World Music Awards 2008 *UPDATE: Michael Jackson did not win; Kid Rock got the WBPMA *

BAHAHAHAHA! Kid Rock = BEST MALE ARTIST! Ain't that funny? _Michael Jackson is hooking up with Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock receives an award for BEST MALE ARTIST.
 
Mike didn't deserve to win, unfortunately. It was just a remix album anyway, as another member put it.

Based on sales it would've won. But since Thriller 25 hasn't got no genuine new material, they'd rather give the award to someone who has. And Kid Rock certainly recorded new vocals and had a good sales amount.

Makes sense if you ask me.
 
i do not get who decides the final winners from the nominees? Since Michael was invited to this awards, i guess he would have won if he would have appeared...otherwise there would not have been any reason for him to be there..(just sit in the audience?lol)

are u saying kid rock recorded new vocals or new material?

mJ had an unreleased song on t25. if he didn't deserve to win, then he didn't deserve to be nominated either. so..u see..that doesn't make any sense.

anyway, if kid rock outsold MJ that's onet hing..but t25 getting to number 1 twice says something...
 
If it's based purely on sales, he deserved it. But who cares anyway. He has more awards then any other recording artist anyway.

Coldplay were named the best selling artist while Leona Lewis, Estelle and Amy Winehouse also had their victories at 20th World Music Awards.

Several artists from around the world gathered in Monaco on Sunday, November 9 to witness the crowning of the best in music at the 2008 World Music Awards. The U.K. acts dominated most of the winners list. Leona Lewis took two prizes at the same time, Best New Artist and Pop Female, but it was Coldplay's night as the rock band brought home three nods.

Apart from named the world's top-selling act this year for "Viva la Vida", Coldplay also took the honor as Best Rock Group and the Best Act from Great Britain. Unfortunately the band were not there to attend the show and accept the awards. The huge sale of "Viva la Vida" proves the success of the marketing strategy that gave away the album's first single "Violet Hill" for free via the Internet.

Despite her personal life that overshadows her music, Amy Winehouse still earned the honor to take Best Pop/Rock Female, beating Pink, Duffy and Katy Perry. The Beatles' Ringo Starr meanwhile, was the special honoree of the Diamond Award, an award created in 2001 to honor artists who have sold more than 100 million albums during their career. Also, "American Boy" singer Estelle took over the Best New R&B Act.

The Americans also had their triumphs with Beyonce Knowles nabbing Outstanding Contribution to the Art, Chris Brown snatching R&B Male and Lil Wayne taking the Rap/Hip-Hop genre. Other award recipients at the event included Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Akon, Kid Rock, Enrique Iglesias and producer L.A. Reid.

Katy Perry opened the show while Beyonce Knowles and Kid Rock were among the performers that night. Actor Jesse Metcalfe hosted the show with Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams (II). why do ppl keep asking as to why mj was nominated in the first place. its been said many times in this thread as to how the nominees are created. why dont ppl read the the thread first before posting.then you wouldnt have threads that are twice aslong as they need to be because you wouldnt have ppl asking the same questions every other post

Kid Rock has been around a while and his album has done well and the single ok
hes mixed and done music in different geners

Its awesome that MJ was nominated and SOLD MORE then Kid Rocks suposed 'Succesfull album' lool
it just shows how great mj is. Emagine how he will do with a new album OMGG

MJ has only done remixes while kid rock released an entire new album.
lool mj is working on new material now so dont worry.

Some of you really mean Kid Rock did deserve it? There are only a few people in the world who deserve to be named as an artist, and Kid Rock is not included. Also, except his first single we heard nothing about Kid's album.
Well, he is constantly high, he'll not enjoy his victory that long.

I always read something like "Michael does not deserve it", still nobody conquered him for almost 26 years, so, who else does deserve it? Michael simply sold more and you say he does not deserve a plain award?Where is your pride, your dignity?
You say (not you, Pinguin) there is a difference between Janet's and Michael's fans. But I don't think so. There is a difference between Jackson fans and other fans. Think about the EMA's and VMA's: Britney fans do not care if she doesn't perform, if she does not sing, if she does anything. They just want her to get as much awards as possible.
Same with Rick Astley (nothing against him): Would the fans say no, he does not deserve it, just because it was quiet around him for 13 years? No, they smiled and said : let's get him an award.
You say MJ (who is one of the less who works) does nothing . You say he, Michael, does not deserve it, while watching people win who do not deserve it.

^^^ MJ fans are 'one of a kind'. Instead of being disappointed that MJ didn't get the award, they said he doesn't deserve it. some 'great' and 'loyal' fans MJ has! :)
 
During the year of 2008, there were no new vocal recordings done by Michael Jackson himself. What made Thriller 25 popular? Might have been the re-released original tracks, but they cannot be classified as "new" songs nor material.

What material on Thriller 25 could we classify as "new"?
1) Remixes done by other artists (Kanye West, Fergie, Will.i.am, Akon)
2) One previously unreleased single (recording date unknown): "For all time" by Michael Jackson himself.

Looking at the above, it's shouldn't be a hard task seeing that the majority of material on Thriller 25 isn't new. What we can consider as "new" isn't even recorded by Michael Jackson.

Assuming that they (the WMAs) were looking for the best male artist by new vocal records including sales count, I think they've done the right thing not to pick Mike.

Whether it was the right decision to pick Kid Rock, I don't know. But I don't think that with the amount of work and new material MJ put into Thriller 25 himself, that he deserves the award for best male artist of 2008.

oooww....i still want MJ to win but yeaahh...some fans are right. its kind of unfair if MJ won it with Thriller coz Kid rock might work hard for his new materials in this album while MJ didn't and if MJ win...sure its gonna be pain in the ass for kid rock. so...ok..yeah never mind

Lets just say...MJ's cupboard already too full with this WMA...hahaha(remember the 96 WMA,he even hardly carry them all in his hand)

and yes...its just a remix album,and MJ got nominated...if its a new album...kid rock,JT,chris brown...and whoever,whatever their name are...they don't have to come to the award shows,coz they wouldn't win anyway ^^

Aww I missed all the excitement. :girl_sigh: I think it would have been cool if he HAD won off a 25 year-old album which has outsold most of today's music this year....whether he sung new material or not. That accomplishment in itself would have deserved some sort of recognition. How many artists can and/or HAVE done that? Not many I'm sure.

its nothing to do with being the best artist. the award is based on sales for the past year and nothing esle. thriller 25 was classed as a new release therefore mj was nominated because of the sales it had

Get over yourself! Kid Rock is talented, he is just not as talented as Michael Jackson. So what, Kid deserved to win this award. The reason you haven't heard anything about Kid's album is because you don't spend everyday o n a fan forum seeking out any tidbit of news possible as you do with MJ.

Where is my pride and dignity? In accepting the fact that Michael isn't a God and other artists (yes Kid is an artist) are capable of impacting the music scene besides MJ. Isn't it ironic and hypocritical that you complain about other fans that just want to see their artist get awards, but when Michael doesn't win his you freak out. Get over yourself…
