BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For [General Discussion]

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

Yes it is the original album tracks being released so it will be with sspeaking intro and also the Single IJCSLY is with the Speaking intro.
Let's see if Dileo's breathing during the intro of Smooth Criminal is there.

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

Great quality! Were those shot on tape like Wembley concert they are releasing?

Wembley's releasing from VHS. Therefore that means they won't mix angles like they did for Bucharest DVD.

They have basically tape like this.

And they just try to remaster the picture quality from source that looks like this (maybe. i would hope its at least this good. hopefully its not worse)

(screenshot is from VHS promo tape of Tokyo 1988 concert.)

I've really no idea how professionals work on this. Maybe they can make it look great. Dunno. But I doubt we can expect just as great quality as The One LA 89 snippets.
And yeah, I've also no idea if LA was shot on film, maybe it was. I've no information on that.

Here's my fast take on this.

I am really excited about the release but at the same time worried, like many of you.
I really, really hope for a blu-ray edition, i just hope it doesnt take many years :(

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

Nobody has seen the VHS tape yet so lets just wait for it

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

OMG I keep coming back to this thread and it's going round in circles.

YES the BAD Concerts (or at least some of them WERE) recorded on FILM. We knew that years ago.

We also knew that there rights issues with the footage. MJ didn't own the rights outright. Neither do the Estate. MJ couldn't release the video nor can the Estate. This was confirmed years ago on an MJ forum by a RELIABLE MJ insider. Sorry I forgot the poster's name and even which board it was on, but it may have been MJNI and may have been 'Cartman'.

So yes, film footage existed. It would be possible to create a good Bluray release using that footage. We don't know if it still exists. We don't know who owns the rights but we know the Estate don't have it, or at least not the Wembley show footage.

The MJ Estate told Ivy they were looking to working on the quality issue over time (or something like that). That to me hints that they know who owns better footage but haven't secured a deal on it. We know you cannot upscale poor quality VHS to DVD or BluRay quality. It's impossible. Even a 'high quality' VHS will look awful on modern high resolution widescreen TVs/monitors because of the limitations of the format. 20 year old VHS looks awful no matter how few times it's played because the magnetic tape degrades over time. Therefore to sort the quality they need a better source.

I see no reason for the estate to release the pre-enhanced video footage to the press for inclusion in their reports aimed at publicising the BAD25 concert release. They would be silly to do that. Better to delay the announcement and release enhanced footage. therefore we should assume that as we speak now, the footage shown in news reports IS the quality that the estate have available and has already been improved as far as they can with the source they have.

Now can we please move on from this or at least create another thread for it???

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

^ I think this will be going on all these 4 months :D

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

I think that the Estate should pay whatever price they are requesting for the films. (same with will.i.am songs). Many fans say "better VHS than nothing" but I don't agree with that. It would be great for us fans to see MJ but nobody else would like to watch it in such bad quality. Of course I'll buy DVD but if the picture is like in the trailer I would prefer that they don't release it. For now they can release a montage of various shows that they have in high quality (although many fans were against this idea before, now it seems a lot better idea). And then in few years time when they get the rights for the original films they can release one full show on blu-ray or even in theatres.

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

Then it must be a joke cause no one on earth would ever release anything like that. It's not even VHS standart.

It's funny actually. Take a look at some comments -

In my collection the worst image quality DVD is the R1 DTS edition of Die Hard with a Vengence.

The image is just awful.

Which is strange as the trailers on disk 2 look fab and are anamorphic too.

Jamon Jamon (UK R2) - sub VHS quality, just incredibly bad.

The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb (R1, Manga)

Not only VHS quality, it's also pan and scam. I believe it's OOP now though.

And after these few worst DVD quality releases ever (in some people's opinions) you guys really think the Estate would give us something like this?
Neeh, I'd say in this case ''It's too bad to be true''.
If it's really that bad they just wouldn't release it. It wouldn't make sense to release something like that on DVD.
So I keep my faith on good DVD quality.

Why you won't buy anything??? You can buy standard 2CD edition. And again they are capable, but they only have that VHS. It's not their fault. If they are just being cheep and won't pay for the films that is another story, but we don't know that yet.

Chill for now man. Wait until DVD's out and if it's crap, then I would agree with you (tho I think I would buy it anyway). But for now just let's wait ;)

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

Quite simply. this....

This looks like it will be the best Michael Jackson re-release ever. I have longed for this since attending the concert 24 years ago, and an audio CD as well of Michael singing LIVE - amazing. PLUS tracks I have never heard off....

Just brilliant.

Nothing negative WHATSOEVER.

That's the talk i was missing in here...

Yeah, here wie go again! Don't you want to start a boycott petition?

Brillant. And even more brillant to thank for this comment!

Some really bright dudes in here...

Exactly!
Round in circles all over again!

A good discussion leads somewhere! This thread leads nowhere, it's full of assumptions and nonfacts!
The only facts are on page #1!

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

I understand you guys who aren't satisfied with the quality we may get on the DVD, but come on, don't forget the other things we'll get too!

We've wanted untouched songs more than ever after the Michael album release and now we'll finally get them! And from the snippets that were posted, we already know the multitrack audio of the Wembley concert consists of great quality!
I really don't have anything against criticism regarding the Estate, but saying things like "They can suck my ass, I won't buy that" just brings negativity into this thread. And we still don't even know for sure how the final quality of the DVD will look like, and even if it's that bad, it's not like they screwed up the whole release!
So at least lighten up a bit, people!

I agree. We shouldn't be that negative before we ain't seen the real thing.

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

I was just thinking. Before the announcement was made about the details of the re-release I had posted a wish:

-Bad CD
-Unreleased & Mixes CD
-Bad Live CD

and Bad Tour DVD

And that's exactly what we'll be getting. :D What a lucky guess. I should have played the lottery that day :)

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

What do you think we will get on CD2?

I think 8 new Demoes and songs - and 5 remixes. - 13 songs total!

Hot Fever
Price of Fame
Chicago '45

some songs we have never ever heard of too maybe!

I hope there is demos of Bad, Another Part of Me, Just Good Friends, Smooth Criminal, The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana and Man in the Mirror at least.

Re: Michael Jackson BAD25 - The Announcement We Have All Been Waiting For

I'm sure the early demo's are cool, but I think BRAND NEW stuff would be cooler. Songs we've never ever heard before.
