Formule 1

And yes we did have this thread earlier... I thought you were there too? Check the first post of this thread... I thought I remember when I was posting about the win last October... hmm...

oh really? But I opened this thread in March, and before "kidnapping" of the GD section earlier in Jan or Feb (I can't remember).

^Hmm well maybe I just remember wrong and I was posting in some other thread :D

But seariously. 14th? :mello:
The weather was awful. All I do is wish it is not the same tomorrow! Because if so, I don't think Kimi has lots of changes in catching Hamilton and Massa in the points.. The only good thing was that Hamilton was struggling even more than Kimi. And Heikki did well. And Nico Rosberg.

One thing that caught my eye in the beginning when they showed the statistics about drivers was that Hamilton didn't have not even one fastest lap! What kind of driver we have leading the championship? Not even ONE fastest lap!? And - how much Kimi has? 8!! Who do you think would deserve to be leading the championship and not be 19 points behind??

^^yeah, Kimi has 8 fastest laps so far, and the season is not over yet. Last year he had a DHL Trophy award for his fastest laps (last year was 7). He has overall 34 in the history of F1 (behind MS-76 and Alain Prost-40). Can you imagine that before (I don't know when) they gave 1 point for the fastest lap after the race? That means Kimi would have had 8 points more in this case.

That's what he said, he doesn't sound too optimistic...

Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari (14th, Q2 - 1m 37.522s):
"There's little to say and I am definitely not happy with this result. I was unable to do a time in Q2 when the conditions would still have made it possible and then it was impossible to catch up. On that lap, I went off at Ascari where there was a lot of water on the track, which meant I didn't make it through to the next session. Now we must try and make the best of this situation which is definitely not ideal. Starting from the seventh row of the grid could be a bit tricky at the start, because the entry to the first chicane is very tight and it is easy to touch other cars. In the dry, the car is working very well but obviously, if it were to rain, it could give some chances to those who are starting further back like me."

It's really sad that he has so much bad luck in this season. It seems that everything succeed for Massa and nothing for Kimi. When Kimi was on his fast lap in Q2 he was 0.3 secs faster than Massa but he went off at Ascari and he was not able to set a good time. So these little things don't help him throughout the season. When there's a little chance then comes bad luck. :(

hahaha there's a poll at one of the Hungarian F1 sites with the question:

Can Vettel be the winner in Monza?

1. yes, but only in rain
2. in every conditions, Vettel will be the winner
3. Kovalainen wins in McLaren
4. Massa catch up on the grid and wins
5. Räikkönen makes a miracle
6. Hamilton will be the winner
7. it will be a big chaos, can't say any tip
8. I don't mind, I'll click on Räikkönen's name anyway...

So that just shows how many Kimi fans there are in Hungary. These polls make no sense because everybody clicks on Kimi's name :lmao:

I have everything possible crossed so it wouldn't be as awful weather as yesterday
It's not fair at all when the weather decides who wins. :(
I kind of like rainy races though because everything can happend, and there are almost always surprises then. So Kimi can still have chances to get some points!
Go Kimiiii!!!! :hat_wave:

I don't want anything bad for Massa or for Hamster but they all had their good luck in this season, but Kimi not. I would like it if Massa and Hamster both got DNF. So it's time for Kimi's time! I hope they can turn in the first corner safely and that Kimi can overtake some cars right at the beginning.

Go Vettel!! :clapping:
I'm happy for him and Heikki but otherwise this race was sooo boring.

I feel like F1 doesn't have anything to do with who's the best driver anymore. It's all about who has the most reliable car.
Kimi had the fastest lap - again! Thank God Massa could keep Hamilton behind him!

I just wish Kimi could have at least one prefect race at the end of this season so it wouldn't be so disappointing.

*sigh*

Good news:
1. fastest lap for Kimi (pointless though)
2. Massa and Hamster didn't get so many points
3. Vettel wins

bad news:
1. no points for Kimi
2. Ferrari s*cks in wet
3. tyre heating problems affect the whole race

Q&A with Kimi after the race

Kimi Raikkonen endured another torrid weekend at Monza, finishing outside the points for the third race running.

With his title hopes all but gone, the Ferrari driver told a group of reporters after the race that his main focus is to now solve his problems rather than worry about retaining his title.

Q. Are you satisfied with your race?

Kimi Raikkonen: Do you think I am? :D

Q. I am wondering?

KR: For sure we are not happy. But fortunately this is the result. In the end the car was good again but we seem to have a problem to get the tyres working. Once they switch on, it is okay. But if they don't work, then there is nothing I can do.

Q. Q. Are you still thinking of the championship, or more about helping your teammate?

KR: I am just trying to get the things right, that is the main thing. I am not thinking about anything right now. Hopefully we will get the car working. It works when the tyre works but we cannot switch the tyres on and then everything goes wrong after that. I am not really interested to think about what we are going to do in the next few races. Hopefully we can get everything right, and have some more fun again.

Q. How much is Ferrari's wet-weather performance compromising the team's championship hopes?

KR: It is not the first time for us. Sometimes it works and sometimes not, and we don't really have an explanation about why it doesn't work, and why the tyres work sometimes. I think it is not about the car not being good in some conditions, it is just to get the whole combination working together and usually we then get good results. Today was one of those. In the end, it was good but it was 40 laps too late.

Q. What are your feelings about Toro Rosso's victory? Is it embarrassing being beaten by a customer team?

KR: It was good for them, but nothing apart from the engine is from Ferrari. That is all. I think it is more an issue for Red Bull as they have the same car, so for sure we would rather be winning here but we could not.

Q. How long did it take for the tyres to come in?

KR: At the end they only started to work. They didn't have any proper grip during the first or the second stint. The second was slightly better than the first stint, but at that point it was quite late. Once we got the intermediates, first it took a while and then once they start working it is like a switch - from one lap to another it is a completely different feeling with the car and then we can push again. If we could do it straight away it would help.

Q. Is it all about the tyres then?

KR: Like I said, it helps us to get the tyre working and then everything turns good again. If we can get the tyres working straight away that will be a big help and a completely different story, but we could not today. Hopefully in the future we are able to do it.

Q. What do you think about your championship situation?

KR: It is not good, but we keep trying and hopefully we can have good races at the end of the year and that would be a nice thing. It hasn't been lately so easy, so that is what we are aiming for.

Q. Are you worried about the situation for the future, especially having just extended your contract?

KR: Well, of course I am happy otherwise I would not have signed it. This year has not been easy for us, but that is racing and it sometimes goes like that. Next year is a different story and after that we will see what we can do.

Q. Are you going to help Felipe Massa?

KR: I don't know. We will see what happens.

Fastest laps at the Italian GP:
1 Raikkonen Ferrari 53 1:28.047
2 Bourdais Toro Rosso 52 1:29.258 1.211
3 Webber Red Bull 52 1:29.681 1.634

Can you see what a big gap there is if you compare Kimi's anf Bourdais' fastest laps???!!! OMG! Why is that the tyres don't work the way Kimi wants it??? He could have reached the podium if the tyres had been swithced on earlier! I so hope next year the slicks will bring a big change and then Kimi will fly (both in qualy and in the race)!!! Then all you tyre eaters/heaters/cookers (Hamster, Kubica, Massa) better be afraid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:tease:Because no one could stop him then!

Little Red Riding Hood visited Monza (just the way he visited Silverstone and Hockenheim this year :D)

I really hate that it seems Ferrari can't bring those tire probs under controll!

I hate it too! F2008 is the fastest car in dry and warm weather but it s*cks in wet and cold. I can't believe global warming has an affect on F2008, too... Bring some trees from Finland, Kimi... :)

I don't care about this year anymore, I just want for Kimi to have fun and try to win races when there would be nice dry weather... I don't know where though because they say maybe it will rain in Sigapore, and you never know at Japan, China and Brasil... If there would be rain at those races then I'm quite sure Hamster would be the champion. I don't mind, because I don't like him and I don't like Massa. Though I must admit Hamster is the better driver, I don't see in Massa the qualities of a WDC. My other choice would be: if not Kimi then I'd vote for Kubica. Kubica is a cool guy, fair and fast, plus he didn't make any mistakes in this year and his efficiency was consistent the wole year.

Great that Jenni was there too :) It's been a long time since she last was watching a race.

Great that Jenni was there too :) It's been a long time since she last was watching a race.

yeah, because she was busy with his own sport (show-jumping). I saw pics about her from last week from a competition (results, too), so maybe that's why she couldn't attend e. g. the Spa GP.

Look, what Lewis "Big head" Hamster said again... I just can't believe how cocky he is...
I'm more relieved than anything. I'm not surprised because I drove my arse off and you know what I can do in the wet. I had no doubts in my mind I could do a good job, catch up and win. I thought it was possible. I had a great race, but considering I overtook eight people and Kimi didn't do all that much.
Kimi is world champion so it's his championship to lose.

-----------------------------------

Ferrari sure Raikkonen will help Massa

Ferrari have no doubts that Kimi Raikkonen will do all he can to help Felipe Massa win this year's world championship, even though the Finn is publicly playing down the supporting role he now has to play.

Raikkonen has not admitted that he has to play number two to Massa in the remaining four races of the season, but team principal Stefano Domenicali is sure that the Finn knows what is expected of him for the remainder of the campaign.

"I've always said that our main interest is the team," explained Domenicali. "Of course, that's the most important thing and the drivers know it.

"At this moment, at this stage, you can see that we haven't, in our situation, taken away points from one or the other, and for sure, considering from now up to the end of the season, in the way that it's possible to do, of course Kimi will do his best to be as aggressive as possible but also consider the fact that Felipe is much closer to the leader, Lewis."

Massa, who is currently just one point behind Hamilton in the title battle, says his approach to the remaining races will not change in spite of Raikkonen's help.

"Well, for sure I am doing my job and it won't change anything on my ideas or the way I work," he said. "I am always getting to the race thinking of the win and getting the most points possible. That is the way it works.

"I am in a reasonably good position in the championship and hopefully we can think like that. Today I finished in front of Kimi, so it was a positive thing, and I finished in front of Hamilton and that was it. At the end of the day I had a positive result."

IMO that would be unfair from the team if they asked Kimi to help from now on. It was the Chinese GP (so 2 more races to go) last year when they announced the fact that Felipe will back Kimi. So, please, play the fair game Mr. Domenicali! Until then let Kimi do his way and his own races, Felipe doesn't need his help right now.

^ Well I guess that has been ahead all the time? :(

A week after the Spa-Francorchamps penalty controversy, championship leader Lewis Hamilton's on-track antics are back in the spotlight.

The McLaren driver got involved in some close encounters during Sunday's Italian Grand Prix, including with his old foe and former teammate, Fernando Alonso.

"There was some unnecessary movements he made," the Spaniard told reporters in his native tongue at Monza, "and he repeated them with Glock and Webber. It is his way of racing."

Toyota's Timo Glock was also not pleased when asked about Hamilton's driving.

"I do not know what he was thinking. I was right next to him but he left me no room. Sometimes he drives as though he is completely alone on the track," the German is quoted as saying by RTL.

"The next time I am with him (on track), I will behave with him in exactly the same way," Glock promised.

23-year-old Hamilton also made contact with Red Bull's Mark Webber during a wheel-to-wheel battle with the Australian at the first chicane.

"I made sure I covered my inside spot, but I didn't want to stay there on the wet patch or I wouldn't have made the corner," the Briton explained afterwards. "He just clipped my front wheel and went on."

Go Timo Glock you do that!! There's probably none driver there who likes the way Hamilton drives.. he's so selfish!

Ok I think I need to go to the ranting thread... :D

^^^

I was so angry at Hamilton that I wished he'd crash... It can happen though in the upcoming races. Then there would be a huuuuge :D on my face... Not that I'm a bad person (I think I'm not) but he'd sooo deserve it!!!!:punk:

Goooo Timo, goooo Webber, gooo Alonso! You all can make it!!!

No seariously he (Hamilton) deserves to know how it feels when someone drivers against HIM like he drives against everyone!

I feel myself so bad person because I always hope he crashes :innocent:
I'm not that bad in real life. :D

Massa doesn't expect help from Raikkönen

Felipe Massa has said he does not expect his Ferrari teammate and reigning World Champion Kimi Raikkonen to help him win the 2008 title.

"Whether I do it or not is completely separate to what Kimi or anyone else does," the Brazilian told the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

"I am sitting in the car, I am the one who wins races or makes mistakes. It is my game," the 27-year-old added.

Massa said his relationship with Raikkonen, nicknamed 'the Iceman', is strictly professional: "We work with each other and want Ferrari to be World Champion. But we are not friends; we have no private relationship."

"If we are together in a meeting, when it is finished he opens the door and is gone," he said.

He is much closer to Michael Schumacher, who Massa describes not as a former teammate or team advisor, but "like an older brother."

Massa said he believes he can beat Lewis Hamilton, the high-profile championship leader who drives for McLaren, to the crown.

"Otherwise I should not even be sitting in a Ferrari," he insisted.

Hahahahahahahahaha.... :lmao: .... Oh, Come on, Massa!!! But, seriously..... That's the biggest joke in the century for me.... :lmao: OMG! That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard... :tease:

We have a F1 magazine, they show it on the tv before the races and before the Belgian GP there was an interview with Massa. He said the following:
"I think Kimi should help me. I did it last year to him and thanks to my job he became world champion. I'm a fair guy and I know he's a fair guy, too."

So, now, dear Massa???!!! What is the truth???!!! I'm wondering... You say something here and you say the complete opposite there...

I think someone - maybe Schumi - said to him that he should say this at this stage of the season. He didn't say it the whole year last year and this year, he was in a complete silence. But now, Genie comes out of the bottle, and suddenly he says the "truth". Which I doubted then and now also, because Kimi could/can make that Schumi was famous for, that he can overtake almost everybody during pit stops... He did it last year, he did it this year, he did it with Massa this year also, last year also, with Alonso, too. They say that that lap of Massa's (when Kimi was in the pits) in Interlagos was very fast, so maybe he didn't even lift his feet off the throttle...)!!!!!

That would be very unfair from the team Ferrari if they asked Kimi to help Massa from now on. Massa himself said before China GP in 2007 that he's going for the win (and that was 2 races before the season's end). So I think - of course - Kimi will help Felipe, if he can or if Felipe would be in the situation that he could be a champion.

OMG! I don't wanna think about it that if he would be a champion then what a big difference would there be between the 2 champions!!!! Kimi struggled through 5 years in McLaren and he couldn't make it. He's a much better driver than Massa. Way talented! Massa is in a good car, his more talented team-mate is struggling and he has luck... These are the reasons why he would be able to win the championship. Poor Kimi............ Life is sooo unfair!

lol calm down Kinga.

I personally think what we hear the drivers and/or teams saying in public and what's really said and going on behind closed doors was/has been/is/will never be necessarily exactly the same.

And then there are the races.

Actions speak louder than words anyways. lol

I won't calm down because this whole situation is sooooo frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can't get over it..... Everybody bashes Kimi and that's sooo unfair. If only they'd dig in the problem deeper... soo unfair!

Look at this, again, what can we say.... is it shows that he's not speed at all...????? That's just the damn tyres... they can't help him.... he can't help it... I was so worried because he slided almost in every corner before the first stint. He just couldn't do anything... It was so sad to see him struggling again... He tried to push as hard as he could... but it wasn't enough... and there comes that Hamster and says that Kimi didn't do enough...

I agree with Kinga about what she said that Massa doesn't need Kimi's help. That's true because he's only 1 point behind Hamilton! Last year was completely different because Kimi was more behind! I don't think we should think what happened last year because it was totally different situation.

BTW I heard from radio that Ferrari will now on do the testing weekends so that the car suits perfectly for Massa's drivign style...

I don't think ppl are bashing Kimi. I think he had some bad luck and some problems car wise also.
Those will be solved sooner or later (means) next season.
Ferrari didn't bash Kimi. They just agreed to stick a bit longer together. So there's lots of interesting stuff supposed to come out there... Ferrari has the best car and now the best driver for even longer. Let's see if they're able to prove it again! lol

:hat_wave:

P.S. Massa has a driving style??? *giggle* I've never noticed any kind of style with him yet. *shrugs*

F2008 couldn't fit to Massa's style better...

huh... I mean, they should do tests in order to fit their damn car to the cold weather conditions and most importantly try to solve the tyre heating issues!! That's Kimi's (and slightly Massa's) biggest problem not the lack of motivation and they just couldn't sort it out in months... He is/was their world champion afterall... or what?

If they can't solve this problem they can say farewell both the WDC and WCC! Because it seems rainy races are coming...

The whole thing is not about Kimi is not being helpful enough but he just can't see the reason why he should back Felipe at this stage of the season IMO. Why he can't have some nice races and some fun?

I didn't say Ferrari bashing Kimi but public and people outside. I hope to think that Ferrari was very helpful to Kimi to solve these issues and simple as that, they couldn't. It was a bigger problem than we think. I just hope that next year's car would fit to his driving style better (though I just can't believe that why couldn't they give him a car that he likes to drive...) and maybe the slick tyres will be an advantage to Kimi and his smooth driving style. Let's wait and see... in Kimi style... :)

I'm very happy that they extended their contract because it means he has now 2 more choices to become world champion again and again. Plus it means they can work well together and there aren't any retiring or lack of motivation (which I doubted very very much). I can see the passion in his eyes, still.:)

Keep flying Kimi!!!! :hat_wave:

PS: Mechi, your last sentence sneaks about something....:D:D:D:D

(They say that Massa likes understeer while Kimi likes oversteer but they also said that it doesn't mean much in setting up a car... I don't know. I'm not an expert.)

About Massa's driving style: get the pole and you are able to win:smilerolleyes: (I have to admit that it worked so far...)

Mosley wants standard engine for F1

Max Mosley said he would like to see each Formula One team use the same engine.

The FIA President told the French sports daily L'Equipe that the move to a common engine would put a lid on costs and also make F1 teams' research more road-relevant.

Mosley, calling teams' current spending on technology "irrational," also said Wednesday he is in favour of the introduction of standard suspensions and gearboxes.

F1 teams are currently in the midst of a mandatory 'freeze' on engine development, with some like Renault complaining that they have fallen behind as their rivals sidestep the spirit of the rules.

"It is not conceivable that we are penalised for another three years," said team boss Flavio Briatore, who is campaigning for a remedy to the situation.

"We will discuss it in FOTA and look for a solution," he confirmed to the Spanish sports daily Marca.

I think the standard engine would be a good thing

^^^Maybe it would be good, but I don't think it would happen...

Kimi's column - Italian GP review

Sometimes it's rough. You try and try but nothing seems to go your way. I haven't been winning for ages and I haven't got many points either. In Monza, we finished the race but it didn't feel any better compared to the two previous ones with DNFs.

We now have had five races without points. Obviously, you don't have to be Einstein to realise that this is not the way to fight for the championship. It's not over, I'll never give up.

We have had the same problem too many times. With this car in certain circumstances it's too difficult to get the right temperature to the tyres - especially if it rains. And it seems to rain in almost every race nowadays.

It rained a lot in Monza. Unfortunately for me, there is no reason to talk about anything else apart from the last laps of the race. The car was really good on Friday in the dry. But in the wet on Saturday I simply could not get the tyres up to temperature. This is something we need to understand, because the car is very good when it has the right temperatures in the tyres. But the race is all over by then.

Obviously at the moment things simply are not going my way. Sometimes things happen like that. But I will keep pushing and hopefully my luck will change. I would like to win a couple of more races by the end of this season.

I have not lost my skills for driving in the wet. But you have to get the car right to be able to fight in the rainy races, too. If there is no grip, you cannot fight. You just drive and drive and hope that everything gets sorted out.

While it started to dry up in Monza, it was like switching on the lights. Everything felt well and I was able to attack the corners but it was much, much too late by then.

Now we go to Mugello to test. We do our very best to solve the problem. We wouldn't mind if it would rain all week.

We are heading for the new challenges. It's good for F1 and the drivers to race in a new city like Singapore. It will also be the first ever night race in F1 so it's a completely new experience for everybody. The atmosphere will be great. Hot and humid seems to be more favourable for Ferrari.

You never know what happens in the race. There is no reason to make any plans. We just concentrate on doing our very best. Whoever has the most points after the last race of the season will be champion.

I'm really happy to extend my agreement with Ferrari. They are the best team in F1. My memories of last season will never be forgotten and I would like to repeat that feat again.

Nooooo way!!! Never give up KIMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep fighting till the very end!!!!!!!
