^^^That move was soooooo cute! It was during the after-qualifying press conference in Interlagos this year. It was when Kimi said that they should finish 1 and 2 and the rest is not up to them anymore. They need some luck.... and then Massa pat Kimi's shoulder and said he needs some luck from Kimi from last year. But it was so ridiculous... It was like Massa pat a pet, like a cat for example... :lmao:

Great interview with Kimi from Top Gear Magazine

How old were you when you first became interested in cars / speed / racing?
Right from when I was very little, I was interested in anything that had an engine. If I had not become a driver, I would certainly have been a mechanic.

Growing up, which drivers do you remember watching and who were you impressed by?
I never had a hero or an idol. My friends tell me I should have raced in the Seventies when maybe Formula 1 was less formal and I would definitely liked to have known James Hunt.

When did you think you might become pretty good yourself and why?
That’s not for me to say. I always wanted to be a racing driver and I gave it everything I had to do that. From then on, it’s my results that speak for me.

Wouldn’t it make sense if all testing was banned? More time for snowmobiling, less expensive for the teams and still the same for everybody!
No, I’d be asked to spend more time on the simulator! But joking aside, I think the current situation is pretty well balanced. We don’t test as much as we used to a few years back and we work more efficiently.

But that’s unlikely, so what do you find most useful about testing, personally?
I just love driving a Formula 1 car, which means I even like testing.

While you’re testing and racing, how aware are you of the part you play in helping develop new technologies, like Shell V-Power, for example?
In a sport as finely honed as Formula 1, where the difference between first and last is measured in tenths of a second, you have to push to the limits in terms of car development, in all areas. As far as the engine is concerned, we are currently in a particularly special stage, where development on certain components is frozen for a few years. This means we can have a fuel or an engine oil that gives us a few horsepower more, a gearbox oil that improves lubrication and makes such an important component more reliable and that is a really vital point.

What was your most satisfying Grand Prix win ever?
Hard to say as all the wins are great. Of course, the first one and the one in Interlagos last year which meant I was world champion will always stay with me.

What were your main reasons for joining Ferrari from McLaren?
Simply a desire to change after so many years with the same team. I felt comfortable at McLaren, just as I feel comfortable at Ferrari. The two teams are different because of their different character, but both share a common desire to get the very best results.

Is Ferrari just another team for you or does the immense history and list of its previous great drivers ever cross your mind? Does Ferrari feel different in this way?
There is definitely a special atmosphere at Maranello and you can feel the special appeal of a marque that is part of racing history. It’s nice and I’m proud to be part of this history.

Many fans don’t understand how much the driver does during a race. Can you talk us through some of the things you have to do while racing – brake adjustments, driving around problems etc…
That’s true, from the outside it is difficult to understand all the details of what happens on track. First and foremost there is so much work that one does along with the engineers when the car is in the garage: defining the set up, the day’s work programme, strategies. Then, when you are sitting in the cockpit, there are so many parameters you can control: the brake balance, some engine and electrical parameters, the gearbox. Then there are unexpected situations such as the arrival of the safety car and specific moments that require you to go through complex programmes such as the start. This year, with the introduction of a standard electronic control unit, there are slightly less things to do, but next year, new parameters will come into play, such as the electronic control of the flap on the front wing and the boost switches linked to the energy accumulated through the KERS system.

What makes a great driver, in your view?
In the end what matters are the result, but one has to take into account that in the current Formula 1, the car remains the dominant factor. Without a competitive car, you can’t win, no matter how talented you are.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Driving and racing to win – there’s nothing else.:yes::yes:

And the worst?
Speaking in public?? Honestly, it’s not a strong point of mine, but I know it’s part of my job and I have to accept it as such.:cheeky:

^^^I liked these last 2 answers very much! Kimi-style...:D If he hadn't said anything we would have answered the questions the same way I guess.

New cars will have high tension warnings:

and Ferrari cars will have the sign for the constructor's championship again. Though sorrily Kimi won't have the sign for the driver's championship on his overall. I hope it would be only for next year and in 2009 he would get it back where it belongs to! :)

It's a shame...:( Maybe better luck next time!

Imagine, I really don't know anything about ice-hockey and today I asked a great colleague of mine to explain the rules and such. OMG! I got very excited... I'll watch at least one match from the beginning till the end. Who knows? Maybe I'll love it. I love lots of sports why not ice-hockey?... It seems our national team is quite good nowadays considering the fact that we are not a winter sports' nation at all.:cheeky: My colleague told me that our national team has won the division 1 so they'll be in group A with the best ones (Finland, Canada, Sweden, Russia, etc.) in the world championship. I'll definitely watch those matches! :)

All the 17 victories' celebration from Kimi in one wallpaper! :) Hope he'll have so many in his F1 career that couldn't be on one wallpaper... :cheeky:

Yayy so then we can talk about ice hockey when not F1!! I'm sure you're gonna love it, it's so addictive and really EXCITING! I'm actually even more passionate ice-hockey fan than formule fan.

really???!!! I didn't know that.

I find only 16.. :bugeyed

oh, you are right! There are only 16 on this picture. The one from Suzuka 2005 is missing... (I can see one trophy from Spa but I can't decide is it from 2004 or 2005... LOL and I can see one smiling pic of him without trophy and that one cannot be from Suzuka because of the hair style, so that is the other Spa victory.) Isn't it interesting that during the 5 years at McLaren Kimi had (only) 9 victories and at Ferrari during the 2 years he had 8?

Good that you know all the wins by his hair style  I could never remeber from a picture where was it :bugeyed

And yes, those statistics are very interesting, they tell something about the teams imo.

LOL not all of them, but the Suzuka win from 2005 is special because of how he won it (you know he started from the 17th position) and I taped it (it was good because it was very early in the morning and I was like:wild: OMG and later they repeated it in the afternoon and I had to tape it) and watched it several times so I know how he looked like back then and I know how the trophy looked like. :cheeky:

F1 driver Mark Webber seriously hurt

November 22, 2008 02:41pm

AUSTRALIAN Formula One racer Mark Webber has been seriously injured when he was hit by a car while competing in his multisport challenge in Tasmania.

Webber, who drives for F1's Red Bull team, was cycling along Fortesque Bay Road, near Port Arthur on the Tasman peninsula, when he and a Nissan X-Trail vehicle collided, Tasmania Police Sergeant Jon Ford said.

Sgt Ford said Webber was competing in his own charity event, the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge, a 250km challenge using mountain bikes, kayaks and trekking, when the accident happened abotu 12.40pm (AEDT).

"As a result of the collision, the rider, Mark Webber, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries," Sgt Ford said.

"He was attended at the scene by paramedics attached to the event before being airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital."

Sgt Ford said the event was being raced on open public roads and it was not known whether the stage along Fortesque Bay Road was cordoned off specifically for the racers.

The male driver of the Nissan X-trail escaped injury but no further details were known about the motorist, he said.

Webber was competing on the penultimate day of the five-day challenge, which also includes abseiling and whitewater rafting.

I was scared when they showed pics of him laying on the stretchers, I thought something had happened during F1 testing.
Luckily it's nothing that threats his life.

^^^yeah, I've heard about this. I hope he gets better soon! :)

Imagine! There's a F1 quiz at the official KR forum and I won the competition. The rule is that the winner should do the next quiz... I'm very excited. What should I ask? Do you have any idea?

The following questions were at the last quiz:

1. When was the closest formula one race finish? Who were the drivers? And what was the gap between them?
2. Who was the driver that also known as the "ringmeister = ringmaster"? And why?
3. During the 70's who was the team owner that refused to run with any sponsorship on his cars?
4. Who is the driver that has the fastest average speed in one lap during the formula1 history?
5. Who was the first driver with Number (0) as his car number?
6. Alonso made a jump from 15th to 1st place in Singapore GP, season 2008, but who is the driver that done the biggest jump of all (of the current drivers) at which race and what year?
7. How many races have there been no retirements (0 retirements)? Name them.
8. Who was the driver that has the lowest scoring point amount ever in the formula one?
9. How many races have finished behind the safety car?
10. TIE-BREAK Question: What is ECU? And what does it control?

I'll tell you if I have some questions in my mind.

^^^I'm not, it's allowed to use the internet (google and wikipedia) though the searching can last long... :)

I'm ready with the quiz

Do you think they would be good enough? Any suggestions?

1. Which was the 3rd most watched sporting event in the world in 2005?

2. Which year at which GP was the launch of traction control allowed again?

3. Who was the driver that was stripped of his 3rd place finish after the FIA determined that his fuel was not the correct formula? Which year, at which GP?

4. Which is the longest sustained hard cornering in F1? What are its characteristics?

5. Why did Colin Chapman named his cars Lotus?

6. In which year launched Tyrrell its 6-wheeled-cars?

7. Who fell into the sea during the race in Monte Carlo? Which year?

8. Who was the driver whose car ran out of fuel on the last lap and instead of retiring he got out of his car and tried to push it to the finish? Which year, at which GP?

9. In which year which team's car was the first one that had the combination of a semi-automatic gearbox with traction control?

10. TIE-BREAK question: What is FISA?

Teams consider new qualifying format

A proposal for a new qualifying format for 2009 could be tabled at the forthcoming meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council.

According to widespread media sources, the new system - featuring a new session format, as well as possible prize-money and a point for pole position - is championed by the alliance of F1 teams, FOTA.

They have committed to discussing the proposal in more detail at a meeting early next month.

The website of the Spanish newspaper Marca reveals that, under the new system, all 20 cars would enter the circuit with low levels of fuel for a 14-lap sprint, with the slowest car eliminated after each lap.

During a short break, the surviving six cars will then return to the pits for new tyres and fuel and then compete for pole position and a world championship point.

If agreed by FOTA, the proposal would then require ratification by the World Motor Sport Council.

:bugeyed:bugeyed:doh::doh: I don't know whether is it a good idea or not....

^ Hmm... Well, I like that part where they say a pole position holder would get one championship point, that would be good if also the point system changes so that you got only points from winning.
But that all drivers on the cirquit at the same time? That doesn't sound good... I see traffic..

That's good, great questions! I don't know any of the answers :D

Well, it's not so good news for Kimi when they want to give 1 point for pole position. He's not so good at qualifying since he's at Ferrari. McLaren was much better for him I guess. Let's wait and see what 2009 would bring. I so hope they would solve his problems!!! They should! They have to!!!

About the questions... you know if you type the key words in the browser you'll find the answers quite easily! :)

Have you heard the good news? David Coulthard is a dad!!!

"The recently-retired Formula One veteran David Coulthard is a father.

The 37-year-old Scot's fiancee Karen Minier, a Belgian who was formerly a F1 reporter for the French broadcaster TF1, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Friday.

The name of the child is Dayton, so he will be the 2nd DC! :)

Coulthard, who contested 247 Grand Prix, most recently for Red Bull, joked earlier this year: "He'll be signed up for Ferrari in 2028!"

Ecclestone: Medal system next year!

Bernie Ecclestone has declared that his controversial medal system to decide the Formula One world drivers' champion will be introduced next year. Speaking at the announcement of a technology partnership between F1 and Korean electronics giant LG in London today, Ecclestone said he expects his plan to be ratified at the next FIA World Motorsport Council meeting.

"It's going to happen," said Ecclestone. "All the teams are happy. The whole reason for this was that I was fed up with people talking about no overtaking. The reason there's no overtaking is nothing to do with the circuit or the people involved, it's to do with the drivers not needing to overtake.
"If you are in the lead and I'm second, I'm not going to take a chance and risk falling off the road or doing something silly to get two more points. If I need to do it to win a gold medal, because the most medals win the world championship, I'm going to do that. I will overtake you."

Ecclestone added that his system would promote a more exciting world championship fight.
"This year, we saw on a number of occasions Lewis not overtaking Massa for that reason," said Ecclestone. "If he'd driven for me, tried it and made a mistake, I would have complained. It's just not on that someone can win the world championship without winning a race."

When asked of the timescale for implementing his plan, Ecclestone replied: "Next year. I'm hoping it will be approved at the next FIA meeting."

When then asked if it was fair that someone who wins six races but doesn't finish any others, beats someone who had finished every race in second place, Ecclestone replied: "He'll have to try harder next year."

Under the proposed medal scheme, Felipe Massa rather than Lewis Hamilton would have won this year's world championship with six race victories to Hamilton's five.

Eddie Jordan says medal system is nonsense (I think he's right...)

"Drivers like (Felipe) Massa, who started at the very bottom and worked his way up, know how important those points are at the back of the field," said Jordan.

"Everybody that's involved in the financial side knows how important it is, and the extraordinary excitement that there is for getting a point at the back.

"McLaren and Ferrari are working on a budget of perhaps 250 million, and then you have other teams like Force India and Toro Rosso, who to everyone's surprise won a race this year, who would have maybe ten or eight times less budget to play with, and inferior drivers because they're learning their trade and they will come and be world champions in years to come.

"But they have to find their feet somewhere, and that place has to be in the smaller teams because they're the people who take the risks."

Ecclestone said this morning that he expects the medal system to be ratified by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in December so it can be introduced for the 2009 season, but Jordan said there should be more consultation about the scheme.

"He's tinkering with something that in my opinion he has lost the understanding of," said Jordan.

"He thinks people are only interested in winning the races. I'm sorry, but there's just not enough thought put into this. It should be put to one side and discussed by him and Max Mosley, and for Bernie Ecclestone to say it's coming with the full approval of all the teams, I simply don't believe it."

I honestly think the medal system would be nice.

Aww I didn't know that! Bigg congrats to them ^_^

I honestly think the medal system would be nice.

Well, if we are thinking about it as Kimi fans... this isn't a bad idea. Considering Kimi's bad luck in his whole career and his willingness to win all the time. His seasons were like roller-coasters all the time...
1 win - 1 DNF - 1 win - 1 DNF... etc.
It won't be a problem for him to try to win because that's what he used to do all the time. He didn't interested in being 2nd or 3rd. Only winning was/is important.
So, if he would have 6 DNFs and 6 wins in a season in this system, he still could be a champion, but if they need to score as more points as possible then consistency is much more important (see Kubica's situation this season).

But if we are thinking about little teams... for them 1 or 2 points are as important as the winning for Ferrari or for McLaren.

I'm confused...

I'm just thinking the overall situation in F1 now, I agree with Bernie that it's just stupid that eg this year Hamilton had to finnish only 5th to win the championship though Massa had more wins.
It would bring some life to the races (I'm not saying they aren't interesting now but the truth is they are a bit boring sometimes) when drivers really would have to FIGHT for the win. EVERY time.

But of course, this would be not so good for the little teams but there could be also some pointing system that would help the out little bit.. I just dont have any idea what could it be.. :D

I agree that nowadays there are less overtakings but see what Kimi wrote last year after Turkish GP.

This is Formula 1 at this moment. You're quite a chief when you drive ahead. With today's cars built to fit the rules you just can't drive behind the other one and look out for a place to overtake. The air isn't there. When you try to get close enough the car just starts pushing in a senseless way.

You should be at least a second faster than the other one or then the one in front of you should make a mistake. Othwerise you don't pass. That's just how it is.
He knows it better because he is in that car and not us and not Bernie. He pretty much summed up the situation about F1 nowadays. So no matter how he tries to overtake if he is not able to! And not because he doesn't want to risk points. He's the only driver out there who would risk the 2nd place and the 8 points to get 1st place and the 10 points. I think he doesn't do it only for the more points, that's not in his mind then but only the winning. Hamilton was the one who said after the half of the season that he's learnt from 2007 that he doesn't have to win all the races just score worthy points.

They'll change the aerodynamics on the cars in order to make overtaking easier. Let's see how it goes next year. That's why I think Bernie should wait what 2009 would bring and then change something if needed. Or give more points for the winner, 12 for example. Then the gap between the 1st and 2nd place points would be bigger. I agree with Eddie Jordan that nowadays the most important thing is to reduce the costs because it'll be hard for little teams to survive.

Here's the album booklet where Axl Rose thanks to Kimi :)
