does have a record feature?

Can anyone sum up the differences between the PS3 and the Xbox360 version? I'm considering to buy either of the game pads just for this game.

the ps3 version allready leaked today in the morning. the eu- version leaked. 13,5gb. and easily to download from megaupload. sure, also various other mirrors. but megaupload is the fastest. for the jailbreaked ps3. and what i heard it is running. whithout any problem. :D
sure i will buy the game, but not for that much money.
