Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Okay guys, seriously... That synth riff that plays during the original Slave To The Rhythm chorus is soooo freaking good! I love it! Can't stop listening to it! It's so subtle and underplayed but hot damn is it catchy. Might even be my favourite thing to come out of this entire project. An entire song could have been built around that riff.

Doo-doo-doo DOOO doo doo doo doo

the demo is amazing! IMO WAY better than the new remix :)

I've gotta say that the instrumental, produced by Darkchild for the title track is extremely subtle & fresh! he understood Michael's thought patterns, and Michael trusted Rodney with his productions... this is as close to a finished version of this track as what would have sounded, had Michael released it in his life time.. which he did say he wanted.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Xscape just received 6 out of 6 stars in Denmarks biggest music magazine!

Yup! Synth riff, that's what it is! I have no idea what musical term is what, so it's hard to explain what parts I love of that song (besides all of it lol)....I find too, that his voice in the chorus compliments that riff SO well....I've been listening on repeat for the last few days lol

Again, I really like the new version, but that gorgeous riff is gone now :( It's so classic MJ, I wish they didn't take it out...

Is that Doo-doo-doo DOOO doo doo doo doo some kind of vodoo thing?
Since the first listen to it I became actually a slave to that song:D

Seriously, imo this track is the unexpected gem of the album

Another little tidbit I noticed today:

On original demo of loving you, first verse: "cause i've been feeling down and blue and it's cloudy in my head. Instead of going out to some restaurant I'll stay here instead"

on new remix, first verse: "cause i've been feeling down and blue and it's cloudy in my head. Instead of going out to some restaurant I'll stay here in bed" (probably copied from the last verse).

Anyone have a transcript of each songs album notes?

Timbo's STTR is absolutely the opposite of what Michael would have done. There is no Bass drive or melody there, its like someone let a cat onto the keyboard during recording xD

we need the STTR (the re-imagining) by Birchey!

I wonder why a lot of you critics are busy posting on here, and Timberland is probably in a major studio somewhere busy making yet another hit record?

There must be a good reason, I just can't think of it at the moment.

When I listen to STTR 2014 remix (as well as to some other 2014 remixes) I feel like I'm watching a movie where the video & audio are totally out of sync.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Question about the album credits:

For LNFSG the album booklet says it was written by Michael and Paul Anka - with no mention of Kathy Wakefield. But on Johnny Mathis' album she is named as one of the co-writers. So did she just work on the Mathis version but not with Michael and Anka?

It could be she wrote additional lyrics which were used by Mathis.

"RODNEY JERKINS (Grammy winning producer who worked on the bulk of Michael Jackson's last studio work, 2000's Invincible): Me and Michael first worked on "Xscape" in 1999. L.A. will tell you I was a jerk through the whole process [laughs]. I care. Michael was a dude that was a friend of mines. I had a good relationship with him. He knew my family and I knew his family. So I would tell L.A., "I'm not doing a song until I hear the rest of the album." Even when he would say, "Well, we have to do this first," I would say, "I don't care. I got to hear the whole album before I finish a song." I wanted to make sure that everything stood up to what Michael would have wanted. That was important to me."

He wanted to be sure that there is no Cascio tracks on the album.

Could be. I believe he knew he was sitting on gold as he worked with Michael on Xscape 2002 and was not going to let something that valuable be on a mediocre cd. Minus the three faux tracks, it is still mediocre. Wise choice.

Now Xscape is the title track with both the original and remix as standouts on a superior cd proving good things come to those who wait.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Received my album when I got home from work! Already on my third listen.:chillin:

A. MAY. ZING !!! Michael's vocals are heavenly.

APWNN is already launching itself towards the top of my list of 'can't stop listening to'!

Serious funk! :beach:

For those of you who can't feel how much good there is in this amazing album. - I feel sorry for you.

I would suggest you sell up everything you have, pray to God, and see if you can find somewhere to buy yourself a 'soul'. You're obviously missing one.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

can anyone make a thread for making of xscape ,all interviews ,videos and all ;)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Fans who say this album isn't as great as Michael's previous albums are obviously not going to be impressed, these are Michael's personal unpublished creations... he was always experimenting with different styles and techniques, it's not suppose to hinder his back catalogue, but rather celebrate the eternal legacy  the estate have done extremely well, and this is definitely a significant part of my collection. Best posthumous album from ANY artist in HIStory. Fact.

When LNFSG first leaked in late 2006 it was said that it was considered for the Victory album but got replaced by Be Not Always. I don't know how accurate that is.

It could be partially rewritten for Victory with Kathy Wakefield. She cowrote Torture with Jackie.

Kathy Wakefield wrote the lyrics for Johnny Mathis version.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Michael Jackson's 'Xscape' the deluxe edition is still holding steady at the number two spot in the official UK albums chart, can we keep it there and debut higher than the previous posthumous album? of course, this album is divine... and retains Michael's creative integrity.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

DYKWYCA - i've never heard a song before, which includes both rubber bass (or whatever it is) and strings! :)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I'd like to shake Timbaland's hand for this. Incredible job.

Yes but they replaced it by the warm chorus pad which is so MJ too, so shut up!
