Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys - Update pg 13 (All discussion here)

Watching that rehearsal pretty much killed me. I will watch the Grammys tonight but I'm going to have to buy some extra tissues that's for sure. I had to log off upbruptly at 1am last night because I just couldn't get on so coudn't post my thoughts about Frank. I thought it was a very nice, humble speech that was all about Michael which is what it should be. If the kids were going to accept the award but got too nervous then I'm glad they are not being forced to do something they do not want to do and that their father is proud of them whether they go up on a stage or not. However it looks like that no family member was present and I very much doubt the kids would have gone to this without a family members. I know they know Frank very well but Katherine would have gone with them. Whatever happens tonight, its going to be emotional. If the kids make an appearance on stage tonight then if that's what they want to do I definitely have their back. If they don't want to go up then I have their back to. They need to do what their hearts are telling them. Don't listen to family members, and don't listen to the media. Listen to your hearts.

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys - Update pg 13 (All discussion here)

So, Frank Dileo accepted an award for Michael then? Dont think he has any right to, given that for the most part of Michaels career he wasnt around or a part of it. Just my opinion.

I really dont know if I could watch that Grammy tribute, reading what Celine said and the images of our dear Michael, its heartbreaking all over again.

Can't believe Joe straight out lied about Prince and Paris practicing their speeches! Its not just a little white lie too but its pretty big lol

Oh dear, poor Michael. His family is pretty... no words. Thank god for his children, that's all I have to say.
Joseph is senile he has no idea what he is talking about.

the family has seats for tomorrow's show , they have been invited , it seems they chose to attend the broadcasted show , typical of them .
Yeah, no surprises whatsoever.

Re: Grammt Tribute Rehearsal video :)

I can't forget how she sang "Because you loved me" at Monaco award show back in 1996 (i guess) and it seemed to me that she was singing to him, she was looking at him, he was looking at her and it was like they shared some little secret :) :)

Re: Michael Jackson's Kids May Appear at Grammys - Update pg 13 (All discussion here)

Since I don't really have a clear opinion one way or the other about Prince and Paris attending the Grammys, I'll just wait and see what happens. There are so many factors involved here that all the members here have already mentioned that it's a very difficult decision to make (if indeed they're still going to appear tonight). I just hope that whether the children attend the ceremony tonight or not, it will be a decision made by them or at least by Katherine instead of someone trying to push the kids into doing something they are not yet ready for.

Having said that, the rehearsal of the 3D tribute looks spectacular and very emotional. I only watched it for 30 seconds or so and I already felt like I needed to grab some tissues. It'll be difficult to watch for sure, but I think that the choice of song and the performers for the tribute couldn't be much better. :clapping:

*CNN UPDATE*

Michael Jackson's two eldest children to pay tribute to father at Grammy Awards

Children had been expected to receive father's lifetime achievement award

Prince Michael, Paris Katherine Jackson were last seen publicly at father's public memorial

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's two eldest children will appear on stage Sunday night during the Grammy show tribute to their father, Jackson's father and others confirmed.

It would be the first public appearance for Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, since their dramatic appearance at the memorial service 12 days after their father's death last summer.

The children were to appear at a much smaller Grammy event Saturday night to accept their father's Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, but Katherine Jackson -- their grandmother and legal guardian -- agreed to the change, a spokesman for the pop star's father said.

Instead, former Jackson manager Frank Dileo made the Saturday night appearance. He also told CNN the Jackson children would be at the Sunday night tribute.

No family members had been invited to take part in either of the Grammy tributes to Michael Jackson until last week when the Jacksons complained, a family source said.

"However, there has been some recent rumors that I am displeased with the idea that Michael's children are accepting the award on my son's behalf," Joe Jackson said in a statement to CNN. "On the contrary, I am very proud of my grandchildren. Katherine and I are the ones who initiated their participation."

The youngest of the three, 7-year-old Blanket, is not expected to attend the show, although that could change, a family source said.

Jackson's oldest son is expected to read a statement on behalf of the family during the Grammy tribute, the source said.

The children will not enter the Los Angeles Convention Center through the media-lined red carpet, the family source said. Instead, they will be escorted backstage by Katherine Jackson, the family source said.

When Paris Katherine Jackson delivered a spontaneous speech at the massive memorial in July, it was the first time the public had heard from the children. They were often hidden by veils or blankets when seen with their father.

"Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine," she said. "And I just want to say that I love him so much."

Recording Academy President Neil Portnow, who oversees the Grammy show, said Sunday night's Jackson tribute will be "an extraordinarily emotional, moving and fitting tribute."

Singers Carrie Underwood and Smokey Robinson are among several stars who will take part in the musical tribute.

A segment of a 3-D video produced by Jackson shortly before his death will be shown. It was based on his pro-environment "Earth Song" for use in his "This Is It" tour.

Michael Jackson was 50 years old when he died June 25, 2009, just two weeks before he was to begin a long series of comeback shows in London.

The Los Angeles County coroner ruled his death a homicide resulting from a combination of drugs, primarily Propofol and Lorazepam.

A criminal investigation has focused on Dr. Conrad Murray, his personal physician who was with him when he died, although no charges have been filed.

Let's see if this will happen or not. Who knows. I'm fine with them not appearing at all as well.

Michael Jackson, Leonard Cohen win special Grammys

Reuters | 01/31/2010 4:28 PM

LOS ANGELES– Michael Jackson won yet another posthumous honor on Saturday, joining 6 other musicians including Leonard Cohen and Loretta Lynn who received Grammy awards for lifetime achievement.

But Jackson's family, whose members rarely turn down an opportunity to share his spotlight, did not attend the ceremony at the Wilshire Ebell Theater, despite speculation that some of his children might accept the statuette on his behalf.

Instead, Jackson's former manager, Frank DiLeo, did the honors, describing the pop star as "a funny guy, he had a sense of humor like none of you ever knew."

Jackson, who died of a drug overdose last year, aged 50, won 13 Grammys in his lifetime.

An unshaved Cohen, sporting a fedora and bolo tie, wryly noted that he never won a Grammy for any of his recordings.

"As we make our way toward the finish line that some of us have already crossed, I never thought I'd get a Grammy award. In fact, I was always touched by the modesty of their interest," he said to loud applause.

The 75-year-old Canadian folk poet did receive a Grammy 2 years ago as one of the featured artists on Herbie Hancock's surprise album of the year winner.

As a bonus, he recited the lyrics of his comic tune "The Tower of Song" featuring such lines as "I was born like this, I had no choice. I was born with the gift of a golden voice."

Bobby Darin, the man behind such hits as "Mack the Knife" and "Splish Splash," was another posthumous winner. The award was accepted by his son, Dodd, who tearfully recalled that his father knew "he wouldn't be around for the long haul."

Bobby Darin, who had been born with a heart defect, died after surgery in 1973 when he was 37 and his only son 12.

Noting that his father would be 73 now, Dodd Darin told Reuters that his father could have followed a similar trajectory to Tony Bennett, "connecting with 25-year-olds."

"Had he lived I think he would be performing and producing other artists. He loved music. I think he'd still be very active. He never had any quit in him," he said.

Age was also no impediment for another honoree, 95-year-old blues guitarist David "Honeyboy" Edwards, who just completed a European tour. "I can still knock 'em dead," he said.

Another veteran, 89-year-old jazz trumpeter Clark Terry was also honored.

Country star Loretta Lynn, marking her 50th anniversary in the music business this year, was a last-minute no-show because her brother was ill. The award was accepted by her twin daughters, Peggy and Patsy Lynn.

Classical pianist, conductor and composer Andre Previn was prevented by ill-health from accepting his award, but sent in a video message.

Michael Jackson's Kids Will Speak at the Grammys

Sat., Jan. 30, 2010 8:00 AM PST by Ashley Fultz
The King of Pop's progeny will be represented at the Grammy Awards.

A source close to the Jackson family exclusively tells E! News that, as of late Friday evening, Michael Jackson's three children will not only attend the Grammys on Sunday, but will take the stage during the planned tribute to the pop icon to "read some sort of speech" about him.

As we reported earlier, several other members of the Jackson family are already planning to be in the audience at Los Angeles' Staples Center.

Céline Dion, Carrie Underwood and Usher are among those who will be participating in the Jackson tribute.

Janet Jackson presided over a muscial tribute to her older brother, who died last June, at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

No family members had been invited to take part in either of the Grammy tributes to Michael Jackson until last week when the Jacksons complained, a family source said.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/3...tion=cnn_latest

1) Why the hell does Joe need a spokesperson for? I thought he was asking the estate for money for food...how is he gonna pay a spokesperson when he can't buy food

2) The story changed yet again..2 days ago oxman & joe were complaining no family members were invited to the Grammys...now his spokesperson is saying they weren't invited to participate in the tribute?
Did he expect them to ask Jermaine to sing or something?

I knew all along Joe & oxman were lying when they claimed on friday they weren't invited to attend the show because during the conference call the grammy producer said he did not know who in the family would be there, but they were invited.

I am hoping in their desire to PARTICIPATE IN THE TRIBUTE, they did not pressure the kids to get publicly involved.

because yesterday, joe said:

"I am very proud that my son, Michael Jackson, is a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Grammy," Joe Jackson said in a statement Saturday. "However, there [have] been some recent rumors that I am displeased with the idea that Michael's children are accepting the award on my son's behalf. On the contrary, I am very proud of my grandchildren. Katherine and I are the ones that [have] initiated their participation."

So this did not come about at the kids' request.

Re: Grammt Tribute Rehearsal video :)

I swear I just started to cry over the rehearsals video, damn so emotional :(

Frank is a very reliable source and the kids are going to attend .

who else believes jermaine & Latoya ana others maybe are asking the grammy producers to be let on stage with the kids so they could provide 'emotional support' ? I hope Katherine ONLY stand there beside them , because these FOUR people were indeed the most precious individuals in MJ's life .
