Re: Michael Jackson Estate signs huge deal with Cirque du Soleil!

Michael must be smiling from heaven while hearing this news, he'd love it so much  Bless you Michael you deserve it so so much :)
Co-sign! He would be thrilled!

An excellent way to uphold Michael's legacy. This news is all over the place and just wait until the show is ready and they start promoting it.

From reading all of the articles, it appears that Cirque de Soliel is about to kick it up a notch!

Re: Michael Jackson Estate signs huge deal with Cirque du Soleil!

This is cool. I like Cirque du Soleil. It's just kind of bittersweet that stuff like this didn't happen when he was still here.

Re: Michael Jackson Estate signs huge deal with Cirque du Soleil!

:clapping:This will be amazing - Cirque performers are class so I am certain this will be a fantastic tribute to Michael... can't wait to see if it comes to the Uk!

No. That was for records..?

The Sony deal does not include anything to do with Michael’s publishing, live shows still to be arranged, or merchandise. A show with Cirque du Soleil, as I’ve written before, will be announced shortly for Las Vegas.

Cirque to put on show based on Michael Jackson

LOS ANGELES – First the Beatles and Elvis, now Michael Jackson.

The acrobatic troupe Cirque du Soleil announced Tuesday that it will put on a live touring show featuring the songs of the King of Pop starting late next year.

That will be followed by a permanent production in Las Vegas in 2012 at a property owned by MGM Mirage Inc. The casino company did not say which venue will host the show. A nightclub in Las Vegas will also open with the show.

Cirque and Jackson's estate will each own 50 percent of the projects and share equally in the cost of putting them on. The estate will also receive royalties from the use of Jackson's music and other assets.

Jackson, who died at age 50 last June after a drug overdose, was described as a "huge fan" of the French Canadian performance group.

He saw their first tent show in Santa Monica, Calif., many years ago with longtime lawyer and now estate co-executor, John Branca. And he visited their Montreal headquarters in 2004, Cirque CEO Daniel Lamarre said.

"He said he was an acrobat himself," Lamarre said in an interview. "As an artist he had this amazing way of bringing some visual element to his performances."
The touring show, which will begin in North America before branching out around the world, will be a simulation of a Jackson concert, while the Las Vegas show will be more theatrical and more technologically advanced, Lamarre said.

"The expectations of Michael Jackson fans around the world are going to be huge," he said. "And we have to deliver."

There are no plans for other members of Jackson's family to perform.

Before Jackson decided on a series of comeback concerts at the O2 arena in London, he was seen several years ago in Las Vegas and considered performing there.
Branca said Jackson would have approved of a Cirque tribute.

"I'm not convinced he would have gone to Las Vegas and performed like Celine Dion did," he said in an interview. "But this is something Michael would be very excited about."

Unreleased Jackson recordings may become part of the shows' musical numbers, and his biggest hits will likely be remixed and mashed up so fans will hear his music in a new way, Branca said.

The other co-executor, John McClain, a Jackson friend and music producer, has discovered more than 60 songs that Jackson recorded but never released. They form the backbone of a seven-year deal with Sony Music Entertainment worth up to $250 million. A new album from the recordings is set for release in November.
Jackson's mother, Katherine, said in a statement, "Our family is thrilled that Cirque du Soleil will pay tribute to my son in such an important way."

Jackson died after overdosing on propofol and other sedatives. He was about to start a series of comeback concerts he called "This Is It." The concert movie based on rehearsal footage went on to gross $252 million worldwide.

His personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter. He is expected to go to trial this summer.

Re: Michael Jackson Estate signs huge deal with Cirque du Soleil!

Woooah, awesome. Love how all the footage was from Bucharest and not the cliché 80's footage that is shown all the time for a change.

Re: Michael Jackson Estate signs huge deal with Cirque du Soleil!

I saw a few clips of The Beatles Love show and they were pretty good. I also have the soundtrack album and like the way George Martin remixed the songs. I wonder if they're going to remix Mike's songs like that. I've also seen some of Cirque's other shows on DVD. They're interesting.

Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil: Reality TV show coming too

April 20, 2010 | 12:03 pm

A just-announced collaboration between Michael Jackson’s estate and Cirque du Soleil also includes plans for a reality TV show along the lines of “American Idol” and “Dancing With the Stars” to discover a young choreographer to help develop an arena tour and permanent show in Las Vegas built on Jackson’s music, dancing and life story.
The TV show, in the discussion stage but targeted to be on the air sometime early in 2011, would audition young dance enthusiasts from across the globe in search of “someone young, who is cutting edge, from the outside, someone in the streets, who can bring that style that no one’s ever seen before, like Michael always did,” John Branca, co-executor of Jackson’s estate, said Tuesday.
The parties believe the combination of Jackson’s name, Cirque’s reputation and a talent discovery show similar to two of the most popular shows on television right now will make it a hit.
The show’s winner would join two other professional choreographers to be selected by the team assembling the concert-style arena tour slated to get under way in the fall of 2011, and a Jackson-themed permanent show in Las Vegas.
“There is not a lack of creativity around the table,” Cirque President and CEO Daniel Lamarre said Tuesday. “We’re just starting to work closer together, and those are the initial ideas we’ve decided to go ahead with. But there are other ideas. We will be pursuing lots of lifestyle ideas. That’s only the beginning of our bold, creative forces working together.”
The deal with Cirque is just the latest in an aggressive series of grand-scale projects Jackson’s estate has undertaken in recent months, in addition to the concert film and DVD “This Is It” from the tour that was aborted when he died last June and a new long-term contract with Sony Music covering reissues as well as new compilations of previously unissued recordings and, potentially, video games.

Unreleased tracks

According to Branca and fellow co-executor John McClain, unreleased Jackson tracks may become part of the musical numbers in the two shows, alongside remixed versions of his hits.

McClain also revealed that an album of songs Jackson recorded but never released is also forthcoming in November.
