This is mine:
How about you?
http://nerd-dancer-funnyman.tumblr.com unk:Thus, my return to blogging. I thought I should talk about someone I know allot about. Jackson, Michael Jackson. I recently saw a video of myself as a three year-old dancing to Beat It. Not much has change since then, I still dance to Beat It, maybe not in my nappy, and maybe not falling over after every verse, but either way, I still dance to it. What is amazing about Michael Jackson is the fact that his songs never get old. Billie Jean was released 28 years ago!
My favourite MJ songs change all the time, to be honest, I love them all equally. But here is my top 10 Michael Jackson songs!
__________________________________________________________
1. For All Time
Recorded in 1989 for the Dangerous album (1990), although Sony released it on the Thriller 25th (2008) anniversary album and pretended it was recorded for Thriller (1982) [Screw you Sony!]. Why do I love this? because the words 'For All Time' take on so many different meanings, therefore its more personal for the listener. If I had to choose one song to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be it.
2. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
The first track on the Thriller album. This song is incredible, the instrumentation is just addictive and makes me wanna dance every time I hear it. The live versions to. The HIStory Tour version; the base line is so powerful (you can really notice it on the Munich concert). The This Is It version; probably my favourite song from the movie, again the instrumentation is more modern and just works so well.
3. Escape
You probably don't know this, since its an unreleased track from Invincible. Later intended for his canceled 2003 album. It has a similar feel to the song Invincible, but it sound timeless while having that strong MJ feel to it.
4. Earth Song
Released in 1995. It meant as much then, as it does now.
Just the lines are enough to make me cry; 'did you ever stop to notice...' 'I use to dream...' 'what have we done to the world?...' 'What About Us...?'
The ending is my favourite, just the way he puts so much meaning into the lyrics (as opposed to the demo version).
5. 2 Bad
If you can't dance to this track, there is seriously something wrong with you. Just when the music hits you, I automatically wanna start moonwalking. And the accompanying video, Ghosts (1996) is a MUST SEE. If you thought Thriller was good, I recommend, no, I demand you to watch Ghosts.
6. You Are Not Alone
I have to put this on the list. It would be wrong if I didn't. This is a perfect example of how MJ makes a song [which he didn't write] his own. Its very hard for me to explain why this song is on my list, but lets just say its perfect.
7. Tabloid Junkie
I never use to like... I'm sorry... appreciate this song, but the bridge is just amazing; 'It's slander!' & 'You don't have to read it'. Its just defines perfectly what MJ was trying to say every time he had to deny a rumour.
8. Keep The Faith (Alternative Version)
The alternative version isn't heaps different to the album version, but I keep listening to it. Again, I never use to appreciate this song, but I now think its on of his most underrated songs. If you feeling down or low self-esteem, this is likely to get your spirits up.
This is getting harder... now for some more personal ones...
9. The Way You Make Me Feel
I have to put this one in, since most of my childhood involved me dancing to this. This is also a perfect example of why others should try to do covers of MJs songs. The video, the performances... memories...
10. Human Nature
Its hard to put this song into a specific genre, um, does beautiful count? It has a unique sound to it, but the instrumentation is just incredible. The live performances of it is some of my favourite parts of his shows Why? Why? Because its just him. By himself. Giving a performance of a life time.
__________________________________________________________
Fave Movie: Ghosts (or This Is It, if that counts)
Fave Video: Earth Song
Least Fave Song: Privacy (The only MJ song I don't like)
__________________________________________________________
Wow! That was hard. Probably harder for you since you probably haven't heard 70% of those songs. Of course there are others that should have been on there, but this is my personal list. It changes ALL the time.
And, no. I didn't count J5 songs.
How about you?
