Xscape chart positions. (incl. singles)

Calm down, people!

The drop happened because of rolling (the first week radio deal)... now it's finally stable and climbing! A new peak is coming next week! ;)

It will go up again next week.

If you look at sales - LNFSG is #6.

The public are buying the single.

The Black Keys vs. Michael Jackson for No. 1 on Billboard 200

By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles

The new albums from the Black Keys and Michael Jackson are both in the running for the No. 1 slot on next week's Billboard 200 chart.

As of May 14, the Black Keys' eighth album, "Turn Blue", has the edge over Jackson's "Xscape", but not by much. Industry forecasters suggest the former may sell upwards of 150,000 copies in the week ending May 18, while "Xscape" could sell 140,000. Both albums were released on Tuesday, May 13.

The Billboard 200's new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, May 21.

If the Black Keys start at No. 1, it will mark the rock duo's first chart-topper. Their last studio release, 2011's "El Camino", debuted and peaked at No. 2 off a 206,000 start (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and is their best seller, with 1.4 million sold. "El Camino" went on to win the 2012 Grammy Award for best rock album, and was also nominated for album of the year.

As for Jackson, "Xscape" would mark the seventh No. 1 for the King of Pop, who died in 2009. The new set is his second posthumous album of previously unreleased material, following "Michael" in 2011. "Michael" debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 228,000 in the week ending Dec. 19. It has sold 541,000 to date.

Jackson previously topped the Billboard 200 with "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous," "History: Past, Present and Future Book 1," "Invincible" and "Michael Jackson's This Is It."

The first-week sales on "Xscape" might be amplified by a special experience celebrating Jackson during the Billboard Music Awards (May 18). There are no details on what the event will include, but it has been described by the producers of the show as "Michael Jackson like you've never seen him before."
Other albums aiming for high debuts on the Billboard 200 include Rascal Flatts' "Rewind", Dolly Parton's "Blue Smoke" and Tori Amos' "Unrepentant Geraldines".

I keep forgetting the US never got Blood on the Dance Floor the way Europe did.

What is rolling? YOu mean because of the iHeart premiere?

Last week with just 3 days, it managed that number. It looks like momentum is reduced. Guess now its upto the radio DJs.

Sorry for my English, but I'll try to explain:

Basically, the radio numbers reflect the results of the previous week... that means, if LNFSG did 2mi in audience on friday, it needs 4mi in audience on the following friday to be stable (4-2 = 2mi).

Once LNFSG had a radio deal during the first week (and debuted with +34mi), it was quite impossible to keep it from falling during the second week... That's rolling.

But, now that it's stable and there's no radio deal and surreal numbers, it'll climb again!

Does those video views go towards billboard charts too?

LNFSG has chart-debut on 28 in Germany single-charts

Ebenfalls neu in den Top 30 der deutschen Single-Charts: Kiesza mit "Hideaway" (Universal Music International) auf Rang 16, Meltem Acikgoez, Zweitplatzierte bei "DSDS 2014", mit "Explosion In My Heart" auf Platz 25 sowie Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake mit "Love Never Felt So Good" (Epic/Sony Music) auf Position 28.

I want this song to be a summer hit! so if it has to climb little by little so be it.
My hope is for this album to have longevity and not a short stint on the charts, its that good.

I,m just crossing my fingers now for that #1 spot in the US :)

I don't get the first week sales numbers

The mighty dangerous sold 3.26K

HIStory sold 3.91K

Invincible 3.36K

Michael 2.28K

Now Xscape just 1.4K?

Also Michael album sold just half a million overall? What a flop.

@Respect, do you want to take this one and explain the album sales thingy:D

It is obvious that a posthumous album would never sell as good as a regular studio album. I'm actually surprised that Xscape still shows a decent chart performance and went number one in many countries.

You can't compare the record market in 2014 to 1995, 2001 or even 2010.

The record industry now is at an all time low. People hardly buy albums any more, they go to Spotify, YouTube etc. to listen to music.

It is not about album being a flop ... The world has changed … different times, different results.

^^

Exactly, plus that its been four years since the 'Michael' album dropped so its four year ago. All artist album sales decrease over time.

Not only that... The 'Michael' album came out one year after MJ passed and MJ sold many records around the time of his death, it was imo bound to happen that the sales would decrease as time went.

LNFSG dropped to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100....

Can't find Xscape on Billboard Top 200...

It's been explained here not long ago why LNFSG dropped this week (rolling effect). It will rise again next week.

And Xscape is not there because this weeks chart mirrors last week's sales and Xscape was released this week. It will be there next week - almost certainly either at #1 or #2 position based on projections.

YES, they do! Any video, even a fan made or a parody or whatever, that contains the actual song counts towards the Billboard chart! This is why a parody of Miley Curus's Wrecking Ball which got millions of views, pushed the song to #1 on the HOT 100.

So keep streaming the video!

Can't find Xscape on Billboard Top 200...

Next week. The album just came out on Tuesday.

BTW, LNFSG is now up to #5 on the US iTunes!! And hopefully it will keep going up. This is probably the effect of the video. :)

I can't believe there are people about, who claim to be music fans, who don't understand how album sales have dropped over the last few years/decades. Where have they been living? :bugeyed

Or, could they been on a wind up?

That`s a bit disappointing. I really expected a better place because it is 6 in Hot Digital-Charts.

Disappointing huh? Hmmmmmok

Whaaaat??? a disappointment.

I think this is going the Hold My Hand way... Why doesn't the US like MJ anymore?

Exactly. It lost 29M listeners last week and only dropped 2 spots because of the great sale. Had it had low sales, it would have been out of the top 40. Be grateful.

It will definitely bounce back next week, if airplay keeps improving. It's already back in the top 10 thanks to the video and media coverage.

Also "Michael" came out during the holidays.

The views from the US do.

Yeah, Michael was released during Q4, when album sales are generally much higher than in the spring or summer. And album sales have plummeted in the four years since Michael’s release. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the first week sales are lower for Xscape than Michael. What matters now is longevity. LNFSG is already doing better than HMH, and there are several songs on the album that I could see as somewhat successful singles. Let’s hope the album keeps selling nicely in the long run.

And as for LNFSG’s chart position - I’m surprised it only dropped 2 spots even though it lost so much AI. I think it should get a new peak in the next week’s chart - the airplay is increasing again, it’s selling well and the new music video is getting quite a lot of views.
