Formule 1

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!! :ranting:

Why on Earth Ferrari keeps doing these supermassive mistakes?! They're supposed to be the best team in F1!!

Thank God Nico could keep Hamilton behind him, and yes it was nice to have another winner for this season..

And Kimi.. Poor him. He was soooo disappointed after the accident. As a Kimi -fan this is only torture him not having a single point in 6 races! AArrgh!

Basically he doesn't have a chance anymore in winning the championship but Gosh I hope that the last races won't continue this nightmare! I want at least one win, pleease Kimi deserves it!

Who had the fastest lap again?! YEAH.

Oh, Mika Häkkinen celebrated his 40th birthday today. Congrats to him, though I don't feel like celebrating that much right now..

Can you tell what my reaction was? I laughed... Because otherwise I think I might have gone insane... I laughed so hard at the pit stops, that they had to scr*w it up again, I laughed at how much Kimi was heavier than the other 2 in front of him still he managed to do the fastest lap, I laughed when he hit the wall, because one minute earlier I wished this should happen to Hamster, and I almost cried when they showed him after the accident. It was on his face. Once this year (or in his whole career) I saw dissapointment on his face. As if he was thinking: now, it's really over....

Poor baby...  looking in the nowhere.....
krcrashsingaporevg9.png

I think he tried to catch Glock because in that situation the gap between Hamster and him would have increased by only one point. That's why it would have been so vital for him to overtake Glock.

Did you hear what he said after the accident:
He didn't go too fast, his car just bumped to the side of the track in a wrong way and the front of the car jumped and he couldn't do anything about it when the tires were in the air and he crashed.

"As soon as the safety car came, I knew that I was not in a good position. When a driver is second from the teams cars (in the pit stop), then usually he loses quite a lot in it. The race was a little bit over for me at that point already.

-Let's try to win some races. We have quite a good car as long as there would be some luck for once. Of course I made my own mistake, when I crashed to the wall, but I didn't have a chance to win so it didn't matter."

That's the Iceman, that's the Kimi I like. :punk:

He was amazing during the race. I'm quite sure hadn't there been the SC period he could have won it, by miles.:yes::yes: He was faster than Hamster and faster than Massa (and I do believe that he was much heavier than the other 2 guys). He had much more fuel at the 1st pit stop than Massa that's why he could make such a long 2nd stint. He was much heavier (I don't know how many laps he was heavier than Massa because Massa had to visit the pits because of a puncture, too), but Hamster pitted in lap 42 while Kimi in lap 50! 8!!! I mean 8 laps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the mistake (was it his?, not really sure, those awful kerbs may I say)... he had nothing to lose, but the team misses those points...
icon_sad.gif
I think he wasn't pushed too hard because at that point he was not so close to Glock so he said the truth in his interview.

Ferrari as a team s*cks... they ruined Massa's and of course Kimi's race with that incident.

I can't believe that this time again Hamster was the lucky one. If they can't get the things right at the Ferrari team McLaren and Hamster would be the champions.

He has the motivation, no doubt. From the 15th till the 5th position! And where was Massa? He lost it right there in the pits (in other words: he gave up!) while Kimi pushed as hard as he could. That's why I always said that Massa is not WDC material. He only can win when there's no problem and when he's on pole.

10th fastest lap - of course - goes to Kimi (out of 15 races!). He's equalled Schumi's most fastest laps record (like he did it in 2005). I think he'll have this record by the end of this year because 3 races are still remaining.

Q & A with Kimi Raikkonen

Q. What happened?

Kimi Raikkonen: I touched the inside kerb I just bounced off and hit the wall.

Q. Was it a question of losing concentration?

KR: No. I wanted to stay close in places to the Toyota because there were only two places that I could get very close and have any chance if he made a small mistake. That was one - before the back straight I needed to get very close and unfortunately I touched the kerb slightly too much and just when you hit that quite hard you can't turn too much and I couldn't turn any more so I just went a bit wide and hit the wall. Not the tyre wall, but the plastic blocks and I took the wheel off.

Q. Is this the end for your championship hopes?

KR: It was a pretty small chance anyhow. I'm not sad for my fifth place but I'm sorry for the team to lose those points. But for sure we'll try to do better next race.

Q. How did the rest of the race go?

KR: At the beginning of the race there were a couple of difficult laps but then the car was very good. Then we got the safety car and we had to stop behind Felipe and lost a lot of time. We tried to come back and we were able to get to fifth place and I wanted to go further but we got nothing in the end. I'm not sad for my fifth place, losing that for this error, but for sure for the team it would have been nice to get those points for them. :(

Q. What happened in Felipe's pitstop?

KR: I don't know. I didn't even look. I just tried to get close to him and then he left and the fuel rig was still connected. I don't really know what happened, probably the people who were watching on TV got better views.

Q. Your last victory was in Spain. What are your feelings on going for so long without a win?

KR: It doesn't change anything. I was in a position to try to win, but when the safety car came out the chance was pretty much gone. We've been close a few times but quite often we've been a bit unlucky so we try next race again. I haven't given up. :DWe want to have some good races. We have not had the season we wanted but we have a good spirit. Of course this is not a nice day but I've seen enough in Formula One :punk:and we still have a good car and we should still be able to win some races this year.

Q. Is it a problem to race at a track on which safety cars are so likely?

KR: The safety car rule is very difficult for the people that is in the first 10 because more or less the safety car seems to come always in an area where we need to pit in. Then you really get the penalty or you are lucky because you stopped before the safety car. You lose a lot of places when you have to stop behind the safety car. It's a difficult rule - sometimes it's against you, sometimes it helps you but it's nothing to do with the circuits. It's the rule with the safety car.

Q. Is the car now more to your liking?

KR: The car is usually pretty good in the race, but we still have some work to do to get exactly what we want for one lap. It's definitely been better since we changed back to the parts that we performed well with when we used them in a couple of races this year but on one lap it's still not what we want. We were in a good position today but when the safety car came out it was all gone.

Q. When the safety car came out and you were pitting behind Massa, did you consider staying out for another lap?

KR: I think it wouldn't have made much difference to me. It's best to come in with everyone else and double fuel. You always lose out when you are the second car.

Q. Was the crash caused by a problem of the track?

KR: There is that one chicane where we talk about the kerbs that are very high and if you touch the kerb too much it bounces the whole car in the air.:( There's nothing you can do and the wall is pretty close. I tried to turn and slow down but it just took the wheel off. Not too hard, but it was just enough to take the wheel off.

Q. Lewis Hamilton has seven more points than Felipe. How important will your role be in the next three races.

KR: I know what the team wants - they want to win the world championship. We will see what happens. I'm trying to win races too and we will see what happens. I'm out of the championship anyhow.

Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari (15th):
"I was trying to attack Glock in case he might make a mistake, but I went slightly wide at the chicane, jumping over the kerb and when the car landed, I lost control and ended up in the barriers. My situation in the championship was already rather compromised, so this doesn't really make that much difference but I am unhappy because the team has lost precious points in the constructors' classification. In the opening laps, the car was a bit difficult but then it improved a lot, to such an extent that I was able to close right up to Hamilton. When the Safety Car came out, I know my race was compromised given that I had to pit behind Felipe. I was able to get back up to fifth but then the incident I described earlier happened. Clearly, morale is not high today. But I am not used to giving up and will do my very best to try and help the team reach its targets."

Now, we (all of you) have it! As I said it earlier, that once he hasn't got the chance he'll help the team. That's nice, Kimi! :)

That damned kerb..........

Let's hope so.:clapping:

So it seems we won't be celebrating his title of this year with the 1000th post as we planned with Hanna. *sigh* That's life...:(

^ Yep. I noticed that too... :( Let's just make sure that the 1000th post isn't the one where someone announces Hamilton has won the championship. ( I hate to write it down even if it's not true! heh.. :D )

I don't think we can blame the kerbs this time.. it was his fault, he knew that the kerbs were high on that place.

edit: omg your siggy is soo sad..

yes, it's sad but I'm feeling sad right now. I think Kimi is not sad anymore (if he was at all), he'll fight back and will scare the hell outta Hamilton. He will be a great 2nd driver I guess. But I have a feeling... Hamilton will be the champion and McLaren for the constructors. I don't feel the strength in Massa. He proved my opinion again yesterday. He just messed up everything. Look, what Kimi had done, from 15th till the 5th position. And Massa just spinned, though he was lucky enough to survive. While Kimi made one mistake and bam he hit the wall. Now, tell me about luck... Of course it was his fault, he admitted it too, but hadn't there been the big kerbs him and Fisichella wouldn't have had problems. Those were the big kerbs they had to fix before the race start. At other circuits these kerbs are not so high.

Ya, and Ferrari wouldn't deserve the world title for constructors. They have made awful mistakes, their car is not reliable enough, and most importantly they couldn't fix their reigning world champion's car...

Once this year (or maybe in his whole career) you got to see the Iceman's feelings. They are on his face, it's the body language. Dissapointment, sadness, sorrow, loneliness...:( It breaks my heart to look at those pics. Maybe because it's a rarity to see him like this. I haven't seen such sad pics of him before.:(:(:(

Kinga: oh that is where he had to wait till the end of the race? :(

yeah, isn't it just sad??? That's the typical situation where you could say: OMG, where is a helicopter, take me away from here, now.... Nobody look at me, I don't wanna say anything. But after this he had to go and answer the journalists stupid questions... I bet the first one was the same they asked him at Monza (after an awful result, which is always awful for him if he can't win): Are you satisfied with your race? (But Kimi keeped his cool and said with a forced half-smile: Do you think I am?)

btw, nice avatar, Ági! I like it! :)

Oh...what a stupid question really..journalists can be sometimes so evil..i do not know why is it good for them to ask such stupid and negative question then asking normal ones that have sense.....

thx for the avatar comment :winking2:

yeah, Kimi in a way reminds me of Michael. He really hates media because they twist around things and they lie everytime. He just loves to play tricky games with reporters... I adore him because of this, too.
For example:
Q: Most boring moment?
A: Now.

Q: What is on your iPod?
A: Mostly Finnish music, but you wouldn't know because I won't show you.

Q: What did you do during your holiday?
A: You can read it in your newspaper from last week.

He likes such promo events when children has the chance to ask questions. He likes to be around them and smiles much and answers to the questions in long and nice sentences. He knows that they are honest and what they say they really mean it Just like Kimi.:)

Kimi ----> :better:

^^^yes, it's very very sad. But I'm sure he's ok now. :) He'll bounce back!:punk:

The fact is that maybe it's worse for him because it's the first time he's losing it, in other years he simply didn't win... I don't know how could he survive. The humiliating, the bashing he had to face the whole year from the media, from the so-called fans, from Hamster, etc. These are so unfair because he tried as hard as he could, I know it. But, he's so strong, his strength is enough for at least 2 people IMO.

Look, what Schumi had to say. He's so right and that's the way to look at the Iceman IMO:

Q: People forget things quickly in Formula 1.
Schumacher: ”Exactly. And often people talk about the bad things instead of balancing things fairly. Perhaps there’s a reason why things went well the one time and didn’t the next. But the guys haven’t unlearnt how to drive. That goes for Kimi as well.
Q: Talking about forgetting: many people have already forgotten when Raikkonen won for the last time because this is so far behind us.
Schumacher: ”These people have also forgotten that it was Kimi becoming worldchampion last year.”
Q: Something that will be hard this year…
Schumacher: ”Very hard in fact.”
Q: When you look at Raikkonen, do you see indications that he’s doubting himself or even feels desperate?
Schumacher: ”People would like to think that. But when I look at Kimi it’s what I see least of all.”
Q: So Raikkonen is mentally stable?
Schumacher: ”That’s right. You won’t be able to get him out of his composure when he has won, and you won’t be able to get him out of his composure when he has lost either. You don’t need to worry about Kimi’s psyche.”

It's sad because even if he has made mistakes, the biggest mistake was done by his team with bad strategies and the car he got. He has made mistakes because all the time he had to drive over the limit to achieve good results, still he failed everytime he tried, so again luck was not on his side.

Anyways, we have to step forward, and Kimi, too. I'm sure he'll be stronger than ever in Japan, China and Brasil to help the team to achieve their goals. My only wish is to see him smile and happy again on the podium. At least one more win for this season would be fine or nice podium finishes. Let's hope he can make it and luck comes finally.

I believe in you Kimi, no matter what!

One other thing I have to say: I've always liked Kimi but what he showed me this year is beyond my wildest dreams. That he never bashes anybody (even Hamster or the team), never wants to get involved in questionable situations, his fighting spirit is maybe greater than it was e. g. in 2005. He's gentle, unique, humble and the greatest driver in my eyes. I adore and admire him because who he is. Keep flying, keep fighting Kimi!:2cents:

Definitely. Kimi wouldn't be in this situation at all if Ferrari didn't screw things up. He isn't that kind of driver who does mistakes easily.
I don't see this being about Kimi or whatever at all, it's all about his car which pretty much sucked the whole season. They never really got it to the condition Kimi would liked it and then when it slightly was, Kimi made those few mistakes or didn't have any luck at all.

I hate this season. I want Kimi to win!!

(yes, I notice I'm a bit on bad mood....)

yeah, you are right.

You know I thought last year when he's won his first title, that this year would be much easier. Because he is the world champion, and they'll treat the way he deserves. And what happens... the world champion struggles???!!!! How come is it possible???!!! I just can't believe it! And then the media came with its ugly statements about Kimi's having lack of motivation, he does so many mistakes, wants to retire, etc. .... blahhh :*****:

I wanted him to win back2back title, but not for myself but for himself because he'd deserve it! And what's happening now? There are 2 championship contenders: one is cocky and arrogant and we hate him, the other is Kimi's team-mate who is, quite frankly, half as talented as Kimi... OMG! I can't stand this situation.... Life is so unfair!

It's a quote from the Official KR forum, this fan has right!
Massa he put in a wicked performance in qualifying, but what happened to him after the pit stop?? A world champion would not lose his mind even after such a disaster, he would relentlessly pursue the best result he can-take a look at what Kimi did last year and during the race. Ferrari would have noticed the difference. We don't need to worry whether Ferrari support Kimi because Luca loves him, he didn't defend Massa did he after his rubbish start to the season??

here's another:
There aren't enough curses to throw at Ferrari for what they have done to Kimi... They have brought out a car which fundamentally doesn't suit Kimi Raikkonen, their world champion.... you can't take world champion so lightly....

What is the meaning of building a car that doesn't suit a driver like Kimi and leaves him struggling throughout the year... Had they built a car more suitable to Kimi's driving style and had that car been a shade slower, the results would have been much much better. Kimi can bring so much to a team.. Can't they learn what mclaren did... built the car completely around Kimi and Kimi conquered the hearts of millions...

this car suits Massa? NO absolutely no because last year in races he was quicker and had set many fastest laps, this year with arguably the fastest car, he has recorded only a single fastest lap in Valencia...ironically where Kimi retired and was probably running on lower revs due to engine jeopardy..

the car suits Massa in qualifying like hell... he is very happy while Kimi is left fighting with it but look at that humble man... not a single word against Ferrari, I would say not a single word out of frustration... and it's nearly the season end...

that man is truly GREAT... but i will never forgive Ferrari for coming up with *** No swearing*** like that....

This is a link where you can see a riport about Kimi from McLaren era - about Hugo Boss (from this was taken that half naked photo of him in the closet...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Har6EU-DY0s

Kimi is, I believe, the most talented driver in F1 today. When things are going right and everything is even as far as car speed and good luck go, I believe Kimi will win. I think when people question his desire or state of mind it shows they also think he is probably the best driver. In many minds, if one driver is fastest then the only reason to lose is that the driver does not have the desire to win any more.

But there is no much more to this sport than that. So many people, hundreds in fact, must come together and things must work perfectly for a driver to win. The only way to win otherwise is that your opponents have problems, and this is what has happened to Kimi this season.

Just think how few people in this world have ever been crowned as the World's Drivers Champion in Formula 1. Not many. Kimi is one of those very few. Sure it would be nice if he could win all the time, but F1 (and life) doesn't work that way. That's why we must cherish the times when things go right, when those hundreds of people are able to get things to work perfectly.

Yes, in the end it is up to the driver. And I'll say it again, I believe he is the most talented and complete driver today. That's why, as sad as it is to think he will not win it this year, I have great faith Kimi will win the WDC again, and sooner rather than later. After that, I hope he decides to keep racing if that's what he desires, or he retires to a happy life and we all can be thankful that we were able to watch someone like him thrill us in this great sport.

wow, Uptome!!! Those are wonderful words! I couldn't have said it better!!! I absolutely agree with you! All your words are amazing and the last sentence is really the heart of the matter!

One thing I have to say: I hope he'll retire later because it's more than obvious that he's addicted to racing, he can't do anything else, he just wants to win everytime, in everything! What else could show his desire, persistence and determination if not the fact that he is the only driver who wants those 2 points between the 1st and 2nd place, and he always goes flat out, no matter what? Even Hamster admitted this year that he would settle down for good points if there's no need to push that hard. But, Kimi is different! You rock Kimi! :punk:

I thought that too, because then the pressure was off and Kimi had shown that he really can win. But we have seen with both, Kimi and Michael, that life isn't fair.

Still I don't understand why the media always ignores Kimi's fastest laps? He drives the fastest laps with such a car that does not even fit his driving style! The fastest lap in the race. Meaning = NO ONE ELSE DROVE FASTER.

yeah!!!!
Can you imagine how frustating it could be that you are the fastest and you can't win!!!???!!!???
Can you imagine that maybe Hamster could be the champion and he hasn't got any fastest laps this year???!!!
Can you imagine that Massa could be the champion and he has only one fastest lap this year and it's obvious that it was because they had to reduce Kimi's car power in Valencia due to the potential engine failure (which came sorrily)?
Can you imagine that the person who has at least 10 fastest laps in a season can't be world champion?
Can you imagne that this particular person set those 10 fastest laps record also in 2005 and he couldn't be world champion? OMG!!!!

I want him to win races, again!

Which car would you like to have? The grey or the yellow? You can choose because I like both colors. I'd settled down to the one you wouldn't choose.

Hmm maybe I'd go with the grey, it suits a bit better for my style than the birght yellow :D

Formula 1 » Official: Fastest F1 driver of 2008 revealed

McLaren-Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari rival Felipe Massa may be battling it out for the glory of being crowned 2008 F1 World Champion - but neither has been the fastest driver in the races so far this year...

He may not have sat on pole position since Magny-Cours, and he may not have won a race now since the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona all the way back in April, but Kimi Raikkonen is officially the fastest man in Formula 1 in 2008.

After crashing out of fifth place in the closing stages of the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix night race last weekend, the Finn all-but kissed a terminal goodbye to his hopes of defending his hard-won drivers' crown from last year, as he heads into the final three events on the calendar trailing McLaren-Mercedes' rival and F1 World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton by 27 points in the title standings, and his own Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa by 20.

Nonetheless, in setting his tenth fastest lap in 15 grands prix this year under the spotlights of the Far Eastern city-state, the 28-year-old equalled both his own record with McLaren in 2005 and Michael Schumacher's 2004 tally with the Scuderia and now all he needs is one more fastest lap before season's end to make the achievement his own.

Raikkonen's fastest laps to-date this year have come in Spain, Turkey, Monaco, Canada, France, Britain, Hungary, Belgium, Italy and Singapore. The other five have been shared out between Heikki Kovalainen, Nick Heidfeld (two apiece) and Massa (one).
