but it didn't work the way Mike wanted it to.

Will.I.Am was doing an Obama rally at my college and I had a friend who went to it and I had him deliver the message "Don't put Michael Jackson on auto tune." (I would've went, but I'm a Resident Advisor, and can't leave my building this weekend.) Anyway, he said it was "Mike's idea and Mike tried it but it didn't work the way Mike wanted it to,"so they may not use it. My friend just called me literally 5 minutes ago.

I certainly hope he doesn't use it, but its good to know they are still working on an album. What do you think??

 why does Michael want to screw around with his voice?

I don't even know what that is. But if it's something like T-Pain or one of those losers uses, then it's gotta be just an experiment or for one or two tracks. And from the sounds of it, Michael didn't like the way it turned out anyhow, so no worries mates.

"wanted AutoTune"... very vague lol AutoTune was most likely used on Invincible to smooth out vocals. it's an engineering standard now. but i take it you mean like the way they use it on T-Pain? that's an extreme way of using the program. but these pitch-processing plugins are used on everybody without anyone being able to notice. doesn't mean you're going to sound like T-Pain.

Yeah it's the T-Pain effect. Why would Michael Jackson, one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time, want to be T-Drone? COME ON MAN!

I think it's the T-Pain effect.

True that Timmy, lol. Well if it's used in a marginal capacity to smooth out the sound, I can understand that. As long as he doesn't lose his mind and start layering it on like icing on a cake.

you can experiment with these plugins in various ways. Mike could have explored it to try out different things. when someone like will.i.am (who is also heavily involved in engineering, btw) mentions AutoTune, T-Pain wouldn't be the first thing to pop into his head. it's a standard in production and engineering.

It'd be sorta, kinda okay for one track maybe, but not any more. If what this guy said is true, then it doesn't even sound like Michael's gonna use it at all beyond what arXter is pointing out.

You know I was afraid he would want to use Autotune. I'm glad to see he doesn't care for it that much. At least in the form that these new r&b stars are using it. I like how you put it, wannabe, "layering like icing on a cake" if you will.

Though it would be interesting to hear it on maybe one track.

I thought auto tune was for people who don't always sing on tune, and it makes people sound like the are in tune :( Basically, it changes ppls voice if they aren't in tune?????
Why would Michael need that??? :(

edit: from wikipedia(ok, crappy source, but whatev.)
"Auto-Tune is a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies which uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise inaccuracies and mistakes, and – due to its increasing use in modern music – has allowed many artists to produce more precisely tuned recordings. While Auto-Tune is only one out of many commercial pitch correction packages, auto-tune is frequently used in the media as a blanket term to describe any audio processing with a similar effect, perhaps because it was the first product allowing pitch correction in real time.[1]"

When using auto tune correctly, it helps to correct pitch inaccuracies in vocals, and even some intstruments. With T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Kanye etc. Its used the wrong way, which gives the voice that wobbly, robotic type of sound. It was probably used on Mike in the Invincible era, because even though it was around, it wasn't abused like it is now. Its used for a few notes here and there, not the whole damn song like people use it now

NONOMFG. AHAHA I can't breathe?!?!

EDIT: Okay.. read he last part.. so they may not use it... GOOD. lol  Whew, got me all, nervous. :bugeyed
Seriously, all these mainstream artists kinna use it all the time, even that T-Pan, omfg, just,, NO. :mello: Thank gosh it said it didn't work out the way MJ wanted it to. I wonder how it sounded though. :bugeyed ..Nah, actually I dont' wanna lol.

I love MJs' voice better

Wait, do you mean that Michael used it to help correct the pitch inaccuracies in his vocals, or to make the robotic sound?

that specific effect is abused when used to compensate for your vocals in every song and every album (T-Pain). but if he hadn't milked it so much and to go along with crap music, it could have been seen as the new talkbox. Teddy Riley milked the talkbox lol but it was around way before him.

It was cute when Snoop did it, but I don't want to hear Michael that way

T-Pain tried to do what Teddy and Roger did but failed badly.

Much like a lot of what Invincible sounded like.

Lots of people use Autotune and experiment with it. Ya'll are taking the WORST examples of people using it and think the sky is falling when MJ wants to play with it lol. Just cuz he might wanna use Autotune does NOT mean he'll sound like TPain or anything remotely close. LOL

Then maybe he wants to be Cher.

Experimenting. It's what Michael does. Live with it guys
I know.... he likes trying new things. *takes deep breathes* :) I think I'll be fine now, lol.

Yes but people are freakin out at the mere thought of MJ wanting to use it. No need to freak out. It wouldn't be all that bad if he DID decide to use it lol
LOL.. sorry, it's just the first thought when I saw the word Autotune was T-Rex, and I freaked out a bit. :bugeyed:hysterical:

Yeah, see if he wasn't experimenting with SOMETHING, then we need to worry.

In all honesty, if Michael did decide to use this new technique in specific songs, I have the utmost confidence that he will do it properly, adding the sound where he thinks it needs to be. With Michael, nothing is out of bounds and nothing is off limits.
