Häkkinen becomes a driver manager

Former double F1 champion Mika Häkkinen is to embark on a career as a driver manager. The Finn has joined Aces Management Group where he'll work with his old manager Didier Coton.

Häkkinen is going to be working on finding and developing young, talented drivers.

"This is an extremely challenging new project and a big responsibility," Häkkinen said. "From my own experience I know what it takes to reach the top and how vital it is to a driver to have a close group of trusted professionals around him."

Kimi and Massa given equal chances again

Kimi Raikkonen is getting ready to face the new challenges.

- I believe next year slick tyres will be the key factor in the title hunt. At the moment though, we can only try them with the old car. We have to wait until January for the new car before we know how much better the slicks will handle, Raikkonen spelucated on Sunday at Mugello.

- I'm sure the new car next year will suite better my driving style. The cars designed under the new regulations should also make races more interesting and we should see more overtaking.

Felipe Massa is also happy to see the grippy slicks return to F1.

- Slick tyres is definitely the best rule change for the next season. The new tyres improve grip significantly and it'll be easier to try to overtake.

Raikkonen was playing a supporting role to Massa for the last two races, but the Brazilian knows that at the beginning of the next season he'll be on his own again.

- Kimi and I will be treated equally again next year in Melbourne. That's the right way to do it.

- The season start wasn't too easy for me. We were unlucky in Australia, and in Malaysia I made a mistake. But surely that wasn't the end of the world. I knew we had a magnificent car, very strong team, and that we were working well together with Kimi.

- Last year I didn't have the opportunity to fight for the title at the end of the season, but this year I had. The way the season ended was very exciting and I had no chance but to accept that even after winning a race you might lose it, Massa philosophised.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raikkonen admits he didn't give his best

The F1 season of Kimi Raikkonen ended up in a disappointment as the 2007 world champion finished only third in the final standings.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton grabbed the title with a minimal margin before Raikkonen's team mate Felipe Massa. Raikkonen admits it was difficult to keep up the motivation in the closing stages of the season as he couldn't drive flat out. Team mate Massa was fighting for the title all the way up to the season finale.

- You know it yourself when you're driving for third place and basically unable to do anything, so you won't even drive the whole race with the same pace as you would normally, Raikkonen admits to MTV3.

- Of course if you're fighting for a position, you'll try as long as you can, like I did in Brazil. And if you're not actually allowed to overtake anyone and such, that's not too interesting, Raikkonen continues.

Raikkonen wants gradually to forget the 2008 season. He's confindent about the future and believes that the Italian squad will get their car into a better shape for the next season.

- Surely, it's not the same when you're in a good position for the championship and actually driving for it. I'm quite sure we'll get a strong season next year. Let's try and improve, Raikkonen says.

Ferrari delighted of Kimi's honest attitude :):):):yes::yes::D:D:D:punk::punk:

The F1 season ended last weekend, but the drivers' work with the media and the sponsors continues. Ferrari's spokesman Luca Colojanni is happy with the job Kimi Raikkonen is doing outside the races.

- Kimi is a true professional. He always follows the schedules given by the media and the sponsors, Colojanni said to MTV3.

Especially in Italy people are often baffled by Kimi's way with words as he doesn't speak too much.

- It's true that he's not the most talkative person in the world. There are also good sides in it. When he has something to say, he really says it and won't start playing with the words. I like working with Kimi. He's a nice guy, :D:punk:Colojanni stated.

Through the already ended 2008 season the Italian press occasionally critisised Raikkonen's performances with some harsh words. This hasn't surprised the Ferrari team.

- This season was tough for him and critisism did increase. We knew to expect it as this is how it's always been, Colojanni expressed.

Before leaving Ferrari's spokesman yet again gave praise to Kimi's faithful and honest attitude.

- The picture you get from Kimi is real. He's not showing off. He's not putting on any special role for the media or when he's being friendly to people. Even if he was in bad mood he behaves professionally. There's nothing to improve,:yes:Colojanni convinced.

^ I can't wait for next year! What a quiet winter we'll have with no races to comment on.. :bugeyed:(

Pausini says thank you's to Kimi on her new album

Italy's favorite female artist Laura Pausini thanks Kimi Räikkönen in her new Primavera In anticipo-album's booklet.

Revealed as a great Ferrari-fan Laura has been seen on several occasions during the races waving from Ferrari's depot. Primavera In anticipo will be released November 19 and it's her first album in four years that has new Italian-speaking material.

Laura's career began 15 years ago in San Remo Song Contest, and her albums has been sold to this date more than 35 million copies.

In addition, Laura has been rewarded twice in Latin Grammy's and in 2006 Grammy's.

In Finland, enjoying enormous popularity, the singer has been awarded numerous gold plates, and she has appeared on numerous occasions in front of sold out audiences.

Haha I didn't know she's a fan.. :)

^^^To be honest, I haven't heard about this singer at all. I searched for her biography and some songs. I like the songs I've heard so far. I'm glad she thanked Kimi. I'd do the same if I were to release an album (I'd say thank you to Michael and Kimi ). :)

Yeah, I was thinking about too how hard it will be for me/us without races... I have to get used to it though.:( But we'll have the FIA Gala in early December and Kimi will be testing in December for a couple of days. We'll have some - hopefully - good news about him/Ferrari.

Ferrari has already begun the winter testing with Luca Badoer.

Ferrari test car called F2008K

Ferrari's winter test car, based on the 2008 car, will be designated 'F2008K'.

It is believed the 'K' is a reference to the incoming KERS for 2009.

According to sources, the F2008K will be able to run in several key specifications; ranging from using ballast to simulate the weight of the energy-recovery technology, to eventually a fully operational KERS.

The car is set to make its imminent debut at Ferrari's own local test circuit Fiorano, and also in Luca Badoer's hands in Barcelona next week.

I found this disgusting from Barrichello... Why he let them do it with him??? (for a hell of a lot money I guess, so I think it would be wiser of him if he could shut his mouth up for God's sake!) Since he has left Ferrari we didn't hear anything else but these things... It's not nice. OK, I can understand that some things were not good/fair but anyway... he did it many many years, right? Why he didn't left the team in the first or second years?

Barrichello to reveal Ferrari truths one day

Rubens Barrichello has hinted he might eventually write some revealing memoirs about his Formula One career.

Speaking from an awards night in Sao Paulo, the 36-year-old Brazilian was reacting to a recent controversy that highlighted the tense relationship he shared with Michael Schumacher and Ferrari as a race driver with the Italian team.

"The public does not know even half of the story about what I experienced with Ferrari," Barrichello said.

"Perhaps they will be able to read the truth one day in a book," Barrichello, whose future is in serious doubt following the expiry of his Honda contract, hinted.

He said the 'right time' for him to reveal the details of his experiences 'will come'.

lol

I don't want to believe that there would've happened something that horrible. I think it's just Barichello who wants attention and money and is bitter for not being a great driver :pth:

Interesting...

Alexander Wurz saying that how he hates the tires and how it would've been terrible to him to drive with them this year and he would've been slaughtered in qualifications like last year. He said that it's almost impossible to get the right amount of heat to the tires in one lap and that he suffers just like Kimi and Heidfeild with them. He said that they are forced drive differently, unnaturally which is really hard for any driver.

He also said that Kimi is a tremendously fast qualifier and the fastest driver he has ever worked with. He has worked with many drivers like Montoya, Häkkinen, Fischella and Rosberg. He's saying that Kimi suffers the most because of the tires. He's also mentioning that the tire heat problem even grew out from the qualification issues and how Kimi needed at least 4-5 laps to get them working. And when he got he was the fastest man out there. Wurz thinks that with working tires Kimi is still the fastest man in the world.

Then Bridgestone's technical director tries to avoid all the blames and is trying to explain how the tires have been the same during the season and how Kimi had no problems with them during the first half of the season (yeah right...). He said that in some races the weather was colder than expected which hit Ferrari a bit.

Former F1 head designer said that it's true that Kimi never got most out of the tires but that the development of the Ferrari eventually turned against him. He's also saying the regular that how he's one of the biggest talents F1 has ever had, if not the best. He's still blaming him a bit tho, for not trying to solve the problems like Schumacher would've done. :(He's saying that drivers like Webber and Rosberg also suffered because of the Bridgestones but not so much. That's why he's wondering why such a great driver as Kimi had to dig so deeply during the season. :(

He's also mentioning that the development of the car didn't suit Kimi and that it's never a good thing when the driver needs to drive unnaturally and against his instincts.

And then Domenicali says that Kimi indeed suffered from the tires and the car not fitting him perfectly. He said that Kimi hasn't lost his speed at all and if they can supply a working tires and a car what fits him he'll be back in the place he belongs, at the front. He said that Massa has been improving a lot and he's able to beat the best, but
he still thinks that Kimi is the best driver in F1-sport. :punk::punk::punk::punk::clapping::clapping:

^^^wow, it's really nice of Domenicali though it's not so nice to Felipe.

Well definitely not nice for Massa lol, but he didn't say anything we wouldn't know already did he, that Kimi is still the fastest driver... :cheeky: His talent hasn't disappeared anywhere.

^^^yeah, it's more than great to hear this from Kimi's boss as a Kimi fan! Yes, we knew it already but some people seem to forget it. I so hope Kimi would remind them in 2009!!!! :)

Kimi is amazing, that raw, natural talent he has is really incredible, isn't it? I wonder what other pilots could have done with a car that didn't suit their driving style. As the article says he had to force himself to drive in an other way which is unnatural and against his instincts. Plus there was the tyre heating issue. During every race in the first couple of laps Kimi was slow but later when they were at the right temperature he was the fastest! Almost all the time! I don't know whether he had done everything to get the things right or not (I hope he did and so did the team) but I think it's not fair to compare him with Schumacher. It's not fair to compare Schumi with anyone because he's at another level. Nobody was, is and will be as passionate and workaholic like Schumi was.

Sorry I just have to post this, it's a song made by our legendary commentator Matti Kyllönen's comments
You don't of course understand the words, I wish you could because it's soooo funny! I think there's a song that includes Räikkönen too (this was made in -98 or -99 when Häkkinen won the championship)

Matti Kyllönen is really the most legendary commentator in Finland, he has certain phrases he always uses and he speaks with such funny words I always laugh when I listen to him during the races :D

Once, when he was talking about one driver's wife, he said: "Is that his wife? Yes, she is, I almost didn't regognize her with clothes on. I mean with the wig on" lol

^^^OMG!!! That was sooooo funny! I liked it very much. Of course I didn't understand a word but still. I loved his accent and how he pronounced Häkkinen's name. That's classic!

Here is a mix with our commentator, László Palik. The song is the same  He's very funny too.

A fan on the Official KR forum wrote this. I think he's right! :

We have to take into account not only the sharpness of Schumacher, but also how long he has been with the team and how the team knows what he wants and how he wants, quite well. Whenever Schumacher had challenged for WDCs, he had an advantage of being with that team for a long period of time. Both Benetton and Ferrari (in fact, lot of Ferrari guys came from Benetton) know Schumacher well, he was their focus and they designed their cars for him. The core concept of both F2007 and F2008 had been started even before Ferrari signed up Kimi, so quite a bit before knowing Kimi. F2009 would be a totally new design that would be started from scratch. They would have a good idea of Kimi and I expect Kimi to drive his best F1 car in the coming years. :D:yes:So there are lot of things that go with this notion.

F2008 and F2007 have always been on the edge for Kimi. Solving these problems, IMO, is not easy. You only have limited time to try when it comes to playing around with set-ups. Even the most talented would/can fail. 3 GPs is all it needed to throw Kimi out of touch with leaders needing to catch up. :(By 4th race (Germany to Spa), he had the car under some sort of control.

Kimi parties in Levi

Räikkönen, who spends his holiday on November was seen this weekend in Levi where he was watching slalom's world cup. On Friday he attended vip -occasion where he partied with Finnish skier Kalle Palander. On Saturday Kimi was watching women's slalom and according to Mtv3's information, after that he celebrated in Carlsbert -restaurant. (I read from magazine he said it's nice to be there because it's unlikely that anyone will regognize him there)

Räikkönen will drive F1 tests next in December. During this winter Kimi is about to do more testing than last year so the Ferrari would be more suitable for him than last season's car.

Loeb to join F1 test with Red Bull

Five-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb will drive for Red Bull Racing in an official Formula One test at Barcelona later this month.

The Frenchman, who sealed his fifth successive title in Japan on Sunday, will have a preliminary shake down at Silverstone prior to the test in Spain.

Loeb drove Renault's F1 car in a demonstration test at Paul Ricard last year and is no stranger to circuit racing, having driven Pescarolo's LMP1 car in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2005 and 2006.

He is looking forward to the more serious Red Bull outings, which have been arranged through his Citroen WRC team's partnership with the energy drinks firm.

"I'm absolutely delighted by this present from Red Bull to celebrate my fifth title," he said. "I already got the chance to test a Formula One car last year, but this time the circumstances will be a little different.

"I'm now going to find myself in the midst of all the regular F1 drivers during an official test. I just hope that I don't make a fool of myself!

"I'd like to clear up any speculation about me possibly switching to F1 next year, I'm definitely going to be driving a Citroen C4 WRC in the World Rally Championship."

Axl Rose thanks Kimi
4.11.2008

Kimi is praised on Guns N´ Roses' new album.

Kimi Räikkönen and Axl Rose met for the first time in 2006. The meeting was memorable for both of them.

Many fans will rub their eyes when they see the Guns N' Roses' new album Chinese Democracy and the text inside of it. Kimi is one of the persons Axl Rose thanks for the new album..

Kimi is in cool company because also Metallica's drummer Lars Ulrich is mentioned.

Axl Rose doesn't specify why he thanks these persons. The two of them (Kimi and Axl) have been partying and spending the night together at least a couple of times.

Kimi and Axl met for the first time in Silverstone GP 2006 when Axl Rose was McLaren's guest..

- He is a great guy and I also like his band's music, Kimi said back then.

Ferrari treated Rubens fairly - Schumacher

Michael Schumacher has responded to reports that Rubens Barrichello plans to one day publish a book of revealing memoirs about his time at Ferrari.

Barrichello, 36, spent six years as Schumacher's team-mate at the Italian team, during which time the German secured five of his seven drivers' titles.

In the same period, Barrichello won just nine races, but Schumacher has rejected claims the Brazilian was not given a fair chance to succeed.

"Nobody can make you slower because of a contract," he told the Cologne newspaper Express.

"If you are fast, you are fast, and then you are the number one."

Canadian GP ends negotiations :(

Negotiations to maintain the Canadian Grand Prix have failed and further efforts will no longer take place.

That is the situation confirmed at a press conference held Sunday by Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay and the Québec province's Minister of Economic Development, Raymond Bachand, accompanied by former Federal Minister Michael Fortier who stayed on the team as a negotiator.

Following weeks of talks with Formula One CEO Bernie Ecclestone and the many efforts provided by the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, including a special 1% room tax coming from Montreal's hotel association, a final offer was presented last Thursday to save Formula One's only North American round.

An agreement could not be reached, and therefore no Canadian Grand Prix will be held for the foreseeable future.

Several economic plans were worked upon yet Ecclestone never wavered from his initial demands which consisted of a guarantee totaling $141m (US currency) over the next five years, "despite the economic situation which exists in the world today," mentioned Bachand. No one would offer such a guarantee, he added.

The only feasible plan for the Canadian GP was an amount topped at $89m to cover the period until 2013, with 75% of the eventual revenue going to FOM in addition to its exclusive trackside revenues. However, that plan was denied as well, prompting the government officials to throw in the towel. "Our last economic card is on the table," said Minister Bachand.

"We are so far from what he (Ecclestone) is asking - that is why we find ourselves where we are today," stated Bachand, who indicated that other "enthusiastic" organisations such as the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil also refused to participate in a rescue plan whose economic demands seemed unrealistic.

"We are satisfied that we tried everything possible," said Mayor Tremblay.

Ecclestone has been concentrating on higher-paying venues in light of the debt owed by F1's owner, CVC Capital. The Asian markets have been benefiting from this need at the expense – literally – of traditional destinations.

With the withdrawal of the French and Canadian rounds, the 2009 Formula One calendar now counts 17 races. In contrast, Ecclestone is seeking to find a solution for the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, which has been losing money and is uncertain of renewing its contract beyond 2010 – some reports indicate that even the 2009 Chinese race is in doubt.:(

As for any Canadian GPs in the future, "unless Mister Ecclestone changes his mind before the final calendar on December 1st, it's over," declared Bachand.

^ I really hope the Chinese gp will stay in the calendar at least for next season! We will soon have only 10 races when every race drops out one by one :bugeyed

Yeah, I'm really sorry because both Montreal and Magny-Cours has very traditional tracks. They were good for the drivers, I bet they liked them better than for example the Valencia cirquit. And it's also true for Silverstone. :( It's obvious that Bernie wants money, money, and money and doesn't care about the drivers and what F1 should be about... :( Almost all the traditional tracks slightly dissapear from the calendar. :(

The Canadian people are right and Mr. Ecclestone should understand that the world is not the same anymore. The economical crisis has reached almost every country and he should realise that it reached the F1 world also. :(

Ooh, what a shame Kimi had to retire, he started at 3rd place for the race :) That's pretty good.

Really? I had no clue what they were talking about...:D

Ecclestone proposes medals in F1

Bernie Ecclestone is planning to revolutionise the scoring system in Formula 1 by introducing gold, silver and bronze medals instead of championship points.

In Ecclestone’s vision the driver with the most race wins would become world champion, doing away with the need for points to decide the title outcome.

The F1 supremo claims his plans have wide support and says he is confident the new scoring system will be in place in time for next year's season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

“The FIA and all the teams are behind it and it will be done,” he told The Times.

“Everybody understands gold medals and silver and bronze.Nearly all sports are done that way.

The whole point will be, when they get to Melbourne for the first race, the guys will want to leave there with a gold medal. They don't want to leave with 10, eight or six points.”

Under Ecclestone’s proposed medal system, Lewis Hamilton would have lost this year’s championship by a single win to Felipe Massa.

Ecclestone believes that putting the emphasis on race victories will lead to more overtaking at the front, as drivers would not benefit from driving conservatively to bolster their points tallies.

“The need for it [a medal system] was highlighted at the Brazilian Grand Prix at the end of this season when Hamilton only had to finish in the top five to win the title, not win," he said.

"So this will encourage overtaking.”

For the change to go ahead it will need the FIA’s approval at the next meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in December.

OMGGGGGGG I would love that!:clapping: It would definitely do only good for F1 imo, encouraging to overtake like Bernie said.
How sad it wasn't done already for this season, then that * Hamilton wouldn't have won ...

I keep my fingers crossed it gets through the council

^^^yeah, I was about to post this article. I don't really know what to think about it. First it sounds a bit strange but it would give the drivers bigger challenge to fight for the win or for better positions.

BMW-TESTER critisices new F1 car's appearance

The BMW F1-team test driver Christian Klien spared no words while talking about the ugliness in next year's aerodynamics rules-built BMW car. The car was seen the first time in the winter tests opening on Monday

- For me it is currently the worst F1 car I have ever seen, Klien said about the car's appearance, according to Autosport.com.

- But you'll get used to it. There will also be lots of changes before the first race in March, he continued.

This is not a BMW's final car, it's but interim which has been edited from this year's car that fits to next season rules. BMW presents their next season's car in 20 January.

The car is compared to the previous higher and narrower rear wing, as well as wider and lower front wing. All the extra wings have been removed from the car. Grooved tyres have been exchanged to slick tyres.

From Klien the car got much higher rating from its driving characteristics than the appearance. Especially the slicks were fine.

- It's actually quite good to drive. Lap times were quite good. There's much less downforce but slick tyres replace it. Especially on slow corners, slick tyres give more grip, Klien said.
