Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

I just read that the actual ceremony for this award is the night before the awards. Said that the video of them accepting the award will be shown on the grammys but from what i understand they will not be live on stage at the grammys.

I was just about to ask about this, hope it's done this way.

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

It's confirmed the kids will appear on the Grammys to accept the award on their father's behalf. CNN just confirmed it.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's two eldest children are scheduled to take the stage this weekend to accept the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their father, Jackson family sources said.

It would be the first public appearance for Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, since their dramatic appearance at the memorial service 12 days after their father's death.

"The whole world is waiting to see these children blossom," said Brian Oxman, a lawyer for Joe Jackson.

Two sources close to the family said the youngest, 7-year-old Blanket, was not expected to appear, although they suggested that might change.

Contrary to some media reports, the sources said there was no plan for the children to sing or dance at the show.

The Recording Academy, which presents the Grammy Awards, will honor the late pop star with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Special Merit Awards ceremony Saturday evening in Los Angeles.

Video of the presentation is likely to be included in Sunday night's musical tribute to Jackson during the Grammy telecast, the sources said.

While Katherine Jackson, Michael's mother, is expected to attend, Joe Jackson, his father, decided not to go because of his anger over the behind-the-scenes talks that led to the agreement to have the children accept the award, family sources said.

The decision came just this week, after Katherine Jackson, the legal guardian of the children, complained to Grammy producers that no family members had been invited, the Jackson sources said.

Two sources in the family said that she was initially told by producers that the estate's special administrators would decide who would take part in the Jackson tribute.

"Can you believe this crap?" one source quoted Joe Jackson as saying when he heard that.

The Grammy producers have not responded to a CNN request for comment.

A spokesman for the estate administrators said the matter was for Grammy producers to decide.

"Why is a stranger making family decisions?" asked Oxman, the lawyer who is representing Michael Jackson's father in a legal battle with the administrators.

Oxman said those administrators have disconnected the Jackson family from any decisions involving Michael Jackson's legacy.

Oxman was in a Los Angeles court Thursday where a judge set May 26 as the date he will hear testimony in Joe Jackson's request for a monthly allowance from his son's estate. Joe Jackson, 80, said he depended on his son's financial support for years before his death.

The administrators, lawyer John Branca and former music executive John McClain, contend he has not shown how he was "actually dependent" on Michael Jackson.

The estate lawyers said the expenses Joe Jackson wants covered by the estate -- including vacations, air travel, assistants and legal fees -- are not reasonable. They also noted that while Jackson's mother and three children were named as beneficiaries in his will written in July 2002, Joe Jackson was not.

Joe Jackson is challenging the validity of that will, which names Branca and McClain as executors, but so far the court has refused to hear his arguments.

The judge overseeing probate of the will already awarded $60,000 in monthly support for the three children and $26,000 a month for Katherine Jackson, starting from June 25, 2009, the day Michael Jackson died.

CNN has learned that Katherine Jackson has not received any of the money ordered for her because of a judgment in a lawsuit nearly two decades ago.

A South Korean newspaper, the Segye Times, sued Michael Jackson in 1990, claiming he failed to perform at a series of concerts they had already paid him for. The lawsuit also named Katherine Jackson, Joe Jackson and another one of their sons, Jermaine Jackson.

Michael Jackson's lawyers reached an out-of-court settlement with the newspaper, but his parents and brother did not. When they failed to fight it in court, a California judge issued a $4 million summary judgment against them, which has now grown with interest to about $8 million, according to court papers.

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

I hope they will just take the award, say thank you and then go back to as private a life as possible again. This may be the last time this year, and for a long time, that they will be able to accept an award for him. If they stay out of the limelight as much as possible in between special occasions I think they'll be fine. No matter what the due the press will pull something out of you know where to put their own spin on it. They speculated Paris's speech at the memorial as scripted for God's sake so...UP THEIR'S!

I hope so....
"If they are anything like their talented father, know Prince and Paris will be great on stage!" this is some of the crap that is starting to pop up in the press..."if they are anything like"...

"Why is a stranger making family decisions?" asked Oxman
LOL

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

I really hope the kids are not on stage in front of all those camera. It's exploitation at it's worst. Michael is spinning in his grave.

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

After reading that article, I feel this way:

If in fact the Executors are the ones making the decision which Jackson family member participates, I feel Mrs. Katherine Jackson will comply with the Executors if they want Paris and Prince accepting the award and onstage.

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

i will never seriously believe it's kids' decision. they're pushing them. they dont follow the industry at this age and ask "how can we participate?" i wish them a lot of courage and strength in the years to come.

I hope if it happens, it's done this way, too. Let's just hope no tricky editing is done when they air it during the LIVE ceremony.

Are we sure that CNN report isn't repeating unconfirmed news? They keep saying "family sources". Why sources and not official names?

Suddenly, I'm a lil nervous. Oh boy.

You don't think kids this age follow the industry? I disagree with that. Most kids this age are into music and all they are talkng about now on radio/tv/etc are the grammys. I am sure they were made aware their father is getting an award. I can see Prince and Paris wanting to do this. I don't think Blanket would be ready but I definitely think the other two possibly would ask to participate

Hmm...:brow: Inviting none of Michael's family members at all? No one to represent the family? Doesn't make sense. Makes me wonder if the Estate's special admins hadn't contacted the family yet or the family was just pissed at having to go to the Estate to get permission to attend a Michael tribute event. Something is fishy about this. It wouldn't surprise me if the two sources were Randy/McMillian or Oxman/McMillian. Perhaps there was a miscommunication...

Very interesting. If we are to believe this, Katherine hasn't been getting her monthly $26,000. Makes you wonder what the kids money is being used for. Joe and Katherine had to declare bankruptcy. Are there any other cases like this (ones in which the ruling hasn't been in her favor and she owes certain parties money)?

If the above info correct: they will be attending a not televised special industry event to get the award on Saturday night and the footage will be played at Grammy's on Sunday night.

I think this makes sense they would not be going to a live broadcast with a lot of people but will be attending to an industry event.

remember recently the lawyers of estate went to court to increase the allowance for the children. probably they are trying to give children more so that katherine can have the increased amount to herself. I feel like they are trying to help her.

That is so sad that Katherine is not getting any money because of a 20 year old judgement, and probably never will... good thing Michael's people knew to settle!

If Joe Jackson and his attorney are gonna be antagonistic towards the special administrators, do they actually think they are gonna be treating them like they are best friends?

See, why other people other than members of the Jackson family are in control of the Estate? Michael knew what he was doing. If Michael wanted to he could've paid off that judgement for his parents, but he obviously did'nt see fit to do so, he settled his end, it was their problem. But ironically, its his money that is being used to pay off this debt as none of it actually goes to Katherine. Geez.....

I just see one big ass mess brewing over who gets to say and do what where these kids are concerned in the very near future. A number of people in this situation just have dollar signs printed on their eye ball for sure!

After reading that article, I feel this way:

I think That is BS. Katherine Jackson is the guardian of The children. The Executors CANNOT and doesn't have a say in guardian matters. They have a say in their allowance though. They can't tell Katherine to have the kids appear on stage to accept this award. Thats her grand kids and she makes the descision.

That said I think its a great idea. Prince and Paris are almost teens. Michaels tribute is big news and has been in the news so Im certain they've heard it. The award show on the day before the grammys is not televised. Its done every year.

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys

Saturday night they give all the lifetime and special awards so if they go to that and accept it for Michael I think that's okay. Then they will probably show footage of that at the actual grammys when they do the tribute for Michael.

I find it sad the the family and the estate just can't get along. In the end it's really the kids future here and Michael's legacy.

Re: Confirmed: Michael Jackson's children to take stage at awards

Branca has that much control over MJ's estate that he can decide that MJ's kids accept the award? WTF? I hope Joe contests that Will soon.

2 i think CNN had bad intentions with that article, i mean they just mixed EVERYTHING, CNN is one more TABLOID

Re: Confirmed: Michael Jackson's children to take stage at awards

I think the important thing here IS that the kids are going to be there cause they want to, Katherine was told by them and she asked this for them, which was the right thing but that the Grammys seemed to forgot  :bugeyed :bugeyed :bugeyed :bugeyed

One more thing is to note that CNN has only bad intentions with this article and we should LEARN theyare one MORE TABLOID :puke:

He can contests all he wants, but he has no legal standing. Unless Katherine goes in and contest, Joe and his lackeys can scream all they want and it won't amount to a hill of beans.

Although, I can't feel too sorry for Katherine. Her bad business practices and back and bit her on the ass. Which is why no one in that family should be trusted with alot of money.

Re: Confirmed: Michael Jackson's children to take stage at awards

He tried it and lost.

Re: Confirmed: Michael Jackson's children to take stage at awards

Yes FedoraHatGirl....I am with you. I am glad the children will be there, even if its the night before in a more protected environment accepting an award that their father deserves. They have EARNED that right too and I am sure they are aware of things.

They won't have a lot more opportunities to do things like this in the future. Awards will not keep coming.

I am not trying to read too much into what Joe Jackson, Brian Oxman or CNN has said. It is just very special that the children are allowed to participate. I remember the BET awards and wasn't it Jermajesty there with is father? Well....it should be Michaels children. Katherine knows what she is doing here. She is allowing them to participate in his legacy.

As far as the 'estate' controlling things......I think this is just Joe Jackson/Brian Oxman yapping.

Thanks :), im sure the KIds are just preparing for that day, Paris seems like a brave girl :), and Prince is more like the business kid ;D , Blanket is just too little may be he will appear, may be not, thats totally up to him

See, this right here just makes me wanna :mat: Brian Oxman! Give Joe Jackson and his media hungry lawyer the say so and you will see these children pimped out all over the place! but Joe Jackson seems to be forgetting that he has no legal say in how these children are raised.

I see a fight brewing over these kids in the not so distant future and it scares me. People are just oput to get what they want, plain and simple.

CNN has learned that Katherine Jackson has not received any of the money ordered for her because of a judgment in a lawsuit nearly two decades ago.

See, that right there is alarming. So I take it that its more than likely that Katherine Jackson will never see a cent from Michael's money given that every cent has to be paid over to satisfy that 8 mil debt? So all these years later, Michael Jackson is esentially the one who's gonna be paying off this debt! There's a reason MJ wrote his Will the way he did.

I feel a bit better now that I know they won't be accepting the award on the LIVE telecast. If this is how they wanna do it, then so be it, Michael is their dad.
