Official details/press release from Sony and the estate will be issued later on today. Believe it or not, current media reports are only based on the Wal St. Journal article last night and are based on information from a reputable insider. Expect more details to be released this afternoon between 12pm and 6pm E time.

Also, I know for a fact that these 10 projects are not all Greatest Hits. There WILL be a new album coming out this year. And, there are plans for another CD of unreleased songs as a part of this contract. Not to mention, when Off The Wall is re-issued in 2011, there will be unheard album cuts from OTW included in the package. Also, one of these projects includes a MJ video game for PS3, plus a possible DVD documentary/movie about MJ which will be released through Sony. So please do not get worked up that these 10 projects are simply all greatest hit packages. I know for a fact that it's not that way at all!

At some point down the line it would be great to have re-mastered editions of Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible with bonus tracks and demos. OTW, Thriller and Bad have already had this treatment. I never saw the point in Thriller 25 and I don't see the point in OTW 30. Both of those albums have already been remastered with bonus material in 2001, why is there a need to do it again?

I know the 80s were his heyday, but his career didn't end after Bad. I hope his Estate don't continue the trend of ignoring his 90s and 00s work.

to have someone as shy and friendly as Michael have to go out and public and protest like that speaks volumes to me

Trouble is if we boycott then the media will just turn round and say that no one cares about Michael anymore. Its a Catch 22 situation. If we buy it we're saying 'yeah great SONY, keep releasing all these greatest hits albums' and if we don't people will say 'oh no one cares about him anymore.' Its such a difficult situation. Even with a new album it won't be the same. I remember the excitement of a new album coming out, swiping it off my dad as soon as he came in the door with it. Getting excited seeing what Michael would do to promote the album and if he could top the last time. But he's gone now and no amount of multi million dollar deals will bring him back. I'm happy that Michael is breaking more records and his kids will be gaining a lot more income but all this, I just can't put it adequatly into words how I feel at the moment.

Michael's music and success in the 1990's and 2000's is very over looked, and deserves a lot more respect than it gets.

I hate the fact many of the media claim Michael's music sales went downhill in the 2000's, when in fact for someone who's career was actually inactive with only one studio album in the 2000's ie Invincible in 2001. Michael's music sales very brilliant for someone who just released 3 or so greatest hits albums of songs most fans already had, a box set of rare and unreleased songs, and the releases of his albums from 1979-91 in 2001, than Thriller25 in 2008, which all had great music sales by any other artists standaed who wasn't called Michael Jackson.

yes, that's true. i wish there was a way for fans all over the world to boycott the material and let them KNOW that we are boycotting them. That way, the media cant say we don't care.

i guess that won't happen. the only thing that makes me feel better is that someday, sony will get what they really deserve.

What you have to realize is that after MJ had his troubles with Sony, he moved on and was still making deals with them. Thriller 25 and the Visionary boxed set were deals MJ made with Sony after his contract expired. MJ was willing to work with Sony, so I don't see why people still hate on them. This is not the Sony run by Tommy Motola anymore.

Sure... for me it was first with George Michael, years before Michael Jackson. And it was the same, album not selling well, George saying it was Sony, Sony saying they will not invest any more money in the man, since people were no more into his music, media talking trash about George, then George and his never ending personal troubles...
Well... at least he is alive, rocking Australia now! :cheeky: I hope he will take care of himself and will not give up.

Omg, no Idea where you get this from but sounds good! *** my pants for sure.

I find this to be a good deal and I'm happy to see Michael Jackson break another record that will "most likely" NEVER be broken. Kudos to Branca and Company.

Oh and I'm also happy to see all of the headlines this morning regarding Michael Jackson breaking ANOTHER record with this massive deal.

P.S. I always thought that Michael's problem was basically with Thomas Mottola and not Sony, per se and that Michael got his wish when Sony gave Mottola the BIG boot.

I for one have faith in Branca and McClain.

Hopefully they listen to the fans and release concert footage as well as many unreleased recordings we've never heard before. But at the moment, I have confidence in them.

Very true. And just because of this I would buy all the releases even if I didn't like the deal. But I think it's a good deal and the Estate did a great job with it. It's very impressive that the contract doesn't allow Sony to sell merchandise and use MJ's name and image. Very good job :clapping:

As for my personal feelings, I don't feel excitement. It's all very different from those times when I heard about HIStory and then BOTDF and then Invincible. It was pure joy those times. Now I am calm. And I think I will be crying when I go to a music store to buy this album this year :(

You can't keep hating on Sony. It hurts to see how much hate, anger & resentment some people still hold onto from the past. It's not healthy.

Let it go & look to the future.

2001 is in the past ... mottola is gone now ... sony music is better now .. Michael is not hating sony anymore I believe .. and why boycott any new material ? I dont care what label .. new material is new material which is the best **cking comfort u can get ....

Well, personally speaking, I don't know how happy Michael would be about this, but I hope a DVD/Blu-ray release of The Victory Tour is a result of this deal.

I think the fans will not boycott the project, but we do not have to love Sony.

We can not forget what that company did against Michael.

wow november date is confirmed by official MJ site ;D

ESTATE OF MICHAEL JACKSON AND SONY MUSIC RENEW 30-YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH LANDMARK RECORDING DEAL

MARCH 16, 2010

Special Administrators for the Estate of Michael Jackson, John Branca and John McClain, and Sony Music will continue the label's 30-year relationship with Michael Jackson and his music with a landmark recording deal, it was announced today.

With this new agreement, Sony Music's Columbia Epic Label Group and Legacy Recordings will continue their term of rights to his catalog and also create new projects for Michael Jackson featuring the never-before-released Jackson recordings. The first project featuring unreleased music is expected for release in November 2010.
As a solo artist with Epic Records spanning three decades, Michael has sold hundreds of millions of records worldwide and released thirteen #1 singles. Jackson became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award. Sony's Legacy Recordings has also created a number of successful projects such as the "Thriller" 25th anniversary album. The best selling album of all time worldwide by wide margin, "Thriller" showed the lasting power of Michael's music by returning to #1 on the weekly sales charts in 2008.

This past fall, Sony Music released the #1 two-disc album companion to the motion picture Michael Jackson's This is It " which has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Released by Sony Pictures, the film made history as the highest grossing concert film of all time and the recently released DVD took the #1 spot in DVD sales, breaking the record for first-week's sales of a music film.
