Janet on the AMA's

She did good. I thought of Michael with her last song. I got emotional.

I was waiting for her to break into Scream, or even 1 of Michael's songs....no such luck. :( Still a good performance

It was missing something....

I think it was because the crowd was so boring.. it lacked energy....

I mean... she's 43, she just lost her brother, she isn't in her best shape - I'm glad she could even pull any dance of at all.
I think it's was alright, and in comparison to many other artists then it was fantastic.

I loved that she did a medley, but I wasn't mentally prepared for Together Again (I didn't even think of that song before the performance) - it was so obvious that it was dedicated to Michael since she first did the medley of old songs, then went to "Make Me", and ended with Together Again - I got really emotional.

You know what brother, I'd agree with you, except Janet blew me away when she performed Scream not long ago as a dedication to her brother MJ. Remember that performance??? She was OF THE HOOK!!

I love Janet. She's so beautiful and I liked her performance best.:clapping:

This is the last time I will see the AMAs. (its the first time in years and i felt id give it a chance this time ONLY because MJ was nominated and Janet was performing) Overall the show itself was blah. No energy. Just lights and pyrotechnics that blew me away. :timer:

That crowd was dead on every performance.

There was a big guy -- like, bodyguard big -- behind Jermaine, who was really getting into Janet's performance at one point; during "Together Again", if I'm not mistaken. And the camera caught Mary J. Blige kind of bobbing her head to the beat, and you could see a few other random people enjoying it. But yeah, overall, the crowd was lame. I thought Janet did good. She didn't wow me or anything, but she did good.

I totally agree with you - I watched her performance now again, and she definitely was one of the few highlights from the show.

And the crowd sucked - maybe that's because their mostly artist/industry people and are "too cool" to jump and sing along.

I wonder who this dude is - He repped Mike very well:

THIS DUDE HAS MY RESPECT...

I think 'Together Again' was Janet's subtle tribute to Mike. It was placed strategically. You would have thought the number would have ended with 'Make Me' which is her new single, but it ended with Together Again. She kept looking up to the heavens as she was singing, as if she was singing it to Michael.

Hmmm..hope I was watching the same show. I thought Janet was amazing! She danced more on here than when I saw her live a couple times and even then Awesome. The AMA's crowd is full of other entertainers...not fans who get into the music. So yes they are gonna be dead and the performer draws energy from the crowd. I though her energy level was great! Go Ms. J.

that's eerie. when was 'together again' written? and who was it first dedicated, to, when it was first written?

i do think that, this time, she was gesturing skyward, very dramatically, and was singing about Michael. and the audience knew it, because more than at any other time in the performance medley, they beamed with smiles when she went through and finisned 'together again'.

That's actually an excellent point, MJsAngelOfMusic. :clapping:
Performers definitely do draw energy from the crowd. When that energy is not there, (in my experience when i used to do dance shows), it's hard to blow it out of the water. When people are jumping and screaming, its really exciting and it lights up your entire body and soul.

Great point, again.

it was on the velvet rope album so 10-11 years ago? somewhere in there. Not sure who exactly it was written for but one of my favorite songs from her.

It was very emotional to hear it tonight though, I wasn't expecting it...I thought she was going to go on with the newer stuff when she switched to Make Me but I definitely believe it was her own personal tribute to Mike and the look in her eyes at the end made me cry even more.

I do agree that the crowd suffered from energy loss but like someone said, mostly artists get the bottom seats and their energy level is only really hyped for themselves, makes for dead shows and I've been seeing that this entire year....and the fact that there were more performances than actual award presentations...i've had my fill...but again and back on topic, I enjoyed Janet's performance, I think she and whitney were actually the best because they felt "real" if that makes sense.

Janet didn't lack energy. It was the audience and the choreo didn't help much.

That guy is awesome! Who is he, anyone know?

Janet did great. The majority of the audience looked like they were in a courtroom or something. WTF!
